Mikel Arteta strikes at the death for Everton, his first Fantasy haul in five games, to claim a point for the visitors after loan star Danny Welbeck notched a brace for Steve Bruce’s Sunderland. Elsewhere in our collection of Tuesday morning scribbles, there’s news of a potential Christmas absence for Tim Cahill and updates on injuries to Joe Cole, Karl Henry and Chris Brunt…

Danny Welbeck continued his outstanding spell of form with a brace of goals in last night’s 2-2 draw with Everton. The United loanee took his tally to 3 in his last 2 matches then and earned his second consecutive 3 point Bonus haul in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Available for just 5.0 as a Forward option, he will be beginning to tempt investment, although it must be said that he will be under considerable threat for a role up front once Asamoah Gyan recovers from a thigh injury that kept him out of last night’s game. That injury cured Steve Bruce’s selection headache and allowed him to recall fit-again Darren Bent to the forward line. Welback could find himself out on the right-flank or even benched in away games, once Gyan is available for selection.

Before last night’s kick-off, Steve Bruce revealed the reason for Gyan’s absence on the night, but the most worrying injury setback concerned defensive stalwart Titus Bramble. News is thin on the ground right now but his own club’s website were wiling enough to go to print on initial fears that he has picked up a knee problem which may require surgery to fix. That will come as a major blow to the Black Cats’ back four and investors in their remaining defensive assets will now have to be wary of the impact that Bramble’s absence could cause over the coming weeks.

Elmohamady was once again on the bench for Sunderland. His prospects of a recall to starting XI look bleak given that Sunderland’s results have improved markedly since Bruce took the step to drop him to the bench. The likes of Boudewijn Zenden and Kieran Richardson (who both claimed assists last night) have now gone above him in the midfield pecking order. Over 20,000 FPL Managers have got rid of the Egyptian in the last Gameweek – more sales are to be expected in the weeks to come.

Tim Cahill’s opener for visitors Everton again demonstrated his value to them. He has now chipped in with seven goals in 13 appearances, putting all of his team-mates, and particularly the actual strikers, to shame. David Moyes however will now need to find a plan B in the not too distant future – Tim Cahill is set to head out with his Australian cohorts for a while…

“They are due to take Tim in mid to late December and depending how far they go in the tournament will determine how long he is away, I’m trying to delay him going until January and will do the best I can”

This is all in name of The Asian Cup, of which now Australia are a part of after switching allegiances a few years back. If Moyes isn’t dealt any favours and The Socceroos make good progress, then Cahill could be absent from Premier League actions for as long as six weeks. Fellow internationals Mark Schwarzer, Vince Grella, Brett Emerton and David Carney could also be called up for duty in this time – as well as Korean Republic internationals Park Ji-Sung and Chung-Yong Lee. It’s not quite as crippling as last season’s African Cup Of Nations, but something to beware of all the same.

Cahill’s goal last night was yet again assisted by Leighton Baines who then went on to set up Arteta’s equaliser – his fifth assist of the season and third in three matches. Incredibly, 8 of Cahill’s last 12 headed goals have arrived via the service of Baines from the left and he remains the most productive attacking full-back in the league.

The award of 2 Bonus Points to Mikel Arteta last night is made even more mysterious by some quick analysis of the performance stats. Steven Pienaar actually had more touches and completed more passes in Sunderland’s half than Arteta. While Arteta can boast 2 efforts on goal, Tim Cahill registered 3 goal attempts, all of which were on target. Leighton Baines meanwhile, aside from his 2 assists, put in more crosses last night than any other full-back over the Gameweek, and only Florent Malouda provided more successful crossed balls. Arteta it seems, is well and truly favoured by the Press Association representatives that award the FPL Bonus, and the Spaniad’s team-mates continue to get overlooked as a result.

Liverpool fans will be left wondering whether the following news is a blessing or a curse as Roy Hodgson revealed that Joe Cole had made progress in his recovery from injury…

”Joe is not that far away really, so hopefully he will have recovered in time for Tottenham.”

