The January wildcard meant many managers ended up with very similar teams, but with injury doubts, tougher fixtures and the promise of double Gameweek profits, we’re starting to see those broken up and a host of new names being thrown about. With just 12 weeks to go, if you’re going to make a move on your mini league leader then it’s probably now or never; playing safe simply isn’t an option any more…..

Peter Odemwingie

As the hottest player in the FPL game over the last two weeks Peter Odemwingie is hardly an undiscovered talent, but with an ownership of only 3.5% the Nigerian International still very much falls into the ‘Differential’ category. An early season knee injury and subsequent fallout with manager Roy Hodgson saw Odemwingie increasingly marginalised in the West Brom setup, but that all seems to be behind him now; he looks like a new player recently and his confidence is overflowing.

West Brom are on fire at the moment; their 4-0 thrashing of in-form Sunderland followed a completely dominant victory over Wolves a week earlier, and Peter Odemwingie has been at his clinical best. Five goals and 30 points over the last two Gameweeks may flatter the Nigerian slightly, but it was no fluke either. Odemwingie has simply relished his new role on the right-flank, enabling him to cut in and threaten opponents – something he’s done more effectively than any other striker over the past two Gameweeks.

Pavel Pogrebnyak

In stark comparison to last year when injuries meant they were often forced to play without a recognised striker, Fulham fielded five at once at QPR last weekend; Moussa Dembele, Clint Dempsey, Bryan Ruiz, Andy Johnson and Pavel Pogrebnyak all started with the latter two playing in the formal striker roles. Andy Johnson offers an interesting option priced at just 4.7 in the FPL game, but it is new signing Pogrebnyak that most caught the eye last weekend and priced at 6.0 and with an ownership of 0.4%, the Russian could be a great third striker option. He recently admitted that he has found the frantic pace of the Premier League exhausting, but that hasn’t seemed to have stopped him banging in the goals so far.

Fixtures continue to fall Fulham’s way over the coming weeks, with home games against Wolves, Swansea and Norwich in the next five and having some representation from the Fulham attack looks almost essential right now. Clint Dempsey has been one of the most popular picks in recent weeks and still offers a strong threat, despite being relegated to a wide midfield role but at 9.2, many will be questioning the value considering the wealth of alternatives in midfield. Pogrebnyak offers an interesting “Differential” then, and if he can keep his starting role up front then he would be a much better value route into the Fulham attack.

Ryan Shotton

We’re always on the lookout for potential “Out Of Position”(OOP) defenders, and have been keeping a close eye on the progress of Ryan Shotton at Stoke, with Tony Pulis seemingly preferring the local youngster to Jermaine Pennant on the right flank. Now that he has shaken off the injury problems that were causing him problems last month, Shotton looks set for a continued run of starts in the team and with Pulis suggesting this week that playing in midfield is “very much a long term option for him”, we’re backing him to bring in the points this weekend.

With a home tie against Norwich up next, Shotton looks like great value at 4.0 considering his potential at both ends of the pitch. He had a great game against Swansea last weekend picking up an assist and a clean sheet, and although Norwich have a pretty good record on the road this season, they will find it hard to break down a full strength Stoke side and another home shut out looks a real possibility.

Fixtures play a big role though. Also, if you don't play walters this week, when are you going to play him?

Throw in PK's, stoke at home, norwich's record, etc and you've got the decision made. Plus Sess came back late from international duty, so he won't play 90 mins if at all. Walters always plays 90.

Planned keeping RVP Rooney Aguero as front three and just leaving them for the rest of the season, but starting to to fancy a little punt on Suarez for the dgw. Would you do it? If so who for? Leaning towards Aguero, RVP would lose me a fortune and Rooney has the fixtures... 😕

Aguero to Suarez isn't a bad punt for next week, the DGW, followed up by fixtures against QPR and Wigan is a fairly tasty prospect.

I'll probably do Aguero to Suarez next week, then look to bring Rooney in from therepersonally as I don't have him yet, i've got Ba

Keep RVP, Aguero is the most expendable given fixtures

Suarez doesnt have much form but great fixtures so could be worth it for Aguero. Rooney has fixtures RVP just class. For what its worth i am going for RVP, Rooney and Suarez in my wildcard next week and, looking at the fixtures, they should be keepers all season.

Yeah, I mean I'm wary of Norwich as I brought in Pilkington before, then he got dropped but he seems fairly assured of a starting berth at the moment. Hopefully.

    Long term transfers are

    Dzeko > Prog
    Dempsey > Nani
    Richards > Cahill
    Taiwo > Skertel

Have 1 FT this week. None of the above look like brilliant transfers.

Thinking Dzeko may start tomorrow, Prog has good fixture, but also having Dempsey feels like a dodgy double up.

Dempsey to Nani is definitely a future GW transfer even though Nani is rising tonight.

Richards to Cahill again is probably the wrong week, "if" he starts it is better fixture than Chelsea.

Richards to Skertel again not a great fixture tomorrow "if" Richards plays.

    Save transfer?

    Starting line up is

    Krul
    Kelly, Taiwo, Richards
    Dempsey, Silva (C), Sess, Mata
    Dzeko (VC), Ba, RVP

    Bale, J Evans, Santon Linde

(May swap the Bale and Sess sub/bench position.

Cahill and Nani rising tonight, but think it's not worth following the rise as think I can just about cope with increases.

