The best Arsenal players to sign for Blank Gameweek 27

Fantasy Premier League managers are looking to Arsenal to plug the gaps in their squads for Blank Gameweek 27.

With Manchester City, Everton, Chelsea and Brighton all without a fixture next weekend, Southampton’s trip to north London has grabbed the attention of many.

The Saints have just six points from a possible 24 in their last eight away matches, which they have lost by a score of 16 goals to 10, so the interest is understandable.

In this latest Members’ Article, we have analysed which of Arsenal’s options are the best to consider for Blank Gameweek 27, as well as for the future.

We will also be comparing these top Gunners against assets from other teams to look at the broader issue of how to factor Blank Gameweek 27 into our long-term plans.

Arnautovic a good option over Auba?

Lets me get Aguero in Gw 28 that way.

If you have used your 2nd wildcard, you should have a team that can cope for the rest of the season.

Yeah, kinda like when people wildcard in GW2 or GW6, they build a team for the next 30 weeks. Pretty sound.

      1) I'm not asking for any.

      2) My team is at least 30 points up on where it would have been pre-WC, allowing me to take 7 hits when you WC, and still be 2 points up (not that I'll need to).

      3) Different strategies can, and do, work. FPL isn't a one-size fits all approach, and anyone who thinks otherwise is missing out much of the interest and fun of it IMO.

Is your team really 30 points up though ? You can’t really say that because you don’t know what you would have done with hits and free transfers.

What transfers would you have done if you hadn’t wild carded in GW23 ? Kane & someone to Salah & Rashford ? That’s probably your 30 points just there.

What other transfers since the WC would you have done ? You would probably get a very similar starting 11 by now from GW23 with just a few hits over the period.

          Over 4 weeks since WC:

Lloris has scored 23, previous keeper Fabianski has 11
Sane (and his autosubs!) outscored F. Anderson by a couple.

          So that's 13.

Yes most of the points come from Salah and Rashford (but gets me closer to 30), and in addition my WC saved me a 12 point hit after some inadvisable early transfers (I know, my fault, but had exact money for players I really wanted.

Even if you just count the 13, and the 12 point hit, that's 25. Perhaps that's more accurate. Had I brought in Aguero there would be no need to go into minutaie, as the points difference would be massive - that's my fault, and in hindsight I should have picked different players.

Regardless, the point is I think it worked and that there are many valid tactics - and I think the evidence here at least suggests that *could* be possible. As others have said, use your WC when it suits, but it just frustrates me to see such narrow conversations.

Since I WC I went from 50K to 7K, I have no regrets as my team was a mass. I think that we can navigate the blanks quite well, and that using WC in GW 34 is waste because you use it just for 5 GWS..

        Preach!

I do think those WCing in 34 face the temptation (not insurmountable of course) to over-focus on the DGW. I might end up with less DGWers, but am aiming to hold some players with good fixtures 36 onwards to have a few late season differentials.

Same reasons i used it early. Both dgws were a wash out last year and second wc was wasted so if u needed to use it then go for it. Hope free hit & bb can get me through both doubles ans blanks unscathed

Couple of questions lads, not sure there is a definitive answer for either but any thoughts appreciated..
      - Is Ryan likely to stay number 1 given Buttons performances when he was out and them shipping a few goals with Ryan at fault for the penalty last week?
      - Is Boruc likely to stay number 1 for the rest of the season now Begovic has been dropped?

Sorry again for the crystal ball questions but gw31 beckons and I have Ryan and Button in my team with little money to change them at the moment! Thanks for any insight.

Depends on the 3 PL FA Cup games and your own team.

I've always thought FH31 looked better.

How many times, across the years, has over-planning for a DGW come to bite us in the ass? Loads.

Not over-thinking it myself. Probably to the point where I have barely planned, which isn't the absolute wisest, but I sure am worrying less.

The full team of DGW is always so tempting. But you’re very right it’s always gone wrong

Few years ago had triple Pool and Klopp rotated the hell out of the team and screwed me from DGW until the end of that season

This is the most important factor tbh, it's a gamble to build for 32 if nothing new emerges but apparently there's a chance the rearranged fixtures could be confirmed before the GW27 deadline according to Ben

Chance they will, chance they won't. I personally wouldn't be gambling my entire strategy on the hunch of a spreadsheet compiler who was pretty much completely wrong with all of his predictions for when rearranged games would be last season.

