Antonio Valencia looks irresistible right now. While you read this, at the current rate of acquisition, a dozen or so Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will have snapped him up for their squads. By the time you stop reading this, you may well join them.

Is it unthinkable to ignore Valencia’s appeal? Certainly there are alternatives for a midfield slot in our squads – notably Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, a player who has grown in stature this season, not least in the recent run of results that has seen the Gunners push Spurs aside in the race for third.

Using the data available, including our own ICT Index and Opta’s statistics, we examine Valencia and Walcott’s credentials, weighing up the value of the United man whilst discussing a scenario where the “unthinkable” could apply…

        I thank you. Indeed I am, hence the hilarious grav in-joke. I met him in Copenhagen at a small club show about 8-9 years ago, got all star-struck, very red and fawning. Had a nice chat about football and as I am Luton Town fan (not match attending, more spiritual) and the Pavement boys followed them a bit as well their agent took them to kienilworth rd the lucky chaps! You a fan?

          Yes indeed. Saw them a couple of years ago when they curated the ATP Festival. Great to see them finally. And his Jicks album from last year was my favourite of 2011.

        So I want to bring in Valencia…but I don’t want to lose my midfield of Demps, Bale, Silva…They all have a decent amount of point potential, but will Valencia consistently outscore the likes of Silva from here on out? Sacrifice one of those three or just play it off with my original crew?

            depends on your other man utd cover, silva is capable of scoring points, but if you look it like that so is everyone, and you have got to think, silva potential highest weekly score at peak, is 12-15
            average expected maybe around 5-6. Compare to potential for valencia, highest potential could be 15 +, average expected 6-9, at end of the day it is just opinion but i have never been wrong with a prediction about a spaniard versus an ex wigan player

              I have Evans and Wazza. Good call, I like your logic. Silva is more of a third touch man I guess, important in the EPL but doesn't translate well to FF.

                  only doubt would be think mancini has realised trying to fit balo or dzeko in has been the problem recently, so see them back at early season style with aguero front man and silva, nasri and toure running through, so maybe points might increase. But still think man utd are going to rack up big points

              Dempsey has only a handful of good games for the run in, and Silva is way out of form and carrying an injury, I'd ditch one of the two.

            Does anyone have players that they always play when at home and always drop when they're away?

            I'm thinking of doing this for Enrique, and bringing a few more as per the article "Playing the field". Stoke, Sunderland, Newcastle and Villa players meet this category.

            Hi y'all:

            I had, earlier in the week, made a keeper change with my FT. However, when I read that Nani would not start to train until next week (and who knows when he'd actually see the pitch), I dumped him and picked up Valencia instead given ManU's attractive set of fixtures coming up.

            Do you all feel I should not have taken that -4 pt hit?

            Valencia, Silva, Song, (McClean, Reo Coker),
            RVP, Rooney, Aguero

            I have 2.3 in the bank but no more transfers this week - It'd have to wait until next GW. As always, any suggestions, welcome.

              That looks good. I don't think questions about actions that have already taken effect and are irreversible should be opinionated on 🙂 You'll be fine, and you have a lot of money! I would (personally) dump mr. Enrique and pick someone else up, but better yet, pick up another high performance midfielder (replacing reo coker, someone you won't be embarrassed to start) 😀
