The current top-scoring Fantasy Premier League midfield asset versus the record points holder for a single season. It needn’t be an either/or, of course, and plenty of FPL managers own both Sadio Mane (£9.9m) and Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) at this stage of the campaign.

With Jurgen Klopp hinting at rotation, Liverpool’s fixtures about to take a turn for the worse – the Reds face Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City in the next four Gameweeks – and a premium midfield alternative in Eden Hazard (£10.7m) in a rich vein of form, however, some Fantasy bosses may be considering jettisoning one of these two heavy hitters in the short-term at least.

In this Members’ piece, we will compare Salah and Mane directly while also taking a look at both Liverpool midfielders’ wider appeal compared to the alternatives in their position.

I’ve whittled it down to two key choices. Help me out wise people

    A) Mané, Wally > Hazard, Fraser (-4)
    B) Wally > Fraser / Maddison (FT)

    1FT 0itb
    Fabianski
    Alonso, Mendy, Robbo, PVA
    Salah, Mané*, Mkhi, Wally*
    Aguero, Wilson
    (Foster) (Wan-B, Hughes, Kamara)

Despite the price difference, I believe Salah will ultimately win out. I think Mané on the other hand is in a great run of form but is likely to settle down to a less explosive level and at the same time is less capable of magic when coming on from the bench than Salah. Hazard has the combination of form and fact there are fewer players in CHE sharing the involvement in goals and assists vs LIV.

The B) option is because ultimately it’s risky to drop either of the ‘Pool mids and I’m a Liverpool fan!

My head hurts! This IB is too long!

Yeah honestly, if you read the article, you wouldn't do Mane to Hazard. His points per million is better than anyone, meaning he is the best value player in the game right now (for the premium picks at least).

Wouldn't lose Walcott before West Ham at home. If he's fit to play he has a great record against them and they look shot for confidence ATM

I personally did something like A last week though it was Rich and not Wally but I'll advise B. Keep both Pool assets and get Fraser. Bou have a better stretch of games

I actually think your team looks pretty good for GW5. I would personally not use any transfers, then you can do your Hazard move GW6 without any cost.

I am not certain about him. He keeps delivering and blanking and is the most fixture proof player perhaps, but cheaper in form fwd:s like Mitro and Wilson (and Arnie with good fixtures after him) would save funds to be used elsewhere.

A lot of talk of rotation from Liverpool with Champions League matches and Leage Cup matches in between the premier league fixtures. But then everyone is dying to captain Salah against Southampton. I’m not sure at all if rotation will kick in and Mo may very well just play all games with slightly reduced minutes but if there was one game to rest him in, the Southampton game has to be up there with the most likely.

    1. Jealous Viper
      • 7 Years

Dont think klopp rests him there. Think Pools priority is the league and other fringe players have a chance to play in the tie against Chelsea. The worst thing for them is to play with the easiest match in that schedule

      1. Krionos
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Yes, but his point is that Salah definitely won't be rested against their rivals for top 4 spots. So these silly plans of removing Salah only to get him in for easy fixtures have a high chance of ending in tears!

        1. Cok3y5murf
          • 9 Years

He said Pool's priority is the league, so it looks like he meant their EFL cup tie against Chelsea. Which makes sense. No brainer that Pool won't rest players before an EFL cup game. It's the least of their priorities.

    2. Moosie the Staggie
      • 13 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

For sure, but it could just as easily be Mane that is rested.
Best not to over think it imo, Salah (c)

      1. Moosie the Staggie
        • 13 Years

Ideal scenario is for pool to be 3 nil up Vs psg after 60 mins then he's subbed off early

    3. Cok3y5murf
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

Southampton game isn't likely at all.

They've got CL, then 4 days later the Southampton game, then 3 days later EFL cup, then 4 days later Chelsea in the PL.

Clearly, the rotation is going to happen in the EFL cup game, which means the side will be full strength in the Southampton game. Benching Salah 2 games in a row makes no sense, he's a professional football player.

It can be done, yes, problem is of course that you have limited flexibility. If Bennet loses his place you only have 4 options in defense and Hamer is not even first choice meaning you will have to play Patricio every week.

The forward line is good of course, but I would rather lose one of the expensive mids for say, a Silva so you can have a strong keeper rotation and a better 5th mid option to rotate with Neves.

You're right to ditch Mhki. I have him and almost certainly will. I didn't think he was a rotation option but I thought Arsenal were great in attack with Auba and Lacazette at the weekend and it seems unlikely Ozil will make way.

Out of Sterling and Mane I would go Mane, not just because he has more points. Liverpool's upcoming games are tough it's true, but I think that means you'll see little rotation from top players and right now, I fancy Liverpool to score past anybody anyway. if Sterling was going to be playing every week he's a no-brainer, even at 11. But he's not and City's easy fixtures combined with the CL starting make me think there will be a lot of rotation for him.

