Yusuf Sheikh has claimed the Fantasy Premier League crown in the closest and most dramatic title race in memory.

The Tanzanian manager sealed his unlikely victory by six points from Fantasy Football Scout member Paul Gee, with long-time leader Bharat Dhody third.

Yusuf was ranked sixth before Sunday, some 33 points behind Bharat at the top.

As such, we had not included him in our earlier round-up of the top five contenders.

And when Marcos Alonso, Dele Alli and Gabriel Jesus were unexpectedly benched, he must have all but written off his chances of challenging for the crown.

But Yusuf’s final day performance was nothing short of remarkable from start to finish.

His final tally of 93 points was some 23 ahead of Paul in second and, incredibly, surpassed Bharat’s Gameweek total by 41.

A Triple Captain chip undoubtedly played a key role in his late surge as he was the only manager in the top ten to still have a chip remaining.

However, Yusuf’s decision to use this on Mohamed Salah had, initially, looked unwise, given that six other managers in the top ten also captained the Egyptian.

They included both Bharat and Paul.

So while Salah helped Yusuf to a 11-point advantage over that pair, the midfielder was by no means the key player in Sunday’s matches.

It was his differentials who really delivered.

That started with Marcus Rashford, who struck an early goal to hand Yusuf an initial boost. No other manager in the top ten owned the Man United striker.

Salah’s goal was then followed by an assist to help Yusuf gain a further edge via his Triple Captain. However, it was surely Lukasz Fabianski’s penalty save at the Liberty Stadium, just a minute later, that catapulted him into contention.

At that point Paul Gee had established a lead, thanks to clean sheets from Burnley pair Matt Lowton and James Tarkowski.

A goal from Wilfried Zaha – a Gameweek 38 signing for Aaron Ramsey – then re-ignited Yusuf’s charge, before the Clarets conceded at Turf Moor to topple Paul from the summit.

With Fabianski, Rashford and Zaha furthering their role as differentials with bonus points, Yusuf also benefited from DeAndre Yedlin’s clean sheet from his bench as both Alonso and Ben Davies failed to be given minutes.

That ensured victory over Paul by just eight points once the bonus points were confirmed.

With 73 points on the day, the runner-up can count himself unfortunate to miss out when Burnley’s clean sheet points were cruelly lost in the closing stages.

Paul’s decision to sell Alli for Salah proved a canny move, but it was ultimately not enough to fire him to the title, having started Sunday 20 points off the pace.

Meanwhile Bharat – who had led the way since Gameweek 21 – suffered an early blow when the teamsheets were revealed.

He was missing seven players, either with injuries or through being benched.

His decision to sell Mahrez, and not Alli, for Salah might also haunt him. The Algerian’s 13 points would have seen him tied at the top, though total transfers (43 v 41) would have eventually settled it in Yusuf’s favour regardless.

And nobody can deny the new champion his glory.

To produce 93 points on the final day – some 23 more than any other rival in the top ten – is a remarkable achievement, and one deserving of winning the FPL crown.

Congratulations to Yusuf on his win, and to all the challengers who helped to produce such a memorable day.

We hope to have further reaction, including interviews with the top managers, over the next few days.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yusuf's win really highlights the big role the chips play in skewing the rankings. Really have no idea where you stand until the final day when all the chips are done.
Early season especially the rankings are so false with all the casuals using the chip rush strategy to forge ahead.

On the surface you would think playing the triple captain on the last week was a bit of a risky strategy. However there always One or Two teams that really need to win and they are often playing opponents who are already at the beach. We saw Kane last season clean up in those type of games. Maybe 38 triple capt will become trendy

If today is anything to go by its probably a good shout. And if it looks like teams have little or nothing to play for there should be dgws a few weeks earlier.

Dejected at United most likely. When he first arrived and played a bit as CF, he looked great. I think United fans still see him as the future, and their belief is only just now starting to wane.

Could be a great investment under new management imo. Unlikely to happen though

Agree RLC will likely be at Chelsea. Hopefully getting games.

Now would be the time to make a move for him though, before he proves himself at a top team. Unless he spends a year on the bench; then he could force a move.

Wow, A complete blip of a season.
Couldn't seem to make any headway from GW23 onwards after blowing TC on Kane.
Just shows you how tough it can be at times.

Yep and I think Mark (maybe) commented on the same.

                I'm the opposite, I was 148K in GW25, finished just under 15K.
Terrible start to season but not complaining,

Weird season really for me too. I couldn't move from about 250k from GW18-GW28. Then chips came in and I got green arrows in 8 of the last 10 GWs

Just looked at my watchlist and gone through my worst season performers. These players aren't going anywhere near my team next season ever again.

Cech Lossl (too many mistakes leading to goals)

Cedric (too many blanks early on) Kabasele (Watford bad away)
    Dunk (OG magnet)
Ogbonna (cost me 0.2 and blanked for weeks on end)
Daniels (Bou can't defend and overrated attackwise)

Tadic (troll) Haz (troll) Mooy (poor mans Gross) Richarlison (troll) Pogba (troll)

Austin (no pace) Wilson (2pt specialist) Benteke (donkey)

Honourable mentions; Alonso (rotation risk with Emerson fit now) Willian (troll), Kane (no assists to offset blanks), Peryra (injury prone), Niasse (not enough starts), Mounie (troll), Quarner (1pt merchant) Lingard (dabber)

Why do people just mention his goals when the game includes assists and bonus points too? 217 points for his price isn't good enough.

He got 224 last season and was priced 12.5m.

Most he will go down to is 12m.

                7 years, 6 months ago

What price are you expecting then?

I can't see them going lower than 12m, He is still the best forward in the game and needs to be priced as such.

                1. Cok3y5murf

                  7 years, 6 months ago

11.5m would be appropriate, but as you said, I think they won't drop it below 12.

In terms of value and consistency, Aguero has been much better with a PPM of 6.8 to Kane's 5.9. Unfortunately he was prone to rotation and injuries. I think the same price for both would be fair.

                    7 years, 6 months ago

Aguero played 63% of his minutes, for 78% of his points.

Just achieved my best ever rank, just outside top 2K. I’m putting it down to my policy this season of not jinxing my players by talking them up on here. As a result I haven’t been as active in the chats, but I have still read and digested all the articles and advice. Being a member has definitely boosted my rank and I would advise anyone who isn’t, to become one. We all devote quite a bit of our times to FPL, so what’s a few quid to enhance your happiness? The bread knife and jam eaters will only spend it if you don’t!