By all accounts this should be a bonus for Liverpool as one of their “star” players returns to the fray, but the £8.3m has had a fairly torrid start to his time at Anfield by all accounts. Investors in his team-mates will certainly have raised eyebrows, as whether by coincidence or not, Liverpool’s performances and results have been on an upward trend in his absence.

Newcastle may have a mini defensive crisis on their hands for the next few weeks as Fabricio Coloccini is already set to serve a guaranteed three game suspension for his elbow on Johan Elmander while partner in crime Mike Williamson will join him for that duration if he accepts a charge he received from the FA for a challenge on the same player. This move would likely see Sol Campbell and perhaps even Steven Taylor thrown back into the deep end this weekend, in front of the Sky cameras, as Chelsea come to visit. Drogba doubters may indeed want one last roll of the dice.

Remaining on the suspension front we move over to the Latics of Wigan who will now be down to their vice-vice-vice-vice-captain this week, with Gary Caldwell injured, Antolin Alcaraz suspended for one week having picked up two yellows and Hugo Rodallega out for three thanks to his two-footed effort at Old Trafford. Franco Di Santo will most likely look to step into the Colombian’s boots – we’re not even going to dare wonder what Mauro Boselli is up to these days – and offers a cheap lifeline at only £4.5m in the FPL.

It would also seem likely that Charles N’Zogbia and Jordi Gomez will be left to tussle over the matter of who takes the penalties for the next three games also, a handy bonus for whoever gets it. The fact that N’Zogbia has been speaking out again and calling Wigan ”a stepping stone” might not shine in his favour so much.

Wolves have been rocked by the news that their captain and chief enforcer Karl Henry is likely facing two months on the sidelines having picked up a medial ligament injury to his knee. One man’s loss is another man’s game and the likes of David Jones, Nenad Milijaš and Michael Mancienne (an FPL defender) will all have slightly more room to claim regular starts with Henry sidelined. [Andy]

The Baggies are in a right old slump right now so need every man they can get to turn it around, one of the key man who can help aid such things is previously scribbled “eight out of ten” performer Chris Brunt

”We’re hopeful he might recover for the next game, But he’s still a doubt and we’ll have to see how this week goes. He’s an important player for us.”

The words of Di Matteo are nothing near definitive at this early stage, especially considering he was equally hopeful on striker Peter Odemwingie for a good two weeks before he was able to actually return, but it certainly can’t be bad news for West Brom or those still clinging to Chris Brunt in their squads.

Does anybody knows what happens to the FPL gameweek/team/players if a game is canceled because of weather conditions? Will you get points from the canceled game when it is re-scheduled? Or don't you get points from that game at all?

Can't find anything in the rules section about this.

When games are rescheduled, the points count in the gameweek that they are played.

Happened quite a lot last winter leading to some bumper "double gameweeks" where lots of teams had two games.

They can be real bonuses if you play them right.

Was that the week that included the 4 goals against Hull?
          That was very nice indeed.

Almost made up for the week that all games were cancelled except for the Man City v Blackburn match where Tevez scored 34 points for everyone who had him, and everyone else's entire teams scored about 7.

Then your talking about an 8 point hit.

Both those defenders would have to keep a clean sheet to break even.

I would try and find another way around it if possible.

Still flying high Evasivo, I recently had a change of tack where transfers were concerned, less is more! I took 5 4 point hits, in 5 different weeks in the first 10 weeks, and they didn't pay off once, I dropped in ranking each of those 5 weeks. Not saying they don't work, they can work, they just haven't worked for me, since I held off making any 2 weeks ago, I have gone from 215,000 to 78,000, and have carried the extra transfer with me for the past 2 weeks and will do the same this week I think.

Hits will work someday for me, for now, patience!

