  1. Sane v Sterling for the armband

Thoughts on City: would never feel comfortable captaining Sterling or any of them for that matter. Rotation always imminent with Pep and for those arguing ‘Sterling plays 90 or 0’, this has only been the case due to the foregone result in those fixtures.

I think Sane is a far superior pick to Sterling. Nailed without Mendy on the left and Pep has already alluded to Mahrez competing for Sterling’s position on the right flank. Sane has a better points per minute, better hauls and is over 2 million cheaper!

Sané has not started 7 PL games so far and got hooked before 60 in the last one.

Sterling has something like 20 more points than him.

You kinda contradict yourself in that comment. You say rotation is imminent but also say Sane is nailed without Mendy. He's not nailed because Sterling can also play in his position.

@Nascimento - if you read the OP the concern is not with owning city assets, it’s with captaining them. And it is a very valid concern.

There is no reason to sell city assets, but avoid captaining imo

Agreed completely about the Sterling plays 90 or 0 rubbish. People keep going on about this and stating it as fact. Obviously he isn't going to come on if City are 3-0 up but if they're drawing or losing in the second half of course Pep will bring him on.

By your logic, Sterling is way better than Salah. Much cheaper with almost equal returns. (Sane is not even close to Sterling.) Those holding Salah must be nuts.

There was no "foregone result" in the latest game where Sterling stayed on the bench. The score was 2-1 in an away game. Sterling has 12 ppg in home games...

      You should have both anyway.

Thank you for your insights. It is always good to discuss some City assets and try to guess Pep’s next move.

Despite agreeing with the most you mentionned, I have to say I still consider Sterling a great FPL asset. Crucial in City’s attacking procedures, both in creating chancea to assist and scoring goals. He’ll get some rotation, for sure, yes, but when he plays he usually delivers a good performance.

Sane... I was convinced on shipping him out and bring Bernardo in this GW, but it just feels wrong in fact. With Mendy out and with a great form and motivation, I agree he is a very good ond to own as well. You consider him nailed mate?

      Cheers

This was my take on same from a few days ago:

      Man City's fixture run:

I'd be struggling to guess which games Sterling starts vs. which he's benched, and also wouldn't want to rely on Pep not subbing him on in the games he's benched...

Any fellow Sterling owners getting concerned at this from a captaincy perspective? Would you be comfortable captaining him for Palace for example with the notes below??

With Ville Ronka for example, having no City attack, or outfield players and absolutely storming up the rankings - has he cottoned onto this early in avoiding them? Are they a rotation graveyard in waiting?

Hoffenheim (Home) 12th Dec - CL [If City lose, they may not win group - so strong team needed?]

      3 days rest

Everton (Home) 15th Dec - PL [Probably strongest team needed - bounce back from Chelsea]

      3 days rest

Leicester (Away) 18th - LC [Qtr final - so strong team?]

      4 days rest

Palace (Home) 22nd - PL ['Easy' home game - rest/rotation?]

      4 days rest

Leicester (Away) 26th - PL ['tougher' away game - strong team needed?]

      4 days rest

Southampton (Home) 30th - PL ['Easy' home game - rest/rotation? - especially with Liverpool 3 days later?]

      4 days rest

      Liverpool (Home) 3rd - PL

      3 days rest

Rotherham (Home) 6th - FA Cup

So much congestion! Sterling is fantastic, but I just don’t think I could give him the armband. Very surprised about Ville Ronka, but it’s like Crabtree winning in 15/16 by avoiding Liverpool. Points and minutes sharing

If Sterling is benched midweek for example, are we really saying he's going to be an unreliable option at home to Palace on the weekend?

Get it if they've played a few consecutive games etc (like Sane this weekend) but Sterling will not miss two in a row, he's far too important to City.

That’s a key factor - the league cup lineup.

If lastbyear was anything to go by, Pep will field a strong XI for the cup, leaving the palace game in doubt

Southampton game then is 3 days before Liverpool so same issue

I've got both and I'm worried about Mahrez ruining the party for me captain wise. I'm just happy to own both for now, I captained sane twice recently when I felt he had more chance of playing but currently I feel it's safer going with a more nailed player like hazard/Kane etc...boring as that may be.

Nah, your head seems clouded for some reason. And no, OR has nothing to say for a discussion in a forum, that is just a Trumpish technique of winning a debate.

      I'll give my reasoning.

"Sterling plays 90 or 0" is just as likely to happen if you just look at the 2018/19 history as "Sane will play all matches where Mendy is unavailable". Because so far it has happened that way. We have no way of knowing which of these will fail first, and imho both will fail within the next month. So perhaps we should change to "both are just as UNlikely to happen".

"...this has only been the case due to the foregone result in those fixtures" is guesswork. You have no idea of knowing what Pep thinks, more than the rest of us here. We can all play a guessing game, and my guess today is that Sane's minutes per match is falling the more he plays, hence he will soon play only one half. Not likely, still a guess based on some stats.

