Captains

Vote in the Captain Poll for Gameweek 17

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur options are likely to be the first port of call for the captaincy in Gameweek 17.

Both sides have favourable home fixtures to look forward to, with the defending champions hosting an Everton side with just one clean sheet on the road this season.

Predicting the Pep Guardiola roulette will as ever complicate matters with Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) and Leroy Sané (£9.5m) perhaps the most likely to start.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m), who has three goals and two assists in his last five starts, stands an outside chance of inclusion, while a return to full fitness of Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) would make him a strong candidate too.

No player has had more shots in the box in home matches this season than the Argentinian striker.

Spurs options are sure to be considered this week as they host a Burnley side that has been defensively troubled this season.

The Clarets remain bottom of the league for goal attempts and shots in the box allowed meaning that Harry Kane (£12.5m) will have plenty of opportunities to score at Wembley.

With his Gameweek 16 rest out of the way, the talismanic striker should be in line to start against Burnley, although Fantasy managers were fairly assured he would feature from the beginning at Leicester.

In his place at the King Power Stadium was Son Heung-min (£8.5m), whose 14-point haul took his average since Gameweek 13 to 8.75 points per game.

Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) may also get a look in if he looks as if he will return to the starting line-up. The injury problems for Kieran Trippier continue to play into the Danish international’s hands as he looks to have reclaimed set-piece responsibilities.

It will be interesting to see if Mohamed Salah‘s (£13.0m) hat-trick against Bournemouth will influence his backing this week. Liverpool host Manchester United, who typically try a defensive style of play when they visit Anfield with Jose Mourinho in charge, but the Red Devils have just two clean sheets this season.

That defensive vulnerability could lead to owners of Sadio Mané (£9.7m), Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.1m) or Roberto Firmino (£9.2m) considering them for the captaincy too.

Those who have still held onto Eden Hazard (£10.9m) may also be looking at him for Chelsea’s trip to Brighton. The Belgian has consistently returned points in the last three Gameweeks, a total of 20 in his last three matches from four assists.

Arsenal’s trip to Southampton could also yield some options with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.5m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) the most likely to take advantage of the Saints.

Brooks > Gundogan FT a decent option here?

    Fab
    Alonso - TAA - Doherty
    Sterling - Hazard - Sane - Gundogan*
    Kane - Chica - Jimenez

    AWB - Bennett - Stephens

Still have my WC so can afford a short term punt.

Also will be owning 3 City MF's these next 2 GW's (Sane, Sterling, B.Silva), Gundogan always seems to do well when he starts, could work out but Brooks' next 2 Fixtures are also nice

I wouldn't move any Man C midfielders in or out until after GW18 when we should know how KdB fits back into the side. The situation at the moment is unclear.

this was my plan actually, I'm just upset about dilva's absence and its possible affecet on sane and sterling. my primary plan was to keep them until gw20 where I will finally use my WC and probably continue with just Sterling as a man.city assets. thanks for the advice

If KdB replaces Dilva I can't see Gundogan getting much game time as DdB plays the entire 90 mins usually. But Pep might think otherwise.

Thoughts on the following players being nailed over the medium-term:

    A: Kolasinic
    - i think 50%. No idea what the impact of monreal will be.
    - if 3-5-2, then kola def plays. unsure about when he moves to back 4

    B: Kiko Femenia
    - i think 75%. Has done well in place of janmaat who is his only competitor. however, i read somewhere that janmaat is returning from injury
    - if so, dont think its worth having him in on my WC despite watford's good fixtures

    C: Chambers
    - OOP. playing in midfield recently
    - good stats with shots on target but i think its impossible to know if he will play continuously.

Was looking for cheap defenders but keep coming back to Schindler, Balbuena, and Awb. Anyone else i might have missed??

Throwing in Rice into the equation. Kind of overlooked. Defender playing midfield. Pretty much a guaranteed starter. West ham have a good run and has the potential to pick up some clean sheets. Also has the potential to nick a goal or 2 as he goes in for corners. Currently 4.4

With West Ham firing and their fixtures looking good are you looking seriously at a double up? In attack or defence?

For me, West Ham have been a little disappointing defensively and I hoped for more from Fabianski but I'm happy to hold. For those of with Fab and Balbuena: are you looking to hold both?

In attack Felipe Anderson looks like a great buy right now and Chicharito is beginning to show signs that he could be a good pick for their upcoming fixtures; and then there's Snodgrass with attacking returns in 3 straight. Is anyone considering three attacking players? Does the price of Snodgrass, or of Chicharito, sway you?

With the next 5 against bottom 9 teams, including 3 of the bottom 4, are there any signs that West Ham will slow down?

West Ham can beat anyone, but they can also lose to anyone. Such an unpredictable team. I’ve gone for Chica as a differential and I’ve owned Fabianski for going on 3 years now 😀 high hopes but low expectations

Got in Snoddy last week and already have Fab and Anderson. Certainly holding at those price points.

Not sure i'd have an attack triple up, or that i'd pick Chicarito over Snoddy/Anderson.

Currently on WC, owner of Fab from the beginning. Considering Chicha for 2nd striker and Felipe or Snodgrass for 5th midfielder. It will depend whom on whether I choose Mane or Sterling. So I am tripling up on West Ham's assets.

Optimistic caution is what I'm practicing. Fabianski and Anderson is enough Hammers cover for my liking. If Fab has got to where he has with the poor defensive record so far then he shouldn't do any worse in the next 6 GWs. Anderson seems to have found his feet and is a cracking buy at the moment. Also, there is only really Richarlison in his price bracket who can compete against his game time and potential.

