Best Crystal Palace players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Crystal Palace look set to be a source of effective budget options in the early part of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Eagles favourable fixtures in the first nine Gameweeks, combined with some impressive underlying numbers towards the end of last season, mean there are viable options to consider in defence, midfield and attack.

Under Roy Hodgson, Palace made improvements in more than 20 key areas last time out compared to 2016/17, and that is expected to continue into the new campaign.

That data is available to Fantasy Football Scout members to look at in the Members’ Area, and they can also read our in-depth analysis of it in the article below.

Stick with Courtois' 3 or swap to Subasic?

    Will check Subasic starts obviously

I have same dilemma but with Pickford. I would say no to Sub as I think England will edge tonight. Not sure on Pick though. thoughts?

      What are you on about?

He played Delph all season. Mendy is a much better player, it will be a straight swap.

Mendy is hardly a 'test'. He was sensational until his season-ending injury.

I think he values Mendy highly, he mentioned how without him last season he lacked width on the left so had to use Sane really wide and cutting in.

I just replied on that post but will ask here too...

What was the formation? I seem to recall it was three at the back when Mendy played along with Jesus and Aguero?

I might be wrong but I thought Mendy along with Walker on the other side are very much attacking wingbacks for Pep. This might be why Mendy's not being used in the World Cup as he doesn't suit a back 4.

I'm looking at him to be the FPL Alonso of 2 years ago.

I’ve just done a bit of research, was mostly a 3-1-4-2 but also a 4-1-4-1.

In the 4-1-4-1, Mendy still played lb but Jesus and Kun were mostly rotated rather than paired. Sane played lwb in one game and as sub in another.

I’m not sure we can learn too much from that unfortunately, a lot happened since then

The 4-1-4-1 could actually be interpreted as a 4-3-3, it’s difficult to pin it with such interchanging of positions

Mendy's job is to be Sane from last year, Sane scored 179 points as a mid! Mendy to break 250? 😆

Could I please get some feedback on my first draft? Tried to focus on triple Liverpool and City (with all players as nailed as they could be).

    Ederson
    Robertson - Bailly - Williams - Tomkins
    Salah - D.Silva - Mkhitaryan
    Aguero - Firmino - Tosun

    Boruc/playing 4.0 - Bednarek/playing 4.0 - Deulofeu - Masuaku/playing 4.5 mid.

      Excellent.

A very minor issue is to monitor Everton's DC positions. One of the 3 4.5m players will be the regular starter - if not Williams, Jags or Holgate.

Thanks very much and appreciate the heads up. I'm still largely undecided on the 4.5 defenders, who do you reckon the best picks are there? I would Cedric but ideally don't want to double up on Southampton defence

You've got the best options - Tomkins and a Toffee 4.5
I'm willing to punt on a Wolf - Doherty or Boly.

    2 WC dilemmas. Thoughts?

PIckford in for Courtois (3) ?

Move (C) from Griezmann (5) to Kane ??

    1. QuintonFortune25
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 8 months ago

I'd bring Pickford in and the captain thing is a tough won. Given that everyone will be captaining Kane I would switch just in case he bags a brace. It's not exactly a huge loss if Kane only gets 2 also, it would be just a 3 point loss:

      Greizmann captain =10 + 2 = 12
      Kane captain = 5 + 4 = 9

Therefore i think its worth risking 3 points for a potentially higher score.

What are we thinking then tonight? If we can stop Modric and Rakitic we've got a good chance. I can see Croatia sneaking this though

    1. KingOllie
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 8 months ago

i think we can do it, Croatia played a lot of minutes and our boys gonna be very fired up.

Unless we go 1 behind earlyish i expect us to win.

    2. QuintonFortune25
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 8 months ago

Yeah if Croatia play both Modric and Rakitic as CDMs Alli and Lingard can hopefully press right on them and prevent them from controlling the game. Then as we saw against Russia they are not brilliant at defending set pieces so hopefully can get a goal from a set piece again.

    3. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years
      5 years, 8 months ago

I think England can do it. We've got to run a tired Croatia into the ground with a high tempo. I'm not impressed with their defence - I think Kane, Maguire and Stones can better Lovren and Vida at set pieces. The key is keeping their midfield quite - Hendo will need help so I'd drop Alli for Dier.

      1. Athletic Bilbo

I think we might need Dier in there too, or maybe Delph who is a bit more mobile to deal with Luka

Ive run with only one GK in the knockout stages so far: Alisson (6, 1) and Lloris (7). Given we have 5 transfers and no-one going home this round, is it worth buying another GK for the 3rd place playoff or just focus on new outfield players? I suspect Belgium will rotate fairly heavily and I have KDB, Hazard, Kompany, Fellaini at high risk.. if England get dumped I'll have similar issues there. Maximum captain chip active so need goodies on the field...

Once team sheets come out you can decide. Basically get as many players as you can with your transfers available.

Players like Haz/De Bruyne might come on, so unless you need the cash, I’d keep them and see if they perform off the bench.

    Fabianski (4.0)
    Robertson, Mendy, Coleman, Douglas, Tomkins

      Looks great, tbh.

I personally don't have faith in Saints to score (or keep clean sheets) but that's me.
I'm also wary of Fab's opening fixtures - could be loads of save points, but I'd rather a chance of clean sheets.

      Thanks all - much appreciated.

Yes - Mendy is a known risk, but I thought I would get him in early and let my bench compensate for him if he does miss a few matches. Saves a valuable transfer down the line.

Fabianski is a bit of a risk, but I'm hoping his save points and a new defensive manager might be able to help. Besides, he tends to get his bigger scores against the bigger sides....

Austin is a bit of a placeholder pick but could do OK. If Mitrovic comes in at 6.0, I would certainly consider him instead....

    Morning. Any thoughts on this?

    Schmiechel (Speroni)

    Firmino, Aguero, Tosun

    1. KD1999
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 8 months ago

Schmeichel no, fixtures dodgy and he's 5.0m, Pickford or Pope would be better for that price, as would a handful of the 4.5 keepers.

Lovren will not be playing due to his involvement with Croatia at the world cup, Trent Alexander Arnold is the same price (5.0m) and would be far more likey to start and produce attacking returns as well as clean sheets.

Mahrez is a good option for maybe 1/2 Gameweeks if that's all you're hoping for. Will almost certainly become a bit part player after the world cup boys are back, either pay an extra 0.5m for Sane or save yourself 0.5m and get David Silva. Both of them are better placed to start more matches.

Deuleufeu can be hit and miss as we have seen before. Don't be surprised when he bangs out 2 points game in game out.

Tosun very good shout he will hit the ground running with the early fixtures

Thoughts on Alexis Sanchez (£10.5m)?? Perhaps a bit expensive but would be a fantastic option for Gameweek 1/2/3.

    1. He would be a differential, he currently has little to no ownership compared to others of a similar price.
    2. He usually plays on the left but he may play a more advanced role in the absence of Lukaku and possibly Rashford aftertheir World Cup exploits.
    3. He would probably be given penalties and other set pieces.
    4. His fixtures would be strong.
    5. He is a proven asset in FPL capable of goals and assists.
