Fantasy Eliteserien – Gameweek 7 Preview

After two action packed double Gameweeks, featuring some sensational defensive scores for those that played their “park the bus” chip, its back to the normal grind of single matches again. Here we take stock of recent events in Norwegian top flight game Fantasy Eliteserien and look ahead to Gameweek 7’s matches and key players.

Gameweek 7

Ranheim – Vålerenga

(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

Despite a 0-2 loss to Brann, Ranheim look capable of taking on the bet in the league, while Vålerenga are trying to lock in their season form after some mostly decent, but uneven performances. This one can go either way, but we do expect to see goals here.

Erik Tønne is Ranheim’s midfield dynamo and a player we urge you to consider if you do not already own him.

For Vålerenga, Chidera Ejuke looks strong on the left flank and is always in contention for the bonus. Forward Sam Johnson is another shrewd investment, with three goals in five appearances since joining this year.

IK Start – Haugesund

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Start can’t seem to catch a break, having lost yet another keeper to injury on Wednesday. Fantasy managers are running away from this Start team in large numbers, and Haugesund are favorites to take this one even though it is away from home.

Haugesund have a gem stashed in their squad in Babajide David Akintola, a 5.9 priced midfielder who has attacking returns, as well as bonus points, in each of the last four games. The Nigerian, who is on loan from Danish side FC Midtjylland, is  central to Haugesund’s attacking play.

Molde – Odd

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

After scrapping a win very late against Lillestrøm, Molde failed to score against Vålerenga and have been overtaken by Brann at the top of the league.

As expected Molde are rotating a lot, and their goalkeeper Andreas Linde seems like the only safe pick.

Odd have had a disappointing start to the season, but impressed against Sarpsborg on Monday with forward Elba Rashani the standout player. It’s worth noting that defender John Kitolano was taken off at half-time.

Sandefjord – Brann

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Sandefjord have had a horrible start to the season. They look like the worst team in Eliteserien currently and have already having sacked their head coach. Brann on the other hand have looked really impressive, and deservedly sit at the top of the league. We can’t look beyond a Brann victory here, and back popular picks like Vito Wormgoor, Taijo Teniste, Gill Rolantsson, Gilbert Koomson and Steffen Lie Skålevik to do well here. Fredrik Haugen is likely to miss out yet again with his hip injury.

Sarpsborg 08 – Bodø/Glimt

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Sarpsborg have looked worse than expected in the last couple of games, and surprisingly had no chance against Odd on Monday. There’s also a lot of rotation going on, and it doesn’t seem like they have found their best starting XI yet. Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen seems like the safe picks, although there seems to be little value in the latter at the moment. Bodø/Glimt are in the middle of a tough  fixture run and with in terms of form there’s no players worth considering for us.

Tromsø – Kristiansund BK

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Tromsø are flying high at home so far this season, and will look to extend that streak against a close-knit Kristiansund team. Tromsø are favorites for this clash, and it remains to be seen if Kristiansund can keep up. The host’s Gjermund  Åsen has scored two and assisted four in the first three home games, and will surely be a popular captaincy pick this gameweek. But Kristiansand are rarely heavily beaten.

Strømsgodset – Rosenborg

(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

This is the standout encounter of the round, involving two teams with high expectations that have endured bumpy starts to the campaign. Stromsgodset’s form has ranged from fantastic to dismal, while Rosenborg have been average, bar a superb performance against rivals Molde.

This game is in essence a battle of the predicted top strikers, with the home side’s striker Marcus Pedersen (and to a much lesser extent Mos) pitched against the visitors Nicklas Bendtner and Alexander Søderlund.

Strømsgodset’s Eirik Ulland Anderse and Bassel Jradi are ones to monitor but  look unlikely to be major picks just yet. As it is just now, there is just no telling how this will end up, so don’t look to bring anyone in for this game, but if you have assets you may as well play them.

Stabæk – Lillestrøm

(Monday, 6:00 P.M.)

This is among the hardest games to predict this gameweek. Both teams in poor form and Stabæk’s Ohi Omoijuanfo  is doing little to justify his 9.3 price tag, despite a goal against Start on Wednesday.

