Meet the Manager #15 – Pete Beswick

Pete Beswick is having a remarkable season, thanks largely to a maverick deployment of his second wildcard back in mid January.

After being in the top 1,000 the previous month he was on the verge of drifting out out of the top 5,000 at the start of the year.

Undaunted by the knowledge that many FPL managers would Wildcard later in the campaign, and driven by an ambition to finish as high as he could, he ploughed on with his alternative chip strategy.

It proved to be an incredible success taking him to around the top 100 mark.

During this latest Meet the Manager episode Pete explains his strategies for success in recent seasons, which also feature three top 5,000 finishes in his previous four campaigns.

An unwavering loyalty to players, who have handed him prolific points hauls over the years, has been a key factor.

Even as recently as this week such loyalty was rewarded when Paul Pogba, handed Pete attacking returns for the first time since Gameweek 28.

Pete also explains how a move away from his loyal approach cost him dearly in 2016/17 and how that poor campaign has taught him not to panic when a Gameweek goes array.

The chat with Pete is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

It is also available on Soundcloud and as a podcast. Embedded versions of these are also available below.

During the summer break we plan to release podcast versions of all the previous Meet the Manager video interviews, which can be found here:

        0-0 would be glorious, but that's probably too much to ask

          I’d put my money on that tbh. Neither team will want to lose.

    BB 35.

    Ryan. Gunn.
    Duffy. Kolasinac. TAA. Valery. Dunk.
    KdB. Son. Eriksen. Sterling. CHO.
    Jimenez. Aguero. Wilson.

    Any move here, worth a hit?

    A) Dunk -> Robertson
    B) Valery -> VvD
    C) Dunk/Valery -> Boly
    D) CHO -> Redmond/Fraser

    If Duffy (c) & Ryan concede any goals tonight, it'd better be Victor Camarasa bagging the goals.

    A rough gameweek thus far, with the only smooth being Trippier & Kola subbed off for Valery (2) & TAA (8).

    a bit random, but with England looking to have their best chance at one of our clubs winning the ucl, what would the impact on games next year be? With the winner to be participating in the club world cup, and the tournament taking place usually in the hectic December period (between about 6th dec - 20th dec) we could have a few early dgws next year!

      I think there was an early DGW for the WCC when Chelsea won back in 12-13 I think.

      Sounds like the 2019 and 2020 editions have been cancelled by FIFA with a revamped 24-team Club World Cup planned for summer 2021 in place of the Confederation Cup

      Maybe just Duffy out?

      Vardy (whu) vs Firmino (car)

      Not sure its worth a -4, might be better to do for FT next GW.

        Also Vardy are playing a team, the week after next, who have kept one CS on the road all season and they nearly contrived to throw that one away against ten men.

        Keep him for two.

    Barca - United score prediction?

    As a United fan, I see this going 1 of 2 ways:
    1. Barca 2-1 (with united getting a sneaky first goal with a glimmer of hope to be ruined eventually);
    2. Barca 3-0 or more (Barca knock at the door all game, as soon as one goes in, they all go in).
