Introduction to the article type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Gregor has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Gregor’s RMT

Gunn/McCarthy, Fabianski
VVD, Bailly, Mendy, Cook, Wan-Bissaka
Salah, Silva, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Ward
Firmino, Zaha, Mitrovic.

Goalkeepers
Two great value looking goalkeepers for £9m with perfect home and away rotation and good home fixtures to start the season. If there’s doubt over the Southampton number one though I may get Foster and bring Cedric in as my £4.5m defender.

Defenders
I’ve gone with van Dijk over Robertson due to slight concern around Robertson missing the odd game around Champions League ties, if Liverpool get a tough group.

Bailly seems assured to start the season and no reason to think he won’t then keep his place. £5.5m to cover United’s defence looks too good to miss.

Mendy looks underpriced due to previous injury problems, cheaper than Walker and should be good for assists.

What I like about Cook is that he’s very bench-able as you don’t expect much from a Bournemouth defender, but he has the potential to produce when called upon and also offers perfect home and away rotation with Wan-Bissaka, who looks a no brainer for bench fodder at £4m – nice fixtures too.

Midfielders
Salah, the obvious GW1 captain, and I (hope) expect Liverpool to make a strong start before the fixtures stiffen.

Mahrez is nice and rested and Silva looks a great price for a guy seemingly nailed on before the family problems, and City’s fixtures from GW’s 2-7 make a City triple up seem entirely sensible.

Mkhitaryan could be an absolute steal at £7m. Tough opening fixtures but just can’t ignore a player of this quality at that price though.

Cardiff’s Danny Ward as £4.5m bench fodder, subject to change; he has a goal threat which is unusual at this price point, and easy to bench as you would expect Cardiff to struggle.

Forwards
Bobby Firmino up top to further tap into the Liverpool attack, with strong early fixtures and a nice price. I’d be surprised if he’s not fit to start GW1.

Zaha, the Palace talisman with pre-season form and strong early fixtures. I do worry he might move though so also got my eye on Tosun for this slot.

Mitrovic just edges out Austin for my third striker slot for now due to surety of starts, funded by trading Sane for Mahrez. Have always liked Mitrovic and should continue to thrive at Fulham now he’s the main man.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

Getting pretty set on this now...

    Gunn / Fabianski

    Robertson, Mendy, Cook, Holebas, Wan-Bissaka

    Salah, Eriksen, Mahrez, Cairney, Ward

    Arnie, Zaha, Aguero

    Appreciate any feedback

Defence is light, I'd maybe get rid of Zaha and Eriksen to Kamara and 6.5, the upgrade keeper and defence

I think if I was getting a Watford defender I’d go with Kabasele, decent goal return from the number of games he’s played whereas Holebas gets booked a lot.

    RMT

    Ederson - Fabianski
    Bailly - Bellerin - Lovren - Jonny - AWB
    Salah - Eriksen - Richarlison - Jota - Neves
    Aubameyang - Arnautovic - Zaha

Lovren might not start GW1, and you're severely lacking City attack. Eriksen to Mahrez , then upgrade lovren and Jota maybe. Laca over Auba saves you more money too

Yeah it's a valid point. I had Sane originally but I think Eriksen will bring more assured starts. KDB is out of my price range. I had D. Silva last season and I was tempted to pick him again but I think Pep is going to rotate his team more this season so I want to see which team he settles on first.

Looking at where Laca is starting in preseason with Auba on the left wing it's definitely a good shout. Let me think about this lol.

Looks very nice with plenty of balance stemming from a certainly strong enough defense, note that Neves is not as attacking as his wonder goals suggest

That's a valid point. I could reduce Neves to a 4.5M and upgrade a defender. Who would be the best 4.5M? A lot of people have gone with Stephens.

Hi all, any suggestions/thoughts to my team below? I know it may be light on the bench fodder side, but may switch Hudson-Odoi for someone more reliably contributing (think Stephens from Brighton) and am regarding Wan-Bissaka as a rather nailed-on starter.

