Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

Bottomed. Cathcart a better pick than Bednarek/Valery surely?

    Foster Ryan
    Laporte Trippier TAA Doherty Cathcart
    Sterling Mane Eriksen Son JWP
    Jimenez Vardy Wilson

Planned move is Deeney & Duffy > Wilson & Cathcart(-4)

Depends how badly you need the 0.5. The choice could go either way so just get in whichever players you will be happier having in your squad.

Unless you have Chelsea and Arsenal players all the midweek games are over - so it's just training injuries now which can hurt you now.

What are people thinking of doing with their Brighton players?

Do you think it’s worth a hit removing them?

Their best chance of a cs is likely against Newcastle in gw 36, so would it be better to hold on to them and bb that week? The problem with this is your other bench players might not do as well as they would have in gw 35.

I'm only removing to afford Deeney upgrade really. Keeping Ryan too. People are going way overboard with the hits to remove BB defenders imo. They'll all likely score 1-4 points in reality so hits are v risky

      1. Bad Kompany
        • 6 Years
        5 years, 2 days ago

Cheers! Do you think it’ll then be better to use tc next week since all the bench players will likely only score a couple of more points? Only problem is there is no real stand out captaincy option

Personally prefer BB to TC in 35 but depends on your team. Easier to pick up 10-20 points from 4 bench players in DGW than nailing the TC choice. TC is the weakest of all chips

      2. Pariße
        • 9 Years

Wolverhampton and Tottenham away, there is a huge chance they get 0-2 points again, which makes them incredibly bad picks to use your BB on. The only thing we can hope for is a Ryan penalty save.

Why remove a DGW player for a hit? Whoever you bring in will need to score at least 6, and that's assuming Brighton players get 1 point both games.

Getting shot of Dunk and/or Duffy immediately, the remaining keep as bench fodder. Word to the wise: If you expect Brighton to keep a clean sheet at home to Newcastle then your heart will be broken.

Reposted question since new article came:

    Foster
    Laporte*, TAA, Valery*
    Mane, KdB, Eriksen, Son, Moura
    Aguero, Lacazette
    Ryan, Bednarek, Duffy, Deeney*
    0.7 itb 1 ft

Valery and Bednarek have Hud gw38 and Deeney has Whu. So I could keep them and TC Mane 36 and bb 38. Any better ideas? The worry mentioned in scoutcast was rotation later, but if Laporte can be dropped niw, this team doesn't look like worth bench boosting. GtG or any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Opinion is split on here. Imo for what its worth his appeal shouldn't succeed. It doesn't matter if Torreira over reacted or not, It was intentional violent conduct.

If you get sent off for those minor head buts that scarcely make contact then this should be applied in the same manner.

Considering a -12 to fit him in. Got Jimenez (TC) already for the initial -4

Interesting... Never considered him, but when you put it that way he does seem like a good option.
It would be a bold move, but he can be a great differential and could pay off for sure...

    BB Team.

    Foster
    Laporte TAA Doherty
    Mane Son Eriksen Jota KDB
    Vardy Jimmy

    Ryan Bednarek Duffy Firmino

    0.6 ITB, 1 FT.

    Use FT or roll?

    Could ship Vardy for Ars?
    Could ship Laporte to Robbo?
    Upgrade Ryan?
Eriksen & Laporte to Sterling & Fodder?

    Thoughts much appreciated!

Different crowd... Thinking TC Jimenez or Jota this week with:

    Foster
    Robo Doh Kolas
    Lucas Mane Son KDB Jota
    Lukaku/Vardy Jimenez

    (Lloris, DCL, Val, Dunk)

    Then for 37 BB with:

    Foster Lloris
    Robo Val Kolas Doh Laporte
    KDB Mane Son Lucas Jota
    Jimenez DCL Firminho

Thoughts? Also, keep Vardy or Lukaku for this gw? Thanks
