Gameweek 24 is just around the corner and our regular feature looking at three overlooked Fantasy Premier League assets returns ahead of the midweek deadline.

All of these mid-price differentials have an FPL ownership between 3% and 5%, with one set to enjoy a Double Gameweek 25 too.

David Silva (£8.5m)

FPL ownership: 4.3%

After being handed the night off in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg win over Burton Albion last Wednesday and featuring only as a substitute in the hammering of Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday, a rested David Silva (£8.5m) looks primed to return to the Manchester City starting XI on Tuesday.

Silva’s ingenuity may well be needed to prise open a Newcastle United defence that is likely to be obstinate in nature, if past evidence is anything to go by when the Magpies have come up against a “big six” side.

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) is another City midfield differential but after starting both of those aforementioned cup ties and given that he is still building up his match-fitness, the Belgian is less certain to feature on Tyneside in midweek, particularly with stiffer tests ahead – Arsenal (h), Everton (a) and Chelsea (h) – in the coming fortnight.

Silva’s minutes-per-key pass average is the best among City’s regular midfielders this season and only three Premier League players in his position have created more big chances in 2018/19.

“El Mago” also ranks sixth among FPL midfielders for penalty box touches this season and even has a better minutes-per-shot rate than Raheem Sterling (£11.3m).

With a Double Gameweek just around the corner, Silva could be a points-spinning differential beyond Tuesday.

Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.1m)

FPL ownership: 3.0%

A “proceed with caution” selection due to his significant rotation risk status, Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.1m) has nevertheless become a more prominent figure in Jurgen Klopp’s plans recently, having started in eight of Liverpool’s last 12 Premier League games.

Shaqiri is generally the fall guy when Klopp uses a 4-3-3 against fellow “big six” clubs but has mostly been a regular on the right flank since the German manager adopted his now widely used 4-2-3-1 in November.

It would be a surprise if last weekend’s failed experiment with Naby Keita (£7.2m ) on the opposite wing – and Sadio Mane (£9.5m) on the right – is repeated, with Shaqiri primed for a return to the Liverpool starting XI against a Leicester side that shipped four goals at Wolves in Gameweek 23.

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and Son Heung-min (£8.6m) are the only two FPL midfielders to have scored more goals than Shaqiri since his run in the team began in earnest in Gameweek 12.

A maverick (and unreliable, from a selection perspective) pick he may be, but with Manchester United the only “big six” team that Liverpool face in the coming eight Gameweeks, the Swiss midfielder should see plenty of game-time if Klopp’s 4-2-3-1 continues as expected.

The Reds are also one of only five teams currently guaranteed to have a fixture in the Blank Gameweeks of 27, 31 and 33.

Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m)

FPL ownership: 4.0%

A fair number of us have had a representative of Crystal Palace’s backline in our squads for much of the season in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m), who sits in over one-third of FPL teams and is the third-most-popular defender in the game.

Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m) has quietly amassed a tidy haul this season, however, outstripping Wan-Bissaka for overall score in FPL and having accrued only five points fewer than Matt Doherty (£5.2m).

Crystal Palace sit second in our Season Ticker for the next four Gameweeks, with their appealing run of fixtures starting with a clash against a Southampton side that have registered the second-lowest number of attempts on goal and shots in the box over the last six Gameweeks.

No club outside the current top four have kept as many clean sheets as the Eagles (eight) this season, with half of those shut-outs coming on the road.

From Gameweek 3 onwards, no FPL defender has had as many attempts on goal as van Aanholt, with only two players in his position having had as many shots in the box as the Dutch left-back.

All of van Aanholt’s attacking returns have come away from home this season, too.

Goals and assists throughout the career compared to Laporte, playing position.

Not sure Danilo has much of a higher ceiling to be honest, marginal at best.

Danilo doesnt seem to have a huge amount of threat playing OOP at left back, doesn’t really get forward with Sane playing, doesn’t get in to the box and he may not even start games. His positional play (heat map) is very defensive and not much more advanced than Laporte.

Laporte is up for the corners etc. and could easily get a goal and is pretty much nailed

I'm trying to get my head round the blank and double game weeks. I follow Ben Crellin and his wonderful spreadsheet but I'm still a little confused on something. Is it possible for there to be a DGW outside of game weeks 25, 32 and 35? I read there's a chance of a triple game week for Chelsea but surely those chances are slim?

Most of those GW have European Cup matches or International Break, but it would still be possible I guess

A triple GW sounds very unlikely, why would a team agree with that?

    4. Rainer
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 10 months ago

If Chelsea go far in the FA & Europa it may leave only two free midweeks with them needing to play 3 extra games.

Could see another small DGW squeezed in for Chelsea or a TGW. Slim chance of TGW but impossible to know now.

Oh I see. So it relies on Chelsea progressing in the FA cup? Plus going far in Europa to create the possible triple GW?

I'm not sure where Chelsea will fit in all their fixtures if they reach the Semis of the FA Cup and the EL. There are too many games and not enough weekends and midweeks.

Is a possibilty if Chelsea make EL semis and FA cup semis they will have a lot of fixture congestion. Chances are low of a triple DGW but it could work out that way.

