The current top-scoring Fantasy Premier League midfield asset versus the record points holder for a single season. It needn’t be an either/or, of course, and plenty of FPL managers own both Sadio Mane (£9.9m) and Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) at this stage of the campaign.

With Jurgen Klopp hinting at rotation, Liverpool’s fixtures about to take a turn for the worse – the Reds face Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City in the next four Gameweeks – and a premium midfield alternative in Eden Hazard (£10.7m) in a rich vein of form, however, some Fantasy bosses may be considering jettisoning one of these two heavy hitters in the short-term at least.

In this Members’ piece, we will compare Salah and Mane directly while also taking a look at both Liverpool midfielders’ wider appeal compared to the alternatives in their position.

    maddison+5.6(jimenez/ings) OR vardy+4.5 fodder?

Maddison has impressed me, although my midfield is already set so I couldn't find a way to get him in. I like the first option w/ Jimenez for differential.

What do you think of my wildcard team (going salah and robbo-less):

    Patricio, Hamer
    Alonso, Mendy, Shaw, Holebas, WB
    Hazard, Mane, Walcott, Hjoberg, Fraser
    Aguero, Zaha, Lacazette

    0 itb.

    (I got rid of : Kepa - Ryan - Trippier - AA - Schellotto - Salah (!) - Masuaku - Bilva - Arnie).

Zaha injured, Walcott unreliable. Looks good otherwise

Same as mine only I went:
      Vardy over Laca
      Pedro over Wally
      Salah over Mane

      Good luck with it!

        Awesome thanks!
I'm going switch Wally - Richa after the West Ham game and as an arsenal fan, just can't part with Laca! He was on fire against Cardiff and has a point to prove to emery.

Would like to get Mitro in, maybe after City game but who to swap for?

    A) Arnie
    B) Aguero 🙂
    C) Wilson

One of Arnie/Wilson and would lean towards dropping Wilson as Arnie has PKs

Great article guys. Helps very much in the long term thinking as I'm doubtful I will hold Mane and Salah for the season.

As a non member is it egregious of me to simply ask if the article suggests one over the other for the next 4? Right now I'm leaning toward a Salah-less WC team with Mane as my LIV cover.

Jonny Otto is some of an attacking threat, no? Same price as Doherty however he seems much less popular.

Jonny, Doherty or Bennett in your opinion?

From what I've watched, I've liked the look of Doherty the most

Doherty seems the threat, but I like that 0.4 you save with Bennett as you are likely going to use them as bench fodder. I think better to spread that extra budget around.

Doherty more attacking than Jonny. Jonny probably going to get more baps than Doherty. Hope it helps?!

Help a brother decide among these mids
    A - Maddinson
    B - Maura
C - keep richarlison and FT

Maura could be tottenham's go to guy. I'd go with him. Richarlison's fixtures are mixed when he returns.

    Which sounds more sensible?

    A. Robertson , Kamara or;
    B. Bennett, Mitro

Imo id actually get more use out of B, but dropping robbo...agh

    1. Kellz86
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

Yeah tough call - I'd also lean B because Bennett should get more playing time than Kamara. I anticipate the LIV def will start to concede. Mitro could easily outscore Robo in the next 4 weeks until LIV become attractive again (fixture wise)

B will get you more points if you’re using both players regularly

I would actually consider gambling without and hope these tough fixtures curtail him for a few weeks.

I went Shaw and used money elsewhere.

    3. Kellz86

Honestly I wouldn't be getting Robbo on a WC with the next 4 fixtures coming for LIV in the league and the CL matches too boot.

I also agree Shaw looks nailed and Utd have a great fixture list coming up.

Depends on whether or not your bench has starting defenders. If you have WB first sub then I'd go with Robertson. I think he has been the outstanding FPL defender this year.

Shaw for me when I considered this too

Robertson could still give you some returns (odd clean sheet & assist) even thou he has Spurs, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal in their next 7 premiership games but others could return more (Shaw, Monreal, Bellerin, Trippier, Luiz, Mcguire) Robertson has trickier Prem league games but factor in a Chelsea Cup match, a few challenging champions league games v PSG and Napoli , and 4 Scotland games (he is now captain) in next 4-5 weeks and it a tough ask

    Hows this looking?

    Alonso Mendy Shaw AWB
    Hazard Salah D.Silva
    Deeney Kun Mitrovic
    Hamer Holebas Hughes Højbjerg

There is a lot of talk on here about the testing of VAR in PL GW 5.

As I understand it, this will NOT have any affect on the actual matches being played in GW 5, as they are only trying it out and assessing whether the VAR center can manage the number of games etc.

Perhaps the refs will be extra alert in these games, but there will be no contact between the VAR team and the actual referees on the pitch.

It will be very interesting to see the effect on FPL once VAR is implemented for real in the PL, but for now it should not affect our decisions!

“The 'as-live' match scenario will be replicated in the VAR hub but there will be no contact between the team at Stockley Park and the officials on the pitch.”

The analysis left out a key distinction: Mane's hair is loads better than Salah's rather pedestrian coif.

Great article, really impressed with this. It’s a big decision that lots are considering and this is fantastic insight to help inform the decision making process. I feel a lot more comfortable with my decision to keep Salah having read it.

What about this Mid / Forward formation:

Mid: Salah, Mane, Hazard, Richarlison (GW6+), Hughes
    Fwd: Ings, Wilson, Mitrovic

    Still have enough funds for
    GK: 4.5, 4.5
Def: Alonso, Mendy, Robertson, WBS, 4.5

Could work. But if you do it, i think you make things harder for yourself. They are steady point pickers.
