Dugout Discussion – Everton vs Newcastle

The curtailed Gameweek 35 concludes at Goodison Park tonight as Everton host Newcastle United in a fixture that has all the makings of a dead rubber.

The two teams are now surely safe from the threat of relegation and appear to be playing for Premier League prize money only over the remaining matches.

But from a Fantasy perspective, there is still interest in the Merseyside clash, with Free Hit managers investing in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman in their one-week refresh.

All start for the home side tonight.

Meanwhile, those without the chip at their disposal, likely take Magpies assets into this match, with Ayoze Perez, Kenedy and budget defender Paul Dummett among the most likely to feature in squads.

Indeed, Perez is the most signed player on show tonight, having commanded over 133,000+ transfers in ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

That follows a rich vein of form from the Spaniard which has produced three goals and three two assists from his last three Gameweek starts.

Perez sits behind Islam Slimani in the attack tonight, with the Algerian starting a Premier League match for Newcastle for the first time since his loan move from Leicester City.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It would be interesting to know what people tend to do. I think you're right that most do vote for their own, but I for one voted Kane and I don't own him or intend to.

To be fair, it is a tough call this week for captaincy, wouldn't expect anyone to be above 100% EO. Spurs and Man City could both do damage and if Salah is in a leaked liverpool lineup you'd expect him to be popular.

For the rest of the season

    A) Lukaka or
    B) Jesus
    (other striker is Kane)

    X) Sane
    Y) Sterling

Rival has Sterling...Sane just had 90 minutes rest...think he could be good for GW37 now? TC even?

I guess it would be hard to justify dropping Jones and Smalling unless they screw up. He also likes to play Lindelof in the easy games which doesn't help.

Rough: My oop pick of Bauer and Milner didn't work out. Ozil was a no show, although probly would've went Mane if known beforehand. No returns for Welbeck 🙁

Smooth: Salah (C), Laca, Baines over Coleman (because those extra 2 points feel good). 68 points and highest GW rank of the season.

Smooth: Got a greenie with no FH and 10 men playing including Hegazi and Fernandez who I had written off.

Rough: When my captain Sterling bought the Man City pen I thought I'd hit jackpot with my diff Gundogan ready to slot it home for an 11 point goal (probably would have meant Sterling 3 BAPS x 2 as well). Up steps Jesus - oh well at least I have him too....

Just smooth this week for me - got 79 points and a 4740 GW rank, my best ever.

      Smooth:
      - Initially, I had Butland as keeper and Robertson in defence, but due to the leaked Liverpool line-up I changed Robertson to Milner, which meant that I reluctantly had to change Butland to Hennessey. I wasn't happy about this change but got very lucky in that it got me 5 points.
      - Wenger's comments allowed FHers to select Lacazette over Aubameyang, getting a 9 point profit.
      - Somehow avoided all City rotation by picking Jesus, Sterling and KDB, who returned 26 points (and would've been 6-11 more if Jesus had made the penalty).

Really great week and the FH is a fun chip, big fan. Everything really fell into place for the FHers this week with Wenger's presser and the Liverpool leak.

Rougher than GreenWindmill - VVD, Wood, Mane and Milivojevic all blanked, and Tomkins stayed on the bench. 🙁

Seriously though, it was my smoothest game-week of the season by some distance. 😀
Free Hit played, Sterling captained, and Monreal autosubbed in to replace Otamendi.
82 points, GW rank 2154 and shot up 99k places from 189k to 90k.

rough: overthought things. At last minute wanted differentials so went Fermenia & Auba over Baines & Laca. Went 2 OOP defenders - didn't work. Convinced myself Laca wouldn't play 60 minutes due to Europe and Auba would make an impact coming on - so 50% right !!
Those extra pts cost me getting into top 20.

Rough: Bellerin over Monreal, tried to be clever and not go with the crowd on Auba/Laca so brought in Ozil and Tosun to avoid the situation, you never know my beloved West Ham might do me a favour. That went well...
Smooth: 71 FH points, best GW rank all season and gone from second in my League to 44 points clear and joining the 100k club may still be a possiblity!

Fabianski, Jesus (c) and Sterling owner....
          Went through all the emotions:
Hope he saves it from Gundogan, if not get Sterling assist
Hear Jesus is taking it, hope he scores for +8 and +3
          Jesus misses, -11 -2 +3 but +6 for Fabianski
Jesus then does eventually score +8
Fabianski ends up on two bonus!

In the end it turned out better. Also it's the first ever penalty save I've had in the game when he was on for getting 1 or 2, always missed the others, including taking out Pope before Newcastle away this season.

        Joy, at last.

Two of my FH big hitters - Ozil and Sane - didn't play. So I got Ings & Tomkins points off the bench.

Baines, Lacazette & Monreal proved lovely FH differentials. Sterling and Jesus (c) worked out nicely.

82 points, best GW rank of the season, halved my overall rank. FH in 35 gameplan worked out well. All in all, very smooth.

