A short lull in Premier League action has afforded us time to re-assess our Watchlist rankings. These have now been fully updated to reflect form and the fixture list over the next month and, as always, you’ll find them in your right-hand sidebar. Read on for a summary of the key movements and factors at play…

Goalkeepers

Tim Krul holds the top spot amongst the stoppers, despite the 5-0 White Hart Lane drubbing, with Wolves, Sunderland and Norwich all due in his backyard in the next four Gameweeks.

Krul’s fixtures do hand him a tough away trip to Arsenal in Gameweek 28, however, with Liverpool also visiting in Gameweek 31. There’s no obvious rotation option to work in tandem with the Newcastle keeper– Wolves’ Wayne Hennessey has Blackburn and Bolton at home in those Gameweeks, while Villa’s Shay Given also has two home matches – Bolton and Chelsea. Norwich City’s John Ruddy could be another option to work with Krul. The Norwich keeper has Wigan at home while Krul visits the Emirates and then hosts Wolves with Newcastle at West Brom, with a visit to Fulham on offer as an alternative to Krul’s home fixture with Liverpool.

If you’re looking beyond Krul for your keeper option, then Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi climbs to second as a serious budget consideration. While the Latics back four is porous, four home fixtures against Villa, Swansea, West Brom and Stoke offer the Oman international the opportunity to grab an unlikely clean sheet, while Al-Habsi has already hovered up save points so far this term – including four penalty saves.

Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer is now back in Martin Jol’s starting lineup and offers coverage of their defence during a kind run of fixtures, although full-back Stephen Kelly looks a cheaper route into the Cottagers’ back line. Shay Given returns to the reckoning, with favourable home fixtures with Fulham and Bolton hovering, following two away trips to Wigan and Blackburn. Given looks to work well in tandem with Stoke’s Thomas Sorensen or QPR’s Paddy Kenny over the next four Gameweeks.

At the top end of the price bracket, Chelsea’s Petr Cech joins City’s Joe Hart as a consideration – the keeper possibly offers the most secure route into a Chelsea defence that faces Bolton, West Brom and Stoke in the next three.

Defenders

Vincent Kompany continues to wrestle with team-mate Micah Richards for the spot as the most coveted defender. With Richards rested at Villa, the City skipper looks to have sealed the spot atop our Watchlist rankings with his greater security. Across the other side of Manchester, Jonny Evans now looks well established in the United back four and offers outstanding value, despite two away trips to come for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Ryan Taylor climbs back into our top five, in anticipation of his return to fitness and a spot on the right-flank for the visit of Wolves. If Taylor can cement this midfield role, he will clearly offer the strongest defensive option with the Newcastle lineup, despite his inflated price tag. Danny Simpson’s stock drops this week as a result.

Jose Bosingwa is our choice for Chelsea coverage, although he looks far from secure. He might just be worth a punt for the home clash with Bolton, despite defensive frailties in Andre Villas-Boas’ backline. Amidst talk of unrest in the Chelsea camp, Bosingwa looks to have established himself as a favourite, having started 10 of the last 11 league matches.

Midfielders

The top four here remain unshakable, although David Silva will need to produce a goal or two soon to hold off the push from Chelsea’s Juan Mata and team-mate Yaya Toure, who both enjoy climbs this week.

Yohan Cabaye returns to our thinking, having served his three-match ban – fixtures are in his favour over the next four Gameweeks and, with Cheik Tiote expected to return alongside him, Cabaye could be a key figure as Newcastle look to climb into the top four.

Wigan’s Victor Moses and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are low-to-mid price options pushing for consideration. Moses has four home games in six off the back of improved form, while Chamberlain will be looking to maintain his run of starts, despite the return of Gervinho from the African Cup of Nations.

Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov is the big differential lower down the rankings. Villa’s fixtures are strong and the Bulgarian remains the most likely to return attacking points in Alex McLeish’s midfield – edging Charles N’Zogbia, Stephen Ireland and Gary Gardner, who all seem less secure.

