Gameweek 28 captaincy easier call than predecessor

The Gameweek 28 captaincy looks like a much easier call for Fantasy Premier League managers than its predecessor.

You can now vote in the latest poll at the foot of this article or in the sidebar.

In Blank Gameweek 27 many of us struggled to find a candidate for the armband that inspired much confidence, and indeed, the most popular options all blanked.

However, in this midweek Gameweek, we have some much more appealing assets on offer.

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and his Liverpool colleagues host a Watford side admittedly in good spirits after a heavy win at Cardiff, but the Hornets have conceded seven goals in their last five away trips.

The last time Watford rocked up at Anfield, the Egyptian broke the record for highest number of points scored in a Gameweek, his four goals and one assist making for a 29-point haul.

Salah has scored in every single Premier League match he has ever played against the Hornets, currently on six goals in three meetings with them.

Alternatively, Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) potentially becomes an option again after his Blank Gameweek 27 absence.

Manchester City host West Ham on Wednesday night, although it will be a few days after the extra-time played in the League Cup final – could that convince Pep Guardiola to rest him? We will have to see what he says in his next press conference.

However, some uncertainty over the Argentinian might even help simplify this captaincy call after such a tricky decision over the weekend.

There will be no cause for Salah to be benched, which may heavily swing the vote into his favour..

    GTG?

    Alisson
    Robertson | Kolasinac | Bennett
    Salah(C) | Son | Pogba | Jota
    Aguero(vc) | Aubameyang | Rashford

    Hamer | Bednerak | Valery | Camarasa

Chances are Rashford won't play but going to start him just in case.

Rondon is playing GW31, away at Bournemouth, that's confirmed.

To play in 33, Watford need to beat Palace in the FA Cup Quarter Finals.

      Rashford ➡️Barnes

      Jota ➡️ Almiron - 4

I'm in free fall recently and making plans for blanks etc.

Do you think Pep will see the West ham game at home or the game away to Bournemouth as the easiest fixture?

        Bournemouth are good at home.

At this stage of the season, he'll probably want a strong team for every game. Everyone will need a rest - will probably make sure one of Aguero and Sterling are on the pitch at all times except for when a game is won.

Probably play Aguero until Jesus is back with Sterling at risk until then.

It's Pep though and this season has been a disaster for me so don't take my words with any degree of certainty!

Last season, they needed a 93rd minute Sterling goal to beat Bournemouth away, and another late one to beat West Ham at home. I doubt he'd consider one of them easier than the other.

Thanks to AWB and Rashford being injured, my remaining 2 subs are Puncheon and Success. I have 0 itb, 1ft.

Original plan was to hold this week and have 2FT next week for some more flexibility, but worried about having 10 for the 2nd week in a row.

        Options are:

        1) Rashford to Arnie/Barnes
        2) AWB to Bednarek/Tomkins

Any advice? Currently a bit lost for the first time in weeks.

For the people moving/thinking of moving Rashford on.

Is him blanking in 31 & 33 also a factor in your decision? I'm Free Hitting in 31 so more inclined to keep. Just wondering about others peoples reasons for shifting.

Makes sense, with me FH in 31 and him having a DGW 32 I think I'm going to ride it out for now (unless we hear he's out for longer).

0 FT left and would lose 0.4m on selling him with 0.0m in the bank.

We will have a FT for GW33 so if I go Rondon and it turns out he doesn't get a GW33 game then I can use a transfer to remedy that.

Barnes or Wood for me I think, but left field transfer of Vardy is tempting

Or how about a front three of Barnes, Wood, Vardy, freeing up loads of cash for midfield and defence (FH32)

            Great hot topic, this.

My personal opinion is that he has to go, in the position my team is in. I think he misses the match on Wednesday and at best comes back for the Southampton game, but even that is a doubt. I plan to FH32 and WC34, so Rashford was already a potential transfer out in a couple of weeks time anyway. This makes it an even easier decision, I mean its potentially: blank, blank, ars, blank, blank for gw's 28-33 (excluding 32 when I FH).

So potential options: I narrowed it down to Barnes, King, Vardy, Rondon, Arnautovic.

I already own Fraser, Wilson and Brooks will be returning sometime in the next 2-4 weeks I suspect, and Bournemouth's next 2 fixtures are really tough, so I'm ruling King out.

Vardy I suspect will be the best so if you have the money go for him. Player power has spoken at Leicester yet again and Vardy tends to perform well when liberated and has some wonderful fixtures.

Arnie looked good when he came on against Fulham. As ever with him though the doubt is his fitness and injury resistance. Can he be relied on for 6 gameweeks?

Rondon and Barnes are interesting. Looking at the recent stats Barnes is outperforming Rondon in terms of XG+Xa, and actual goals and assists. Yet on predictive tools such as those found at https://fplreview.com/team-planner/#forecast_table, looking at the next 6 gameweeks Rondon is predicted to score 7 more points than Barnes over that period (so are Vardy and King for that matter). I wonder why that is?

Next 6 fixtures are an irrelevant chunk for most, though. Most managers are shopping for 5 fixtures, or perhaps even 4 for Rondon https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/19924186

Rondon or Arnie for me. And I think I'll do Auba > Arnie next week.

