The FPL Gameweek 27 team news: what we know so far

While we’ll be bringing you the usual team news video and article write-up on Friday, the earlier-than-usual Gameweek 27 deadline has prompted this initial summary of the press conferences and medical bulletins that have happened already.

Things We’ve Learned

The headline news came from Mauricio Pochettino’s presser, with talk of Harry Kane‘s (ankle) return dominating proceedings.

The Spurs boss said of his star striker:

He’s very good. I think we need to assess him one training session tomorrow and then decide but I think he’s doing well. I am happy with him and maybe he’s going to be available to be part of the squad.

He’s not ahead of schedule but everyone knows that Harry is an animal, he wants to be ready as soon as possible. He made everything to try to recover and, of course, the injury that he suffered is tough to recover but it’s more the possibility that when you push, you push. In some injuries, you cannot push too much, because always you need to be careful. When it’s a massive injury it’s completely different.

But of course, we’re so happy that in the last ten days he was fantastic, back in training again, and he can be available again. It’s going to be a massive impact for everyone.

I don’t care if he feels ready or wants to play or not, like another player. I’ll decide myself, with my coaching staff, with the doctor and the medical staff and the sports science staff. Always with every player that came from an injury or illness, always it’s about the structure, when it’s possible to play or not. Of course, if you ask him ten days ago, he was ready to play. But in the end, the last word is always myself. I take the risk, the decision and everything that is going on in the team.

Ben Davies (groin) has also returned to training this week, though Danny Rose (illness) is a minor doubt for the trip to Burnley.

One Spurs player who won’t feature this weekend is Dele Alli (hamstring), with Pochettino providing this update on the injured midfielder:

His progression is good, we are happy. This is the last part of the period of his recovery. Difficult to say: maybe one week, maybe ten days, maybe two weeks. We are going to assess him day by day.

Burnley will again be without Steven Defour (calf), Aaron Lennon (knee) and Jonathan Walters (Achilles), though Sean Dyche confirmed on Thursday that Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady are fit to feature.

Leicester’s fixtures are about to take a turn for the better but those Fantasy managers who were interested in James Maddison and Ben Chilwell might have been slightly deterred by Claude Puel’s comments on Thursday.

The Foxes’ boss said:

We have an issue with Chilwell and Maddison and we will make a point in tomorrow’s training session. It’s not serious but we will see tomorrow.

Manuel Pellegrini delivered his press conference on Wednesday and brought news that Manuel Lanzini (knee) and Samir Nasri (calf) have returned to training.

The West Ham United boss said the pair “maybe” have a chance of featuring against Fulham, though there was no update forthcoming on Fabian Balbuena (knee).

Pellegrini said:

For this game, we have the squad which played most of the games and we will have the squad list on Thursday, and maybe Lanzini and Nasri can be included on that squad list.

They worked not only today but they worked the complete week. We will talk to the medical staff about whether we can use them.

All four playmakers in our squad were injured, which is always difficult, so the return of both of them injects more quality into the squad.

We will analyse Jack Wilshere next week, then we will be more clear about his future.

Claudio Ranieri meanwhile declared that, Alfie Mawson (knee) aside, Fulham have no injury worries – meaning that new signings Lazar Markovic and Havard Nordtveit could be match-fit enough to feature.

Kiko Femenia (hamstring) is Javi Gracia’s only injury-related absentee going into Friday’s game at Cardiff, though Jose Holebas begins a two-match ban for accruing ten yellow cards.

Gracia said:

Roberto [Pereyra] and Isaac [Success] are both ready to compete. Roberto is a very important player, making the difference in a lot of games, scoring goals and assisting. Isaac hasn’t played the same minutes as other players, but the time he played, he played with quality and is helping the team. He’s a good option for us in attack with his power and pace. He is something different for us to help us manage different games.

Prödl is another option for us at centre-back where the players are playing well. It’s always good to have a player of his quality.

Kiko is feeling very well in all the training sessions. For the next game, it’s impossible [for him to play] but I think for the game after, he will be ready.

Sean Morrison (appendix) is back in training for the Bluebirds, but Neil Warnock cast doubt on whether the club captain would feature against the Hornets and provided an update on Victor Camarasa.

