There is relatively little faith in the Manchester United defence in the Fantasy community at this moment, following their shaky start in August.

The Red Devils were the only “big six” club who didn’t possess a defender with a double-digit ownership in Fantasy Premier League going into Gameweek 4, though Luke Shaw (£5.1m) has just broken through that threshold this week.

Shaw’s popularity surge, however, can be mostly attributed to his attacking threat and cut-price cost, rather than faith in United’s ability to register clean sheets.

Over 500,000 FPL bosses currently own Shaw and they will be anxiously awaiting an update on the head injury that led to his second-half substitution in England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain last night.

David de Gea (£5.9m), who enjoyed a 30%+ ownership before the start of the season, has been sold by more FPL managers than any other goalkeeper this season.

The clean sheet United recorded in the 2-0 win over Burnley was their first of the season and marked the end of a dismal run of seven goals conceded in three league matches.

Has United’s defence statistically been that bad, though, and is the shut-out at Turf Moor a more positive sign of things to come?

In this latest Members’ article, we analyse the underlying data being recorded by United’s backline and ask if their defenders – and de Gea – are worthy of consideration in our FPL squads going forward.

If it's just for one week, I don't mind playing Neves. Could score vs Burnley who conceed lots of long-range shots

Could do the switch to Chilwell either if Shaw is out longer term.

The entire site has changed its approach to earn more money and get more ad revenue through clicks. Clearly some marketing people have taken over the daily running from Mark and are calling the shots. I never read the articles anyway, dont care much if they are for members or not. You can get all the same info from other sources, just except the subjective interpretation of the stats (which I often disagree with anyway).

    Bottomed on last article.

On a WC, what do we think is the best option?

    A) D.Silva & fraser
    B) Moura & Maddison
    C) Richarlison & Maddison + 1.1m

The 1.1 would be used to make gomez Robbo, or bennett to shaw.

    Patricio (Hamer)
    Alonso, Mendy, Gomez (Bennet WB)
    Salah Hazard XX XX (Billing)
    Aguero, Wilson, Mitro

I have him and am looking to swap. Think he finds himself prone to rotation as much as any of the other midfield. For me seeing him played as wing back just lessens the appeal further despite City and their obvious attacking threat. With so many other options in midfield I think it's easy to downgrade and make use of the extra cash. Ultimately I don't see enough returns from a 7mil mid.

That's a fairly loaded bench. You'll have to at least play 4 atb maybe even 5. Other than that looks ok to me. Maybe ings for Jimenez

    2. WesMantooth
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

theres little reason to hide an excess of 2 million. Thats what your bench is doing.

      1. FlockofSeagulls
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

With that bench I have options regarding formation, fixtures and obviously good backup potential if called upon.

I know I could go cheaper but I honestly don't see where I spend that excess cash?

        I'm open to suggestions.

        1. Jealous Viper
          • 7 Years

If you're pumping money into your def that's fine but are you willing to play 5 atb at some point and make your def the main sources of points

          1. FlockofSeagulls
            • 8 Years
            7 years, 3 months ago

Do I have to play 5 atb? Can I have the option of playing 3 or 4 atb according to fixtures whilst also hanging onto the most popular defensive assets whilst their prices rise?

Saves me future transfers doesn't it.

            1. Jealous Viper
              • 7 Years
              7 years, 3 months ago

You could do that but I feel you would have a lot of weeks with points on your bench. Points over pounds for me. Get players who you want to play unless you're playing the game for team value

              1. FlockofSeagulls
                • 8 Years
                7 years, 3 months ago

I get what you're saying but where does that extra cash improve my first 11 if I invested there? I'm open to suggestions but haven't received any as yet.

Better to have that money working for me on the bench than itb doing nothing.

His hold on bonus points is incredible. Even an assist could get him 3bps

Going to swap Mkhy to Richarlison next week. Should I start Mkhy or Robertson this week?

Still go Mkhi unless there are strong signs he won't start. Robbo would have to get attacking returns as I dont see Pool with a CS

    Need an opinion please:

4.5 defender with Mitro - if so, who’s the best 4.5 or less that’s not wolves or palace?
    Or....
5.0 defender with Wilson?? Same Q, re: best defender in that price bracket.

    Cheers all!

Very good team but do you need that much premium defenders ?

They are really midfielders given the position they play! So it's like fielding 8 midfielders.

Too much money in defence. Even cook on the bench. Would upgrade midfield a little

He's only 4.5, and good value so far, with a good run of games.

Getting rid of Tosun this GW. Not sure who to replace him with:

    A. Wilson
    B. Deeney
    C. Murray
    D. King
    E. Zaha (if fit)
    F. Arnie
    G. Someone else?

    Already have Mitro and Kun
    Cheers all!