Injured his ankle in clash with Henderson and had to play on after Utd used 3 early subs for other injured players. His ankle was the size of a balloon according to Ole. He was limping from midway of the 1st half all the way to end of game.

Because you mention FH31, curious to know the reason, I am too swayed that way despite having all chips intact. Main reason being I want to get decent city cover next 3 weeks and might BB in gw32. Everyone is saying it's huge advantage to have FH in 32 because you get free swing on the players but for me getting 11 dgw ers without FH is not that difficult considering our current squads. Also FH31 looks differential in itself as we can double tripple Chelsea Liverpool West Ham players without compromising city players from 28-30.

Am I making sense? Kinda irritated by overrated FH32 group think

Just to add I may even WC gw33 with only 8-9 players for 33 and the rest dgw. Arsenal and couple others might be good to triple up in gw33 WC

I'm going with the same plan I think. Our risk is that GW32 does not get arranged as predicted, however I currently have 3 players for 31 and so makes more sense to FH then.

Either strategy could work, I just hope ours works much better!

I'm looking to hold Rashford as I don't think his injury will be too long term. He'll miss midweek though so I'm thinking I should upgrade one of my bench.

Camarasa to Rendmond or JWP or don't waste a transfer?

If you only have 1 ft and no other pressing matters I would save. Give yourself 2 ft for next week.

That was the plan but my 3 subs are currently Bednarek, AWB and Camarasa.

Bednarek covers Rashford but, with Sterling having played 120 mins yesterday, I'm expecting him to be rested, which would likely only leave me with 10 starters at most.

I don't know if this fits your scenario but if if you already have Lacazette, I would keep for this GW.

If you're thinking of bringing either one of these in, Aguero looks better.

          Salah / Son / Pogba / Maddison
          Jimenez

Bit mad at myself for not doing Rashford > Aguero last night as while I'm not priced out, it blocks a move I mad in mind for next GW. Would have done it if not for the 120 minutes.

          So, would you:

          A) Rashford > Aguero
          B) Ings > Barnes
          C) Both (-4)

a bit annoying: the filling the blanks article categorically states that newcastle play both gw31 and 33, but i'm now finding out that whether they play 33 is dependent on watford vs palace. Saying that, I brought in dubravka and rondon, so it has turned out alright so far

Given Kun's mins this weekend, Ive been leaning toward waiting a week to get him in (for Laca)

If I wait til gw29, he only has two weeks before he becomes Higuain, and it's here the waters get muddy

Kun (Bou / WAT) vs Higuain (Ful / WOL)

Kun would cost me 2 transfers in the run to 31 (cos I'd shift him on to Higuain in 31) ....... and I'm not certain he pays me that back.

I'd probably have (C)'d him in 30, but Salah home to Burnley seems a decent replacement ...... and I already have Sterling (who, admittedly, seems more likely to get rotated than Kun, though who knows with Him in charge)

              Any thoughts ?

Isn't the argument that if someone scored highly against a team in the previous season they're likely to do it again the following season a bit nonsensical? Salah could seemingly do no wrong last year, it's totally different this season

I agree, I have Auba(c) at the minute. Article always mentions how Watford have conceded 7 in their last 5 away games as if that's more incentive to captain Salah but 7 in 5 isn't too bad at all

Burnley playing Pool away in a couple of weeks is a bit off putting for Barnes/Wood, were you not tempted to bring Rondon in? I prefer Newcastle fixtures.

I did look at Rondon, but went with Barnes as I felt, and still do, that Burnley will score more goals. Yes Newcastle beat Huddersfield 2-0, but they won't be playing an almost relegated side with 10 men every GW. The Liverpool fixture isn't ideal, but Leicester and Palace have scored at Anfield recently...

I can understand your thinking there, although I do think Pool seem to overcome their defensive 'blip' of late and TAA returning is good news. I think Almiron boosts Rondon's appeal a little more now but we shall see. Ill continue to mull over my possible Rashford replacement for now. Good luck.

Fernandinho not in the squad when Man City lost consecutive games to Leicester and Palace. Palace shovelled 3 goals into them.

He's almost irreplaceable in that central position?

Another red arrow, wasnt helped by taking a 8 point hit but it was needed. Thoughts here on the coming gw? have 1ft and 0.3m

Button Rashford (inj.) King (ars) Schindler (WOL)

                  - benching rashford in favour of lascelles
                  - King will come on for Sterling who i dont think will start but will come on as a sub
                  - Rashford misses 3 out of next 5 fixtures plus i will get him in FH32 so tempted by Rashford >> Barnes
                  - Alternatively if i save, i can look at doing Son/Rashford >> Maddison/Higuain or Mane/Arnie next gw

Get rid of Digne, Rich, Schindler when you wildcard if you have one.

Maybe Rondon or Vardi for Rashford short term.

Sane (C)? Too risky? Sterling, Aguero and Bsilva all played 120 mins

You'd think Sane will start, but there are no guarantees, which makes it too risky for me.

Risky but could pay off. I do expect him to play but his recent form has not been great

                    😀
Just give it to Salah m8.
If you want to gamble then I'll personally go for Doherty/Jiménez.
