Captains

Captain poll wide open for Double Gameweek 35

We are set for another wide open captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 35 of Fantasy Premier League.

There are a number of teams with two fixtures, but very few of those are particularly appealing – so it’s possible that Fantasy managers may have to turn to single Gameweek options.

You can now vote in our latest poll embedded below or in the sidebar.

Manchester City have arguably two of the hardest meetings of the season in their attempt to retain the Premier League title.

First, they host Spurs before travelling to face their city rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The form of Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) could see him receive some attention but his record in matches against the top-six and the fact that he remains a rotation risk may put people off.

Likewise, Sergio Aguero‘s (£11.7m) chances of starting both Double Gameweek 35 matches seem low at this stage, especially as his services will probably be required in midweek Champions League action.

For the same reason, options such as Son Heung-min (£8.8m) could be hard to captain, considering he was named on the bench in Spurs’ Double Gameweek 34 win over Huddersfield.

Manchester United are in a similar position as they must travel to Everton, who have five clean sheets in their last seven, and host in-form Manchester City.

Arguably, the team with the best set of fixtures in Double Gameweek 35 is Wolves as they host Brighton and Arsenal.

Neither of their next two opponents have been particularly strong on their travels this season, while Wolves themselves have won four of their last five at Molineux, scoring 12 goals and conceding five times in that run.

That could see Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) or even Diogo Jota (£6.2m) trusted with the armband by those looking for a pragmatic differential option.

Watford also have some appealing fixtures with a trip to Huddersfield and a home meeting with Southampton.

However, with Troy Deeney (£5.9m) now suspended and Gerard Deulofeu‘s (£5.6m) fitness situation currently unclear, backing the Hornets may prove difficult.

Arguably, the most attractive fixture of Double Gameweek 35, is Liverpool’s trip to Cardiff.

The Bluebirds have conceded at least two in seven of their last eight league matches, while the Reds are fresh off the back of defeating Chelsea 2-0.

They may only have one fixture in Double Gameweek 35, but the case for captaining either one of Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) or Sadio Mané (£10.1m) will be strong.

These days so much rotation, injuries, cards etc. happens... So it's a really good thing to hold FTs until after Spurs-City tomorrow, that's going to be a tough game for both teams with risk involved.

No of course, I'm just saying that if he was out would it change things. If two of your players are out, it seems less a good plan

Well yes, I think if we get any confirmed news about player injures prior to Friday nights deadline then it's possible to reconsider an alternative BB plan.
Personally it would have to be a waive of injuries, as I'd still probably take a hit or two to have 15 DGWers available to me rather than cancel BB.

...I was really just saying Valery being flagged is ultimate scare mongering from FPL towers.

Why? I can imagine situations where holding him and moving him next week could make sense.

Granted, it's not what I'm likely to do. But a situation where a manager has some confirmed injuries and a suspended Deeney might mean a BB36 makes more sense. If those players were likely to come back after only missing GW35, holding and benching Deeney (for Jota or someone similar) and then transferring him out ahead of GW36 as part of multiple moves, maybe to get Liverpool assets in or redistribute funds, could work for some people's teams.

Or more simply if someone is TCing this week and plans to get Salah in for GW36 - maybe they can just bench Deeney and won't need him again for a while. Again, for most teams you're probably right but a blanket 'it's wrong to hold' doesn't make sense for me

I still think if you planned to bench boost in 35 go with the plan, nothing a -4 cant fix.

      depends who's on your bench.

I was all set BB 35, was gonna use my FT on a Bri defender out but Deeney RC changes that. so I'll have 3 Bri defensive options on my bench... might hold fire on BB til 36 (NEW)

Tempting. I had 21 points on my bench in GW1 (including 12 from Wan-Bissaka and 7 from Walker).
Only beaten by my 30 bench points in GW5 (with 18 from Fraser and 9 from Wan-Bissaka).

I'm Free Hitting in GW35 and Bench Boosting in GW36, but I don't expect to get more than about 12 points from my bench then.

… But last season my GW1 bench only scored 7 points, and my actual Bench Boost in GW34 was worth 13 if I'd benched my lowest scoring players, so it doesn't always work!

Cons are having lots of Brighton players, and players who are either banned (Deeney, Knockaert) or look under serious risk of rotation - either due to CL games, Son/Trippier, or because they were randomly dropped this past week - Bennett, Kola, Deulo, Laca.

Pros - using TC on a DGWer.

I would say yes, even though I'm not going that way myself.

Pros: Presuming you have recently wildcarded, and/or can put out any fires with only one or two free transfers, the majority of your bench will play twice and/or have at least one decent fixture, arguably the best time for the bench boost.