        Well done again

Thanks JU! Yeah I've taken a point hit once this season & regretted it afterwards & obviously didn't pay off either. I think the only time I'll ever be able to justify it is if I'm unable to field 11 men or on the odd chance of bringing in a super Captain choice. Congrats on the green arrows!

I've been working on changing a winning 4-3-3 formation in metro to 3-5-2 and have had to take a couple of hits to do this. Not sure if it's the right way to go though but I do prefer all the midfield options over the strikers at the moment.
In UCL, I've already made 4 transfers with one more to come. I bet this last player I pick will be rested, I need team news!!

Its only an unfair advantage if you were getting emails straight from FPL towers feeding you info about price rises. Total FPL and FFS are available for anyone with brains enough to go to google and key in fantasy football or fantasty football tips.

Valuable research that is free and easy to access. Your rival needs to chill out a bit.

Yeah I agree. He isn't being a d1ck about it or anything, it's just his view.

Was interesting as I have only ever seen it as doing research that is available to anyone.

I think its the members bit of this site which did it. He doesnt know what is in it so just assumes it tells me who to pick every week etc.

This is why I don't link my team, if someone asks I will link it on occassion, but I feel my rivals would look at it in the same fashion, an "unfair advantage", that being said, if they found out, hey could use it too, no bother to me really.

Agreed. My finishes have actually been slightly worse since discovering ffs, but the amount of time i spend trying to manually research all the relevant data (injuries etc) is drastically cut down.

But in principal i dont do anything different, i still choose players in the same way (in fact ive lost count of the number of times a player im considering turns up in a scout report within a couple of days! lol)

No way. I personally told my rivals about this site though, I'm confident I can use it in a better way then him 😉

Cheating would be if you logged into his team and transferred in lots of shitty players, or if you found a way to hack the game to increase your point total.

This is fair play, although I don't really get why people keep this site secret from their rivals.

Then that should be one of your main arguments, if you've not kept it a secret then how can it be cheating? It's their own responsibility to check the surroundings.

This site is so popular now that anyone should be able to find it. Using it is a bit similar to watching press conferences and reading news papers to be honest, and nobody would call that cheating would they?

I have a list of players I want to get and players I want to get rid of. Then, based on fixtures, I try and work out an order to make the transfers over the coming weeks.

I am not one of those people, I do look at upcomging fixtures, for instance 6 weeks ago I pencilled in a Wolves player for their current "kind" run of fixtures, now I am not convinced I can get a whole lot out of them, same can be said for Blackburn who have a nice set of fixtures soon, but I will wait and see.

I admire people that plan that meticulously, not for me though, 2-3 weeks maybe I will take a look at players, but nothing beyond that.

If you try to plan more than a week ahead it is very hard to stick to it.

I try to plan ahead but plans change for a number of reasons.

It's always good to be aware of future fixtures etc though and have a few plans in mind.

I plan maybe 1 or 2 weeks in advance. I don't bother any further than that because there's always an injury that seems to pop up or a chance in the manager's tactics.

It sometimes stops you getting on bandwagons too 🙂 Not that all bandwagons are a bad thing.

      Nope, I don't.

When I get a player I make sure I want to keep him for about 5 weeks at least usually, and when I sell a player it's somebody I don't want in the longer run.

Doing that continually keeps the team fresh, but planning transfers for long ahead is not my style. Although I do occasionally plan one week ahead.

    My team for the weekend:

    Robinson (Carson)
    Coleman/Konchesky/Kolarov (Jara, Simpson)
    Nani/VDV(c)/Fabs/Adam/N'Zog
    Drogba/Tevez (Odemwingie)

Elmo to Onouha and Caroll to Elmander this week.

Then next week depending on Chelsea + Drogba's form this weekend do Drogba to Rooney. Blackpool away is a nice fixture and I have much faith in Rooney scoring 1 or 2 against Arsenal! Sure Chelsea isn't a great fixture but right now I'm not too worried!

