Earlier in the season Dimitar Berbatov almost prompted me into using my precious Wildcard. A sublime hat-trick at home to Liverpool sent the pulse racing and the urge to tinker seemed overwhelming. The Bulgarian looked irresistible and, having been handed a modest price tag in the Fantasy Premier League game, almost essential.

Thoughts gathered, I managed to keep the knee from jerking and my Wildcard remained intact. I spent the Gameweeks that followed thanking my lucky stars that I’d resisted as Berbatov, without the influence of Wayne Rooney alongside him, struggled to recall similar form. He proved to be anything but essential.

Today, the day I actually did throw my FPL Wildcard into the ring, the Berbatov bomb exploded once more. Five goals in a 7-1 mauling of Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford will grab the headlines on day when the Premier League went off the rails – 36 goals in total – not a clean sheet in sight. Madness…

Such insanity can be problematic for Fantasy Managers. The irony of such an avalanche of goals and such an individual performance on the day I play my Wildcard is not lost on me. In many ways I’m relieved; my tinkering itch has been well and truly scratched in the last 24 hours – the urge for more squad surgery is exhausted.

For others, probably thousands of others, Berbatov’s incredible performance and record FPL points haul will doubtless lead to one of the biggest bandwagons in memory. Tonight the scalpels will be out, hurried calculations will be made, points hits considered, more sleep lost. Berbatov has once again caused a big stir in our community. Not bad for a player who is often accused of failing to break sweat on the pitch.

And no, I didn’t sign Berbatov with my Wildcard but I’m happy enough regardless. My day and my Wildcard was anything but spectacular, but I’m content enough to opt out of the frenzy that Berbatov will cause and for that, I’m thankful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I am gonna send an e-mail to FPL too:

    1. Definitely N'Zog assist, and I am desperate for the pionts to stop my alarming slide

    2. Fabianski's was not an assist - it touches one of the Villa defenders before it get to Arshavin.

Just did it a minute ago 🙂

      Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing regarding the points allocation in the match West Ham - Wigan. Apparently, there should be an assist given to Charles N'Zogbia. In the case of Wigan's goal, he made the last pass to Cleveley who scored the goal. It is clear from the following video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9oRJDOpHW4 (it is a shortcut from the BBC Match of the Day).

It can be seen in the video that N'Zogbia made the last pass with his left leg before Cleverley got the ball.
According to the rules, no assist is given if during the last pass "an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball". As it is obvious from the video, the last pass was made by N'Zogbia with his left leg. The defender did not touch the ball after that. Hence, Charles N'Zogbia should be rewarded with an assist.

      Best wishes,
      Vlad

      Dear FPL,

I am writing to ask if you can review the Wigan goal in this weekend's fixture against West Ham. I am aware that such reviews take place, and having seen the goal a few times, for me N'Zogbia clearly has the final touch before Cleverley scores the goal. A clear assist in my book.

I would also like you to review the assist given to Fabianski for Arshavin's first goal for Arsenal against Aston Villa. For me, Luke Young touches the ball between Fabianski's kick and Arshavin collecting the ball and scoring. You can see a clear deflection as it passes him. I therefore suggest that no assist should be given for this goal.

Thank you for taking time to read this message. I hope it has been of assistance.

      Regards,
      Phil.

That's the point though. I don't like the idea of having a more expensive front 8 of players as you'll have to grudgingly drop at least one every week. I'd prefer to have a decent cheapie as bench fodder to play when he has the odd favourable game, and use the extra money on defense.

The only reason I'd consider shipping Barton is because I have 3 Toon, which is too much for a team of that calibre. I'd drop Simpson before him though.

Sorry to rain on your little parade, but I'm not gutted at all.

            I'm on 29 with N'Zog's assist to come and 4 players + Drogba (c).

If he's fit enough he will but he's hardly been in form recently either. Olsson is the other option but he's not been fit and is a bit suspect defensively (obviously not in the same league as that complete muppet chumpbonda)

not called off in russia....why called off here....sigh.

if the ground ices up, people here dont have the gear.

If they think people wont come, maybe theyll offset the loss and if its a 5050 call, theyll call it off for a full stadium next year.

Chelsea are in crisis, and dont want another beating, and a cold trip to a hostile northeast. Would they like to go fuk their cracking birds and their bird;'s mates in a big soapy bath with water resistant lube, candles, and mirrors everywhere and new friends just coming in for a dip every...AHHEMMMM!!!.........moving on-as opposed to listening to 50k fat bellied bared geordies and have andy carroll smacking into them for 90 minutes? er...maybe?

Are there a number of interested parties that would definiteley, maybe , benefit from this game not going ahead?

    Yes, yes there is.

So it aint just the practicalities. Its a big possibility its off. That said, id say 60% its on.

      he certainly wont be happy if;
theyre losing or badly in need of a goal and someone says send in the artillery (referring to Vidic),

or 'its's one way traffic here (referring to united laying siege to the opposition, and Kimjung Il's much maligned One way traffic system in PyongYang)

or, Park has been firing rockets at the enemy all day

or, that was bullet of a shot by Park there

or, Park has been dictating play here all day...

so yeah, i'd say it's gonna be a bit of a minefield.
