Even the most ardent Cardiff City and Burnley fan would admit that today’s sole Premier League fixture falls someway short of justifying the “Super Sunday” tag bestowed by a certain broadcaster.

Interest in the match is also minimal from a Fantasy Premier League point of view, with not a single player on show selected by more than 10% of FPL bosses.

James Tarkowski (£5.0m) and Joe Hart (£4.6m) are the two most-owned players taking to the pitch at the Cardiff City Stadium and will carry the hopes of 9.5% and 9.0% of FPL managers respectively of a second successive clean sheet following the 4-0 win over Bournemouth last weekend.

Tarkowski has two goals from set-pieces this season and both he and Ben Mee (£4.9m) – as well as dead-ball specialist Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.9m) – will be hoping to exploit their hosts’ weaknesses at set-play situations: Cardiff have conceded more attempts from free-kicks and corners as any other Premier League side in home matches in 2018/19.

Sean Dyche has unsurprisingly named an unchanged team from that hammering of the Cherries last Saturday, though the fit-again Steven Defour (£5.4m) makes his long-awaited return on the substitutes’ bench.

For Cardiff City, there are four changes, three of which are in attacking positions.

Josh Murphy (£4.8m) replaces Junior Hoilett (£5.2m) on the left flank, while Callum Paterson (£5.2m) will play just off striker Kenneth Zohore (£4.8m). Bobby Reid (£5.3m) and “out of position” midfielder Danny Ward (£4.5m), City’s erstwhile front two, drop to the bench.

Neil Warnock’s other change is enforced, with Sol Bamba (£4.5m) replacing the injured Lee Peltier (£3.9m). Bruno Ecuele Manga (£4.5m) thus moves across to right-back to accommodate Bamba’s return.

Bamba, indeed, is the only Cardiff outfielder starting today who is owned by more than 1% of FPL managers.

Neil Etheridge (£4.6m) is by far the Bluebirds’ most popular asset in FPL and sits level with Hart on 33 points in the game, having kept two clean sheets and made two penalty saves this season.

Cardiff have shipped 12 goals in their last three league matches, however.

Cardiff City XI (4-4-1-1): Etheridge; Bamba, Morrison, Ecuele-Manga, Cunningham; Camarasa, Ralls, Arter, Murphy; Paterson; Zohore.

Burnley XI (4-4-2): Hart; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Cork, Lennon; Vydra, Vokes.

Why on earth is the only game on Sunday. Any other game this weekend would’ve been better than this.

I am currently 17th overall for the month of September and I am the only one with just AWB and Fraser to go
8 Teams with no players left (Highest of which is 18 ahead of me)
4 With Just Fraser (Highest of which is 21 ahead of me)
1 With Just Zaha (1 ahead of me)
2 with Just AWB (2 ahead of me)
1 with AWB, PvA, Fraser and Zaha (4 ahead of me)

To Finish in the top ten and get some sort of prize would be immense and I believe still certainly possible.
To Finish Manager of the month I believe I need 22 from Wan-Bissaka, and then some combination by which Zaha and PvA have a mare to end all mares where they combine for -5 points.

Wish me luck! I've never been up this high for this to matter!

They are obligated to show every team a certain number of times - that’s collective bargaining. It makes sense to get two sides people won’t generally watch out of the way at the same time.

Playing around with a theoretical WC. I can do one of the following:

    Obiang, Maddy, Mane, Haz, Hojbjerg
    Mitri, Kun, Kane
    OR
    Sterling, Maddy, Mane, Haz, Son
    Mitro, Arnie, Zaha

Defense = Patricio, Fabi, Trippier, Alonso, TAA, AWB, Doherty

Where 2 load up cash - forwards or attacking mids?

    1. My Name Is Pepu

Where's all your cash going? You need to strike a balance and own atleast two of Haz/Kun/Kane (I have all 3 of them) and spread the funds elsewhere.

I currently have Haz and Kun, but am not loving how Kun's minutes are being managed. I also feel like good mids offer better value than forwards - you get the extra CS point and extra point for a goal.

Could be qualifying groups first. 6 teams per group play everybody home, away and neutral. Top four go through to groups of four. Top two go through to two legged knockouts. Final is best of 7 series.

