Those playing Norwegian top flight game Eliteserien have had to learn some hard lessons over the season so far.

Faith in defending champions Rosenborg is looking increasingly misplaced and Molde too look to have lost their edge, in spite of a succession of team tweaks.

In addition, clean sheets are looking like an endangered species and surprisingly Brann are the key team to invest in, due to their stellar recent form.

With these lessons in mind here is our look ahead to the next set of fixtures.

Gameweek 9 matches

Sandefjord – Vålerenga
(Saturday, 2:30 P.M.)

Vålerenga finally look like they’ve found their prolific goalscorer in Sam Johnson. He looks a strong option up front, especially for this tie against a Sandefjord-team in crisis.

The home side look incapable of keeping a clean sheet so backing Johnson, and midfielder Ejuke,  looks a wise move this week.

At the moment there are no Sandefjord players really tickling our fancy, but it is worth noting that they have two playing 3.9 defenders. If their new coach gets things sorted, cut price offerings Lars Grorud and Andrew Eleftheriou, could prove to be perfect budget enablers.

IK Start – Brann
(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

Speaking of teams in crisis, Start are the only team to be even worse than Sandefjord at the moment, conceding the most goals in the league so far. Currently their defenders are more likely to earn cards rather than clean sheets.

They are visited by the aforementioned in-form  Brann. By now you’ll have found that almost every Brann pick is viable, with Skålevik, Koomson and the entire back line leading the charge.

FK Haugesund – Kristiansund BK
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Haugesund are a mid-table team that every now are capable of battling it out for top billing. This is one such season and they look set to keep hold of third spot and perhaps push on even higher given their current form.

We’ve already mentioned Akintola as the in form player of this team, with Gytkjær a strong striker option. Of late we have seen a resurgence in their defender prospects too, with the likes of Bråtveit, Skjerve and Stølås looking viable for selection.

Kristiansund have had a bumpy start to the season, but star player Gjertsen is back from injury and might offer a differential choice as he has shown he can still rack up points in the game. Bamba has also emerged as a differential striker pick from Kristiansund.

Molde – Bodø/Glimt
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

As a team, Molde look shaky these days, having exited the cup last week and conceded two goals against Sarpsborg last round.

There are those who are calling it a crisis for Molde as they gear up for European qualifiers this summer. This fixture serves up a big chance to turn it around, facing a slow-starting Bodø/Glimt team at home.

Linde is still the stable choice in a rotating Molde team, but young star striker Braut Holland’s stock is rising steadily after securing a starting role.

Bodø/Glimt ended last season with goalscoring records in the second tier, but have found the net least often in Eliteserien this time around. Not many options are tempting there, but we are keeping an eye on Saltnes as the steady play-every-minute choice should they find any form.

Ranheim – Odd
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

This clash is tough to call. Both teams can be considered in form and on the rise, and both look equally likely to score.

We’ll back Ranheim to get a result at home here, but picks from both teams are decent shouts. Tønne cements his spot in our squads having blanked last time out but impressing with a lovely nutmeg on Rosenborg’s Hedenstad.  Mads Reginiussen proved once again how central he is to all of Ranheim’s scoring and sails up as the top pick outside of Tønne in this squad.

For Odd we have seen Rashani find a bit of form in his wing role. Another worth a punt is Broberg, who is currently taking on a striker role due to injuries up front.  This arrangement will likely not last though. Old legend Espen Ruud, a fullback with set-piece duties and a mean shot, is also worth considering.

Strømsgodset – Sarpsborg 08
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Both these teams are outside challengers for top spots, but have struggled to find consistency so far in the season.

This game can go either way, and currently their players look a tad too expensive  just now. The exception is the consistent Marcus Pedersen, who has gotten off to a good start in the hunt for this season’s golden boot.

Both these teams are rife with midfield picks as well, but none looking very consistent as yet.

Tromsø – Lillestrøm
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Tromsø have looked bleak without their midfield maestro Gjermund Åsen in play. But he should return this weekend, and coupled with strong home form, makes them the favourites.

Elsewhere in the Tromsø selection list, you can find value in defence in Nilsen and Antonsen, in midfield with Åsen, Gamst Pedersen and out of position Berntsen, and in the striker ranks with Espejord.

Lillestrøm did find a win again in their last game, and Knudtzon has looked a stable choice in midfield, as he sports both winger and striker positions on the pitch.

Stabæk – Rosenborg
(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

The final match of the Gameweek sees Stabæk play hosts to stumbling league favorites Rosenborg.

Stabæk have yet to keep a single clean sheet this season, opening up some hope of returns from Rosenborg attacking options. With their high cost and sparse returns, you’d likely want to look further back on the pitch, with Hedenstad and Reginiussen still looking like strong options.

At Stabæk, Ohi has been the only real choice. But a start is not guaranteed on Sunday, after he missed last Gameweek and his side’s midweek cup tie. Brynhildsen has been one of the breakthrough players of the season so far, and is an excellent value pick at 4.9.

GW4 and GW6. There could be more towards the end of the season, but not very likely.

I'm setting up a new league starting from GW10 (midweek fixtures next week), so you could have a good advantage my saving your chips for that. Just a heads up!