Had a treble till Arnie injury.

F Anderson has been great for me but I'm saddled with Obiang from GW7 WC. Would make the Fab transfer if I ever had a spare but unlikely...

    11. Deulofail

When their fixtures turned for the better, I immediately tripled up with Arnautovic, Anderson and Antonio. I then switched to Snodgrass, Anderson and Antonio. And now I'm going shift Antonio on for a City or Spurs mid. I'd like to be able to swap him for Chicharito, but the boat has sailed for me after upgrading Arnautovic to Lacazette. In hindsight, perhaps Chicharito was the player I was looking for.

With their run of fixtures, and attacking bent, I see nothing wrong with a triple up with those three players, besides potential rotation issues. I think all three players are better value than the 6.0-7.0 mids at the start of the game, who I've avoided until Anderson, and that's thanks to the fixtures.

Fabianski is a good choice, but I wouldn't be keen to use a FT on a GK unless it was necessary. Balbuena is probably one of the best value defenders at the moment. His stats are very nice for the price; it's only the CSs he needs to improve 😀

Don’t say it too loudly... but - could this be the right time to hop off the Bournemouth bus?

      Fraser & Wilson > Snodgrass & Chicharito

Also frees up about 0.7m in cash...

I would do it, but I would take a 0.9m TV hit, so this could be a really good example of where it should be points over pounds

I'm actually looking at a triple up! (temporarily). Anderson passes the eye test even if his stats are poor. Plus his ownership is getting hard to ignore, combined with such strong fixtures its brave to go without him over the next few gameweeks. chicharito stats are exceptional, so is potentially a strong differential. I own Balbuena but their defence is dreadful, I wouldn't advice anyone to get him or any of the others. I'll be ditching him in 2 weeks time for Digne.

Hammers fan here and tickled that after being the brunt of PL and FPL jokes to start the year (our opening fixtures were nightmarish) there's now so much interest in West Ham players. But the team is starting to play much better despite the massive injuries.

I've got Fab and looking to bring in an attacker soon (not for a hit).

I'd do Ederson > 4.5 and go kola/bellerin instead of Bennett

also pep said aguero could make the matchday squad, he could easily be on the bench

wait for pressers on friday as a bare minimum

    I have no city attackers...

    A) Salah --> Sterling
    B) Kenedy --> Gundogan
    C) Richarlison --> Bilva
    D) Save FT and do Auba and Kenedy to Sterling and Success next week? ( and pray city don't score loads against everton)

Will Gundgan's minutes be affected by KdB's return? Bear in mind that Dilva was being protected minute wise and KdB usually plays the full 90, will Gundogan be the one who suffers?

I dont know but it would only be a short term option.. dont think KDB will go straight back in to doing full 90 mins

Anyone with Sterling and Kane captaining Sterling this weekend? I brought Kane in 2 GWs knowing I'd definitely captain him this GW. Now having both him and Alli as Spurs cover and a crucial CL match in midweek after which Spurs will definitely be knackered (and most probably devastated from the elimination), I am worried they produce a lethargic display as they have done in easy games after midweek CL games before. My reasoning is if Spurs score big against Burnley, I have Kane and Alli who will most probably have a big chunk of the points so I will be alright there even if I miss out on doubling on a Kane haul but I avoid these annoying 2 pointers from him. On the other hand, I only have Sterling as City cover, City will score 3 or more against Everton and Sterling will probably be in the points. It is even a good GW to have Sertling(c) as a differential. If I only had Kane as Spurs cover it would be an easy decision.

Anyone with double Spurs cover thinking along same lines?

Between Kane and Sterling for me, may go for Kane as from this GW I'll have Sterling/Sane/B.Silva, wouldn't know which City asset to (C).

I'd captain Kane in your case which is the opposite of mine. If City score 3 or more, you should get most points covered.

Spurs have got a good few days to rest. I think Son is probably the most motivated given he goes away in Jan and probably wants to repay the team with good performances. I've brought in Son and Kane I think either would be good (c) choices for the weekend both are showing consistency.

I was considering until I heard that dilva's certain to miss this gw. Now I fear that it's gonna take a lot more for city to find the first goal thus I don't expect a 4-0/5-0 game, and this thought gets me closer to kane(c) again (which worked amazingly well for me in gw8 kane(c) vs cardiff )

Are many keeping Aguero or looking to back back for maybe a double up with Kane or Aubameyang.. My thoughts are in the triple Man City Attack, not sure about tripling up the mdf, I have Sterling Sane but no other real stand options

Is this a terrible more for free?

      Fab - Button
      Robbo, TAA, Luiz, Doherty, AWB
      Hazard, Sterling, Mane, Anderson, 4.3
      Auba, Wilson, Jiminez

Is the team. Could keep it simple and do Mane > Eriksen or Son. Reason MGW is because I'm convinced Nuno should be starting him and if he plays he'll be involved in points

  28. Bat Man
    • 6 Years
    5 years, 4 months ago

    1 FT 1.7 ITB

    Ryan Button
    Alonso Doherty TAA Balbuena Bennett
    Salah Sterling Rich Fraser Billing
    Kane Wilson Jiminez

Any glaring moves? Considering Fraser to Felipe but that seems like a luxury transfer. I could do Ryan Ederson or save too.

    1. Arfaish
      • 11 Years

Ryans coming fixtures are horrific, could easily go the next 7 without a clean sheet so id be looking to ship him out now. Id consider Kepa as well as ederson over that next period of 6 games. Ederson if you want long term set and forget.