Forwards

Wayne Rooney begins to push the established top three but cannot break the trio of Robin Van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Demba Ba, who have either form or fixtures in their favour. Rooney is the only attacking option within the United ranks in our Watchlist this week, with Antonio Valencia dropping out through injury and Ashley Young and Nani set for the first league starts in months, when they visit Norwich next time out. Elsewhere in the United camp, a lack of security dampens enthusiasm for Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.

Below Rooney, there are some decent differentials available for those looking to shake-up the template forward line. QPR’s Bobby Zamora and Villa’s Darren Bent both have fixtures and decent form which should offer returns over the next four Gameweeks. Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge remains a consideration with fixtures compensating for a lack of form, while Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor will have to show fixture-proof qualities if he is to get close to replicating his outstanding returns in the 5-0 win against Newcastle over the next month.

Budget options take a backseat with mid-price alternatives looking strong this month. Swansea’s Danny Graham has form and looks the best option, despite three away games in four. Norwich’s Grant Holt edges above team-mate Steve Morison for the first time this season but will have to deal with the United, Stoke and Newcastle defences in the next four.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Pretty ignorant question:

Why aren’t Liverpool or Everton playing this week? Cup? Is there a chance one of them gets knocked out and the game will still happen?

Are people starting Jose Enrique in the off chance they have a game?

    Thanks all!

We should find out by the end of the weekend. If both Liverpool and Everton avoid a FA Cup replay, the game could be midweek of GW 26. Although n ot sure thats confirmed, but would make sense. The game would simply move back 3 or 4 days. Its not on the weekend as Liverpool have the league cup final.

"the off chance they have a game"? Are you serious?

KD: Fancy a knock about next week?
SAF: See you in the park at 3pm... bring your team... oh, and stewards, police, medical straff etc.

      I think not.

Ha well for me I read a lot of the comics and they've kinda wandered away from the storyline of the comics so that's where they lost me. Plus I think it did become a bit slow, still looking forward to this half of the season to see if it picks up though!

    Dear people of FFS,

First of all let me say that although it may appear I have simply been handed the reins at AEK Larnaca, I can assure you that I am a (un)fit and (im)proper person and with your support hopefully I can take this club to the promised land.

I must first congratulate my predecessor Reinaman for being an absolute gent while "signing over the deeds". There have been some very hurtful rumours in the press that he took some kind of cash settlement as part of this transfer, how very dare they! That money is just RESTING in his account. Please do not quiz me any further on this.

To the fans let me tell you that I shared a very serious and long conversation with headcoach Leon Vlemmings and Director of Football Jordi "I am a horrible disappointment" Cruyff this evening. The fact that this took place in a Cypriot outdoor hottub should not lead you to believe this was not a wholly professional gathering.

They drilled me all night 😯 and after a very thorough examination of my character 😯 they found me to also to be quite hard 😯 but also willing to roll my sleeves up and get my hands dirty . Fans, please do not fear me, I am here to bring success to the club and you have no reason to worry while I am in charge.

Good, now that I have got all that crap out of the way my first act as Manager/Grand Dictator is to declare a state of Prima Noctis in Larnaca. I'm sure you will agree it would be absurd, perhaps even complacent of me, not to invoke my right to take the virginity of my fan's maiden daughters on their wedding nights?

Thanks to my extensive knowledge of the club (thanks Wiki) I will remind our opposition that the club emblem is admiral Kimon, who died at the seafront defending the city of Kition (modern Larnaca) in a major battle in Cyprus at about 450 BC, in a fight against the Persians. He had told his officers to keep the news of his possible death secret. The quote "Και Νεκρος Ενικα" ("Even in death he was victorious") refers to Kimon. This will be rather fitting upon our early group stage exit 😉

I'll argue this till the end 😉 Sub 5.0 only Swansea's Dyer has scored more points and Gylfi is a far better option than Dyer if you're going Swansea route. If you're stuck looking for a budget midfielder under 5.0 - I'm struggling to see a better punt than Moses. Honest.

he likes to rise above it, which is exactly what he does when hes thinking about Moses 😆

McClean has scored 6 or more points in 6 of the 7 games he's started. In 24 starts Moses has managed to score 6 or more points 4 times.

McClean of course (see Watchlist) but the major issue with McClean is Sess. If you have Sess, do you double up on McClean. Given Sunderland's fixtures, I'd say it's a risk.

