A question to any Palace fans, or if anyone else happened to watch the Palace game in its entirety: how does PVA compare to WanB in means of positioning and offensive threat?

This week they both got an assist obviously (and PVA one disallowed goal), however I'm wondering wether it's likely to be a one-off with Wan-B?

    thanks in advance!

Wan Bissaka used to play as a winger. He'll carry on playing offensively IMO.

Probably wasnt the best use of a FT but I did Tomkins > Holebas as Wan is all the palace I want / need and Holebas looking good. Plus they have Pool this week, although I have a nasty feeling im going to be looking at attacking points on the bench for Wan again

to clarify I had Wan benched and Tomkins playing GW1

Unfortunately I don't get MOTD here in Sweden.. just the quick highlights of the (that) game.

Pundits are pundits, with everything that comes with it 🙂 what was your take? The stats (granted it's just been one game) are showing that PVA does come into more dangerous positions more often than W-B

I was at the game and was watching them closely as I own both. They both looked good but imo PvA is much more attacking and will get alot more attacking returns this season compared to Wan-Bissaka. He often overlapped and put in some dangerous crosses + he gets into some dangerous positions. I'm pretty happy owning both at the moment.

        Thanks, much appreciated!

I own W-B and had a good GW but have opted to use my Wildcard right away (crazy I know), and at the moment I can't fit both of them in. Otherwise I'd even be ok with tripling up on your defense (even though I understand all CPfans, and most others, will want have Zaha in their team)

Congratulations on having a great team this year, I think you'll do great this year (if you can just avoid last years injury night mares)

    Hey all,

I am pretty accepting of my team as a whole, but I do have two main things I would appreciate advice on.
    Team:
    Patricio/(Stek)
    Robbo/Mendy/TAA/(Luiz?)/(AWB?)
    Bilva/Jota/Salah/Fraser/(Stephens)
    Aguero/Auba/Austin

    1) I have Austin and I am a little worried about that. Admittedly I did not watch the game, but it didn't sound like he is a great pick to have currently. The prudent course seems to be to bank a transfer and give it another week. I think my team could cope with him staying in it. I have players (Luiz and AWB) that I could play over Austin and probably get by with equal or better point chances. Would you ditch Austin ASAP or hold? If holding would you start him or bench him?

    2) While the double pool defense paid off, is it a good idea to look forward at how to get Mane in the team? I could see either double defense or double midfielders working out, but I am not sure which one will make more sense.

    Thanks

      Hold.

I think the Mane ship for you has sailed cant see how youd get him without 2 or 3 transfers. Not worth a hit

      1. Nevi
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

Yeah, I didn't want a hit this early anyways. I knew going into the season with double pool def would lock me in for a while. I can try to plan it out, but plans out that far will be probably ruined for multiple reasons.

        Taa> 4.5m

        Austin>Kamara

        Auba> Zaha/Arnie

and then upgrade Bsilva is the way that seems to make most sense. A combination of these moves or so.

Your midfield is a bit light. So yeah, I would rehouse some money from upfront if i was you

      1. Nevi
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

If I did alter my front line, would you suggest doing it via an Austin downgrade, or letting auba or kun go? It would be nice to count this weekend as an anomaly for Kun and Auba if they start hitting form GW 2, but losing one of them would bring in more funds for a stronger mid.

        1. PrettyDick
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 3 months ago

I think you're right on both Kun and Auba, however if Kun get's rotated can one afford to have such an expensive player who perhaps is benched close to half of the season? If he was/is nailed I'd have him as one of the first ones on my team but now it's hard imo.

I'm still arguing for 'downgrading' salah to mane and freeing up funds that way, and then spend it anyway you like.

    3. Four Hit Wonder
      • 8 Years

      I'd bench Austin

    4. PrettyDick
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

      1) I agree with you and would either ditch ASAP or bench him. It's due to a few reasons.
      a. Southampton do not (tend to) produce many goals overall and Hughes is a very limited manager and I can't really se him turning that around.
      b. Austin isn't even nailed on imo, especially now that they've signed Ings. Who in his 34 minutes or so created more than the rest of his teammates did in an hour, and with just one days practice (?) with the team. Until next week I wouldn't be surprised if he started, so if you believe in/want a soton striker, why not Ings? You'd even save 0.5m. However I would look away from Southampton. Either go cheaper and save money, or stay the same but choose a more attacking team (Bournemouth/watford), or upgrade (I'll explain how in answering your next questions)

2). I am a huge Liverpool fan (and for what it's worth managed to get into top1K of FPL last year as well, if that matters;-) ) and I agree and disagree with you. Each to his own but I'm going with double liverpool defense, AND mane. Yep, you read that right, no Salah. If that's inconceivable for you, just disregard my suggestion, but here's my thinking behind it:
Since VVD joined Liverpool have kept most clean sheets in the league and not let a goal past them at home since february (PL only). The way we play there are always several chances of goals and/or assists for both wing backs. In the games that we most likely won't keep a clean sheet, it's also unlikely that Salah (or anyone) will go on a bonanza. With Salah having more defenders on his heels this year, and never getting BPS, I think Mane is a great option. It's also the little fact that it gives you an extra 3,5 million straight away to spend else where...

