The lack of Premier League football last weekend may have forced many into making their transfers early, but for anyone still clinging onto a free transfer for this Gameweek and mulling over a last minute swap, we’re about to muddy the waters even further by throwing a few curveballs at you. If you’re after a logical, carefully planned choice then look no further than the Scout Picks. The “Differentials†on the other hand are the balls out, wildcard picks that could prove to be a stroke of genius or a moment of insanity. They say it’s a fine line between the two, but hindsight is a wonderful thing…..

Gary Gardner

He may still be waiting for his first Premier League goal, but Gary Gardner has shown more than enough promise in his early career to merit his inclusion in the Differential picks this week. Arguably the most coveted of Villa’s Academy starlets, Gardner captained the Villa youth team during the 09/10 season, firing in 14 goals from central midfield in the first five months of the season before a serious knee injury ruled him out for the next year. After returning from injury in January 2010, Gardner continued where he left off, picking up another five goals for the reserves including two goals and two assists in a 10-1 thrashing of Arsenal, and this season Gardner has racked up a total of 13 goals for England U21’s, the Villa youth team and the reserves.

Moving up to the Premier League is obviously a big step but Gardner has more than held his own in his first couple of games for the senior team, and looks like an excellent prospect. As well as a great scoring record, Gardner is known as a bit of a free kick specialist, and also offers the future potential of penalties if he can establish himself fully into the first team. We can’t expect Mcleish to grant us that little bonus just yet, but seeing as Villa take on two of the leagues leakiest defences in Wigan and Blackburn next, an early punt could still pay dividends and his budget price of just 4.5 and low ownership of 0.1% could make him a great differential.

Papiss Cisse

Alan Pardew looks set to hand a first home start to Papiss Cisse this weekend, as Newcastle host Wolves. Both teams suffered five goal thrashings last time out, but the return of Yohan Cabaye, Ryan Taylor and Cheick Tiote means Pardew is able to field his strongest side, and with all due respect to Wolves, Newcastle should find it a lot easier going this weekend.

After such an impressive start to the season, overlooking Demba Ba and opting for his Senegalese strike partner would be a very bold choice. That said, it is only the presence of Ba that has prevented Cisse from being a lot more popular; Cisse actually has a better scoring record at international level and as the second top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, he looks like a very strong pick in his own right. With two home games up next, goals will surely fall to one or both strikers; priced at just 7.0 and with an ownership of just 1.2% compared to Ba’s 25.4%, Papiss Cisse would prove to be a huge differential should the goals go his way.

Mario Balotelli

The unpredictable nature of Mario Balotelli may put off the vast majority of Fantasy managers, but there is no denying the Italian’s explosive potential, and a home tie against Blackburn could pay huge dividends to anyone brave enough to take a punt. Sergio Aguero is the safe option of course, but over a third of all managers in the FPL game now own the Argentinian and if he were to have an off day, or (say it quietly) get rested, then the 1.3% of managers with Balotelli would be laughing all the way to the bank.

After sitting out the last three league fixtures through suspension, we’re putting our money on Balotelli making the starting lineup this week, but even if he is restricted to a late cameo, he’s proven more than capable of picking up points after coming off the bench; three of his nine league goals have come from appearances of 30 minutes or less. Priced at just 8.0, it’s got to be worth a pop hasn’t it?

I decided to keep Dzeko instead of getting Aguero, went with Mata instead as my "upgrade".

Also means Santon is in the squad and starting and J Evans on the bench.

Everyone else play and captain Aguero and play J Evans tomorrow 😀

You think Norwich will score on Sunday? I know they do usually score but looking more closely at their results i see that they've only have 3 of the top 5 sides at Carrow Road. They didn't score against Chelsea or Spurs and only managed one against Arsenal (who were up until recently the leakiest defence away from home)

Two free transfers, but I have no clue about how to use one of them.

Dempsey->Mata? Dempsey hasn´t stopped scoring points, has he?
    Assou-Ekotto -> Shawcross?
    Kelly->

    Team ATM:
    Krul (Vorm)
    Kompany/Evans/Simpson (Assou-Ekotto/Kelly)
    Bale/Silva/Sessesgnon/Dempsey (McClean)
    Aguro(c)/Ba(vc)/RVP

thanks to Steady and Vets for the advice but still can't decide

ok lads help me out as I need to do any transfer NOW as I will be unable to get on tomorrow before deadline.

    Team this week

    Mignolet (Schwarzer)

    Taiwo, Richards, Santon (Evans, Caulker)

    Bale, Silva, Dempsey, McLean Siggy

    RvP, Aguero (Gerbil)

My dilemma is what do to about Gerbil

    a) Do nothing, keep the transfer, do Gerbil âž¡ Yak next week then Aguero âž¡ Rooney and Taiwo âž¡ Skrtel in GW28

    b) Do Gerbil âž¡ Papiss this week, nothing next and then the same GW28 transfers

    c) Do Gerbil âž¡ Ba and then nothing followed by the Rooney transfer and either Richards âž¡ Skrtel or Siggy âž¡ Surman in GW28

    d) Keep Gerbil and ride out his suspension, then do an upgrade of Siggy or Schwarzer next week and the original 2 GW28 transfers

Sorry it’s so long winded but help but would be appreciated.

I'm not completely sold on Evans and how long he'll stay nailed on, and Stoke have a good chance of a cleanie, as good as united I'd say.

I'd wait on it and plan it for next week or the week after

Would it change your decision if I said I had Sorensen also. Sort of a way to increase my chances of at least one clean sheet.

Very hard to understand but someone posted this on the City forum

"Doug back on his feet today here's his report:

Back at Carrington in the rain and a very full house in the dug out.Alongside me and Neil were a group of prizewinners from the Arab Emirates followed everywhere by a camara watching their every move plus a few Italians who were clearly good friends of Roberto. At least one of them played with him.