On Morrison, Warnock said:

He’s training, he had another tough session yesterday. He’s just got to have a bit of football in his locker. We’ve got three games in a week so it’s pointless rushing him. I’m hoping he’s going to be involved at some stage this week.

On Camarasa:

He has a medical team from Spain that look after him. Sometimes we don’t agree. It’s difficult for Victor because he’s got so many people talking to him. It’s [an ongoing] calf injury. He’s doing most things really well.

Huddersfield have been given a boost by the return of Jonas Lossl and Chris Lowe from illness, while Elias Kachunga has had a less-serious dose of the flu ahead of the trip to Newcastle.

Danny Williams (knee) won’t be ready to play despite a return to training, though Abdelhamid Sabiri (knee) featured for the under-23s last week and may come back into contention.

Managers Yet to Deliver a Press Conference

Unai Emery (Arsenal)
Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)
Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace)
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
Rafael Benitez (Newcastle United)
Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton)
Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Injury News That May Be Updated on Friday

  • Laurent Koscielny came off with a muscular injury in Arsenal’s win over BATE on Thursday night, with Unai Emery describing the defender’s substitution as “precautionary”. Ainsley Maitland-Niles missed out through illness.
  • Callum Wilson (knee) and David Brooks (ankle) are thought to be medium-term absentees for Bournemouth and are not currently scheduled to return till March.
  • Jurgen Klopp earlier in the week declared Dejan Lovren (muscle) a major doubt for the trip to Manchester United.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ruled Anthony Martial (groin) and Jesse Lingard (hamstring) out for “two to three weeks” last Friday but reports in the media suggest the pair could possibly recover for the visit of Liverpool – this has yet to be confirmed by Manchester United, however.
  • Jonjo Shelvey (thigh) has returned to training for Newcastle United.
  • Danny Ings (hamstring) hasn’t been sighted in training this week, though Stuart Armstrong (calf) has been involved.
  • Matt Doherty came off with a knock in the FA Cup win over Bristol City last weekend, though Nuno Espirito Santo appeared to downplay the severity of the injury. Diogo Jota missed out on that victory with a dead leg.

Predicted line-ups and in-depth team news on the eight teams who have held press conferences already can be found here.

Only got 6.6m to spend for a Richarlison replacement...

Take a punt on Maddison fitness or go Jota? (Already have J-mez)

I'm probably going Hazard & Aguero > Mane & Aubameyang for this round and will pass on Son and Kane.
Even though Son his been on fire recently, I like Mane's next few fixtures more and even if Kane is fit, I like the Aubameyang's two home fixtures a lot better.

Building (8 players or so in GW 31) towards dead end 31.
Holebas/Digne/Rich are going to go soon probably.

    1. Holebas-> Pereira now looking the best move? Lascelles also an option.
    2. Save the other FT or move Rich to Felipe too?

    *Fabianski.
    Bednarek, Doherty, AWB.
    Pogba, *Salah, Son, Camarasa.
    *Firmino, Auba, Rashford.
    Hamer, Holebas, *Rich, *Digne.

I didn't say that. 7 shots and 1 on target last 6 is concerning for a player whose points tally is built on 7 goals 2 assists between 11-19

People keep ignoring this fact...would be a real shame if people pick up Schär for GW 31 cover and he is out suspended, which is quite likely with the number of yellow cards he accumulates.

For those still deliberating using FH in GW31, I think I may have cracked it:

Compare your team to this guide and let me know if it's feasable and makes sense. Spoiler alert: it involves loading up on Chelsea *barf*

It does makes sense, but there is one major problem, Relying on chelsea for navigating 32 and 33. If they are in hot form then I would have actually adopted this. But they have been dreadful and also looks a bit complicated.
Good effort anyway , I am sure some will adopt this strategy.

Right, but the saving grace is that the Chelsea players don't have to be where you spend the money. You just need up to 3 slots for them, which could mean having Luiz and Kante for just one or two gameweeks (Kante could even be benched), and perhaps Sterling > Hazard for GW33. Depends on your team and preferences, of course 🙂 Cheers Rocky

Jarvish's predicted double lineups. The link is in Redlining's comment above mine on the thread. Or in the HTs.

If true, it would mean City probably blank in GW33, which is almost the final nail in the coffin for FH31ers. Almost.