    Fabianski (Boruc)
Robertson - Jagielka - Mendy (Wan-Bissaka, Simpson (Bournemouth))
    Mkhitaryan - Richarlison - Salah - Mahrez (Hudson-Odoi)
    Aubameyang - Firmino - Wood

Thanks a lot for any input!

I had hudson odoi in my side but in the end i dont think its worth it, better to be late than early with bandwagons like him as you wouldn't want to risk having a 0 or 1 pointer on the bench and you would never get to starting him early doors

    2. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
      • 8 Years

CHO will not be starting, Sarri likes a nailed 11 and no matter how good he is he won't be playing a 17 year old week in week out. That means he'll just depreciate in value once all the disappointed Chelsea fans sell him. Pick a more boring 4.5 who will accrue the 2 pointers

    3. Witty Pun: Not good at this…

Also with a skeleton bench you need nailed players, and Mkhi/ Jags/ Mahrez aren't nailed

    Liking this new article

    Schmeichel/whoever Chelsea buy
    Mendy, Bellerin, TAA, Keane,
    Salah, Mahrez, Richarlison,
    Auba, Zaha, Arnie

    Speroni, Cairney, Wan-Bis, Stephens

    2.5 ITB

Thinking upgrade Cairney or Stephens, anywhere else I can use the monies?

Lucas Digne might be the Everton defender to get now at £5m though I’d probably get a cheaper defender like Cedric and then upgrade Cairney. Trent and Bellerin could be rotation risks but on the other hand could be great value.

RTM 2.0 not too dissimilar to the first, but more captain options:

Thanks. I’m looking at other premiums options, excluding those who participated late at the WC, I just not feeling them.

Eriksen at Kaneless Spurs - no. Mané double up with Salah - Maybe.
        Sané - definitely worth considering.
Auba - not an option until GW3 for me.

Thanks, yes both short term prospects. I don’t imagine I keep either beyond GW3, but we will see.

Expensive players so can easily switch for Auba, Hazard, KDB, Lukaku if required.

Maybe heart over head but really fancy Sanchez to explode first few weeks.

apparently Cedric is a doubt for GW1. Otherwise great team. Even though quite risky without Zaha or Arnie with the high ownership-rates they have

        • 8 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

I actually just read that he didn’t feature for Saints. Interesting, will have to monitor.

I don’t fancy Zaha this year, not sure he can punish me even with ownership now he seems to play winger again (anti-OOP).

Arnie with poor fixtures, I will definitely look to bring in around GW10.

What gives you confidence in Luiz starting?

Tosun did well when he came in last year and Everton has best opening fixtures of any team and Silva attacking manager

So much more balance without Salah as expected.

Judging by the grav you’re a gooner, so understandably see double Arsenal attack v City & Chelsea. I wouldn’t go there personally.

Monitor Cedrics absence from recent friendly.

Not really about Arsenal...I've been a disillusioned gooner for last few years...lol

        Salah is just too expensive.

Nice and you've done a good job picking mostly nailed playera aside Mahrez and maybe Luiz, which should negate the lack of a bench. But why buy CHO? He won't play and will be 4.3 by GW4

I think it's always worth having a bench otherwise you'll be using your wildcard early. That may be your intention, but when injuries / rotation hit, you'll be needing to take regular hits just to field 11

      Better options than Austin imo

Keita is not the Liverpool player you want to have long term - at some point you'll need other 3 and it will always hinder that

      Kiko/fabregas far from nailed

Like the Keita pick. However, that defence is pointlessly cheap if you're going to bench Austin - you should downgrade him and upgrade the likes of Cedric who will concede a bunch. Fabregas probably won't start much either.

As much as I know Maddison will be an epic pick, there's no point having him on your bench. Much better to downgrade on of Austin/Zaha/Maddison/Groß to a fodder and upgrade the likes of Shaw and Peltier. Sanchez is a risky pick in a Mourinho side. Otherwise good!