    Odemwingie->K.Davies
However I'm a bit short on cash, what move would you recommend to fund that transfer:
    A) Drogba->Tevez
    B) Arteta->Bale (or N'Zogbia)
    C) Bosingwa-> P.Jones

Also possible is A or B + Bosingwa->Kolarov but that would mean 3 transfers insetad of 2.

He is a bit of a headless chicken to me, taps the ball 20 yards away at a time and trys to out-pace the defender. Don't see any reason why he won't start this weekend though, there is always speculation about the will he, won't he with Coleman, I would be planning a move out sooner rather than later if I were you Boss Hogg, nothing worse than being disappointed with the team sheets on a Saturday!

I'm not sure yet, I saw the game yesterday and I didn't think he was as bad as everyone thought. I think he'll play, maybe not 90 but at least some. My dilemma is having so many conflicting players this weekend and having already used my WC.

I have Robinson vs. Nani and VDV vs. Konchesky and I can either have Coleman or Jara in defence, one of them has to be benched to get most points I reckon. Oh and my other keeper is Carson!

I hope it goes ahead, and I'd be surprised if it doesn't.

To be honest I'm getting a bit sick of the amount of news coverage that, shock horror, it gets colder and sometimes snows in November, is getting.

The entire front page of the Daily Express yesterday was basically, "It might snow later this week - panic". It also contained a nugget of information saying that temperatures will fall to the coldest they've been in the UK since March. I'm no weather expert, but I'm pretty sure that temperatures generally get colder as we approach winter and I'd bet that pretty much every year sees temperatures in November reaching their coldest since March. Still, at least it's not bloody Royal Wedding news I suppose...

normally though novembers still variably autumn and winter doesnt really start until half way through december, we dont get much snow before christmas its january and february where we get most of it, some councils havnt got the stock of salt they want yet either to cover them over the winter, and constant cold weather over the next week could leave plenty of untreated roads and paths

It would be a major f-up though. Carroll/Drog/cole not playing for me would be disastrous.

Stupid Q - which areas(games) in UK are more prone to snow interruptions?

Would love some snow-related chaos again; last year was great fun - except for Dempsey-gate when Fratton Park's match was called off last minute after I transferred him in >:(

The moral of the story is:

Don't transfer in players due to play on pitches without under-soil heating in snowy conditions!

Ruined the season for me. The odd game is fine but most of the programme like last year was a real pain and I didn't have Tevez as I thought the game would be called off. Everyone else captained him and got about 34 points I think.

Former FPL leader Paul Carey really needs to change his name from "1st again." Perhaps.. "oh well, 14th is still really good" might be better.

What should be my next transfer move/s on this team then?

    Foster - Robinson
    Boswinga - Konchesky - Coleman - Bardsley - Williamson
    Fabregas - Van der Vaart - Nani - N'Zogbia - YayaT
    Drogba - Tevez - Carroll

    £0.9 in the bank.

    Thanks very much!

Good - hope so! Although, last weekend Boswinga was the only player he didn't name, saying it was between him and Ferreira, and the latter started! Difficult to say who will start this week but if Terry is fit I fear it may be Cole / Terry / Alex / Ivanovic. If not its Bos v Fer again.

Thanks for the feedback. FWIW I was thinking either:

      Boswinga > Kolarov

      or

      Williamson + Yaya > Kolarov + Cheap mid (e.g. Barton / Cleverley? Max 4.6)

The above depending on whether Boswinga looks like starting. Sound like a plan?

    fab nani cahill vdv nzogbia
    gyan elmander tevez

if it wasnt for gyans injury id bench nzog, but he may be on pens aswell

Yes because he cant drop Welbeck or Bent imo, so Gyan likely to be weaned back from injury with last 20 mins depending on the score.

I'm thinking Robinson>Gordon for a 4 point hit (or wait until next week?) I have Carson as my other keeper and as much as I'd prefer to get rid of him, the rotation works out ok for the rest of the season with Gordon/Carson. Should I wait though?