Yes but the core teams (Pool, Leicester, Bournemouth etc.) are all guaranteed blanks in 31 and 33.

            - Salah
            - Mane
            - TAA/Robertson
            - Pereira/Chilwell
            - Vardy
            - Fraser
            - Wilson (when fit)

^ If you put up a RMT with any of those 9 players in - no one would scoff. All have guaranteed games in 31 and 33...

              this

entirely possible to put this 11 together and bench United/City assets for 31

              I'm looking at
              Fab
              Perry Rob Lascelles +1 other
              Salah Andersen Westwood +1 other
              Firmino Rondon

              will be decent for 31/33

bring in 1/2 more for 33 depending on outcome of FA cup QF

As I posted before on this topic - would you not prefer 11x double gameweekers by using in GW32?

It's all team dependent obviously, but the chance to literally have an entire team of no strings attached, hand picked players with double fixtures, whilst not being anywhere near a guarantee of points, is still surely too good to turn down?

        The way i see it:

        - FH in any GW outside of GW32 is like a sniper rifle - if you get it right, it could be deadly, but will require a lot of accuracy
        - FH in GW32 is like a shotgun at close range - utter devastation and not (as much) accuracy needed

Especially when there are 8 teams with guaranteed GW31 fixtures - how can you have a team with zero from Liverpool, West Ham, Leicester, Bournemouth or Newcastle for example?

By GW31 most will have 3 liverpool, 1 West Ham, 1 Newcastle, 1 Leicester, 1 Bournemouth - so minimum 7 outfield starters + a GK is 8... its not going to be difficult at all to get a reasonable amount of players

And that's assuming Palace, Wolves, and Chelsea all go through in the cup and have blanks

If any of them fail there are even more fixtures to pad out the blank GW

To answer your question, and it’s a great post btw I’d love hand picked GW32 DGWers

          I’d want 11 players for GW31 though.

DGWers don’t always play twice. History shows that.

By only starting say 8 in 31 you’re wasting 3 valuable spots which takes away from any gains in 32, no ?

            As it stands I have

TAA, Salah, Puncheon (lol), Lascelles and I’ll get Boruc in this week. So that’s only 5 and Puncheon hardly strong.

FH31 could of course work - but as i said, i think you need to be a lot more surgical & accurate to have it pay off vs. a FH32

On the one hand is 1 or 2, maybe 3 extra players in GW31.... on the other hand is up to 11 extra players in DGW32

In the same way that DGW'ers don't always play twice, single GW'ers don't always play once - and single GW'ers that play once don't always score points - history has taught us that also.

FH32 is an absolute no brainer for me - I actually think using a chip that powerful in GW31 is a terrible waste but it's all team dependent

FH32 gives you 11 players, but I really want to use bench boost that gameweek. So considering wildcarding gameweek 30, FH 31 and BB 32.

To be fair, 3 liverpool players should be almost a must anyway (VVD, Robbo, TAA, Salah, Mane etc) then check the fixture ticker for these teams:

West Ham (Fab, Rice, Felipe, Arnie)
Newcastle (Dubravka, Lascelles, Schar, Yedlin etc)
Bournemouth (Boruc, Clyne, Brooks, Fraser, Wilson, King)
Leicester (Schmeicel, Chilwell, Perieira, Evans, Maddison, Vardy)

They all have excellent fixtures from now on - and are dirt cheap - Bournemouth have a tough 28 & 29 but from 30 onwards are golden

So the teams that people will lean on in GW31 should already be part of most folks plans, it's actually worked out extremely well for not having to use a chip in BGW31

                    Maybe I can FH32.

Yeah, this is exactly where it gets tricky. It's the United v Chelsea result that will determine a lot really. A Chelsea loss and it's easier to shift out the likes of Doh, Jim, and maybe one of Kun/Sterling/Son for the Chelsea guys. A Chelsea win however, and the picture gets so murky.

