Captains

Vote in the Gameweek 15 captain poll

Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool options are expected to all receive heavy backing in the Gameweek 15 captain poll.

You can now vote in that at the bottom of this article or on the sidebar of our website.

Defending champions Man City are away at Watford where they have scored 11 goals in their last two visits. Which of their assets emerges as the most popular captain choice could be dictated by team selection more than anything else.

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m), who missed the Gameweek 14 win over Bournemouth through injury, has scored five goals in his last two visits to Vicarage Road. Whether he will play in the match remains to be seen and all eyes will be on Pep Guardiola’s next press conference.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) is in scintillating form with four goals and four assists since Gameweek 11 and his ownership has ballooned to 18.5%. That should ensure he has plenty of support in the poll, but it will be interesting to see what impact his rotation risk could have. Such a quick turnaround between the Bournemouth and Watford matches could be just the justification Pep Guardiola needs to rest Sterling.

Leroy Sané (£9.4m) could also feature heavily considering his role in the Man City side. The recent injury to Benjamin Mendy has boosted his chances of starting matches so he may well retain his place. He has three goals and four assists in his last four appearances.

Alternatively, David Silva (£8.7m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) could prove interesting captain choices for those that own them. The fact that neither of them started against Bournemouth implies that they will be on the team sheet against Watford.

The uncertainty around Manchester City’s selection policy could be the reason that Harry Kane (£12.4m) receives a healthy share of this upcoming vote. There are no such concerns about rotation with the England captain and he now has a goal or an assist in each of his last four matches. He faces a Southampton defence that has averaged 2.29 goals conceded per away match this season.

Perhaps with the best fixtures match-up is Liverpool as they travel to test themselves against the 2018/19 whipping boys. Burnley have allowed more shots than any other side in the Premier League this season, even conceding a whopping 29 in their 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. Such numbers mean that Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Sadio Mané (£9.9m) will receive some consideration.

This is my team for next week after transfers:

    Ederson
    Alonso Robertson Digne
    Sterling Sane Martial Richarlison Brooks
    Kane Arnautovic

    (Button Jimenez AWB Doherty)

Would you take a hit for Martial to Son?

With Sergio Aguero ruled out at the weekend and a doubt for the mid-week game as City look to manage him through the busiest period of the season, a lot of managers are now turning to Harry Kane or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the north London clubs fixtures take a turn for the better, but which is the best option?

    The data for the last four gameweeks shows both players level on goals, but with Kane way ahead on shots and shots on target, though Aubameyang leads on chances created;

    Mins played: 360 | 342

    Goals: 3 | 3
    Shots: 19 | 12
    Shots in box: 10 | 8
    Shots on target: 12 | 3

    Assists: 1 | 1
    Chances created: 1 | 5

However, over the season, Aubameyang has two more goals in 221 less minutes, probably doesn’t need to worry about European commitments for a few months and is available for £1.4m less than Kane.

I’ve already made my move and have gone for the Spurs man, I just vastly prefer his midweek fixture and will likely hand him the armband for their Wembley date against a Southampton side that have conceded 16 goals away from home in the league this season and now find themselves under a temporary manager. Man United have their problems but I would fancy them to get themselves up for a big game and have the luxury of an extra days rest having played their weekend game on the Saturday. I also feel that Kane edges it on security of starts and I can always ‘downgrade’ to Aubameyang later on if it doesn’t go to plan.

Is anyone thinking of getting both? Would you rather just stick with Aguero? Maybe the best ploy is to go cheap up top and plough your funds into midfield? Where do you stand in the battle of the big hitting strikers?

Big believer that you use your (c) as a shield to protect against rank drops so need the popular captains. That suggests Kane this GW and get in Auba in GW16 to me.

      GW15: Kane (SOU)
      GW16: Auba (HUD)
      GW17: Kane (BUR)
GW18: Auba (BUR) / Sterling (CPL)
GW19: Salah (NEW) / Kane (BOU)
      GW20: Kane (WOL)
GW21: Auba (FUL) / Hazard (SOU)
GW22: Sterling (WOL) / Hazard (NEW)
      GW23: Salah (CPL)
GW24: Auba (CAR) / Kane (WAT)
GW25: Kane (NEW) / Hazard (HUD)

Certainly something to consider, but then Aubameyang has Southampton away (potential new manager bounce) whilst Kane has whipping boys Burnley at home...

