Earlier in the season Dimitar Berbatov almost prompted me into using my precious Wildcard. A sublime hat-trick at home to Liverpool sent the pulse racing and the urge to tinker seemed overwhelming. The Bulgarian looked irresistible and, having been handed a modest price tag in the Fantasy Premier League game, almost essential.

Thoughts gathered, I managed to keep the knee from jerking and my Wildcard remained intact. I spent the Gameweeks that followed thanking my lucky stars that I’d resisted as Berbatov, without the influence of Wayne Rooney alongside him, struggled to recall similar form. He proved to be anything but essential.

Today, the day I actually did throw my FPL Wildcard into the ring, the Berbatov bomb exploded once more. Five goals in a 7-1 mauling of Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford will grab the headlines on day when the Premier League went off the rails – 36 goals in total – not a clean sheet in sight. Madness…

Such insanity can be problematic for Fantasy Managers. The irony of such an avalanche of goals and such an individual performance on the day I play my Wildcard is not lost on me. In many ways I’m relieved; my tinkering itch has been well and truly scratched in the last 24 hours – the urge for more squad surgery is exhausted.

For others, probably thousands of others, Berbatov’s incredible performance and record FPL points haul will doubtless lead to one of the biggest bandwagons in memory. Tonight the scalpels will be out, hurried calculations will be made, points hits considered, more sleep lost. Berbatov has once again caused a big stir in our community. Not bad for a player who is often accused of failing to break sweat on the pitch.

And no, I didn’t sign Berbatov with my Wildcard but I’m happy enough regardless. My day and my Wildcard was anything but spectacular, but I’m content enough to opt out of the frenzy that Berbatov will cause and for that, I’m thankful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Find it funny how people chase points. Varney is doing alright at the moment but he won't carry it on, it would just be so wrong if he got 10-15 goals this season. Besides, wouldn't even let a Blackpool player touch my team regardless, haven't had one yet and don't plan to all year.

I know he's scored well recently, but I'm not all that convinced by the MGP bandwagon... He's playing fairly deep in a side that don't score too many goals on the whole.

The question is, had he been on the pitch today and scored / created a goal against United, would you be saying the same thing? This game is about taking risks when there's a chance they could pay of and with Blackburn's fixtures (WOL bol WHM STK wba) one can be forgiven for taking a punt on a player with such low ownership, at a cheap price.

Adam is the current leader on Value for the season
Adam is the seventh highest midfield scorer so far
Adam has scored the same amount of points as Gareth Bale
Adam has more points than the likes of Nasri

Yet people continue to be prejudiced against Blackpool players despite being into December , they continue to score against all opposition

Jasus what a bizarre moment in that Everton game! Jara elbows Baines in the head, shoulders Pienaar in the face, lunges in on Arteta and doesn't even get booked?! And ffs Arteta you missed the bugger with your stamps, at least make the red worth your while. And then there's Cahill once again showing what a classy guy he is - crazy but makes for great tv.

He does have issues. Last year in the Championship, away at Newcastle he went in two footed on can't remember who but he didn't catch him and got booked, could of broke his leg if he had of though. He is a tank though, Lee Bowyer when we played Blues slid in on him and he just stood there and Bowyer was the one who actually had to have treatment.

Mourinho said: "He (Wenger) should especially explain to Arsenal supporters how he can't win one single little trophy since 2005."

Wenger had denounced Real's controversial time-wasting tactics at Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League, which saw two of the Spanish giants' players conveniently sent off.

Mourinho added: "Instead of speaking about Real Madrid, Mr Wenger should speak about Arsenal and explain how he lost 2-0 against a team in the Champions League for the first time.

"The history about the young kids is getting old now.

"Sagna, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Nasri, Van Persie, Arshavin are NOT kids. They are all top players."

    SHOCKING NEWS!!!

He stated in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo: "As a Cule, I want Barcelona to win. As a professional, El Clasico is seen as a sensational game in which the club maintains its incredible history, but Madrid are much improved compared to last season's. I see them being more dangerous than in other years.

"No one should be surprised at my feelings for Barcelona because I have never hidden them. My family are Cules to the core, I was raised at La Masia, and that's why I say I want to see Barca win."

what do people think of berbs as a serious prospect now? when rooney is in the team his points hauls are seriously improved, and from what we saw earlier in the season, consistent. he is the spearhead of the attack with rooney playing behind him, scampering around and creating the opportunities for berbs. for 8.7 he is a tasty way into united's attack with this nice run of fixtures they have. i'm seriously considering getting him in, i've got cash left over from fabs- i could do elmander->berbatov..!

    thoughts?

i think u should stick with elmander until 19 atleast...i agree with u that berba looks good when roo is playing ...but i think u need to upgrade ur defence first...

yeah you're definitely right about my defence, that was this weeks transfer plans until berbs threw his hat in the ring! i think you're right, probably gonna sort out my defence first then get berbs in after the manu game, it would make sense. jagielka bosingwa and krul all need to go pretty sharpish. i fancy rafael too, but i promised myself i was gonna get in guaranteed starters from now on..!

Im doing exact same trade. Sold Berbs a month ago for a nice profit , might as well jump in for another rapid price gain , as long as Rooney stays fit Berbs sould play well

      Slightly concerned about rotation though

dunno about rotation after today though. berbs and rooney have got chemistry going on. i'm seeing hernandez of a solskjaer style player now, impact player for the last 15/20 minutes if things arent going so well.

I didn't watch the City game so I can't make a judgement on his performance or his potential. Ask someone who watched it and see how he did. He might have played right wing, in which case, he's a terrible pick.

If the cam youre talking about is the one posted by horizontal below. I honestly wouldnt pay attention to it. The centre of town has been gritted quite well but the roads surrounding the area are anything between 1 and 3 inches covered by snow in some places. I dont mean to be a doom-monger but it really doesnt look good.

High-End Striking dilemma facing all of us now.

    Options:

    Torres
    Rooney
    Berbatov
    Tevez

    Potential Replaced Players:

    Carroll
    Elmander
    Drogba

Funding shouldn't be an issue with Fabregas out.

Was a mistake to buy him last week (in hindsight).

Bought Berbatov for 8.8 like most people, sold for 9.1, he's now priced 8.7 but I ain't touching him. After next week United have a few toughies. And anyone who knows me on here will know my opinion of Rooney. I'm happy out sticking with Drogba, Tevez and Carrol for now.

I like Tevez the most out of all the strikers. He had a pants week this time out, but he's consistent, and he can score well even if the team don't win or if he doesn't play well.

Yeah i really like him too. If money was no object id have him in there instead of carroll but at his price it would mean replacing one of rooney and drogba which im not willing to do. I dont think you would have a bad strikeforce if you did put him in instead of one of those two though by any standards.

I have Emerton's glorious 1 point and a Tevez captaincy to look forward to. I also have Cole in my team, so I stand to lose a lot if the game is off.

I'm optimistic the game will go ahead though. The stadium there is excellent. The biggest problem will be making the grounds safe, and I reckon the Geordies will get it done.