Ola Brynhildsen is one of few positives for Stabæk these days. For Lillestrøm, Erling Knudtzon is a good pick up front despite his side’s poor form.

Players To Watch

With six rounds, including some hefty double gameweeks and chips played, it is time to look at how the league has turned out and what players stand out for us.

It seems clear that high-flying Brann have the prime defensive picks so far, with their whole backline looking like a solid choice for the foreseeable future. Wormgoor is likely a season-long pick as both him and the team look rock solid. Teniste has slotted right into Brann’s defence and has been receiving a lot of praise lately. Rolantsson seems to be nailed on in the team sheet at the moment, he’s been utilized at both left back and left wing recently. Koomson is starting to come alive and emerging as a pick again. Skålevik is also worth considering at a budget price, as it seems like he’s cemented his place up front in the team.

Molde are also solidly in the top, but as feared pre-season the rotation hazard makes picks from this team a gamble no matter what. Linde looks a rock-solid choice for premium keeper, at least until the world cup selection where he might be gone for a while following Gameweek 10. For other choices from Molde, look to the specific gameweek preview and be ready to rotate the players in and out as needed.

FK Haugesund have a flying start so far, and offer up some nice budget picks moving forward, as well as a decent mid-to-high price selection in defence. We want to point out Akintola as a great 5.9 midfielder pick though, and since the strikers have yet to single out any must-have picks, Frederik Gytkjær at 6.8 is a decent choice up top for now.

Rosenborg have had a bumpy ride so far this season but may have turned the corner with a recent winning streak. Their premium priced strikers are not showing value for money yet, although Søderlund could possibly becoming essential really soon with Bendtner focusing on Denmark’s World Cup adventures.  As per previous analyses Hedenstad still looks a decent selection, if somewhat pricey, and Reginiussen offers up an only slightly cheaper alternative with some set-piece threat in the box and bonus potential. The surprise dropping of Helland from the squad this weekend shows the danger of having this high-price player in your lineup, as there was no warning at all of his absence once again.

Tromsø are flying high, and seem to have preserved some of their structure from the fantastic season run-in last year. Espejord is stepping up as a viable striker selection at only 6.6, and in the midfield there is rife with choice. Berntsen at 5.1 looks a bargain in a far advanced role on the pitch, Åsen at 7.5 plays a bit deeper than Berntsen, but still has a  habit of gathering points.  At the back they have adapted wingbacks and with the forward-minded style have made Nilsen a real attacking threat at 5.0. Antonsen also offers some attacking threat from his out of position, box-to-box midfield role.

Strømsgodset have been up and down so far this season, with major picks like Ulland Andersen and Jradi not delivering. Nguen on the other hand has started the season really well, and looks like a bargain at 7.1. Despite a poor showing against Haugesund away, Pedersen still looks like the best striker option in the game currently.

Vålerenga also offer some interesting fantasy picks. Ejuke is probably the hottest of them all as a 7.6 midfielder. Some of you might remember him from the end of last season where he was a bit hot and cold, but so far this season he’s been pretty hot receiving bonus points in four out of six games so far. Johnson at 8.6 also looks like a good pick up front, with  one of the league’s best shot rates.

On the dark side of the Eliteserien, Sandefjord are sinking fast, as are Stabæk and Start. Their form is so shoddy that you’ll likely want to shy away from any selection in these teams for the time being.

Thanks again. Another incredible preview - so detailed.

I've added a few first names in where I could find them - drop me a line if I've got any wrong. 🙂

And well done those that parked their buses last time out - been hearing of some sensational scores from this awesome chip.

It's a brilliant chip, I got 126 pts from my five defenders, all on a double gameweek and played 'Park the Bus'. 156 pts in total. A quick look at the FFS league and you can see that it was a popular option, more than 40 of the top 50 in the FFS league opted for it I believe.

Probably because everyone who didn't opt for it this GW are now outside top 50, like me who played PTB in GW4 🙁

Good point Niemi and thanks once more for the article, it's extremely helpful and insightful. I've had my one week of glory so back to my usual mediocrity now.