Sane and Sterling are both good picks. Sane has more points per minute, but he plays less minutes each match, and Sterling has more points per match. We DO still play this game by the match, and not by the minute, I reckon. Hence, Sane being "far superior" to Sterling is biased and not supported by anything else you say. Yes, the price is lower, but that doesn't mean he will score more. Better hauls means less stable, and some would say that means a more risky captain option.

You are perfectly welcome to give us your thoughts. However, you seem to overlook the fact that you're arguing with feelings and loaded adjectives, as well as attacking those who disagree in the comments. If you give me more stats or facts to support your argument, you might even convince me in the future ^^

      Good luck!

100% on overall rank, even the scout cast covered it this week.

That season that leicater won the league, consistently top finishers were wildly out of sync, imagine if we ignored them because of where they finished last season!

Re Sane and sterling, I’m happy with Sane that I brought in, he delivers mostly. sterling I feel is a case of if you have keep if you don’t, don’t buy. He will mix the hauls with rotation to take the good with he bad.

Both are good options, imho. And as I think most here agree on - Pep rotation roulette might go in Sane's favour, or it might go in Sterling's. We just do not know for sure.

Captain one. Just put the VC on a player as nailed as can be. Auba this week for instance. This HT has already been bludgeoned to death time and again. It's boring now. Pep rotates, who knew.

If you have both and are captaining one, I'd vice captain the other one. If one plays 0 mins, the other is likely to play more mins. That's what I'm doing with Laca and Auba this and last week. And I'm not worried about it getting snowed off, either 😀

I fail to see how my head is ‘clouded’. I posted some genuine thoughts based on statistics and concerns over captaining fantastic City assets in isolation, but who may not be the most logical decisions for the armband to do well in FPL.

The only reason I countered others comments was due to their arguements which were based purely on personal team bias and a suggestion of ‘trolling’ to genuine discussion.

Rank is extremely important and I think it pertinent to consider the success of other managers when taking on board advice.

This place has turned into such a hostile environment and I never anticipated this to be a hot topic. May be a good time to concentrate on rank rather than helping others.

        1. Stat Sloth
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

Your thoughts are not more valid if others can find statistics that tell you otherwise. It is your idea of being more right than others that feels a little demeaning.

I would also say that you inherit a bias, as I could counter your arguments above, even though you were so certain of your point. I am also not without a bias, as this is a game where we follow preferences, and some of us even have feelings toward certain teams ^^ (Not being aware of own bias = clouded imho)

Rank is important if that is what you aim for. Many of us, though, care much more about mini-league performances than overall rank ^^

Forums are hostile or friendly, depending on what you talk about, and how you phrase yourself ^^ If you did not use OR as a reason for why you are more right than others, perhaps this thread would not have become as "hostile" as you think it is. The OR comment was the reason why I chose to type here, at least ^^

They might not be the best defence in the league when he’s in it (and with upcoming fixtures).

Lovren is the Ozil in defense. Plays 1 good game and stays at home for the next 2. But given his price that is OK. With Ozil it's not OK.

Kolasinac is good option but im worried about GW20:
Robbo vs Arsenal home - can play him
Alonso vs CP away - can play him
Doherty vs Spus away - not so good
AWB vs Chelsea home - not so good
Kolasinac vs Lpool away - not so good

Having had my Aguero/Silva axis broken up, who is most essential this week? Can’t help thinking Kane is more of a certainty and another hatty waiting to happen? Trouble is that only leaves me 7.1 to replace Silva and next to no City cover..

2 FTs & wildcard if it all goes wrong

    Doherty Laporte Robertson
    Salah Hazard SILVA Richarlison

Which move here looks best in your eyes please? Yedlin suspended for this week only. A would leave funds to upgrade Maddison next week with Leicester facing Chelsea & Man City GW's 17 & 18 this could be wise? B means a Chelsea defensive double up and no upgrade funds for Maddison week after. C means playing one of AWB or Bennett this week but gives 2FT's week after and Yedlin will be back anyway. Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks.

Is it better to get the best defender available by a transfer (Duffy > Luiz, leave 0.9ITB) or to save funds by doing Duffy > Schindler (2.1ITB), so I might upgrade Jiménez or Schurrle soon.

Thinking the former because I still have my WC in hand

Thinking of a hit to get rid of Martial, options that spring to mind are:
Anderson (great fixtures and form but double with chocharito)
    Sane (rotation risk, middling fixtures)
    Son (rotation risk, good fixtures)
    Richardson (form, but poor fixtures)
Still have wildcard so is a short term decision, any thoughts? Cheers all

Short term I would skip richarlison. I actually really like Anderson short term couldn’t ask for better fixtures and he has the form to go with it. Safer from rotation than son or sane and leaves you money to fix something elsewhere too