Classic Form V Fixtures issues here. If you had Silva + Aguero and both were on form, you would be happy to start both no? Can't see much difference with McC and Sess due to the position Sess plays upfront. I had both for 3 weeks and they both (perhaps luckily) scored very well.

Yep, McClean has it over Moses (see Watchlist) but Victor's a player who might just deliver a few handy points over the next few GW's if Wigan can just convert the confidence gained at Bolton into wins in their forthcoming home games. As a Sess owner, I think I'd rather gamble on Moses than go with two Sunderland mids for three away games in four with Liverpool the home game.

Hmm, there's a lot of sense here, but it's the sort of sense that put me on the Moses wagon pre season! Trick me once, shame on you.. trick me twice etc etc.

True, but each player in the McSess double returns more points than Victor. How about Ryo at Bolton, think he will be in the starting 11? Good fixtures from GW28.

Not sure what to do about Valencia at this stage - might hold tight or find a way to swamp to Nani. Downgrading to Cleverly is also something I am considering.

Chelsea sucks atm, and theres a possibility they will start with a young team. Birmingham has a habit of going very far in the FA Cup, last year they got to the quarters and the year before that too. The last 10 games in Championship, Birmingham has been unbeaten with 6 wins and 4 draws 🙂
Take a bet on them IMO, guess the odds on a Birmingham win are sky high!

I think he will "come Nani" if you catch my drift.

He never really has a consistent run of great form. He can be a different player everytime you seem him, one game he is a world beater and in other games like the Ajax one the other night he is complete cack.

Should a couple of his good performances coincide it is pure coincidence. When you get Nani you get him for his potential explosion, he is always capable but only sporadically delivers. Now that he is back and Valencia isn't a rotation threat, I'd expect at least one more explosion from Nani in our coming run of games.

This is ridiculous. As FFS manager of AC Milan I actually feel an obligation to Milanista to try to well! I'm away to Barca, managed by Zep, in the world top 5k and he gets an extra 4pts for being at home.

I'm not going to get any sleep for over a week 🙁

Ugh, I had him recently for 4 excruciating weeks. 3,2,0,3. To make matters worse, he was captain for the first two of those. Still, with a DGW and good fixtures to come you never know.

As I said... "contemplating". If all goes to plan (as if!) I can easily fit him in for L'pool's easyish run. Gotta sort my Totty cover now. Is Bale enough?

I know, just reading Gerrard reminded me of recent pains.

I think Bale's enough for now. Maybe want to look at adding to that either from GW31 or GW33 depending on when you see their good run starting.

The FA cup games this weekend are very important from an FPL perspective as some teams won't be playing GW29 and have DGWs later on. I'm not looking beyond the next couple of weeks until the cup games are over.

        😆 Love it.

Interesting how this Gotze specualtion is intensifying. I know he is one of your darlings in particular. Great player and I would probably have to clean out my underwear should we sign him but where do you see him fitting into United?

You're right about the young squad getting even younger as well. A lot of people fail to realise how young the core of that squad is with De Gea, Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Cleverley, Rooney, Hernandez, Nani and Valencia are all relatively young with plenty of years ahead of them. Also when you consider we have had a bucket load of injuries and our defence is getting by without the powerhouse that is Vidic for most of the season we are looking strong for the future.

If we sign Gotze people should be afraid very afraid.

Thing is with Gotze is he can play in the 10 role as well as on either flank so we wouldn't be solely reliable on Rooney for creativity upfront, which we are at the moment. I genuinely think he's a ballon d'or winner in the making, and would be our version of David Silva, cutting in from the left linking up play and weaving magic. I think that team, with Gotze, could eclipse the 2008 team in a couple of years. Bit of DM cover for Carrick would be good too mind.

Yeah - Young, very odd. Unless he wants 2 class wingers for the left and right.

              Young, Gotze, Nani, Valencia.

Gotze over Gaitan for me easily. Although i have watched more games of the german.

Think I'd have Gotze too. If we do sign either of the two, one of the wingers will surely leave, doubt it'll be Valencia so either of the others.