Smooth. Cap $terling as Rambo only better scored this gw in my FHTeam and glad I played David Silva over KDB and doubled CS from Baines and Coleman.
Rough. Benched Michael Keane and played VVD + Got Wellbeck and Ozil insted of Laca and Arnie as I planed all week, bur Wenger's trap got me and finnished with Welbz upfront along with Jesus and Deeney who entered on Ozil place.
82 pts at the end guaranteed my ML mini award for April, so FH chip did some great job for me after BB last week!

        Ashley Barnes.

Had him since I wildcarded in 32, he’s played once for me so far (DG34 bench boost) and has scored when I’ve benched him each time.

Rough: My only blankers were Mane, Klavan and Bellerin.

just a little drop in the rank from 6357 to 7359....i feel i got lucky despite not having FH

Smooth: other 3 transfers in did well - Salah (c), Sterling and Jesus, + Barnes and Mariappa.
49 (-12) and only dropped 12k, damage limitation vs FHs, and team well set up for the upcoming double.

Smooth GW. Used my free hit and scored 81 pts with only three players blanking.

All three strikers scored including my punt, Danny Ings. Had Jesus and Lacazette too.

Also on the roll of honour: Butland, Baines, Salah, Sterling (c), KDB.

Rough: Having to go back to my actual team and seeing Hegazi, Bauer and Doucoure.

Smooth: A decent Free Hit return of 75pts, thanks to Hennessey (10), Sterling (11), Salah (7), Lacazette (13), Sterling captain (14) and the Coleman-Baines double-up (14).

Rough: People won't like me complaining about a good score, but I'm slightly disappointed in myself for switching Mane and D. Silva for Ozil and Sterling due to concerns on here about Silva's nailedness (ironyyyy). Those were my final transfers before the deadline and cost me 10pts. Then on Saturday I switched my prefered captain from my favourite choice, Sterling, to the more nailed choice, Jesus, which cost me a little more still (4pts).

Without doing the maths, I'm pretty sure I have not outscored what I would have got over the previous 3 gameweeks if I used FH in GW33 and saved my WC for GW36. I had my team set up nicely for this week, and would have got nearly 70pts anyway and the added bonus of being on the WC right now. I switched plans on the Friday going into GW33 due to the leaked Liverpool team revealing that Firmino was absent, which was the final straw, causing me to activate the WC. Oh well...

One final point is that if I had stuck with my original FH team I'd have got 89pts (14 points more), which would have been enough to teak the lead in my ML for the first time this season. Currently sitting 12pts behind, and catching up at a snail's pace. Infuriating 😆

5 minutes before the deadline I switched my FH team from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 . I brought in Lacazette, Ramsey and Monreal for Firmino, Sane and Maguire .Otamendi didn’t play but as I had switched to 3-4-3 the autosub skipped my first sub Zaha and  I got the 6 points from my second sub Tomkins.

Ended up with 87 points .  My best ever GW rank of 519 and my OR improved from 430k to 195k

        Smooth: Everything after!

Laca, Sterling (c), KDB, Jesus, Baines, Butland all chipping in. 7k GW rank which is my best ever I think and massive FH success.

Up to 91k and still have TC left...I’ve been floundering at 250-300k all season and really not enjoyed the game much but weeks like this make it all worth it and reminds me why I still love this game! 🙂

Smooth: Free Hit of 84 points. Captain Sterling over Salah/Jesus was stat based thinking which came off. Absolutely nailing my Arsenal picks: Lacazette, Monreal, and in particular uber differential Ramsey was glorious! Ended on a gameweek rank of 1000 which I think is my best ever, and a jump from 150k OR to 66k 🙂

Rough: I know this sounds churlish when Ive just scored 84, but Jesus missing a penalty which would have been a Sterling assist aswell was a swing of roughly 9-13 points away from me. Zaha being booked for diving when he should have won a penalty. I also had a bench worth 21 points.....my bench last week on bench boost contributed 10 points....

Smooth: Fabinaski 9pts. Has been one of the few highlights from my season. A second pen save and the second to be shown in a live TV game (makes it even better sweating it out). Have had numerous unexpected hauls from him throughout the season. Who could forget the Liverpool shut out in GW24.

Rough: Took a -8 to bring in Zaha and Sane. Terrible. Was expecting a minimum return of 4 but ended up with 2. I guess that kind of puts to bed the Transfers only cost -2 points in a blank GW debate for me at least.

Rough: Ozil missing his game due to 'illness' (yet again) and having Klavan's measly 1 pt off the bench - I am certain Ozil would have hauled against the Hammers.
Jesus missing that penalty - an easy minimum 8 pt swing with Sterling's assist and missed bonus points.
Taking out Monreal for VVD before the deadline was up.

As I’m Wildcarding in 36 (and Free hit in 34) I’ve been preparing for 35 without using the FH and trying to think of what MC players might be rotated in for the reduced week. Amazing smooth this week.
FH played - 86 points (GW rank 679). Jump from 138k to 58k + 10th straight green arrow. Without FH, old squad would have scored 28, so 58 point swing!

