Captains

This week looks like it could be one of the most one-sided captain debates in recent Fantasy Premier League memory.

Chelsea and Liverpool’s Stamford Bridge showdown on Saturday has cancelled out usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard, leaving just Sergio Aguero as an obvious candidate.

We’ve gone over our captain poll as well as data from the last four Gameweeks concerning individual players, team attacking numbers and opposition defensive statistics to find out the best option.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) is set for the biggest margin of victory of any captain poll we have conducted so far this season in Gameweek 7.

The Manchester City man, set for a home fixture against Brighton, has 62% of the vote at the time of writing.

That’s not surprising considering that Aguero has averaged 11 points per home game in 2018/19, while the Seagulls have conceded five goals in their first three away matches.

The meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool has practically eliminated both usual suspects Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Eden Hazard (£11.0m).

They currently have 2.02% and 1.75% in the captain poll as a result of Saturday evening’s show-stopper event.

It is for this reason that Aguero is so far ahead in the vote.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) has come up in second place with 9%, which is still 53% lower than the Man City man.

Kane and his Tottenham colleagues do face a particularly appealing fixture in Gameweek 7 as they travel to face Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are one of just two sides yet to score a goal at home this season and they are yet to find the net from open play too. At the other end of the pitch they have been breached 14 times in six matches. Total domination is expected for Spurs, with Kane as the offensive focal point.

Ahead of the visit of a very leaky Fulham defence, Richarlison (£6.6m) looks set for a third-place finish in our poll. Before picking up a three-match ban in Gameweek 3, the Everton man had three goals to his name in the first two Gameweeks and appears to be a central attacking figure for the Toffees this season. He had more shots than any of his colleagues in the defeat at Arsenal so feels the most likely to take advantage of Fulham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

It is currently a close battle between Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) for fourth place, with 2.69% and 2.56% shares of the vote respectively.

Frenchman Lacazette has averaged 5.17 points per game so far this season and is preparing to host a Watford side with just one clean sheet in 2018/19.

Meanwhile, no player in the league has more goals than Mitrovic right now and Aguero is the only man to have fired off more shots than him in the opening six Gameweeks. Crucially, he’ll be facing an Everton outfit yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

The Gameweek 7 poll also showed early indications of Lacazette’s popularity compared to his esteemed colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m). The Gabonese forward still remains in more Fantasy squads than Lacazette (11.2% ownership to 5.6%) but the latter has done marginally better in this week’s vote. While Lacazette has that 2.69% share, Aubameyang is below him on 2.07%.

Despite strong underlying numbers and a promising fixture in Gameweek 7, Romelu Lukaku (£11.1m) currently sits below both Salah and Hazard on 1.68% of the vote.

So we're none the wiser on Mendy. Pedro might play. Aargh

Who do I use this weeks transfer on?
    Pedro > Richarlison
Daniels > another cheap defender with good run ahead
Mendy > think I'll keep for 1 more GW.
    Arnie > 100% fit

So it's between Daniels and Pedro or take a hit and improve both and give myself a benching headache.

Same Mendy/Pedro issue. Pedro out seems sensible, but if Mendy's properly injured/out would rather wait to maybe get Sane and cheap def for free. So probably just holding and take this week on the chin.

Not worth the 2 FTs or a minus 4 if you can cover with your bench.

I agree at this point but that’s what people said two weeks ago, “I’ll hold”, lot of cash on the bench and have watched his price fall twice and almost certainly again before the deadline.

At some point it becomes just hoping. I ditched the moment the “small knee injury” became a metartarsal. The City med team don’t know the difference between a knee and an ankle? Something doesn’t seem right.

Yeah same. I can cover with AWB and Bennett for the next 2 gws and then there's the 2 week international break.

          I'll use my FTs elsewhere.

Lot of love for Trippier and he should play but I thought he might be at risk of rotation with Walkers-Peters or whatever ridiculous double barrelled name fullback the spuds have got. They have Barcelona next week which he’ll surely play in and Poch loves to play young players so what better games than Spurs’ next two?

For those concerned about Matt Doherty.

No fresh injury concerns for Wolves ahead of their game with Southampton.