Armband on Asan this week for me.

Great summary. Hadn't noticed Kitolano's substitution which could stuff one of my plans.

Still holding out some hope for Stabæk goals this gw, but need to lose at least one of Ohi/Brynhildsen. Would ideally be Ohi asap, but wealth of midfield options challenging Brynhildsen for the spot.

In your opinion, does Reginiussens set piece threat and cheaper price make him a better option than Hedenstad in the new formation?

I still think I prefer Hedenstad, but it's certainly worth a debate. Reginiussen will, as MrKlin says, pick up way more bonus and could get a few more goals from corners.

One of the main factors for one of my mini league rivals ending up with a score of 160, was going with Reginiussen instead of Hedenstad.

If I had to choose now, I'd probably gone for Reginiussen, actually.

        Hi lads

Would appreciate your enlightened thoughts on my transfer this week.

        Remove:

        A. Kabran
        B. Gjertsen
        C. Storbæk

        Get:

        1. Akintola
        2. Åsen/Berntsen
        3. Ejuke

        Thanks

Of those, Gjertsen is unsure this week, while both Kabran and Storbæk are both able to score points even if their teams aren't. He'll net you more cash too, and has been the less proliferate of the three so far.

For this week I'm partial to Akintola, but that's just a hunch, so I'd say either of the Tromsø players are possibly safer long run.

Thanks. Cash isn’t a big issue as I have 5.5m in the bank!

I’m leaning towards Akintola- I have a similar hunch!

I would get rid of Kabran and Storbæk first, if it looks like Gjertsen is fit. That's the big question. The question is also how will Sandefjord line up and where will Storbæk play, now that their manager is gone. And will Kabran get back into the team for the weekend?

The players you mentioned are all good options

          1. Badluck Jonathan
            • 9 Years
            5 years, 11 months ago

Yeah, I think my patience has run out with Kabran. Start are not in a good place at the moment and he’s not even guaranteed pitch time. Might keep Storbæk for now and see if the new manager can turn things around.

        3. MTPockets
            5 years, 11 months ago

Comes down to whether Gjertsen plays. If so Kabran probably has worst playing form and fixtures.
Gone for Berntsen myself over Akintola, couldn't yet afford Åsen/Ejuke. All seem decent options.

            1. Badluck Jonathan

Can never seem to get any reliable injury news in this league! Been expecting Gjertsen to return for a while now. Might just keep hold and see what happens.

What was your thinking on Berntsen over Akintola?

              1. MTPockets
                  5 years, 11 months ago

Both advanced but Berntsen has much lower ownership so more gain from his pts (2% vs 15%). Hoping he may cover some of Asen's returns (32%). Cheaper so leaves more available for a later decision on other picks.

Akintola has iks, vif, KBK, bra, RBK
Berntsen has slightly easier run with KBK, bra, LSK, bg, VIF

Haugesund have scored 9. Form arguably a little out of the blue vs end of last season. But to be fair so is Akintola.
Tromso have scored 14, and continuation of form from end of last season. i.e. perhaps more sustainable.

(Caveat - I'll probably be getting Akintola soon as well, and could probably make opposite case for him using different pespectives - e.g. some stats here: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/18079333)

                    Very comprehensive - thanks!

I don’t look at ownership and don’t believe in coverage! Short term fixtures seem to favour Haugesund. And Tromsø won’t play Sandefjord every week...

I think I’ve made up my mind!

Good luck though - I hope they both do well

                        5 years, 11 months ago

Ownership/coverage - neither do I really. Self justification because I could't afford Asen.

              Two Brann updates

              1) Haugen has a tear in one of the hip muscles. Definitely out for the weekend and could miss a few more, but could also be back soon. They don't know, they have to see day by day. It's the pain stopping him.

              2) Kristiansen will miss out at the weekend (at least), so Rolantsson definitely going to play LB. Marengo or Vega to play at left wing.

Question on the article - there's a line that says:

Decent attacking threat for Tollås, but don't rate Vålerenga defence that much. Tromsø in great form, especially at home. Nilsen so attacking for Tromsø, plays a lot like Alonso IMO (except for no set pieces). Could easily had a few more goals than he has.