100% agree on this. But with that logic, you can bet that Salah and Mane will be 100% starters for the tougher games against Tottenham and Chelsea.

The league is always priority number 1 right? So why ditch the likes of Salah and Mane for this run?

            1. Cok3y5murf
              • 9 Years

They will 100% start, but their minutes are very likely to be managed, like being withdrawn at 70', since these fixtures are followed by CL midweek.

The sales are also due to the fact that the fixtures actually harder than Hazard's.

You are probably right, don't think it's quite as simple as that though. Pool also play Chelsea in the cup and it's still a trophy, plus it would be good to beat Chelsea in the cup and go into the league match with a psychological advantage. I'm playing details advocate though, I imagine you are right.

    repost from old post;

    G2G with this WC team?

    Patricio, Foster
    Alonso, Mendy, Robbo, AWB, Bennett
    Salah, Pedro, Pereyra, Fraser, Moura
    Vardy, Kun, Ings

Like many other on a WC. Starting to look decent, but still a few questions.

    Current team: 1,8 ITB
    Patricio (Hamer)
    shaw, mendy, alonso (AWB, bennet)
    Pedro, alonso, mane, moura (billing)
    ings, kun, vardy

I like LEI fixtures, and when on a WC i would preferably like as many nailed on players as possible. Hence Pedro and maybe Moura are the ones most likely to be rotatede. The back 5 I am pretty happy with, although Robbie might punish me...

    Please advice:
    a) mane, moura -> salah, fraser
    b) ings -> mitro
    c) Pedro -> maddison
    d) Pedro for GW 5 and 6, shift to Maddison/Rich in GW 7

    Any help greatly appreciated 🙂

Which is better, 1 or 2?

    1.3-4-3

    Patricio
    Mendy/Alonso/Shaw
    Hazard/Salah/Pedro/Pogba/
    Aguero/Wilson/Ings

    Bench:Hamer/Wan/Bennett/Stephens

    2. 3-5-2

Don't really know which of those combos I'd prefer. Not much difference as Wilson/ Fraser look both good options and on the other hand in Pedro/ Ramsey there is two players who aren't as nailed but both capable to returns

All set on this WC team. 🙂

    Patricio - Hamer
    Alonso - Mendy - Dunk - AWB - Bennett
    Sterling - Hazard - Fraser - Ward - Hojbjerg
    Aguero - Lukaku - Vardy

Have a Kane and Salah plan in place that involves no hits.

    GW 6 - Save FT
    GW 7 - Hazard âž¡ Richarlison
    GW 8 - Aguero âž¡ Kane
    GW 9 - Dunk âž¡ TAA
    GW 10 - Sterling + Richarlison âž¡ Salah + Pereyra
    GW 11 - Patricio âž¡ Fabianski
    GW 12 - Save FT
    GW 13 - Kane âž¡ Aguero
    GW 14 - Fraser + Lukaku âž¡ Hazard + Arnautovic

Covered all the big hitters for all their juicy fixture runs without ANY HITS. Planning that far ahead seldom works out but it's better to have a plan than none I guess. I will stick to this plan if everything goes my way. 😉

    Thoughts? 🙂

I'm. I will happily take 1 goal a game from Salah over the next 4 as I believe the upgrades elsewhere in my team would better that. Salah will then be back in my team in GW 9.

I probably will bring Salah in GW 9 along with TAA.

So, only GW 6 to worry about and I'll be happy if Salah scores 1 goal. My other players would cover that. Moreover, very high chance of Salah getting hooked early in GW 6 with a congested fixture schedule to follow.

The problem with plans is you become so obsessed with implementing them that you forget about the fundamentals of the game. What if Arnie massively kicks into gear around GW10 but your plan is working out transfer wise. Do you feel you'll be able to move away from the plan? Or will it become the aim of the game iitself.

      1. pundit of punts
        • 12 Years

I'll definitely be flexible. For e.g. if Arnie hits form like you say then Vardy âž¡ Arnie is an easy move for a hit but if Vardy keeps on getting points then Arnie's points won't bother me much.

Selling Aub for a hit is crazy. Newcastle won’t Park the bus against a weak Arsenal defence. There will be goals in that game. Aub is most likely to return.

Tough one, as Auba owner from GW1 i'm feeling the pain of this one.

I wouldn't do it for a hit. Fixture turn and Auba could hit form, finally got himself a goal. If you can do it for free and Auba still not providing then would go for Aguero and even Lukaku is worth considering.

That is assuming those without Salah do not have other players who can get hauls, strong back line and overall squad AND Hazard/Mane/Aguero/Lukaku etc etc.
It is not just one player that get points in fpl they all can.
