Captains

Captain Sensible – All eyes on in-form Kane for Gameweek 15

It’s all change for Fantasy Premier League managers as Gameweek 15 looms large.

This is when the fixtures begin to swing in the direction of Tottenham and Arsenal and that has already had an effect on the captain debate.

We’ve taken a look at both the popular options and those most likely to do well in the midweek action in this latest article.

Captain Poll

Harry Kane (£12.4m) looks poised to go into Gameweek 15 as the runaway Fantasy Football Scout captain poll winner. At the time of writing the Tottenham man had a 42% share of the vote ahead of Southampton’s visit to Wembley on Wednesday night. The last time he was the most popular candidate was when they hosted Cardiff in Gameweek 8 – his owners will be hoping for a better showing than his blank against the Bluebirds.

A long way off in second place is Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who has a 15% share of the vote. Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend and are expected to waltz to victory considering the form their hosts are in. The Clarets have allowed more shots than any other side this season which should afford Salah plenty of chances to finally get his second double-figure haul of the campaign.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) looks set to finish the poll in third place, as the most popular of the Manchester City options. He is the top-scoring player in all of FPL right now so there’s so surprise that he’s ahead of his colleagues in this vote. Some might have expected him to have garnered more than 9% support, but it appears the voters are aware of his rotation risk. An away match against Watford looks like one in which Sterling can certainly deliver but the fact that he played the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth does reduce his risk of starting this one – and that is reflected in his percentage share here.

Interestingly, Marko Arnautovic (£7.1m) is up next as he faces Cardiff City on Tuesday night. His 5.67% share of the vote is higher than Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) who trails behind the main group with 4.5%. There is considerable doubt over whether he will even start against Watford with his recent muscular injury, but he has also been so poor away from home too.

Despite emerging as a potential alternative to Kane in the minds of some Fantasy managers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) is lagging well behind in the captain poll. Just 3.49% of voters are considering handing him the armband this weekend even though he faces a leaky Manchester United defence at Old Trafford. Callum Wilson (£6.8m), who faces Huddersfield, is ahead of him on 3.81%.

Eden Hazard (£11.0m) and Sadio Mané (£9.9m) are even further behind with just 1.95% and 1.74% backing respectively.

Yeah, I’m on a WC and got rid of Arnie for Aubameyang. Felt Anderson and Fab is enough.

Interested to see if Chicorito gets further game time after his brace.

Currently got 0.9 itb and debating a bit of a differential move, for context I already have Salah Auba and Sane as premiums.

The move would be Hazard and Fraser to:

    A) Son and Silva (2 premium rather than one high one cheap)
    B) Sterling and Fraser
    C) Stick

A looks very tempting with the fact I don’t have Kane (even if cover is a myth...)

I am a bit confused on Laca/Auba selection. I would appreciate if somebody lighten me a bit on below questions:

    1) Lacazette started to all matches between GW3 ad GW12 and played in the central role. The only reason he was not involved in GW13 and started from the bench in GW14 was injury?

    2) Do we expect him to start against Manu tomorrow (or in the weekend against HUD at the latest)?

    3) When both on the pitch, who is the penalty taker?

    1. Tshelby
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 4 months ago

I think Laca is still more nailed over Auba and yeah the reason was the injury. Don't know if it ever happend that they got a penalty with both on the pitch?

      1. Bunk Moreland
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 4 months ago

It did happen. Last year in April Auba and Laca played together vs Stoke. Auba took the first pen, then he gave the second pen to Lacazette.

They are both good penalty takers and I would expect them to share duties depending on who is feeling the most confident or alternately, as against Stoke, who needs/deserves a goal.

    2. danishdynamite
      • 13 Years
      5 years, 4 months ago

I’m in the same boat as you: when Laca has been fit he’s more often than not started as striker.

Quite how they’ll line up when they’re both fit ...... dunno.

      Auba’s form though: damn

      1. Runaway
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 4 months ago

Indeed Auba form is incredible, but to bring in together with Kane, Laca seems a better fit for the team balance depending on the questions above.

        1. danishdynamite
          • 13 Years
          5 years, 4 months ago

          True that

I'm finding, however, that it "only" breings balance to the defence, as there are so few options in mid-priced midfielders

Fandersen is a shoe in, and while Richiarlson has decent games in 15 & 16, it's ugly as hell in 17/18, picking up a bit with two winable away games in 18/19.

So to cheap midfielder place holders for a 433 (Sterling / Sane / Fandersen) and it's all about who can be squeezed into the back 4. WIth Alonso in there, it makes a world of difference to have Laca over Auba

      2. Tshelby
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 4 months ago

I went for Auba but if you compare them in the member area there is not much between them. Before the spurs game Laca his stats were better. Only thing is that Auba is so consitent and can easily score two or more and that's not a feeling I have with Laca

    3. Bunk Moreland
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 4 months ago

Generally, when a player just gets back from injury and the team has other solid options, the player gets eased back. I think Lacazette will be on the pitch in both the next matches, but with reduced minutes.