I think Fergie will keep Cleverley in mind when choosing a centre mid, have to assume he'll be fit. Need energy in centre mid for me, Cleverley can create from deep adequately.

Yeah but hopefully the wingers to leave will be Park and Bebe! My team for next season would be:

                  De Gea
                  Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra
                  Clev Carrick
                  Valencia Rooney Gotze
                  Welbeck

Jones, Evans, Nani, Young, Hernandez etc all to rotate in. Serious squad.

That'd be quality, Valencia's necessity to stick to the wing would give licence to Gotze to come inside as a second 10 (like Giggs against Liverplol the other week).

He's been playing fantastically, but Carrick is getting on now. He'll need to be replaced soon, Martinez is my choice.

There's one massive elephant in the room with the Gotze chat though. The glazers haven't spend £30m+ on a player in 4 years. Maybe they'd do it for a 19 year old potential superstar, doubtful though.

Also forgot to mention Pelebeck as one of the young players.

Agree with all of that to be honest. The team really suffers creatively without Rooney in the team so we need someone technically gifted to make things happen. Glad you also highlighted Carrick as important in that DM role. So many dim United fans just say he is shit because he isn't Roy of the Rovers, his discipline has been important since he recaptured his form.

What do you make of this Pogba character? He really impressed me when he came on against Stoke.

I watched a few reserve games and thought Pogba was all hype, lazy with a good shot. He changed my mind a bit though with his cameo the other day, looked really fired up and dangerous on the ball. Carrick has been superb this season, playing his best football i think.

Anyone want to take a cheeky bet tomoro?
Bet on the Chelsea v Birmingham match
Chelsea sucks atm, and theres a possibility they will start with a young team. Birmingham has a habit of going very far in the FA Cup, last year they got to the quarters and the year before that too. The last 10 games in Championship, Birmingham has been unbeaten with 6 wins and 4 draws
Take a bet on them IMO, guess the odds on a Birmingham win are sky high!

IMPRESSIVE TACKLE/LARNACA, since you have nothing better to do you could RMWCT for GW 28? 😛

    Here it is:
    Mignolet-Schwarzer
    BAE-Evans-Agger-Skrtel-R Taylor
    Bale-Dempsey-Yaya Toure-McClean-Sigurdsson
    Ba-RVP-Rooney

Will probs change some players based on form and injuries in the two coming GW’S.

-My keepers: Mignolet and Schwarzer are both very good keepers. Mignolet playing on the best form team in the PL atm, + Sunderland has become a much tighter defense with MON as their manager. As for Schwarzer, I think Fulham will start getting CS again with him back.

-My defenders: I think my defenders are very good, and all have good fixtures from GW 28 onwards. I’m doubling up on ‘Pool defenders because of the kind run of fixtures from GW 28 + they are tightest defense in the league. I will scout Raylor, etc about his gametime, which position he will be in , now that he’s back. He’s an amazing fantasy prospect if he’s nailed on for Newcastle.

-My midfielders: Bale and Yaya will be my weekly starters, with the others rotating based on form + fixtures. I think McClean and Siggy are quite good and very cheap shouts that helps me with getting my three strikers. Dempsey I like, he’s having a very good season for Fulham and are their best FPL prospect.

My forwards: RVP,Ba and Rooney, I will play them every week Nuff said.

I'm not Impressive Tackle but your a little weak in midfield and rather heavy at the back get rid of either R.Taylor or Agger for a cheaper option and get in Nani over Dempsey or upgrade Siggy/McClean.

      I'd say 8.75/10.

It's water tight in my view.

There are a couple of things that can be debated but you are best going with your own gut on these close calls. A few things though:
      - Mig/Schwarzer = I'm not sure on this keeper pairing with selection headaches in GWs 28, 33, 37 and 38.
      - Love the defence. I too am hoping to double on pool and I agree with your views on Raylor, if he is back in midfield for the rest of the season he is hard to ignore.
      - I like the midfield but I think you may be missing one necessary big hitter (this is the price you pay for that stellar defence). Dempsey is okay until GW33 at least but I think Nani will become desireable again and considering there is no one there you can straight swap him in for, that may cause problems.
      - Frontline is basically flawless.
