Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

For those (like me) without a wildcard:

    1) how many hits are you taking over the next 2 weeks to field a strong GW35 team?

    2) are you going for 'safe' options to cover WC teams (e.g. Sterling / Son) or punting on riskier options to make up ground? (e.g. KDB / Moura)

      -4/-8 this week
      -8 next week i reckon.

      2. safe probably, leading 3 out of 4 mini leagues. im 2nd in the other, which happens the most lucrative so effectively im chasing in that os may pick one or two punts - Moura had crossed my mind but still prefer Son.

A -4 each GW. Keeping SGW players like Vardy, Hazard and Salah who I feel can outscore some DGW options.

I was thinking similar as I have Salah, Mane, Hazard and Vardy!

Without a WC, it's hard to justify taking hits to get rid of Salah/Mane in particular ahead of Car | HUD | new

Lets make a nice discussin about lur Captain this GW 🙂

Im currently between Son Eriksen Duffy and Aguero (have no Vardy)

Want to C Son but not sure about the rotation in Spurs... even if he starts they might try to win with only 2nd gear...

Got them all, and I'm captaining Eriksen. Feels like the most safe starter, have doubts about Son and Aguero gametime.

Regarding Duffy, one clean sheet without bonus would still mean just 8p. Eriksen is a BPS magnet and could potentialy match that by just an assist and 2bps.

Between Duffy, Eriksen & Son but this is where i have landed too - Duffy could be 20 pts but could equally be 3 or 4 - Eriksen should be more nailed than Son and is on good form recently thus removing the Son rotation risk and will take any undoubled points Son/Duffy provide.