            Ok thanks.
I'm playing this so I can try a different tactic to the regular fpl. Il try and spread the chips out a bit. I've got 2 brann defenders for this week and I'm going to play all 5 defs with the chip and see how it goes. I'm going to try and be a bit more patient and hope the fact I know nothing about the teams or players makes me play more methodical.

              Solid yeah.

Wormgoor is necessary. Going Teniste? Rolantsson?

I'd also say that you need to go Tønne. Not sure how much research you've done

You could consider Nilsen over Antonsen from Tromsø, more attacking threat IMO. Nilsen from Haugesund could be an alternative over Skjerve as he's also OOP. Hovland from Rosenborg is a cheap way into the (second) best defense in the league

Hey guys, chasing a 14 point lead. Leader has Salah but neither Kane nor Sterling and is unlikely to bring in either based on his current squad and money ITB.

Given that I have Son, Willian & GroB (most of whom won't return)

    A - Son & Vardy > Zaha & Kane (c) for -4 hit
B - GroB > Zaha (and captain Sterling) as my FT
    C - Willian & Jesus > Zaha & Kane (c) for -4 hit
    Other?

    DDG
    Alonso - Lowton - Naughton - Long
    Eriksen - Son - Sterling - Willian
    Jesus - Vardy

    Ryan - GroB - Morgan - Barnes

(P)edersen this week. Finally got rid of the worst punt in my fantasy career, Eleftheriou. Got him for 4.5 ahead of my PTB chip in gw4, done nothing but lose value since. Lost 0.6 in a couple of weeks as I’ve had more pressing issues. Ulvestad from KBK his replacement. Good luck everyone 🙂

        I did Remmer → Hovland.

Picking a captain is complicated. I have two choices, Pedersen or Skålevik. Start has conceded 3 goals per game at home and S08 has conceded 2 goals per game away so that points to Skålevik. But. At one game where Start conceded 6 goals one of their players was red carded at 6th minute. If you estimate (guess tbh) that Start might have conceded let's say 2 goals at that game they are pretty even in terms of conceded goals. So we are back at square number one.

Brann has scored 1,5 goals per game away and Strömgodset has scored 1,5 goals per game at home. So they are pretty even and we are at square number one. Brann has played away against Sandefjord, Ranheim, S08 and Strömgodset. Strömgodset has played at home against Rosenborg, Odd, Brann and Stabaek. It seems that Strömgodset's fixtures have been tougher and still they had more goal attempts at those games than Brann, total numbers according to Flashscore are 37 vs. 29. That points to Pedersen so Pedersen (C) it is.

(Disclaimer: my gut says Pedersen so I wanted to find a rational sounding reason to captain him and it looks like I found one! 🙂 )

        1. MTPockets
            7 years, 6 months ago

That's great. I went through exactly the same process (and for Johnson) except estimated Start losing by 3 so average of 2.25 conceded at home vs 2 for Sarpsborg.

Also picked Pedersen, mostly on basis that of the 6G at home he scored 5 of them.

Apart from Linde and Bendtner, I'm quite happy with the team provided I can pick the best captain each week...

        1) Hold transfers till next week (likely to look at Linde and Bendtner options in one week)
        2) Johnson for Bendtner
        3) something else; Keen on getting either of the Reginiussen brothers, even though it'll leave me with a huge benching issue; or some sort of differential player.

With my funds available, I'm basically able to pick and choose

Yeah 1 or 2 - personal choice really. I sold Helland and already have Johnson.
4.6m in the bank so know what you mean about options.

Wrong article - I wouldn't do that for -8 but last game of the season so why not if you fancy it, who knows what will happen.

Bendtner and Jensen saying at Rosenborg until after the Brann game in GW12 (if they are called up), the Denmark coach has given them permission to stay beyond 20th May.

The Denmark coach is also a former Rosenborg manager (and he's Norwegian)

                      Benching problem Vol. 9:

                      Barli

                      Åsen-Reginiussen-Akintola-Knudtzon

                      Falch-Koomson-Antonsen-Haakenstad

                      Falch/Barli
want to play Antonsen but instead of who ?

Can’t decide whether to bench/play Tønne or Rashani.

                      Linde
                      Tønne Worm Gilli Hedenstad
                      Akintola Åsen EUA
                      Pedersen Skålevik Johnson

                      Barli - Rashani Aursnes Granli

Anyone in that team you would drop for both to play? On Tønne only because at home.

Probably cap on Skålevik if not a Brann def.

I quite like my no-rbk-attacker team, but it is risky. Decided to sell Helland and reassess if/when they start scoring a lot more. Not sure if I'd feel the same about Søderlund - stb defence not great and only really plaing from gw4, but 11.5m still not great value to date.

There's a lot of comments about benching Rosenborg defenders for Tonne/Nilsen etc. I've no problem with that as such, but they've kept 4 clean sheets in their last 5...

i'm with Hedenstad benched too, and i'm not ok with it.
maybe will change Joakim Nilsen or Aursnes to play him

I'm currently playing Hedenstad and benching Lasse Nilsen. I'd like to play them both, but there are only 11 spots! Unless I bench Nguen...

Personally it's just because Stabæk have scored in all their home games, and I have Hovland. Would be a harder choice if a defender with more attacking/set piece potential.

(Hovland will obviously now score and not concede)