Following the return of Ivan Cavaleiro in the Carabao Cup - Nunes has a fully fit squad to choose from. #Wolves

          Pep about Mendy

"He was injured six, seven months last season. Now he's injured again. Every day he's having treatment," he said.

"He arrived late, that happens sometimes, in the last period a lot have arrived late because of the traffic. Manchester is under construction, the players arrive late. They have to drop their kids at school.....they should be here and he knows it. I spoke with him.

"I expect him back when he's fit.
Now he's injured, he's not a problem with physical condition, he's quick. he's injured and when he's ok he's coming back and when he decides to play he's going to play."

You've not mentioned the bit where he questioned with "what, on a Sunday?"
Then he completely got rid of the excuses.

Anyone help me out with David Silva?
His mid week start and early substitution make me think he'll start against BHA. What do you think? How do you reckon city will line up?

I want to move him to Richarlison and would prefer to catch the price rise tonight.

It's the million dollar question this week, personally I think he'll play but I'm by no means certain.

How's your bench? For me Silva either starts or doesn't play at all... resting for CL. If you've got a decent bench I'd be tempted to keep him. Could haul against Brighton easily.

For me Wilson comes in if he doesn't play so it's a no brainer to keep.

Tricky one, slightly different situation for me as I've already done Moura > Richarlison this week, I would want Rich in your shoes too... is there any other route to get him that doesn't mean dropping Silva?

Afraid not. Mane, Hazard and Maddison would work financially. Billing would need a hit and a formation change. I think I'll make the move and hope Silva stays quiet. Cheers for the chat. GL

Yeah I wouldn't be losing any of those 3, this is a fairly good week to make the switch as after this week Silva's fixtures swing anyway so the potential downside is minimal. He may not even play and if he does there's certainly no guarantee of big points.

If I was wildcarding Silva would be out, no question. Richarlison over the next few looks great.

                    You too!

Dunk (vs MCI) will replace Mendy if he isn't fit but i'd rather roll the transfer even though Dunk's fixture can't be worse. Atleast i'l captain Aguero.
Most likely there won't be many clean sheets this gameweek. GW6 was special, 8/20 teams got a clean sheet.

City very likely to get a clean sheet. Both Liverpool and Chelsea will probably concede.
Can see Arsenal conceding against Watford and United conceding against West Ham with Arnautovic fit.
I can do Dunk -> Doherty but a clean sheet for Wolves isn't certain. Next gameweek if Mendy isn't back my Dunk as replacement has a much better fixture and in worst case Mendy won't be back until after international break, but i'l keep the transfer and most likely avoid taking any hits in the upcoming games.

With 2 FT's going into GW8 i'm also better prepared to grab Kane vs Cardiff.

"There have been further concerns about his behaviour away from the pitch and it appears that he has fallen foul of Guardiola again, with the Catalan saying on Friday that he will return to action "when he decides to play".

Tough one, Wolves defence seems to be in decent form so can't see Saints scoring many, so likelihood of Ings getting more than a goal or assist is pretty remote (in my opinion!). Bournemouth have been pretty decent at attacking (bar the 4-0 drubbing last week) so AWB may not get a clean sheet. On balance I'd probably go for AWB as I fancy a Palace clean sheet over Saints scoring (let alone Ings being involved in that goal) - I haven't checked the bookies' odds though.

I own both and am playing both, but not expecting huge returns from either.

Deflected goal. Ghost touch assist. Pen with Vardy off the pitch. Free kick that Lossl should have done better on.

He's great at getting lucky 😀

With KDB nearly back in training and D Silva having played in mid-week (and not being able to play more than twice in a week), is now a good time to jump off the Silva train?

What to do here chaps?? 2FTS and 0.1ITB

              A) Mendy + Mane > Doherty + Sterling
              B) Mendy + Mane > Doherty + Hazard
              C) Mendy + Mane > Laporte + Richarlison
              D) Kepa + Mendy > Patricio + Laporte

              Kepa
              Alonso, Robbo, Wan Bizzi
              Salah, Mane, Bilva
              Aguero, King, Zaha

              Hamer, Billing, Stephens, Peltier

C allows me to do Bilva to Hazard, or Aguero to Kun next week.
