FPL Fixtures: Early guide to possible blank and double Gameweek dates

Manchester City’s victory over Liverpool last night marked the end of a hectic festive period in which 40 Premier League matches were contested across 14 days.

FA Cup third round weekend now brings some welcome respite in which to take a cursory look at the weeks and months ahead.

We’re only six Gameweeks away from the first mini-blank of the season, with the final of the EFL Cup set to be contested on the same weekend as Gameweek 27 in the Premier League.

Barring any seismic shocks in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, Manchester City’s Gameweek 27 match against Everton will be one of the Premier League games to fall victim of that schedule clash.

Burnley v Spurs or Chelsea v Brighton could also be affected, depending on which of the London sides triumphs in their forthcoming semi-final.

Gameweeks 31 and 33 will also very likely be blanks for some top-flight teams, with the FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals set to take place on those weekends.

At the moment, the much-anticipated “double Gameweeks” look likely to be in Gameweeks 32 and 35, given that the midweeks following those scheduled Premier League fixtures are the only ones not affected by European club competition or the March international break.

Forward-planning is not just about navigating the blanks and doubles, of course, but factoring in which top-flight sides have a congested fixture schedule around their league games.

Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City are in EFL Cup action twice in January, while those three clubs plus Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal recommence their UEFA Champions League/Europa League campaigns from the middle of February onwards.

We’ve cobbled together a calendar for the remaining Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season, though in some cases (Premier League fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards, FA Cup from fourth round onwards) the dates are subject to change due to the whims of the relevant television broadcasters.

The FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League finals take place after the Premier League season ends, on Saturday May 19, Wednesday May 29 and Saturday June 1 respectively.

The excellent Ben Crellin is an invaluable resource at this time of year, particularly his “percentages” spreadsheets regarding the chances of all 20 Premier League clubs being without a fixture on a blank Gameweek.

Here's another option. Prepare your team for the blank gameweeks (31 & 33 as the FA cup semi finalists will be blanking both these weeks) and then free hit for the double in 32. Wildcard then before 34 and BB in 35. TC will have to be used in a single gameweek though.

No, save Wildcard. With 3,8 itb you can do much with 2 transfers.. As long as you have 11 players with nice fixtures, feel no panic going without City and Pool for a week or two..

Are people going to bring him in? If he had gone to Palace then I think lots would have brought him in as he was almost a guaranteed starter. But at Bournemouth he has a lot more competition (Wilson, King). Is he guaranteed to get minutes?

        • 5 Years
        5 years, 4 months ago

True. No guarantee but at that price I’m sure he was assured starts otherwise why move. But yes, more of a punt than a nailed on strategy:)

Apparently he has fitness issues, which is why Palace pulled out of the deal. So I would be cautious.

What’s wrong with my team? I am slipping down the rankings every week by quite a lot.

    Fab/Button
    Luiz/TAA/Doherty/Digne/WanB
    Hazard/Salah/Pogba/Rich/Anderson
    Kane/Jimenez/Kamara

I look at my team and think it’s pukka but obviously I’m wrong.

I feel your pain. We have very similar teams and I’ve slipped from 3k to 123k over the Christmas period. I’ve analysed my downfall and I can only put it down to well owned players scoring well that I don’t own and getting the captaincy decision wrong. Sad times! There’s not a lot wrong with your team. Stick with your plan and roll the transfer would be my advice.

West Ham assets have shifted. Marko might be the player getting most of their attacking points again. Also their great fixture run is now over. So maybe Fabianski needs another look? But he’s still good value I think either way.

West Ham fixtures are still great. Arsenal is an OK game attacking wise as is Bournemouth next week. Wolves a bit tricky and then obv a difficult fixture to Liverpool but then they have 5 great fixtures in the next 6 after that.

Wan B, Doherty, Alonso, Digne, Schindler
Felipe A, Lingard, Camarasa, Salah, Pogba
    Ings, Auba, Kane

    2FT, 0.0 ITB

Any advice here? Want to get rid of Lingard and get a Liverpool def in. Maybe upgrade Ings or Schindler? Some ideas:

    A) Alonso, Ings -> TAA, Arnie
    B) Fab, Lingard -> Guita, Rich
    C) Fab -> Guita and save the other transfer
    D) Schindler, Lingard -> TAA, Brooks

Is anyone putting in some early planning for the DGWs and blanks?

My initial thoughts are to get rid of Man City assets in GW25 as there fixtures are likely to be.....

    GW25 - Arsenal at home
    GW26 - Chelsea at home
    GW27 - BLANK

Maybe after GW25, Arsenal can't defend. Unfortunately none of the other big teams have an obvious bad to good fixture swing around this time.

Callum Wilson to Chelsea this window? At 2/1 now on Sky. Solanke in could be a replacement...

Could be even more of a bargain at Chelsea.

    Hi all,

What can I do with this team got a weak midfield.
    2 FTs 0.8ITB

    Ederson (Boruc)
    AWB, Alonso, Doherty, TAA, (Balbuena)
Lingard, Haz (c), Richalison, Snodgrass (Gundogan)
    Jiminez, Kane, Auba

    1. Rich + Jiminez -> Firmino + Westwood
    2. Rich + Jiminez -> Rashford/ Arnie/ Wilson + Fraser
    3. Rich + Gundogan > Fraser + Pereya
    4. Any other suggestions welcome!

    Thanks

  22. Maddi Son

    Lloris, Guaita
    Trent, Robertson, Digne, PVA, Jonny
    Salah(c) Sane, Eriksen, Alli, Sigurdsson
    Rashford, Jimenez, Kamara

I know people will hate the Alli pick but apart from that, thoughts on this team boyos?

    1. George Sillett
      • 8 Years

No objection to the Alli pick at all. Good place warmer until Son comes back from his trip away. I would try and make Kamara Wilson personally to have better rotation cover , downgrading PVA and Lloris . Quite like it though.

Kinda got my heart set on PVA but still unsure about Lloris. Could easily be downgraded to a cheapie. Cheers mate.

midfield looks strong and you've gone the cheap forward option which I actually quite like

bit too much bunce in defence. would prefer AWB to PVA as a cheap nailed defender

if you are playing 5 in mid you only need 3 strong defenders for your 3-5-2
so gives you Jonny, other cheap def + Kam on the bench

    Fabianski
    Doherty TAA AWB
    Hazard Son Richarlison Pogba
    Kane Aubameyang Wilson

    Hamer Schindler Snodgrass Dunk

    1 FT, 0.1 ITB

    Hi guys,
Who would you prefer as a midfield combo:
    A) Sane + Camarasa
    B) KDB + Camarasa (assuming a fit KDB)
    C) Bilva + Richarlison
    D) Bilva + Moura
    E) Moura + Richarlison
Moura would be just for while Son is away

    Fabianski
    Robbo Holebas Doherty AWB Digne