    Quick opinion please lads:

I’m in the top 3k so pretty good start to the season, wildcard still intact and planning to use next week. Wondering if I’ve missed the boat on a short term Kane switch or if I should do

Salah and Ings -> Kane and Fraser this week for a hit? Don’t really have a good captain option if I don’t have Kane this week:

    Patricio foster
    AWB Trippier Alonso Shaw TAA
    Salah Hazard Richarlison Maddison Stephens
    Aguero Mitrovic Ings

    Cheers

Ok, ‘stand out’ option then. A bit worried about Kane exploding v Cardiff but no reason why Salah won’t convert some chances v Man City so veering away from the Kane punt atm.

This 'no reason why Salah won't score against Man City' was talked up before the Chelsea game too. The could haves/would haves won't help if the player constantly fails game after game.

Salah might or might not score against Man City but he's definitely no stand out option if you consider form + fixtures.

Go easy high flyer. I know Hazard is flying and all, but there is a good 4-5 seasons worth of sample size to suggest he is not. It's ok for people to be slightly circumspect.

Top points scorer in FPL currently.

Manager and pundits constantly talking him up and his newfound love for goals. Sarri has said that he thinks Hazard will hit the 40 goal mark this season.

What's in the past is in the past. He was form + fixtures as things stand and is definitely a stand out captaincy option this week apart from Kane.

I'm not disputing any of that. All well and good saying the past is in the past, but try letting go of 4 years of baggage in 6 weeks in any form of life. It takes time.

Ever care to remember how long it took so many to get on the Salah captain train last season? Even ask the best around here.

Two different scenarios. Salah was a PL flop retuning to the league.

Hazard is a proven pedigree and has been performing consistently well for his team season after season. I find it amusing that people fail to acknowledge how much a manager can influence a player. Hazard has been kind of unlucky to play under defensive managers like Conte and Maureen in the past. The fact that his current manager is giving him the license to go for the kill is all what matters apart from his consistent performances week in, week out.

I went against the popular notion and got Hazard in before the Bournemouth game and I have no regrets.

So what happened in the West Ham game that followed Bournemouth then? You captained him there too right after the haul? His pedigree is not in doubt. Stop arguing whatever it is you choose to argue. No one's saying don't bring him in. No one's doubting he'll improve his output under this manager. Pinpointing the fixtures where he's likely to haul has always been the issue. And for a captain, you need that extra bit of assurance.

I didn't captain him against West Ham because there were better captaincy options that week unlike this one or the week I captained him (against Cardiff).

I don't see any argument here. I simply see someone unable to acknowledge facts and opinions.

Lot of Knockaert love floating around here. The herd are lining up early for him.

Take a step back for a sec and remember, Brighton are not very good. They're fixtures are blue but look who they are playing. West Ham full confidence at the moment, Newcastle need a result and will have to turn things around sooner than later, everyone is getting Wolves defenders for a reason and Everton will be a very tough game for Brighton.

Think before you blindly transfer in a player like Knockaert into your team. Perhaps funds could be moved from somewhere else to upgrade.

I'm personally thinking Kun to Vardy and Fraser to 8m or less player. Anderson's positioning yesterday along side Arnie reminded of when Alli used to play as far forward as Harry Kane.

Just some food for thought, his name is being echoed far too much around here lately, I've been guilty of it myself, but looking closer at him, I'm not sure I'm convinced.

Yeah. Halftime needed for Burnley there.

Indeed. I benched Patricio’s 10 pointer to play Hart

Yeah but seems likely Hart gets a CS min. Won’t be much in it I’m sure. If I’d had Hart as well as Patricio, I would have done the same rather than double up on a Wolves defence which I hate doing (and was playing an in form Ings).

Half Time. Cardiff had a spell of dominance the last five minutes, but other than that, cant really call that stuff the players were doing as football.

Not even Craig Bellamy dare say it's watchable. 🙂

More importantly, where’s Diesel? His backing against Tiger worked! Not a single win!

No, Dusan was just one of my favourite FPL players, did so much for me in seasons long past. I’m from London but live in Los Angeles now.

Need to shave £1m to switch Aguero for Kane:

      A. Robertson > TAA
      B. Walker > Shaw
      C. Mane > Ozil/Son
      D. Richarlison > Knockaert/Moutinho

      Patricio
      Alonso - Trippier - Doherty - Rico - AWB
      Hazard - Mane - Richarlison - Schurrle - Billing
      Aguero - Lukaku - Wilson

      1 FT
      bank: 0.3

      A) Aguero ➡ Kane
      B) Shurrle & Lukaku ➡ Masuaku & Kane (-4)
      C) Mane & Lukaku ➡ Maddison & Kane (-4)
      D) Lukaku & Aguero ➡ Kane & Lacazette / Vardy (-4)
      E) give up on Kane for now