Saints will concede a lot. No point owning a defender in a team that concedes a lot, even if it's Alonso - last season, he was only scintillating when Chelsea were keeping the cleanies.

      Solid team.

I don't like having such a cheap bench, but that is personal preference I guess. Just be warned it may force you into hits / early WC.

Bailly and Kun could lose some game time leaving you short of players, so I'd wan't to make sure you have a playing bench.

Eriksen could be a great shout and a big differential, but it could easily go the other way!

Personally, I'd try upgrade the bench. I'd prefer to have a playing bench that I can fall back on if all else goes wrong.

Additionally, I'm not a fan of planning transfers. First few weeks will be chaos with bandwagons, there's a reason most WC's get played in the first few weeks!

My #1 problem is that I can't see a 4.5 forward that will play imo, and it feels like it would leave my team vulnerable if I had one. But thats just me!

thanks! well, the 4.5m midfielder would probably play (Stephens/Masuaku) with AWB probably playing as well..!

Yea my team is on the next page,

I think for me I'm starting with 3 atb for now, see how the first few games play out than reassess. Would rather miss a few CS, than some attacking points. especially first few games where bandwagons will form over attacking points before defense.. Just my opinion.

No need to get Ryan if you're going to go for Ederson. I'd downgrade Ryan to a 4M.
Mendy could be a good option but I have a feeling he might have his minutes managed due to his recent injury history.
Baines is potentially going to lose his place to Digne.
TAA is a rotation risk because of Clyne.
Daniels is a rotation risk because of Rico (from Sep 1).
I don't think Jorginho offers much going forward.

How does this look for the first 4-6 GWs?
Kabasele / Dunk / Bamba / AWB rotate well:

GW 1 - Kabasele vs BHA, Wan vs ful
GW 2 - Kabasele vs bur, Bamba vs NEW
GW 3 - Kabasele vs CPA, Bamba vs hud
GW 4 - Dunk vs FUL, Wan vs SOU
GW 5 - Dunk vs sou, Wan vs hud

Thanks. Usually I don't double up in defence but this season I'm going to attempt to ignore the effect of seeing a defender and a goalie in your team from the same team.

For example in GW 1 I'll be starting Foster and Kabasele because their odds of keeping a CS are better than Ryan's and Dunk's - it wouldn't make any sense to start one of the Brighton defenders. Going to try to focus on probability rather than not doubling up.

Following statistics often goes well, but its the human touch that can push you to the highest of ranks.

If you have the nerve to stick with it, it may well work out well. But as form becomes apparent in the early stages, if one of BHA or WAT are struggling, you might find yourself backed into a corner.

That being said, best of luck. I genuinely hope it goes really well and I'm completely wrong!

                1. stat
                    7 years, 4 months ago

That's true, but I'm too happy with my midfield and attack to downgrade someone in order to upgrade another defender. Luckily I'll probably WC around GW 5-6 so the damage done by Watford / Brighton being out of form shouldn't be too bad.
Best of luck to you too mate!

            Robertson Davies Luiz Bailly (Wan-Biss)
            Salah Mane Richarlison (Cairney Stephens)
            Aguero Zaha Arnie

Plan is to start with Davies and potentially switch to Mendy or a cheaper option at a good team who seems nailed based on the opening games which have been played.

KDB in for Mane, probably ahead of GW4 after Liverpool have played Brighton in GW3.

Starting with Richarlison as my 6.5 mid, but obviously able to switch between the plethora of other promising options in this price bracket. Possibly Maddison once Vardy is back and firing.

How much do you have in the bank, does it accomodate the Mane - KDB switch? If so then i like this team. Luiz (after Saturday) will be a very good asset if nailed.

0.0 ITB. Davies being downgraded ahead of GW3 will allow me to do Mane out, KDB in. If I end up going for Mendy for Davies, then I can't get KDB anyway as I'll be max Man City.

The likely scenario will be Davies to a 5.5, then Mane to KDB!