Yep - so I will have Sterling, Kane and Auba as my three big hitters. That covers my captaincy for a good while barring injury and suspensions.

No - you set up you team to get the three big hitters who you will captain over a period of time. Up to now I have been Salah, Sterling and Hazard (for about 7 GWs) - has done well. But with the fixture shift I will switch to Kane, Auba, Sterling. It is about planning.......

I'm on a WC and currently have both. It does mean I can only get Sterling as a midfield big hitter though and that makes me nervous.

If I had to pick one I'd go Kane.

Both doesnt sound the best option to me. Think there is a lot more value in premium defenders & mids.

Siding with Kane atm as he's just a safer captaincy option and I need a captain for midweek.

Good write-up. I've gone Kane already, and those stats you've just provided only vindicate my decision. 12 to 3 shots on target is ridiculous.

Made the move to auba last night. Kane would have required a hit and I'm happy enough captaining Salah this Gameweek with a view to captaining Auba for Huddersfield at home.

Kane still looks below par to me and a penalty against Arsenal clouded another unthreatening performance. Going with the man in better form, don't care if he doesn't take as many shots because he looks clinical this season!

Went Auba. Kane just isn't passing the eye test for me and for better or worse I vowed not to get him again after than blank against Cardiff. I know he will score but I still think Auba will score a similar amount over the Xmas period. The money saved also allows me to get a stronger midfield (currently having billing coming off my bench isn't exactly providing adequate cover for inevitable rotations).

Great points. Auba definitely looks better from the eye test. It’s not just Kane vs Auba, it’s Kane vs Auba + 1.4m. For my team that meant I could updrade deulofeu to F.Anderson.

On WC and got both (with Arnie). Feels good going big up top and if it fails then there is always WC in the new year.

I've actually gone the other way (but kept 1.5m in the bank just in case) my thinking is Southampton + Leicester is about the same as Man U + Huddersfield atm when you take into account spurs will be thinking about Barca coming up.

I'm going to monitor them both over the next two, my thinking is if I need to upgrade it's one transfer, if I don't I can spend the money in one transfer. However if I wanted to downgrade Kane to Auba that's one transfer for that, and then one more to spend the money.

next 2 transfers will be with aim of freeing up funds elsewhere to get in Kane (have Auba this week)
Hazard will have to go and one of Murray or Arnie.

Went for Kane because didnt have one single v good captain option in my team for GW15. Never had Kane this season so happy enough to give him a chance now.

If he blanks (or meagre return while playing badly), easy downgrade to Auba.

If he delivers big, Im taking a -8 to add Auba.

I don't think both is viable if you also have a midfield heavy hitter like Sterling or Hazard or Salah. And I would prefer Sterling over both of these, so that limits it to one.

We all know about Kane, I'm still not convinced he's back to his best, although he's been a little better recently. I'm not convinced he's a reliable captain either, and at 12.4m, its tough to include him without captaining him very often. The Spurs congested fixture list is also a concern. the biggest factor against him in his midfield teammates though, I don't think I'd want any Arsenal midfield asset, whereas I see Son, Alli and Eriksen as genuine alternatives to Kane. Son possibly most preferred due to his cheap price which makes benchings/reduced minutes easier to take, and the fact he plays furthest forward alongside Kane (or has done recently, anyway)

Aubemayang is possibly the most bizarre fantasy asset I can remember of all time. He's seemingly become the premier league's top scorer without anyone noticing! I owned him for the first 3 gameweeks of the season for 3 straight blanks. Since then he's been shifted wide and had his minutes reduced for GW4-7, which led to an upturn in fpl returns, followed by being dropped entirely and bought on for 30 minute cameo's only for 2 games, which led to back to back hauls! He's since become a regular starter again, including the last 2 games at centre forward (in Lacazette's absence), and has scored well in that period. What I'm wondering is if with Lacazette back fit Auba is shifted out wide again? Because that may limit his returns. Also, Auba has only had 13 shots on target all season, and has scored 10 goals. That is mental. MENTAL.

So more questions than answers at this point. I'd like to have a look at all 3 of Kane, Lacazette and Aubemayang midweek before commiting to any one of them.

