The transfer window in between the round of 16 ending and the quarter-finals commencing looked likely to pose the most problems to Fantasy managers and the early exits of Argentina, Portugal and Spain have only added to our woes.

Those with wildcards still to burn are in an enviable position, but the rest of those playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game will have to make do with three permitted transfers if they are to avoid points hits.

Fantasy bosses competing in the Fantasy iTeam game will also have to wheel and deal shrewdly with their three allotted transfers, although an additional fourth transfer can, of course, be bought with credits.

With premium forwards Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer an option, along with the likes of Isco, Diego Costa and David Silva, Fantasy managers may suddenly have a sizeable transfer fund at their disposal.

But where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

Do 3rd place play offs count in fantasy? If it does then what is the point of having 5 transfers between semis and the final? as all 4 teams play again

3rd place will probably be played by B teams. Like, probably Butland and TAA get a run if England dont make the final. Or Mignolet and Boyata.

    My team, wc played:

    Courtois - Armani (OUT)
Meunier - Lovren - Granqvist - Carvajal (OUT) - Akanji (OUT)
Coutinho - Rakitic - Bentancur - Isco (OUT) - Quintero (OUT)
Lukaku - Mbappe - Ronaldo (OUT)

What should I change? I’m thinking of:

    Ronaldo -> Kane
    Isco -> Modric
    Carvajal -> Trippier/Stones

Ronaldo + Carvajal > Kane + Trippier for sure.

The last one you might want to think about options. You have Rakitic already, so maybe Pogba, Lingard or Willian.

Me too and I am not sure. Bringing Pavard in because of his value but the winner is unpredictable so I think I’ll go Mandcukic or Perisic instead of Griez/Mbappe.

Uruguay are very organised and will defend well. Tough game for france and I can see Uruguay winning it 1-0.

Yep. Teams will be announced one hour before deadline for that match.

Sweden have scored in all 4 matches and are a treat from set-pieces which should be a concern for an England side that conceded in that fashion last night. In honesty, I think all 8 teams to score in the QF's would be a great bet to go for. Can't see many, if any teams keeping clean sheets. Croatia potentially the best option.

Given most of us were probably burnt by Spain getting knocked out are people hedging their bets and covering most teams or going all in on the supposed favourites (i.e. Eng, Cro, Bra, Fra)?

      2 x England
      3 x Brazil
      2 x Croatia
      1 x France
      2 x Belgium
      2 x Sweden
      1 x Russian

If it was possible to have the full England team, I would.

I know, that comment was somewhat in jest. There are clearly better fantasy options. I have Kane and Trippier. I would probably bring in Lingard, Maguire, and Pickford if I had my WC still.

    WC, BB played, any suggestions?

    Alisson, 4.0 fodder*
Granqvist, Carvajal*, Pavard, Strinic, T. Silva
    Isco*, Modric, Claesson, Quintero*, Coutinho
    Griezmann, Kane, Kaku

Hazard over kaku imo and Neymar for Griezmann. Modric a waste even in that price bracket get an England defender probably Maguire.

    A) Maguire + Willian
    B) Pavard + Rakitic

Leaning towards A but really fancy Rakitic and Pavard could be up for a cleanse with Cavani out

I really disagree there. I think Croatia is one of the safest progression options and France over Uruguay without Cavani also quite likely.

Belgium - Brazil is a matchup worthy of the finals. Could go either way and England while favored are also on much less rest than Sweden after being pushed to extra time.

barrios should have gone...but henderson should be getting pelters for his reaction, in the same way neymar has.

    both embarrassing.

I have been to Glasgow, it was very pleasant, I didn't tell anyone I was english though so that's probably how I made it out alive.

In all seriousness though Barrios has come up quickly into his jaw, if you're not expecting that, it's going to hurt, and Henderson just went to ground, he wasn't rolling around, or screaming like Neymar was. I think he did absolutely the right thing, what was he supposed to do, square up to the guy and both get booked?

look at how he went down, seriously..hes holding his face, not jaw. its a delayed reaction and hes on the deck for about 5 mins. that was a clip to the chin at best. he tried to get him sent off. and fair enough. thats the name of the game nowadays. but its still cringey to watch. we give neymar stick for it every 5 mins but when someone like jordan does it...nothing.

Maybe I'm biased as an England fan, but Colombia in the first half especially were playing a very dirty game, and the referee wasn't stopping them/controlling the game at all.

I don't think Henderson would be immune to criticism just because he's english, Beckham, and Rooney certainly weren't in the past.

As you said in your original post, he should have been sent off for the action, regardless of how severe you feel it was.

        Stupid statement.

1 it wasn't powerful enough to knock a grown man down
2 it was completely the wrong area. If it had come up in uppercut fashion you may have a case. It was merely a love tap

Welcome to the modern game I suppose. As I've commented above.

I think Henderson has done exactly the right thing, our opponents have done it to us for years, England finally getting smart as to how to win a game of football.

fine but don't ever complain or say other teams are dirty or that neymar is acting and that england will never stoop to that level when you see that from henderson(who also flicked his head back at one point) or blatant diving (maguire).

In all honesty I don't like it when any player does it (cheats, dives, etc) but that game last night the referee had no control over.
In my opinion, and as I say I may be a little biased, Henderson has just gone to ground to make the referee aware that something has happened to him, which it did, it wasn't a dive, as you say yourself it should have been a red card.

What we see from Neymar, and Pepe is another example when he got a pat on the back and went to ground, look more embarrassing because of the screaming, and multiple rolls on the floor, and I genuinely didn't see anything that bad from the England players last night.

Quick question: are people actually making transfers now?

Surely wait for pressers and teamsheets for Fra-Uru?!

    1. HamezMace
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 5 months ago

Yes, I have made my transfers because I have players who are eliminated, and I'm not looking to bring anyone in from the France/Uruguay game.

If anyone has the luxury of having spare transfers even after taking their eliminated, or suspended players out then the only reason to hold off would be if you are waiting on confirmation of France/Uruguay players.

Then he'll still play as much football this tournament as Ronaldo.

...and I'll consider myself unlucky, and just have to enjoy England winning the world cup instead of a brand new Kia,

    Pickford - Subasic
    Stones - Pavard - Lovren - Hernandez - Miranda
    Paulinho - Rakitic - Zobnin - Lingard - Modric
    Mbappe - Kane - Neymar