Con: If (like me) you cannot put out all or even most of your fires with one or two free transfers, then the majority or possibly even all of your bench may have poor fixtures this week, even if they play twice such as Brighton. So it may be a better strategy to save your bench boost and prepare for one of the later gameweeks by filling your team with players that all have good fixtures and using it then.

I personally will be triple captaining Jimenez this week, and saving the bench boost, as I've already played my wildcard and my bench for GW35 currently consists of two Brighton players in horrendous form with horrendous fixtures, Wan Bissaka with a bad fixture, and Jason Puncheon...

There will be nearly 1.5 million bench boosts played this week. Not bench boosting already sets you back 10-15 points on average. Has to be the biggest pro for it.

Even if your bench only scores 2 points per player, that's 16 points. If you TC'd a player who got 16 points you'd be ecstatic.

      A. BB 15 players: 3 sgw + 12 dgw and captain a dgw = potential 29 spins

      B. BB As above but captain sgw = potential 28 spins

      C. Save BB 11 players: 3 sgw + 8 dgw and captain a dgw = potential 21 spins +4 spins later*

      D. As per C but captain a sgw = potential 20 spins plus 4 spins later*

      E. As per C but TC a dgw = potential 23 spins plus 4 spins later*

      F. As per C but TC a sgw = potential 21 spins plus 4 spins later*

Saving BB gives potential 4 extra spins in a juicy gw (36,37 or 38) if you have the right players. Southampton subs for Huddersfield GW38 and BB then???

Save TC for pool v hud or United v Cardiff or another of your own choice.

My saving BB means no dgw for lloris, plus Dunk, Duffy and Murray but I can play my big gun Xl in 38 plus Southampton cheap triple up off the bench..

Only down on 4 or 5 spins but using a different week to bench boost.

I’ll make my call on Saturday morning

If I BB this week I will have total of 28 players playing, 13 double gameweekers & mane + Robbo, this is definitely better than having 15 players playing later in the season - take the hits, make it happen

I was going to but can't ignore Jimenez as a triple c. Bb would get me 12pts in my opinion and rate my team. My biggest fear is a triple c wont play due to champs league rotation. Two home games for a guaranteed starter is more fun. Bench boost made sense until deeney red, valery doubt and Brighton form. Plans changed but feel happy with my change.

It’s only funny though if it is posted immediately after the event on the day if the match, and then it is in a bit more context, and generally by some one called Jafooli 😉

He also commented after their previous match that he liked to whack an Arsenal player early on to see whether they had the cojones to take it.
The ref would have been watching out for him doing that.
Refs are often too soft on bad fouls that occur early in a match.

        "How good was GoT?"

        Not very.

Cutting briefly to every character as a cursory reminder of "Look, they're still alive and are about to do some stuff' before switching to the next.

Character development and consistent pacing went out of the window a couple of seasons ago.

        Leaves me with this BB:

        Foster
        TAA doherty vert
        Sterling son eriksen mane jota
        Jimmy aguero
        Ryan Yoshida Duffy Wilson

Not sure if 'Drunk' was inadvertent typo but it made me chuckle.

But yeah that's a solid bench boost. I'll be getting rid of Duffy personally, don't want too much money on my bench for the rest of the season and let's be real we're not expecting much from two Brighton away games lol

If his price was higher and/or played for a better team than Wolves, I think people would heavily consider him for the captaincy every single week. He's scores 11 points less than Aguero this season, he's an absolute monster.

There is an agreement that PL and UEFA matches won't clashes unless there are no sensible alternative dates to arrange a match for - this is exactly what happened for this match - it was just impossible to sensibly arrange for any other time with the tight CL/EL schedule this year. Could be even worse next year with the season finishing even earlier due to the Euros.

My first wild card in gameweek 9 gave me a rank of 3.6 million and gameweek 10 rank of 3.9 million. This was the sterling benching in 5-0 against burnley and hazard injury. This followed a GW 11 rank of 7k.

Hold your guns, GW 35 is still to come.

And they have a fist-fight with each other and are both sent off.

Sounds like the 89th minute just before Cardiff make quick break and score.

GOAL BALOGUN! That's 2 for him and 2 for Burn. What a decision by Hughton to ring wholesale defensive changes. Brighton 4 Cardiff 0.

I thought so, but with them conceding 6 goals in two games, mayba a change of personnel could be in order?

                both worth a hit.

                A. Dunk (wol, tot) to Doherty (BRI, ARS)
                or
                B. Hudson (BUR) to Delofeu (hud, SOU)