I am leaning towards getting in Auba and then bringing in Son as my Spurs coverage for Hazard, this also gives me enough funds to upgrade Fraser to Sane.

May risk Aguero for GW15 with Auba playing Man Yoo, and not wanting to take an 8 point hit to get in Auba, Son and Sane. Would rather spread the risk across two GW's. Son is deffo a differential captaincy option for this GW.

I've gone to Kane this week, for the good fixture. Then, I'll look to get in Auba in GW16, by downgrading Salah to Sane and Alonso to Luiz or Kolasinac. I don't fancy dropping Salah against Burnley this week.
That will give me Sane/Sterling/Aubameyang/Kane as premiums, with a slightly cheaper backline, only having Robertson above 6m.

          It'd be a forward line of Arnie/Kane/Auba from GW16.

the budget defence of Robbo/Doherty/Digne/Wan-B/Luiz, will be where I'm weakest to afford it -
I'm annoyed I lost 0.2 with Aguero's drop and Kane's rise because I was away this weekend, so I might not be able to afford Luiz by GW16 comes along

of the players u have i would suggest hazard but if u want to mix it up i would captain siggurdson. If u reaally want to captain a city asset go for it but i am suggesting a scenario that can easily happen not that it will happen

How would you plug these gaps?

    Fabianski (Stekelenburg)
    Robertson Alonso Duffy (Doherty Wanbissaka)
    Sterling Fraser Anderson _______ (Billing)
    Kane Arnie _______

    A. Richarlison and Aubameyang
    B. Sane and Wilson/Mitro
    C. Sane and David Silva (switch to 3-5-2)

I would not even double up on def until md22, i am clearing up all my liverpool assets for time being, spurs/man utd/everton better options due to very nice run of fixtures. also going for the likes of shaw, digne, keane instead of vvd and robbo frees a lot of cash to use for kane, auba, eriksen, sterling, etc.

    Fab 4.0
    Luiz TAA WanBissaka Balbuena 4.3
    Sterling Sane Felipe Richarlison Gundogan
    Kane Aubameyang Jiminez

I’ve wildcarded completely against my style but I feel really happy with this. Any problems? Would appreciate any tips!

Like it but defence a little light. Can you drop Gundogan and get Laporte in? Even better, upgrade TAA to Robertson AND get in Laporte, but you may not have the cash for that.

honestly i do not understand all this dumping of hazard, he is the best player in a team which should finish 3rd, unless he gets a month long injury he is not leaving my team until the end of the season. also people ditching him for city mids who will get shared minutes and even when they play, they will score more or less same as hazard. do not get me wrong i do like sterling and sane even more but not at the expense of hazard

    Thinking of WCing to:

    Hamer, Fab,
    Alonso, Doherty, VVD, Duffy, AWB,
Sane, Sterling, Richarlison, Felipe Anderson, Hojbjerg,
    Jimenez, Arnie, Kane

Thoughts? tempted to lose Sterling so I can bring in an Arsenal forward and maybe a Spurs defender?

    Thanks.

3 options - I need some consensus as my own brain is now fried thinking about this!

    A) Kun > Auba (FT)
    B) Kun, Haz > Auba, Son (-4)
    C) Kun, Haz > Auba, Sterling (-4)

    Current team:

    £0.4 itb 1 FT
    Fab
    Alonso, Robbo, Duffy, Schindler
    Salah (C), Haz*, Sané, Fraser
    Kun*, Wilson
    (Foster) (Doherty, Diangana, Success)

I have my WC and will play it probably GW17 if that helps!
Obviously options A and C have no Spurs for the SOU fixture but can't decide if they really are essential or can wait for a WC

    Thanks in advance

Is it worth getting Sterling if you plan to own Kane and Auba and switch (C) between them? I think if I own both Kane and Auba better option is Sane which helps in having one of Hazard/Salah still in a decent team.

Any thoughts on which of these combo's look good for my GW16 wildcard ??

    1) Richiarlson + Jiminez (Rich fixtures stink til GW19, Wolves seem wobbly)
    2) Mitrovic + Perrarya (great fixtures for both, Perrarya lacking form?)
    3) Mitrovic + cheapo mid, like Cairney + 1,4 to invest elsewhere

I'm struggling to find a decent combo of form and fixtures in the mid priced midfielders and am leaning towards the 3rd option, and get Richiarlson back as and when it's necessary