Anytime goalscorer odds for some defenders this GW:
                            Nilsen 3.35, Rolantsson 4.60, Tønne 4.70, Wormgoor 5.20, Reginiussen 9, Meling 9.50, Hedenstad 10, Antonsen 10

It reminds me of Rolantsson last season, some of the bookies took a while to adjust to his new and more attacking role. They offered way higher odds than they should. 3.50 might be optimistic, but shouldn't be more than 5 IMO. He's getting into the box a lot, kind of reminds me of Alonso without direct free kicks.

So who to get read of first, ohi or floki? Thinking ohi as it free up more funds. Alternative is floki for Skålevik. Kabran is going out for Berntsen or akintola, most likely Akintola as i allready have åsen. That leaves me with solberg and maybebrochman to sort out but not taking hits to get rid. Solid moves?

                          Floki -> Skålevik
                          Kabran -> Akintola

Just checked the forecast. Seems like it will snow the whole of Saturday and early hours of Sunday. Should be 95 % fine for the game unless the forecast changes.

Only concern is if it comes a lot of freezing rain, that could cause traffic/airport problems.

Dunno really. Maybe move funds from defence to mids. Maybe Hedenstad>Nilsen and upgrade Tokki to a premium mid. Think that balances it out a bit more and gives you more flexibility when the premium mids start hitting form.

With the current squad you'll always find yourself benching Tønne because he's the cheapest defender. Psychologically it's easier benching a 5m player (say Nilsen) than a 7m (Hedenstad).

Looks good. Not sure I'd have 2 x double up on defs, but a fair bet.

Would play Skålevik over a def, probably a Rosenborg defender. SIF almost always score at home - all 3 this season and every game bar one last season (although ironically that was vs Rosenborg).

I've got nothing against the individual picks you have in there, but as others have pointed out you have a massive benching issue. Maybe too much funds at the back if some of the premium midfielders start firing, and I personally think not getting Nilsen on a WC is a mistake.

The problem for me is no premium midfielders are performing at the moment, but I think it's just a matter of time. Maybe Nguen to Koomson or a Knudtzon punt? I do like Nguen, but a double up might be too much in Strømsgodset current on-and-off form.

Late to the party here, but just to throw something in...

What about dropping Pedersen? Seems crazy but next 4 games are RBK, bg, S08, Mol. I wouldn’t captain in any of those and you could invest elsewhere.

Bit maverick but I’m going without him for the next 4... fingers crossed.

That is indeed a bit radical, the RBK and Molde games are obviously a bit tough, but I'd think the two matches in between should be able to create some results for Pedersen. You're probably correct about the captaincy part, though. On the other hand, if you have a substitute that's likely to perform better the next 4 matches, I say go for it. The gameweeks so far has shown that forwards in general are rather hit/miss, even Pedersen, so it could pay off.

I agree with some of these points, but I have some arguments against:

                                      1) Pedersen have looked like the best striker so far
                                      2) Where do you invest instead? There's not a lot of premium players performing well, you can afford most of them with Pedersen in your team anyway.

I see what you’re saying. It’s a risky strategy for sure due to his ownership. It mostly comes down to the fact that I don’t own him and think I can get more points by focusing elsewhere.

I wouldn’t sell him if I had him, but on a wildcard I would consider going without till gw12.

Ian Burchnall in contention for the Sandefjord job. Hope he gets a shot because I think he was unfairly treated at Viking.

I really like him, and I fully agree with you. He was unfairly treated at Viking. Sandefjord is a tough place to go though, they will struggle to stay up no matter who they get as their manager.

I'm not keeping a 10m player that might miss a lot of gameweeks, that's pretty urgent to me.

Transferred out for Assen on Tuesday. My team value is not that great yet so I can not afford a loss on a non playing asset. He can be bought back when he is declared fit for a cash gain if you act quickly and keep your ear to the ground for news.

Also transferred for Ejuke. With two other Brann players it allowed me to shuffle Skålevik in with my second FT, so depending on his continued form (or not), I may not even pick up Haugen when he returns. Plus it gave me some extra cash to spare, so in my case it might actually be for the better.