Think you can get results from having either one – both are doing great so far this season. Just went with Auba because I had the opportunity to do so, but I'm toying with the idea of having both (even though it's risky).

    6. TAT
      • 6 Years

      1) Yeah, I'd think so. When Unai has two great strikers to choose from, he had the option to use Lacazette as a impact player, while still managing his game time. Unau couldn't have done better team management there.

      2) I think he'll play both matches. For the reasons above, I think Unai want Lacazette to manage playing all three games (Sp*rs, United and Huddersfield) – hence him only playing 45 mins.

      3) Isn't it Lacazette who has incredible stats from the penalty spot (before Arsenal too)? I actually think Lacazette is the penalty taker, but with him and Auba's bromance, I think they just sort that out between themselves – like we've seen already.

      1. Runaway

        According to transfermarkt:

        Auba: 22/29 (2/3 in PL)

Nice. I think Laca will be the main man on penalties. There was media talk about him being good from the penalty spot before he signed too – but as stats show there isn't much between them. As an Arsenal fan I just hope they both go on massive hauls in December!

Thanks mate, haven't written much later as I've been so frustrated with myself. I just don't think there's enough upside. Laporte would be picking up bonus each week in any other team but hardly has a sniff in this MCI team. Now that he's 6.1 I don't think it's worth it personally.

I see. Yeah you are probably right, he ticks along nicely but it's maybe not too far ahead of what three budget defenders in a good rotation could do.

Don't worry about writing every week, you laid down some important groundwork in your first posts and those helped me out a lot. After that it's been interesting seeing you apply those "principles" (not the right word but you get what I'm saying) in your own team.

Your OR must be very good still, 800something at the last update and when you wildcard and get some city mids I think you'll climb again.

The only risk is that if City does less than five goals in one game! 😉

    Is Mane to :

    1. Sane

Did Mane to Sterling for -4.
I feel all are worth a hit. Sane out of those.

Depends rest of the team but most likely it is: Son maybe if he is sure starter? Eriksen having that kind of on going injury so avoiding him. Sane rotation threat...

Is it beter to get VVD on wc or risk with one of TAA/Robbo?

Robbo and TAA will end up with points. If you are WCing you should be having a good backup if they do get rested. I'd pick Robbo over any Liverpool defender.

True. Robbo can get attacking returns + BAPS and there is always automatic sub to kick in. It is so important to have decent bench now around Christmas.

    Thoughts on this WC?

    Fab
    Alonso, Robbo, TAA
    Sane, Sterling, Son, Anderson
    Laca, Wilson, Arnie

    Subs: Hamer, Richarlison, VVD, AWB

VVD will become Trippier when back from injury.

It is, VVD to cover Robbo today in case he is injured, but will become Trippier when he's available.

Too much money on the bench. Yes you should get a good bench but Richarlison and VVD can both easily be downgraded to upgrade Laca to Auba. Rich could be Brooks and VVD could be Doherty/Digne/Keane.

I hear what you're saying, I'm really planning for the Xmas period to cover rotation and restings. For example if Robbo is I hired today it means VVD off the bench (=good chance of returns), if sterling is rested as may happen tonight then I have Richarlison off the bench to cover. I'm not sure Auba is going to return a huge amount more than Laca, who shares pens and plays slightly further forward.

Is Salah being overlooked for captaincy this GW because everyone has the Kane blinkers on? Just because you transfer a premium attacker in for plum fixtures, doesn't mean you're obliged to immediately give them the armband.

Salah has Burnley and they have been absolutely horrendous defensively. They made Zaha (who could easily have scored a hat-trick) look like Messi. It's hard to imagine anything but the Burnley goal being peppered for 90 minutes - do you not want to be on Salah hoping/betting that he finally delivers that big haul? Extra point for a goal, a point for the inevitable clean sheet, more assist potential than Kane ... I'm going Salah (C) and if it backfires I can live with it. Kane (VC).

          He cant be mentioned more

WILDCARD what do you think please?

    Fabianski
    Alexander - Arnold | Laporte | Wan-Bissaka
    Sterling | Richarlison | Salah | Fraser
    Wilson | Kane | Arnautovic

    Subs - Speroni | Dunk | Diangana | Bennett

Next week I will do a -4 Salah, Fraser & Wilson >>>>> Auba, Mane & £5.2mil sub midfielder???

I'd just get Auba, Mane and 5.2 mil (Brooks) now. Also it will be a -8pts, you only get 1 FT after a WC.