Europa League Group E Match Day 2 Preview:

Maccabi Tel-Aviv (LightKnight) VS Dynamo Kyiv (JohnD)

The first fixture in Group E sees the 4th seed Maccabi Tel-Aviv take on the group favourite Dynamo Kyiv. Maccabi enter into the tie with morale low after scoring a miserable 36 points in defeat to Besiktas. Dynamo Kyiv secured a comfortable victory over Stoke in round 1 and will be confident of victory despite being at a 4 point disadvantage. However the Maccabi team is ridden with injured players and unless their manager LightKnight has made 2 inspired transfers it’s difficult to see anything but an away victory here.

    Team News:

Maccabi – Well, where to start here. This team is full of injury and rotation worries and it’s not surprising to see LightKnight has already made 2 transfers. Vermaelen, Bardsley, Van der Vaart, Gerrard and Van Persie go into the weekend as injury doubts while Senderos, Dzeko and Oxlade-Chamberlain are unsure of a starting role in their respective teams. Who has been sold and bought with the 2 transfers is anyone’s guess, with a possibility of more crazy differentials being brought in.
Dynamo – JohnD’s more generic team has the usual doubts of Van Persie, Bale and Kelly and otherwise a clean bill of health.

    Predicted Line-ups:

Maccabi – Cech Simpson Taiwo Kompany Bale Dempsey Gerrard McClean RVP Sturridge Dzeko*
Dynamo – Hart Kompany Kelly Simpson Bale Dempsey Walters Moses RVP Aguero Ba
*I’m just guessing the transfers made here

    Key Differential:

Maccabi – In fairness to LightKnight it’s nice to see so many different players in a team. Daniel Sturridge could be key if he can find some of his form from earlier in the season when Chelsea travel to West Brom.
Dynamo – Again there’s quite a few here, but I would back Sergio Aguero to deal the most damage when City face Bolton at the Etihad on Saturday.

    Stoke (Parmtree) VS Besiktas (Jack(off)attack)

The Group’s 2nd seed Besiktas, takes on 3rd seed Stoke in the second Group E encounter. Stoke were comfortably beaten by Dynamo Kyiv in round 1 and will be desperate to get their first win on the board. Besiktas recorded a 17 point hammering of Maccabi in Round 1 and will enter into the tie in high spirits. Besiktas manager Jack(off)attack will be out to take the scalp of one of the co-organisers of the competition, Parmtree, but will enter the tie at a 4 point disadvantage.

    Team News:

Stoke - Robin Van Persie is currently Parmtree’s only injury doubt. Steven Fletcher has recovered from illness and should take his place in the Wolves team once again. Hatem Ben Arfa and Micah Richards are unsure of starting roles in their respective teams and with 1 free transfer made, its possible 1 of this duo or Steven Fletcher has been replaced.
Besiktas – Jack(off)attack has several injury doubts here including; Van Persie, Bale, Kelly and Vermaelen. Anders Lindegaard has also been ruled out for Manchester United. Micah Richards is also unsure of a starting role for Man City. It’s likely 1 free transfer will be made to sell one of these players.

    Predicted Line ups:

Stoke – Krul Richards Simpson Caulker Nani Silva Dempsey Sessegnon RVP Aguero Yakubu
Besiktas – Krul Richards Kelly Enrique Silva Bale Dempsey Sigurdsson RVP Aguero Ba

    Key Differential:

Stoke – Parmtree will be hoping that Luis Nani can discover some of his earlier season form when Man United take on Spurs at White Hart Lane.
Besiktas – Jack(off)attack may look to Swansea maestro Gylfi Sigurdsson to produce against a leaky Wigan defence when the Swans travel to the DW Stadium.

        7.9m
assuming i did the FT for my dgw LIV coverage

can also stretch the budget to 8.5m if i get skrtel instead of GJ, or even JE

        so i would say 7.9-8.9

clevery too injury prone, miyaichi not sure about him.

would take a punt on mark davies though.

leaning more towards utd. coverage tbh, don't have any of their player. will get Jevans at GW29 to fund move though

      He's a big punt.

Penalty taking is definitely back with him now.

May get assist/goal from corners and freekicks.

Think goals from open play won't be consistent, judging by recent performances.

Steer clear of Liverpool's midfield, they're all too expensive and they're far from certain to even outscore the regulars - Dempsey, Bale, Silva, Sess - even in a double gameweek.

Not worth wasting two transfers getting one of them in and then out again, unless the rest of your team is literally perfect for the next 3 gameweeks

Gerrard is expensive, and playing much deeper than he used to, alongside Adam/Spearing in the midfield 2 of a 4-2-3-1.

I wouldn't say he's worth the cash currently, Adam is an interesting won, a fair few assists, but I'm still not sure over his overall fantasy production

    ok I have decided

    GW28

    Aguero + Richards ➡ Skrtel + Rooney

    GW30 Ba + Dempsey ➡ Yak + Nani

    GW32 Taiwo + Siggy ➡ Baines/Terry + Surman

        😆 most likely

I look at Rovers fixtures GW30 onwards and they're not bad, plus they will be relying on Yak to score the goals. Everton's fixtures GW32 onwards look good bar United away and you can bet Baines will be at the heart of anything good they do. Nani is a must for me right (but could become Valencia if it looks like he's going straight back in to free up the funds) Surman is in as he rotates with McLean and is cheap.