20 players on show in the new training gear including Carlos which would have pleased the photographers who had positioned themselves in the trees to get pictures as they came out of the boot room! They really looked desperate and a few moved around to get what they could from the full training session. One of them with extra long ladders to get the best view.As they started Kolarov passed over an extra pair of boots which we put in the dug out. They are so light it's ridiculous!

Mario came out smiling, took one of the poles out of the ground (no jokes please) and threatened a full javelin throw,Carlos changed his boot( probably a photo op for many) and they all went off for a jog and keep ball circle work 200+ yards away.Even from that distance there was plenty of noise ,roars of laughter as they enjoyed what they were doing.

Then into that passing game with poles to score through as long as everyone in the team was in the attacking half.Nigel claimed a goal as he shot wide from just in front of us.Cheeky sod he is as his big smile gave away! Carlos did score one, quickly followed by Vinnie from some good work from AJ then Edin finished it off.More fitness exercises followed where they were split into Wednesday's team and the rest before that team went inside. They didnt need a "full" game at the end of today's session.A team from the EDS came over to fill in the numbers.Whilst this was being sorted Mario had a little session in goal against Joe.Sadly nothing was on target that I saw.

Benali ,Tse,Scapuzzi ,Filipo Mancini ,Suarez ,Roman,Bunn, MJ ,Wabara all involved. An early goal from Bunn was disallowed for off side,Edin almost scored with a backheel but a combination of Zaba and Costel saved, then Costel saved again from Edin. The 1st goal came from Roman and was quickly followed by one from Scapuzzi who just knocked in a loose ball.

Milner sent over a great cross, which even got praise from the boss, and Roman hit the post from it.Great praise though for Stu Taylor who got a touch on it.Two quick goals then from Edin equalled the scoring. The 1st a header from a Mancini cross and then a sublime through ball( like Yaya's on wednesday)from Pizarro for Edin to run onto.Kidd announced it was golden goal time.Mario got annoyed when he was penalised for 3 touches in the defensive half ( shame as it was great tracking back),Kolarov went into a crunching tackle ( not his first) before that man Carlos scored the winner.

That was the end, as most went in and Mario launched a ball into orbit .3 stayed for some shooting practice.CT,JM and AJ.I would have to say CT was very good as was AJ and on this occasion JM coming 3rd which is unusual.I forgot Pizarro also stayed out but he was just assisting with the feeds for the shooting practice.

In answer to the questions Carlos was just one of 20 out there training today. He wasn't special but did a good session.Looked reasonably fit to me but might have been carrying a pound."

Sounds like Dzeko looked sharp, just a warning to anyone thinking of getting Balotelli. No clues on Richards or Zabaleta ðŸ™

I'm quite tempted by Richards to Kompany, despite the fact I have other transfers that would also need doing in the near future (Goalkeeper(s), Aguero to Rooney, Liverpool/spurs defenders back in...)

Or am I planning too much and should do it instead of worrying whether Richards will start as its been bugging me 😉

Load of bollocks mate. It didn't make much difference to me at time as I only had kelly coming in for 2 pointer but still. I'd love to get kompany but will prob go lescott instead due to funds. People on here say lescott's a rotation risk as well, but personally I think he's almost as nailed on as kompany and prob more of a goal threat.

If it helps I do think r.taylor will start tomorrow and could do well, so short term it's a sound move. I just think if it's not going well over next few games taylor will be the easiest to drop or sub early. Plus you'd be worried before every team sheet. It kind of goes back to that risk vs reward article I guess. He his a risk but it could be well rewarded. I opted out as I need the extra funds to get rooney in 2 gws as was gonna lose valencia but now he's gonna be fit. In answer to your question though cahill for next 2 then evans all the way so just get evans if you won't have transfers to spare.

I have 2 freebies and will likely wildcard in 4-5 weeks, so not too short on transfers. Raylor's fixtures are so enticing IF he starts. I think I might take a gamble on him...

Sturridge > Ba, to go with Aguero an RVP?

Or should I save my transfer?

Keep Sturridgeas he's a bit of a differential to Ba and has a decent fixture.

That is what I am thinking but nervous about being without Newcastle attack.

Huth to Raylor is a better transfer. But if you've already got a Newcastle def and a decent back 3 with Huth benched, then 2 frees and Huth for his fixture next week might be better. Especially if you don't have a wildcard left.

    Hi guys !
I am really tempted to RVP for Rooney…
What do you think about this move ? Is it crazy ? Should i save my FT ?
    Thanks

I have Sorensen and Bogdan, 1FT, an outfield I'm happy with and 0.4 in the bank.

If both the above remain in their sides I'm sorted for the next four weeks, then I can wildcard.

On the other hand I face not having a keeper, so...

Is it worth holding tight, hoping they play and saving transfers for when I might need them, or getting in a replacement? And who? Al Habsi? Mignolet? Schwarzer?

need some help on both my team, listed below, and some advice on when to use my wildcard
2 ft 0.9 to spend want to use at least one this week no point wasting it
    mignolet krul
    kelly simpson caulker taiwo kompany
    bale valencia silva maclean dempsey
    aguero ba rvp

players i am thinking of getting out to use one or 2 of my frees, maybe a wildcard punt depending on when i wc: mignolet, injured valencia, rvp to rooney? or simpson to taylor not sure which one from newcastle after simpson rises tonight?

    Contemplating selling RVP for Sergio
Have a WC to get him back in a few weeks but can't justify selling Rooney on current form.
    Thoughts?

How likely is it that Aguero will get rested this GW or have his game time materially cut?

Concerned that he'll have less time on the pitch and for that reason, maybe its better captaining Ba....
