The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 3 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is, not surprisingly, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who faces a very appealing home match against a Brighton side, who are notoriously poor on the road.

The Seagulls shipped nine goals in two league matches against Liverpool in 2017/18, four of them at Anfield in Gameweek 38. The Egyptian netted in that match and provided the assist for Dominic Solanke’s (£5.0m) 53rd minute goal too.

His case is, of course, strengthened by being Liverpool’s biggest goal threat against Crystal Palace on Monday night, even if he only managed two assists in the end.

Sadio Mané (£9.8m), owned by 31 percent, should prove a strong alternative candidate bearing in mind he is a must-have option for the 45 percent of Fantasy managers who do not own Salah, and remains ahead of him for both goal tally and FPL total score.

Either way, Liverpool assets are expected to dominate the captaincy debate this week considering that West Ham were the only top flight side to survive relegation in 2017/18 with more shots conceded on the road than Brighton.

Sergio Aguero‘s (£11.1m) hat-trick against Huddersfield on Sunday will naturally give him some backing for the captaincy this week, as Manchester City prepare to travel to the Molineux.

Wolves may have allowed fewer shots on their goal than any other side so far, but the fact that have still conceded four goals in two matches suggests there are areas to exploit for the reigning champions.

Aguero might be at slightly more risk of rotation this weekend but we will, as per usual, wait and see what emerges in the press conferences later this week.

After four assists in just two matches, the highly-owned Benjamin Mendy (£6.1m) is an option for a second week running. In fact, he finished third in the poll behind just Aguero and Salah for Gameweek 2.

After West Ham’s performance at Anfield in Gameweek 1 and a defeat at home to Bournemouth in Gameweek 3, Arsenal assets might also be worth looking at. The favourites there are expected to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m).

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting at Old Trafford reduces the appeal of a few usual suspects, namely Paul Pogba (£8.1m), Romelu Lukaku (£11.0m) and Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) for the Red Devils and Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) from the north London outfit.

West Ham at home, vs wolves away, this week. Think Arsenal are good at home.

Whilst city have better fixtures, think the involvement from Miki could be higher.

Not for a hit but I do think Mhki outscores Bilva... if Bilva even plays (I'm an owner). You never know with Pep roulette despite how effusive he was pre season. Then again, not obvious Aguero plays either despite the hatty. I was sure he would play last GW, don't know about this week though. He seems to get rested for away games when he is rested.

    Got HUGE dillema, guys.
    Salah, Jorginho, Westwood or
    Richarlison, Mkhitaryan, Pogba/Pedro/Walcott
Salah will probably haul, but is he worth all three guys in other group?

Did King + Mahrez ➡ Zaha + Mkhitaryan for free this last night. Gives me -

    Ederson
    Coleman - Shaw - TAA
    Salah - Mane - Mkhitaryan - Richarlison
    Aguero - Zaha - Arnautovic

    4m - Stephens - Bednarek - AWB

1.5m itb for Mendy next GW. Or, should I get Mendy in for a hit this GW?

    Thoughts, please?

Ashley Young is not getting back into the Utd back four after his display against BHA. Valencia at RB, Shaw at LB. Non owner. Utd fan, almost embarrassed to say that 😀 Need to sort the CBs.

What's wrong with Jones and Smalling? Surely they come in for Lindelof at a minimum and prob Bailly after the last game. Did Smalling fall out with Mourinho at the end of last season? I forget, he falls out with so many.. Valencia in for sure but wouldn't surprise me to see Shaw scapegoated as well (again).

I didn't think Shaw played particularly well either tbh. I'd be very surprised if he kept his place over Young.

I think I'd take the hit for Mendy. Price going to rise and he could go big again.

Hold Shaw for reasons as stated above. Bednarek to Bellerin? Switch between 3 and 4 at back. Not my style but easiest. Otherwise Coleman for Mendy. Bank the rest. I'd take the hit.

    Mendy-Robbo-Alonso
    Salah-Mané-Pedro-Richarlison
    Aguero-Zaha-Kamara

    4.0-Stephens-Peltier-Wan Wissaka

Current team; 0 ITB with 0 FT. Anything worth taking a hit?

    Schmeichel - Hamer
    Robertson - Mendy - Bellerin - Peltier - AWB
    Salah - Mane - B.Silva - Richarlison - Stephens
    Aguero - King - Arnautovic

Kind of worried about my defence but can't really change it unless I take a -8 and would most likely have to lose Silva to Mkhi, which isn't terrible but I think both could score big next 5/6 GW's so not too keen on losing him.

    Foster (fab)
    Robbo Mendy Cedric (peltier awb)
    Salah mane mahrez richarlison (gunnarsson)
    Aguero Austin Arnautovic

Thinking of just saving... but I really think Arsenal will switch on and hammer West Ham. Still have slight faith in Austin for some reason.

