This week looks like it could be one of the most one-sided captain debates in recent Fantasy Premier League memory.

Chelsea and Liverpool’s Stamford Bridge showdown on Saturday has cancelled out usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard, leaving just Sergio Aguero as an obvious candidate.

We’ve gone over our captain poll as well as data from the last four Gameweeks concerning individual players, team attacking numbers and opposition defensive statistics to find out the best option.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) is set for the biggest margin of victory of any captain poll we have conducted so far this season in Gameweek 7.

The Manchester City man, set for a home fixture against Brighton, has 62% of the vote at the time of writing.

That’s not surprising considering that Aguero has averaged 11 points per home game in 2018/19, while the Seagulls have conceded five goals in their first three away matches.

The meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool has practically eliminated both usual suspects Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Eden Hazard (£11.0m).

They currently have 2.02% and 1.75% in the captain poll as a result of Saturday evening’s show-stopper event.

It is for this reason that Aguero is so far ahead in the vote.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) has come up in second place with 9%, which is still 53% lower than the Man City man.

Kane and his Tottenham colleagues do face a particularly appealing fixture in Gameweek 7 as they travel to face Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are one of just two sides yet to score a goal at home this season and they are yet to find the net from open play too. At the other end of the pitch they have been breached 14 times in six matches. Total domination is expected for Spurs, with Kane as the offensive focal point.

Ahead of the visit of a very leaky Fulham defence, Richarlison (£6.6m) looks set for a third-place finish in our poll. Before picking up a three-match ban in Gameweek 3, the Everton man had three goals to his name in the first two Gameweeks and appears to be a central attacking figure for the Toffees this season. He had more shots than any of his colleagues in the defeat at Arsenal so feels the most likely to take advantage of Fulham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

It is currently a close battle between Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) for fourth place, with 2.69% and 2.56% shares of the vote respectively.

Frenchman Lacazette has averaged 5.17 points per game so far this season and is preparing to host a Watford side with just one clean sheet in 2018/19.

Meanwhile, no player in the league has more goals than Mitrovic right now and Aguero is the only man to have fired off more shots than him in the opening six Gameweeks. Crucially, he’ll be facing an Everton outfit yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

The Gameweek 7 poll also showed early indications of Lacazette’s popularity compared to his esteemed colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m). The Gabonese forward still remains in more Fantasy squads than Lacazette (11.2% ownership to 5.6%) but the latter has done marginally better in this week’s vote. While Lacazette has that 2.69% share, Aubameyang is below him on 2.07%.

Despite strong underlying numbers and a promising fixture in Gameweek 7, Romelu Lukaku (£11.1m) currently sits below both Salah and Hazard on 1.68% of the vote.

“He was injured six, seven months last season. Now he’s injured again. Every day he’s having treatment.

“He arrived late, that happens sometimes, in the last period a lot have arrived late because of the traffic. Manchester is under construction, the players arrive late. They have to drop their kids at school.....they should be here and he knows it. I spoke with him.

“I expect him back when he’s fit. Now he’s injured, he’s not a problem with physical condition, he’s quick. he’s injured and when he’s ok he’s coming back and when he decides to play he’s going to play.”

    Repost (sort of)

I'm planning on shipping three out over the next three weeks to make room for a premium, but for the minute, this is my choice: one of: wilson or robertson or schurrle. Do we agree that Wilson/Fraser will get more points than Mane/Robertson or Schurrle/Mitrovic?

    1. eclipse
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

No. Last week's game was a wake up for those of (me included) with Wilson and Fraser. Bournemouth weren't up for it. Schurrle has good attacking stats so I think it's him or Fraser.

From gw9 long term, would you go:

    A)

    Ederson, Stekelenburg
    TAA, Alonso, Trippier, WB, Doherty
    Hazard, Salah, Richarlison, Fraser, MADDISON
    Kun, Mitrovic, KAMARA

    B)

    Ederson, Stekelenburg
    TAA, Alonso, Trippier, WB, Doherty
    Hazard, Salah, Richarlison, Fraser, HOJBJERG
    Kun, Mitrovic, ARNAUTOVIC

    1. eclipse

Long term I'd go for Wilson or Ings ahead of Arnie. All will score similar points. It's then Maddison vs. Wilson / Ings. This way you could afford Robertson in defence (assuming the 4 midfielders and 2 strikers in both stay the same).

Or swap Arnie to Ings and improve Maddison. His goals have been lucky. Vardy went off 5 mins before the pen. Another was a deflection and hopeless goalkeeping. Last week was a free kick.

Maybe but he has also hit the underside of the bar and created quite a few chances that have not been taken by team mates so not always lucky.

I see ypur point, but owning free kicks tells a lot about Maddison's authority in Leicester. And plus he has some very nice fixtures in next ten gws.

Considering a double up Liverpool defence for WC.

      Maybe something like this:

      Fabianski, Hart
      TAA, Alonso, Robertson, AWB, Doherty
      Salah, Hazard, Maddison, Richarlison, Ward
      Aguero, Mitrovic, Ings

To be played either before GW8 or GW9 probably.

          Yes I took a hit.
I didn't get Hazard in a couple of weeks ago and haven't forgiven myself for not making the move so I've gambled this time.

      De Gea
      Doherty, AWB, Trippier
      Salah, Hazard, Maddison, Moura
      Wilson, Mitro, Aguer(c)

      Bench: Hamer, TAA, D.Luiz, Stephens

I don't know about Moura, i'm thinking he'll have his game time managed and are siding towards Richarlison for a -4 before he rises tonight.

Would you made any changes to the team?

      Thanks guys

Dunno, I'm playing Robbo and Alonso over my palace defs.

Maybe play robbo as only 2 goals conceded in 6 games. Might not work out but its something to make a decision on!

You are looking at that statement a way too simply and it is never that straight forward when it comes to Pep.

When he says 'and he will be back 'quite soon' he probably means back in France or Monaco.

Do you think he'll score more than 1 goal v Huddersfield?

        If yes, pull the trigger.

If no, the transfer won't pay for itself.

Based on what I saw last week, I'd go for it, especially with his relatively low % ownership

      Anyone’s thoughts on
      Mendy -> Chilwell
      Mane -> Hojberg
      Ings -> Kane
      for a -8 hit?

I've just done Mendy and Auba to Chilwell and Kane for -4. The extra hit seems a bridge too far though...

      Repost

(sort of since some people think I should obviously double up on BOU and play Wilson, and others think I'd be crazy to do so, looking for more opinions)

I have Fraser, Mane and Mitrovic so will have to double up LIV, BOU or FUL,
      should I play:

      A) Wilson (CRY H)
      B) Schurrle (EVE A)
      C) Robertson (CHE A)

      ?

      1. MTPockets
          7 years, 3 months ago

          A. Would ignore the doubling up factor - just pick on own merit.

not really a fan of the Schurrle pick tbh, and I'm kinda assuming Liverpool concede especially if they are without VVD - so I'd play Wilson