They said it's hard to know when he's back, he'll probably be in pain for a while. He could be back next GW, but he could miss a few more GWs as well. I don't think it's worth the risk with a 10m player, especially as he might be playing with some pain when he's back. Had his worst game of the year against Stabæk at home, when he played through pain and the team was great.

The one you have most faith in. A lot of decent options this week, no standout "must captain" option IMO.

Depends on the rest of your team. Ejuke might be enough Vålerenga if you got him, but at the same time they are going into a bunch of nice fixtures.

Koomson starting to come alive now, but I definitely see more value in double Brann defence and Skålevik up front.

Haugen out for me. I can't keep him around if he's out and he's so expensive. I'm looking at Akintola, Asen, and Ejuke probably.

I'm also looking at Kabran out, or maybe Floki, but I could save and play Teniste as he's my first sub.

Captain I'm really not sure. Maybe someone I bring in.. I think it's wide open this week

Just a suggestion, but have you looked at Mortensen? I'm undecided on this one myself, but Sarpsborg have two of the next three fixtures as home, as well as very nice fixtures after GW10. Mortensen looks like one of few nailed on players, might be worth a shot on a WC?

Hmmm. Would like him instead of Pedersen to be honest, SIFs fixtures are not the greatest. Problem is Pedersen has been doing so good! Great differential, will look into it...

It looks really strong but I probably wouldn't go Rolantsson. You're creating a benching headache with Tonne there too.

The midfield looks nicely template and the forward line looks good

I know the benching is there but a Brann double up looks intelligent and one Rosenborg def as well, add Nilsen to the mix and there's not much to do! Why is Rolantsson not on your radar, rotation risk?

Nah he's a great option. I just think you've spent a bit much in defence.

That said you can switch formations really easily. I always worry that big hitters will emerge up front but that hasn't really happened this year, and the rest looks strong, so maybe go with what you have!

Soderlund 11.5 seems a bit steep imo as Rosenborg is playing shite atm. Aasen and Nilsen probably enough from Tromsø, Rolantson going to be left back now that Kristiansen is most likely to be under the knife for an ongoing thigh or groin problem, Teniste at 5.6 is as good an option imo. Komsoon, while Haugen is injured takes all free kicks and corners, Mortensen instead of Soderlund gives you more in midfield, Vetlesen is a cm, so going up to Brynilsen at 4.8 seems wiser. Plays almost as a striker atm. But team looks good, balanced but maybe a tad expensive up front which i think you don´t need as Tippeligaen is a tight league, not much in between the teams and therefore cheaper strikers do reasonably well compared to expensive strikers.

I've already sold Kabran for Akintola, and I'll take my first ever hit in Fantasy Eliteserien this GW as well. Most likely I'll sell Haugen for Ejuke.

I have also been looking at selling my 4.5 midfielder for Berntsen, benching Haugen this GW and switch to 352 when Haugen is back, but the uncertainty about Haugen and his injury makes him too much of a risk to keep for me.

Captaincy is still up in the air. I was pretty set on bringing in either Berntsen or Åsen and captain, but at the moment it seems like I won't have any attacking assets from Tromsø. Akintola, Ejuke and Ohi the players I'm considering most, but I'm also looking at Wormgoor and Nilsen as outside picks.

352 is legitimate for sure but I think Haugen needs to go.

I just can't wrap my head around captaining a defender but maybe I need to change my mind on that

Armband on Wormgoor, I know the risks but think it could be worth it most weeks.

After a great 120 point PTB chip sending me from 30k to 7k have realised losing Nilsen for Kack was a mistake so getting him back in and losing Kack.

Also have got Pedersen in for Bendtner for a hit as feel he is better value going forward. There's other things to sort next week such as Haugen, Floki & Ohi so thought the hit was worth it this week.

Cap is Akintola at present but tempted by The Woorm as he seems to be the main man at the moment.

Linde - Worm Teniste Tonne Nilsen - Akintola Asen Kabran - Ohi Floki Pedersen

It's my first year playing this league but it seems to me early on that there are some great defensive options and i may be going 4 -3 -3 as standard if the boys at the back continue to rack up the points.