Are folks still hyped on Auba?

Is it just me or does he looks uncaptainable for the next 6 weeks, not sure I’d be getting him in at 11.0. Surely Mkhi is better value? Not really bothered by Haz either during this run - 2 v good captaincy rotators right here

Kun & Salah have this run during Auba/Haz’s good fixtures:

    GW3 - BRI (Salah)
    GW4 - NEW (Kun)
    GW5 - FUL (Kun)
    GW6 - SOU (Salah)
    GW7 - BRI (Kun)
    GW8 - MCY (Salah)
    GW9 - BUR (Kun)

Is that a joke? 8 away fixtures in next 12... and 3 of the 4 home games are City, Liverpool, Chelsea...

If there’s a time for Kane this season it’ll be GW15 - 8 home fixtures in following 12 and only 1 of the top 6 in those 12 games.

Yep this is good table - shows less points and less goals scored in away fixtures vs. Home fixtures:

I make it 15% more? In a year when they weren’t really at “home” so to speak.

Compare to the other teams, and you'll see that Spurs were far less affected than most

So we’re agreed then, spurs score less goals away from home, and with 8 away fixtures in his next 12 fixtures, and 3 of his 4 home games against City, Liverpool, Utd, Kane is a poor investment before GW15?

By GW15 he has 8 home fixtures in the following 12 and only one of the top 6 to face in that time period, so it could possibly be an option to get him then... but at that price it’s still off putting.

Brighton, Huddersfield, Cardiff & West Ham all together.

Not to mention, top tier players like Salah, Hazard, Aguero, Kane are fixture proof. If they're on form they'll score against anyone

It’s price though, and if they’re able to justify it. One goal a game from Kane doesn’t cut it in my opinion for the outlay and how it cuts points from elsewhere

Kane didn't score a Premier league home goal until the 22nd of October last year. He scored 6 goals away from home up until that point.

Last season he technically didn’t have any home games, so it’s not a great sample to draw from, but he is way less likely to do well in GW3-14 vs. GW15-27, throw in his price tag and I’m not sure if he’s even worth it from GW15 to be honest. But definitely not before then.

Yeah that's a good point to be fair. I just looked at the season before and 12 of his 29 Prem goals were away from home. Fair difference but still not too shabby.

This is part of my thinking long term now that I've played my wildcard. I've gone Auba & Aguero and have two 6.5 mids. If Kane hits form it's an easy 2 free transfers while still keep a big hitter.

Excuse my naivety....I don't understand this notion there is 'no point spending all this money if you aren't gonna captain him'?

This isn't the first time ive heard it, Can someone please explain?

The way i see it, you are paying for a player with a higher probability to score week in week out...so i want as many of these big game players i can get in my squad. the ones that i believe in my opinion are most likely to score.

Can someone tell me if/why i shouldn't be thinking this way?

Not for a hit. I would play Shaw, probably safe for one more game at least. Bellerin and Arsenal are horrible defensively (I'm a fan), is Trippier rotation proof? And United are at home... as much as I dislike them, rumors of their demise are probably exaggerated.

Nobody - and this is why I think the blame game with journos and the Scouts is so ridiculous - knows for sure who Pep will line up with but his praise was heavy for Bilva and he is versatile (look at the system GW1 vs GW2)... I do think Mihki outscores Bilva this week since WHU look so bad but some people have even suggested he makes way for Lacazette (I am an Arsenal fan and don't think that at all though)

Boly might come good, you never know. Same as whilst there are arguments to downgrade DDG there is no stand out option so its just a transfer down the line at the moment. Mourinho's response to adversity in all past lives has been to start playing for 0-0....

Tosun to Ings may be the best option as it leaves you free for future weeks when something urgent arises. You dont "need" someone who has scored from his only shots so far....

keep Fraser. Great fixtures and value. I would hold, downgrade DDG next week and then reassess.

As an aside, I have the same keepers, if Hamer is able to keep his place I'm tempted to play him... although does anybody think Mourinho, after this week, is going to do anything other than go back to being ultra defensive and maybe bringing back Jones and/or Smalling and Valencia? He'll play a 10-0-0 vs Spurs.

Your team is very good, so it seems unnecessary to use both transfers. Fraser is good value, but that's probably the best way for you to get Richarlison in imo. Still think Boly and Tosun will come good as well, so I think you're good to just bank the money and FT personally.

Not sure why everyone is so shocked by Firmino's performance last night. His movement is all about adjusting to Mané and particularly Salah who is essentially the centre forward in this team. Firmino also had no chance as a 'presence' against Sakho-Tomkins in such tight areas and no real pressing opportunities, he has nothing in tight games like that.