      In conclusion:

You decide about the planning and when to do which changes, but I'd take Salah out for Mané and upgrade several other positions.

      best of luck

Thanks for the advice. I will have to think about the 3 pool players. I am not opposed to no Salah, I just suffer from FOMO. I could see making the change and not regretting it. Maybe some feverish tinkering (without actually pulling the trigger) will help ;P

try it, but I must warn you: once you take Salah out and see what that extra money can do for you it's really hard to put him back in to your tinkering ... 😉

I think they've (fpl) tweaked the algorithm. On fffix its been showing massive price change potential since sat

If they have tweaked it so that it takes that many net transfers to affect a change, we could be looking at a totally different game.

A while back, I posted saying that I would select a team based on a program I wrote which produces the best possible team from the RMT tool. I ended up going with the best team over the first six weeks:

    Ederson/Stekelenburg
    Robertson/Alonso/Davies/Walker/Mendy
    Salah/Sanchez/Seri/Richarlison/Jorginho
    Arnie/Jiminez/Wood

I ended up with 79 points (and another 31 on the bench! Not bad for a team I had my doubts over.

I've also just completed a rough version of another program that recommends transfers based on the same idea. Nothing recommended in the short-term (under 6 weeks), but some very marginal gains (less than 5 points over the rest of the season) by doing Alonso>Valencia and Richarlison>Jota (assuming no further transfers). Not going to happen!

Interesting. Do you take into account trying to minimise the amount of cash left on your bench each week in order to maximise ppm scored on the field?

      1. flaming_iles
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 14 Years

Kind of - it tries to minimise the number of points on the bench, regardless of price. It knows that only starting players score points (unless bench boost is played), and will select a squad based on changing formations/benched players each week, depending on how well they are predicted to do.

For instance, it put Jorginho/Walker/Mendy on the bench last week. Madness as it turned out(!), but the numbers reflected a better chance of Liverpool/Chelsea/Spurs keeping clean sheets and scoring more goals than Man City, given the fixtures.

Safe to say, they're back in the team this week!

Everyone keeps wilfully ignoring what is staring them in the face. Defence is the place to spend those marginal 0.5s.

I was falling back into the 3-4-3 trap until a few days before the start, when I switched to 4-4-2. Of course, had I gone for 5-4-1 that logic told me I should have gone for, I'd have done even better.

Super strong defence full of attacking dull backs, strong midfield with Salah permacapped and weakass cheapie neched attack could be the answer to this game.

    Haven’t any City, 0.0 itb.

Only options are Sanchez > KDB, and for a hit, Luiz > Mendy for a -4.

I think I’ll just stick with what I’ve got now, suffer this GW and make the best moves based on another game in GW3.

Anyone care to chime in? Didn’t think Mendy would do so well, and Sanchez was a KDB/Sterling holder.

Sanchez -> KDB would make sense, but either of them could score well this week. Got to fancy KDB to outscore him over the season though, if Sanchez's form since Jan is anything to go by...

He's in my team currently for the same reason, plus as a Utd fan, I liked the idea of captaining him Friday night.

Shaw Mendy and Robertson could really turn out to be something special if all stay fit and nail there positions. I have Bailly and am tempted to swap for Shaw. Do I do it?

If Shaw plays well in tye next 2 gameweeks then maybe it could be alot tougher for young to get back his place. Young could well be used for CL and cup games.

Why switch to Shaw? Because he scored a goal? That’s his first..and might well be his last. Bailly much more nailed IMO.

I guess Shaw is a very good short term option then. Yes it was his first goal but he was hungry and will definetly get some decent balls into the net. Can always switch back to Bailly later. Bps magnet also.

My defence atm, but I doubt Shaw will be there much longer. I won’t take him out until he’s dropped but not expecting him to be long term. Always a chance he proves us wrong though

GW2: right team and bench order?
    Salah or Mendy as C?

    De Gea
    Mendy Robbo Peltier
    Salah Richa Jota Mane
    Zaha Aguero King

Salah or Kun imo, so Salah out of the two you asked about. Mendy could get another huge score but I don’t think it’s worth risking.

I plan on saving a transfer for next week because all of my guys were...well actually playing, so that's good I guess. However, I'm thinking of upgrading Bilva to KDB afterwards because KDB seems more safe according to popular opinion. I'd need to get rid of Kun for it to be possible and take a -4 though (because I'd want to get in another City player, probably in defence).

In short: Would you change Kun for KDB if it would allow you to get a City defensive player at the same time for -4? Kun would be replaced by some 6.0-7.0 guy.

Anyone else around who took the punt on Lacazette? What're your thoughts? I'm leaning towards keeping for this weekend and hoping he starts, but the fact he didn't start GW1 means he's not nailed and has got to go soon, right?

Maddison vs Jota comparison is interesting considering Maddison came off on the 63rd minute mark for Vardy and was against a Manchester United side away. I know it's only one game, but he is definitely an interesting one to keep an eye on, especially when him and Vardy eventually line up together.

Certainly. He should be one of the cheapies of the season but Leicester still have tough games. Jota will come good. It's 1 game

Definitely. Comparing all the 6.5 - 6 players who played, but didn't score, both him and Elyounoussi came out top. I didn't see the Southampton Burnley game, but Maddison was definitely unlucky not to get something.