I wouldn't think twice about losing Doherty or Jiminez from GW30 onwards - Wolves have a very tough GW30-34

Also - you will presumably be Wildcarding in GW34 to set up the Bench Boost for DGW35, and TC captain Mo home to Huddersfield in GW36 is as good as any DGW if a third DGW doesn't arise.

Likewise with the City assets - you can still have those players in GW32 with your FH, and get them back in again on GW34 WC - but they'll be playing a game every 3 days at that stage so don't be suprised to see rotation increase at City

Fair points but Newcastle vs Bmouth is one of the matches.
If you get some players from them it will be Newcas def and Bmouth Midf-Strikers.
                Dont see many returns here.

Pools triple up is a must
Leicester def and Attackers only Vardy that means you have to sacrifice a heavy hitter

I think a newcastle defender, and a couple of bournemouth attackers is fine for that fixture - if the attackers blank, chances are you've got a CS, and if you don't get the CS, chances are your attackers have got returns... safe in the knowledge you have a bumper GW32 to come straight afterwards

Definitely not a scenario I'd be using my FH on

Yeah it has been very fortuitous that the players that most people are targeting becuase of their current good fixture runs

People would be buying Leicester & Newcastle at the minute with their fixtures anyways, same with Bournemouth from GW30

It's almost TOO much of a coincidence that the teams that play in BGW31, have great fixs in the run up to it as well

Look at the teams playing in 31. You’d expect a lot of 2-pointers from their players. Which is why FH31 most likely will be waste compared to the super high ceiling in a DGW32.

You don’t have to make your team awful until 31. 3 Liverpool players + 1 whu + 1 lei + 1 bou player could be enough...

100% this. Got to view these fixtures as a block.

FH 11 in 31, then 8ish DGWers (plus extra game for TC) and 3 single game weekers in GW32 = a total of 31 games played over 2 weeks.

If you have 8 in 31, plus FH 11 DGWers in 32, you get 30 games played over those 2 weeks. This strategy could pay off in BGW33 however, where you might be better set. But the point is you aren't actually ahead on number of games played over those 2 weeks.

For me the thing making me lean towards FH31 is that both these strategies then have to be weighed against potential points losses in weeks to come as you potentially make less than ideal transfers moving forwards.

Of course everything will change in the next 48 hours with FA cup results and draw, but it's fun to think it through eh?

This is where the RMT tool could be very useful actually.

Could block the 31 and 32 together with both scenarios and see the highest expected points from both strategies. I do agree it has to be dealt with as a block

Unfortunately, people will not consider the missed points in GWs 28, 29, 30 when they tot up their DGW score. Many will avoid Man City and Chelsea players, despite their fixtures, until they WC in 34.

I don’t know why we get so tribal in saying one strategy is better than another. It genuinely does vary and depends on the players you have now and the chips you have available.

For me personally, it always wrangled preparing a squad for blank GWs. By their nature they contain weaker teams as the stronger clubs are still in the cup competitions, so why would I want BGW players for more than one week??

There’s the potential for these moves to be compounded if City and Chelsea progress in the cup and they do well in GWs 28 to 30.

The thing about viewing fixtures as a block though - we need to know the fixtures (see Jarvish's comment above)

That's the main concern with the first strategy involving FH 31, you might be going into 32 blind with no idea how many DGW players you'll end up having...

Also not to be pedantic as I know it's just an example but since you're counting TC in the first strategy it's only fair to account for normal captaincy in the second strategy 😀 8+24=32 games

not difficult for most people to build a team of 6-7 players who can play gw31/33 without compromising much

2nd in the league dont blank. one of the better defences in the league dont blank. fraser has easy games 31/33.

if you cant do this youre ultimately at a disadvantage

          Just glancing through this.

I've been planning to sensibly build the team up for 31 using fts and free hitting in 32.

Isnt one of the attractions of free hitting in 31 that you can triple captain in the dgw32?

If you free hit in 32 likelihood is you have to triple captain in a single ganeweek? (Maybe salah v hudds in 36)

Everyone is concerned about GW 31/32 for the free hit - but until we know the outcome of the FA Cup rounds - The Blank GW 33 seems even more tricky - surely we wait until we know more?