Yea, it looks like it. Yet I need to make a spreadsheet with Excel or wait for Ben Crellin to do it. And it seems to complicate things even more. If Jarvish has nailed it (hope not), many teams are in trouble.

        Salah, Son, Pogba, Richa, Gunnarsson

How would you do the transfers?

        1. Deulofail
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 2 months ago

Dude that is absolutely ludicrous. Not the fact you asked me to plan your strategy for you, but the fact your team is basically perfect for GW31 FH already.

You can go into GW32 with this team, benching Pereira, Gunnarsson & Salah no less, saving the transfer, TCing Aguero, then buy two Chelsea players for GW33 (e.g. Hazard & Higuain) for put out 9 players. This is all assuming that Jarvish's predictions are correct.

As for transfers before GW31, I have no idea. But you don't really need my help tbh

            • 8 Years
            5 years, 2 months ago

Sorry I'm wrong. Without Chelsea players already in place for GW32, you will only get 7 players for free in GW33. So maybe just look to swap 2 of your DGW32 players for Chelsea players if you think it's worth it for the extra fixture. Otherwise, you're golden

    Thoughts on this?

    1) Keep Richarlison for the blanks, start one of TAA (or Camarasa*) this week.
    2) Replace Richarlison with another blank gw player, bench TAA. (will still have enough FT for 11 in 31)

Morning dz, how does my plan below sound? I've tweaked slightly, appreciate any feedback/suggestions please!

    1FT, .9m itb
    Fab
    AWB, Doherty*, TAA
    Salah, Pogba, Son (C), Gunnarsson
    Jimenez, Rashford, Firmino
    Steele, Sterling, Luiz, Digne.

Depending on the injury updates, if Doherty is out:
GW27 - Digne ➡️ Pereira or Save if Doherty is fit.
    GW28 - Son & Firmino ➡️ Aguero & Maddison for -4 or free.
GW29 - Save or Digne ➡️ Pereira for free
    GW30 - Save
    GW31 - Aguero + Gunnarsson + Sterling ➡️ Hazard + Rondon + Mane for -4
    GW32 - WC/FH

That will give me 9 players for 31 supposedly:
    Fab
    TAA, Pereira, Luiz
    Salah, Maddison, Hazard, Mane
    Rondon

Just have a rough idea, looks good on paper now but could look worse or better after 3 weeks , we never know.
Key is to save FTs and being flexible.

Yes hence I'm more inclined to saving this week and go into 28 with 2 FTs.

    Which combo to go for?

    A) Anderson + Rondon
    B) Maddison + Arnie

I'm going to wait and see. People posted Maddison has a knock and who knows with Arnie

      A looks a lot safer

A just seems much safer. Maddison to face a late fitness test and Arnie is always injured

Had the exact same problem. Don't trust Arnies fitness yet especially if you are counting on him for 31, Maddison yellow flag.
So its safe to assume A is safer and cheaper

You have 6 playing in 31 already ... use that transfer along the next 4 to build full squad for 31/33... FH 32, WC 34 , BB35

Better form since playing most minutes as central striker. I'm not getting either. Will take the risk as don't think Arsenal that good

Guess I’m going to save my ft and play Puncheon and Bednarek 😆

No idea what to do with it.

I was going to save until Kiko ruled out now Kosc also unlikely but not taking a hit. If I was unsure of transfer next week was going to Button>Boruc at the very least

I was going to bring in a Newcastle defender but I’m not sure I’m going to FH in 31 anymore so going to hold off.

That was the original plan. Thinking Digne and Son to TAA and Mane for free next gw might be better though.

Have son C beginning to think I should just trust salah! Anyone else between these two? Who are you backing?

I’m on Auba currently but not confident. Son is next in line. Then Salah.

I think Auba will play I think we all over do it in terms of rotation predictions players like Auba and aguero generally start when fit

Son as Salah’s stats vs top 6 dont look promising ...Mane looks more dangerous atm

Yeah his stats against top 6 are what made me go Son in the first place will stay strong and hold.

Think I just trust Son and Spurs especially with Kane back, more than I trust Arsenal and therefore Auba.

    (C) Son it is unless anyone has a strong argument for Auba instead?

I can’t give an argument against Son on current form. My only worry is fatigue. Still undecided between the two myself.