This was despite starting Moreno, benching Hennessey, benching Ings and forgetting to save a late captain switch from Jesus to Sterling.

        Team was:
        Pickford,
        Baines, Moreno, PVA,
        KDB, Sterling, Salah, Ramsey, Zaha
        Jesus (C), Lacazette.

Very smooth FH. 79. Captained Sterling. Had Laca, Jesus, KDB, Baines. Green arrows since 31.

Rough: had Hennessy, Ramsay and Montreal in my first draft and changed it at the end for Karius, Zaha and Mustafi.
But at the end of the day not so bad with 69 points. Captained Jesus so it's a split in that regard! Could have been better but could have been worse!

Rough: after a terrible season, on a FH, decided to amuse myself by a triple Arsenal front 3 of Auba, Laca, Welbeck - hoping for a Wenger-departure-news bounce. Captained Laca into the bargain. All my chips on red (& white!) 85 minutes played they'd just about made double figure score between them.
Smooth: in the final five minutes Laca bags a brace and 26 points alone. Gameweek saved - I'll never forget the only gameweek in my FPL career in which I had three forwards from the same team!

Smooth Played FH chip. Got in Baines Monreal Sterling Lacazette Jesus and put the armband on Salah for 75 points. This is my fifth season as a FFS member but the first time I have got into the top 100 OR.
        Rough PVA on bench.

Smooth - Ramsey, double Everton defence, Butland replacing Cech.

Rough - As Gundogan Sterling and Jesus owner, Jesus taking the penalty was a blow. Gundo scoring would have been great differential points + the Sterling assist and possible BAPs for both.

        Rough - Brought in Otamendi for a -4 🙁
        Smooths
        - Did a -8 overall and brought in triple city (Ota/Jesus/Sterling (c)) but got 55 points (after hits) with no FH,
        & 140K OR rise from 757K to 617K
        - Had Hennessey starting for his cool 10 points 🙂

        73 points

lots of ML rivals prepped teams for BGW 31 to save free hit for now.

I FH BGW31 and Wildcard BGW35, meant I had a full team in both and scored a combined 181 points across the 2 blanks

Scoutcast/FFS wisdom is finally paying off for this novice FPL manager (3rd season). Thanks Jonty & Co!

Very smooth last two weeks (up 500K spots!) after a season full of rough. 79 points in GW35 with FH is my highest ever GW rank (4,740) and comes on the back of bench-boosted 107 (-4) in GW34.

GW35 smooth: Lacazette in for Firmino, triple City, and strong FH defense (Baines, Pickford, Tompkins). Minor roughs were Mane, Zaha, and VVD.

DGW34 BB was rough until the late games and triple ManU (Smalling, De Gea, and Lukaku) made me forget the roughs of Morgan, Willian, and Mahrez.

Was at a depressing 885K after GW33, far below Top 200K finishes of past years, but have gained over half a million spots in two weeks! Now at 383K and pushing for respectability in my MLs. I've also leapt in front of the wife who is in some of the same MLs. Strong final GWs and a good TC pick and I could get my highest-ever finish (best is 116K).

        Smooth (with no free hit)
Fabianski (Jonty was asking for Fabianski owners)
        Walcott
Vardy, Mahrez, Lingard, Alonso out Sterling, D.Silva, Jesus and Lowton -12
        Gaining rank despite the hits.
Getting to keep man city assets.

        Rough
        Aubameyang vs Laca
        Firmino
VVD, Mustafi and Bauer no clean sheet.

Got some great smooths for this week. Made temporary freehit team on monday. Then on saturday my phone died and i was traveling, so couldn't check lineups and make other last minute tinkering. Ended up with Lacazette, which i had put in instead of auba. Whole game even wished for auba goals instead of Laca. Also got heaton and robertson starting and not playing. In comes Hennesey and Tomkins.. 29 points instead of 8 if scores had sticked and heaton and robertson played..

      Pope (Hennessey)
Smalling, Kompany, Robertson (Lowton, Van der Hoorn)
      Salah, Sterling, Son, Zaha (King)
      Aubameyang, Jesus, Firmino

      1FT, 2.0 in bank

What do with my FT? Considering Son -> Eriksen or Pope -> Pickford.

All might just end up playing 1 match each. Willian might just end up playing 2, if Chelsea win against Liverpool, they'll need to keep up the momentum. Not sure, if he'd play the full 90 though.

          Barnes - Vardy - Lukaku
          (Ryan - Morgan - Groß - Alonso)

Morgan will play surely? Was just given a rest. I would still fix that defence a little though. Get a Newcastle defender and in. Sterling should be your number one city target. Wouldn't take out lukaku now. In decent form, and has a good double.

Newcastle? Fancy them keeping clean sheets here on out?

If I don't take out Lukaku (for Jesus), I won't have many options moneywise. Thinking Smalling for the DGW, but not until after the Arsenal match.