The BGW33 is highly likely to have less postponements than BGW31 because it’s the next round of the cup and therefore involves half the number of teams.

Having used my WC and TC I was previously leaning towards FH31 with a view to having a strong team in the lead up and probably enough DGW players for 32.

However I'm now leaning towards abandoning 31 altogether and just fielding 7 or 8. Those extra 3 leicester/bournemouth players are likely going to scrape 6-10 pts so my new line of thinking is:

        - Don't FH31.
        - Don't buy lots of rubbish players for 31 and ruin 27-30 and my current strong team.

I don’t think you need to make your team awful though...

I will have 6 for GW31 after this week (Fab, Pereira, TAA, Robbo, Salah, Fanderson) 7 if you count Puncheon (which I am not).

My plan is to get 9 out for GW31 but I don’t need to transfer any more in until that GW if I don’t want to. Even considering bringing Kun in next week for his 28-30...

It’s not like last year when everyone was bringing in Walcott etc ahead of time. Is there really anyone better than Pereira/Anderson at their price points?

        For me, it definitely is.

But that's because I have no WC left, so I won't have a quick fix once I've spoiled my team for the blanks.

Fortunately, using my wildcard 5 weeks ago has worked absolute wonders, way more than a carefully timed DGW plan could

I only have FH and TC left to use, since i made some stupid drunk BB decision last GW 🙂

I am definitely gonna field 11 in BGW31 with 4 DGW players on the bench. Then FH in DGW32 knowing I will field 11 in BGW33. After that I will 'just' have to make 4-5 transfers between 33-35 (I will probably play Robertson and 100% play Salah in DGW35 away to Cardiff). Thanks to having no BB I will TC in DGW35 with 9 DGW players + above mentioned Pool players.

Owning Boruc, van Dijk, Robertson & Salah (who are safe to play in BGW31). Got 3 players from Wolves which makes todays game kinda important. I just really hope Palace will have a bad day today. Would make Newcastle assets very good, and would make me able to keep Son & Lloris as well.

Leicester & Newcastle really looks good to me. A defender + an attacker or a midfielder from each team. Shaw and Rashford will be the first to leave my team. Maybe even for a -4 this GW.

The best option is a very individual question and depends on the state of your team for 31 after we know the results for the final FA Cup games.

I am gonna bench all 3 utd players (Pog Rash Shaw) don't think they will deliver. Still have a decent team to go in the next GW.

Should I do Shaw to Chilwell or Bench Shaw and reassess.
At some point, I will ditch Shaw anyways

I already have Salah, Robbo, Alisson, Hazard, Anderson and Pereira. With a couple of transfers I could get team like:

          Higuain - Wilson/King
          Salah - Hazard - Anderson - Maddison
          Robbo - Pereira - Cook - Rice
          Alisson

Giving this a lot of thought recently and my conclusion is that right now fh32 is most appealing . However in a few weeks time and come the draw you may see fh31 becoming more popular.
There will be a greater pool of quality players available in bgw33. If you've fh32, youre going into that game with your crappy bgw31 squad and only 1ft.

With the greatest of respect to the late Gordon Banks, would that save against Pele have got the same plaudits if he'd palmed it out or even around the post? I do think it was made to look more spectacular because it was palmed up into the air and spun over the bar.

      1. fclackless [Brazil Nuts]
        • 5 Years

Personally think that was the only way he could have saved it ... using the ball's momentum to flick it over with his finger tips. Didn't look like palming it away was an option as it was already past him.

The fact that the ball dropped right before the line made it very special

vs Brazil (best team ever at time)

Any suggestions for the upcoming game week.
      Alisson (Boruc);
      Robbo, (Alonso, Danillo,) Doherty, W-B;
      Salah, Pogba, Son, Jota, Torreira;
      (Aguero,) Rashford, Jimenez.

      0 itb.
      Long term/Short term plans?
I can only think Danillo out for GW27.

Hamer and Boruc could do with sorting out eventually. Hamer>Boruc for decent 31 GK