    Button
    Roberston, TAA, Digne
    Sane, Pogba, Hazard, Salah, Alli
    Rashford, Jimenez

    Guaita, Bissaka, Bednarek, Kamara

The thing is that I have Button and Guaita, as well as TAA and Alli. 2 of this problems I’ll have to solve this GW.

    1) Alli and Guaita out // Eriksen (or Son) and Ederson in

    2) TAA and Alli out // Bennett and Sterling in

    3) TAA and Alli out // Laporte and Mane in

    Which seems better..?

Looking like I’m going Sterling triple captain for the coming dgw (avg. over 7 ppl). Sure there’s a chance of rotation but he was rested last game and for a change City are chasing so I think he’ll get plenty of minutes. Added to that he plays two teams who don’t look to park a bus and the way I’m looking to use my other chips makes Hazard the only other possible option for tc in future. What could possibly go wrong? Lol

    Gents, please help.

    Here's my team:

    De Gea
    Robertson - Digne - Lovren - Doherty
    Sane - Salah - Pogba - Richarlison
    Rashford - Jimenez

Subs: Lossl, Alli - Wan-B (IN IF LOVREN NOT FIT), Success

    1FT
    3.5 ITB
    OR: 36k

My initial plan was always going to be Richarlison & Alli out for Jota & Son.

But just like everyone else, my plans went out the window with the DGW25 Announcement.

    Options:
    A) Alli > Jota
    B) Keep the FT. Use for DGW25 for.. (not sure yet, don't want too many DGWers, already have 3, one more max)

Thoughts anyone? Kindly vote or comment.

The city defender most likely playing both dgw is laporte.
If they keep 2 cs he is most likely ending up on twelve points.

Cheers mate. I do like this option because of what I get as a result but losing both CHE players for double MCI mids is a bit scary!

GKs give me pause. Digne lack of CS (would rather have Doh)
Your front 8 is a bit worrying (Ings, Jota, Camarasa)...Id downgrade Sterling (add Sane or Dilva) to upgrade Jota or Ings if poss.

Blank game weeks 31 and 33 give you 7 players involved 3 Pool 2 Bou 2 Lei with transfers to increase numbers before then. The 3 teams have good fixtures both gws.
You could use free hit in between the two for dgw.
Using wild card now though means you’d be struggling a bit for bench boost second double game week.

    A) AWB (sot)
    B) Schindler (EVE)

    A) Fraser > Richarlison (with DGW in mind)

    B) Fraser to Son (-4)

    C) Play Fraser and reassess after gameweek

Don't get Rich in, with Everton playing City it is effectively a single gameweek for Everton players

Am I good to go here folks w rolling a FT (1.1 itb) and bench order/starting lineup?

    Lloris
    Luiz/Doherty/Robbo
    Salah/Sane/Pogs/Fraser
    Auba/Rash/Jimi

    Bednarek/AWB/Camarasa

Debated Bednarek or AWB over Fraser, but I think Bournemouth may score one or two.

Your team is a conundrum. Players I wouldnt want include:
            Fab
Haz (great player, but not feeling him)
            Wilson (kind of)
Double Liv defense (I am not a fan of this strategy, tho it could conceivably pay off...one goal against Pool ruins 2 players' scores, basically). I also don't like playing 4 at the back.

Im unsure what to suggest but any move I made would involve removing the players I listed above...Im a big proponent of having some decent strikers on my teams incl one premier one (expensive).

              Thanks for the reply

I hear all your points. Well I def won’t take more than a -4 next week so I won’t be removing all the players you say.

I do know my defence is too expensive but to take out VVD for a hit feels like a crime.

All my options would allow me to play 3 at the back so there’s that.

My option C def tempts me as I’d finally get rid of Haz the troll but it’s also losing both my CHE for double City mids which is risky...

I love Wilson but it’s his injuries that make him a headache. Getting in a premium striker will require too much ripping up of my team tho

    Anything you would change? (1FT & 3.7itb)

    Alisson
    TAA - Doherty - Digne
    Salah - Pogba - Hazard - Fanderson - Richa
    Rashford - Deeney

Subs: Speroni - Bednarek - Wanbisa - Kamara

But considering he should either be shipped again to release funds, or the 4.5 (that most would'e paired with their 4.0), should be downgraded. So that's 2 FT's right there. Not sure his likely 8 DGW25 points warrant that.

        Will go with Ederson.

My thinking is that Ryan will be rested this game and back in GW25 but you are right. Too risky.

Double gameweek conundrum. I just know Auba is going to haul if I don’t get him in, but the need to switch to Aguero next week will leave me with only two transfers for BGW27 with five blankers! Aguero is my only route to City attack due to my midfield set-up...

A Mitrovic>Auba (original plan), then Aguero next week.

B Mitrovic>Aguero (planning ahead, should play vs Toon)

C Hold Mitrovic, get Aguero next week and save the FT

As a DGW captain option as I can’t do anything with my midfield - Salah Hazard Pogba Richarlison. Only for one week then get Auba GW27.