I ended up adjusting for Haugen, as well, so instead instead of flushing out two DGW players, I went
                                      Haugen -> Ejuke
                                      Floki -> Skålevik

                                      Team is currently
                                      Wormgoor - Teniste - Hedenstad - Tønne
                                      Åsen - Ejuke - Akintola
                                      Bendtner - Skålevik - Pedersen
                                      (Lenes | Brochmann - Kitolano - Vetlesen)

Wormgoor, Åsen or Akintola was my alternatives for captaincy, but I might be tempted to captain Skålevik now that I brought him in, actually. I see no reason why he won't perform against Sandefjord (and there should be no reason for him not to start?)

I would be very surprised if Skålevik didn't start, but it could be worth monitoring as this will be his third game in a week.

Yes, so far I feel funds and transfers have lined up quite well for me (despite belonging to those who missed out on this DGW park the bus 🙁 ). Basically, knowing my luck, it means it will crash and burn soon, haha!

And the captain choice is giving me a slight headache, yes.

Good point about Skålevik's third game in a week. I noticed he got subbed last match, although it's correct that he's still played a lot of minutes

Had two free transfers and exact cash to take out Kabran and Granli and bring in Hedenstad and Akintola this week.

                                      And I'm going with a 5-3-2 formation

                                      Linde
                                      Wormgoor Teniste Rolantsson Hedenstad Tonne
                                      Akintola (VC) Asen (C) Berntsen
                                      Bendtner Ohi

                                      Bench: Barli Floki Zachariassen Brockmann

Thanks Geoff, I had a pretty good gameweek last week with PTB so I have a wee bit of room to experiment. And I'm keen to try the Brann treble defence and the midfield double up for a few weeks just to be a little different.

At some point one of the Brann guys will go to a cheap defender, probably when a stand out, expensive, midfielder hits a run of form.

Bendtner at 13m have played as a winger in the last matches, i can´t see the value in a 13m player listed as striker playing wide in a 4-3-3? For a team that atm is number 6 or something in the table?

Started with him last year and sold him just before he fired... So this year I keep him until he goes to WC

he will get points so it´s not about that, but more like if one are willing to use 13m on a striker that plays like a winger in a team that haven´t hit form this season, yet. Last year he wasn´t fit before june, now it is his team that aren´t, he himself looks in good shape.

Will probably keep it simple and do Kabran > Akintola (k)

Probably looking at a one week midfield punt before WC. Akintola, Berntsen or Singh, then it's up to whether they start over Floki.

I bought Soderlund and Akintola this GW for -4. Giving the armband to Asen.

Not sure if I should double up on Brann defence and get Wormgoor as I already have got Rolantsson, but they just seem strong at the back and their defenders are also the main goal threat. Or just get Hedenstad as I don't have any Roseborg defender.

What do you recommend? This is the team:

                                      Karlstrom
                                      Rolantsson Nilsen Toone
                                      Asen Akintola Brochmann Sigurdarson
                                      Soderlund Pedersen Ohi

                                      Johanssen Storbaek Granli Kitolano

Did EUA to Akintola and currently on Akintola (K) too.

Not thrilled with my attacking options this week, so might drop Haugen for a hit and play his replacement (whoever that is) over Lokberg/Storbaek.

Will Koomson be on set pieces when Haugen is back? I have 3 Brann defenders already, but tempted to get rid of one for Koomson.

Marengo and Koomson to share corners. If Vega starts over Marengo he'll probably have a share.

Wormgoor will probably be first in line at direct free kicks, but the wingers will probably be interested as well.

Thanks. I havent watched to much of Eliteserien so far. They said on TV that Kristiansen would need to get an operation soon. Will that mean that Rolantsson will be playing at the back most weeks?

Really? Missed that he might need an operation, but he's been struggling with the same injury for a while so makes sense. He's out for the weekend at least. Rolantsson will play LB as long as he's out

Yes. I think one of the commentators said so in the start of the 1st half when he was still playing and not injured.
