Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

    Bottomed. Suggestion please.

Eriksen+ deemey -> docoure +firmino (-4) will give me following team for BB 35. Or shall i do only deeney -> ings/gray

    Loris
    Robbo doherty duffy
    Sterz mane son docoure
    Aguero firmino jimmy

    Ryan-valery-cathcart-hojberg

Would (almost) never advocate a -12 but worth it in this scenario to get a full BB squad out

    Kane > Jiminez
    Puncheon > De Bruyne
    Vardy > Rashford
    Hazard > Sterling

Jimmy/KDB app points alone will hopefully pay back 8

    Cheers

    Good morning All !!
After yesterday's match i and think that Eriksen will be rotated in Brighton match.
    My team is:
    1 FT, 0.0 itb

    Lloris Foster
    Robbo Taa Duffy Doherty Valery
    Sterling Eriksen Son Jota Deulofeu
    Aguero Jimenez Firmino

    I'm thinking about:

    Eriksen + Duffy >>> KDB + 4.2m Defender (Watford/Southampton)

    What do you think ??

    1. Amey
      • 5 Years

I think he is a strong captaincy candidate, as i dont think Spurs need to rest players for the double. Its only GW 36 and 37 when they become rotation concerns

        1. Amey
          • 5 Years
          4 years, 11 months ago

He played 3 games in this week i guess.
          Don't you think he'll need rest ??
Also, he is playing so deep, yesterday & Hudds too.

On the other hand, KDB is bloody Red hot 😮

He looks like getting assist Everytime he touches the ball.

Also, City will go full throttle towards PL now with no CL.

    Good morning,

    Gunn
    Doherty VVD Cathcart
    Salah Richarlison Maddison Mane
    Wilson Higuain Rondon

BB De Gea Son Dunk Bednarek

Used FT on Pereira > Cathcart and now have 0.9 ITB.

What should I do now from these options please?

    A Richarlison & Rondon > Jota & Jimenez -8
    B Maddison & Higuain > KDB & Jimenez -8
    C Richarlison & Higuain > KDB & Jimenez -8
    D Maddison & Richarlison > Jota & Richarlison -8
    E Higuain > Jimenèz -4
    F Maddison > Bilva -4

Super confused about what to do next. Have both BB and TC available.Thoughts here?

    Foster --- Ryan
Doherty • Laporte • Kolasinac ----- Valery Duffy
    Sterling • Pogba • Eriksen • Son ---- JWP
    Kun • Murray • Jimenez

    A:
gw35: Murray >> Gray (and possibly Duffy >> Xxx (-4)). Then BB
Gw36: Convert Sterling >> Salah (-4) and then TC salah

    B:
Gw35: Save FT. Bench the 3 brighton players + Valery. TC Kun
Gw36: Convert Sterling >> Salah (c) and play Bench Boost of Ryan JWP Valery Kola

Option A gives me 9 extra players (8 during gw35BB and the TC gw36).
    Option B gives me 6 extra players (4 during gw36BB + 2 for TC gw35)

    1. Duffy-> Robbo (Exact cash atm).
    2. Erik-> KDB (and just hope he can cover Sterling).
    3. Erik-> Sterling + Duffy-> Cathcart (or 4.5m) -4.
    4. Erik-> Sterling + Vardy-> Rash/Wilson. (8.9m) -4.

    Lloris, Foster.

Different crowd. Thinking of BBing with this -4: Deeney, Eriksen > Firmino, Jota. Jota could do well given his fixtures and Firmino completes the City and Pool triple-up for the title run-in.

What a disaster of a wildcard that was...my worst GW rank of the season! 🙁

What to do with this shower? BB & TC left to play. BB was the plan this week, but it is now so bad I'm not sure it's the right play.

    A) Deeney -> Gray, bench Duffy and TC Son/Sterling
    B) Connolly & Deeney -> Kiko & Ings (-4) and BB
    C) Some sort of -8 or -12 to get a decent BB (any ideas?!)

Tempted with this also - one final hail mary if required. I'm 16 points behind my ML rival, who doesn't have TC left.

I would take a -8 to get rid of some Brighton

Thing is, with no cash in the bank my options are very limited. Anything better than this for a -8?

Duffy, Connolly, Deeney -> Valery, Cathcart, Gray

Can't see any better but I really doubt carrying this bench (while dealing with future urgent transfers) will leave you with a better BB week.

Yeah, if not playing BB this week it would probably have to be next week given that's the only half decent fixture left for BHA, which then means I'd need some cash in the bank (or to take a hit) to upgrade Connolly next week.

I suppose another option is just Deeney -> Ings this week and bench 3 BHA & Connolly, then use the 0.5m banked to upgrade Connolly -> 4.3m (e.g. Valery) and BB36.

Doubt triple Watford is where you want to be going either. Double blindness.

If I’m taking a -8 to make a bench boost look better, which I may well do myself then I would sacrifice one of your premiums to boost the quality and likelihood of the hits being payed back.
It would be Erikson > Redmond maybe to fund Deeney > Wilson and upgrade Connerly

Cheers. Given my ML has no LIV or TC left and is 16 points ahead, what do you think of the following moves?

            GW35: Connolly & Deeney -> Kiko & Ings (-4) -> gives me 13 DGWers + TAA/Mane ->> Bench Boost
            GW36: Either (a) Son & Eriksen -> Salah (TC) & Camarasa (-4), or (b) Mane(TC) and save FT

Looks good if your looking to maximise a differential in your mini league. That’s the main reason I stuck with Salah over Mane. I’m chasing a 40 point deficit and he has Mane.
Kind of wished I’d gone both.

Are you sure on Kiko? Watford like to rotate. Will be good for one though.

Not really sure on Kiko - but I only have 4.3m available if getting Ings. He's got some assist potential and WAT have 2 good fixtures, but yeah he could miss one of them. Not sure there is anyone better.

For 4.3 I suppose you can’t complain and if he’s going to get at least one game with a good fixture then why not.

Unless you went with a Southampton lad. Guessing you don’t like those though.

I have to get rid of Deeney if he's out.
My only options are Rondon, Gray, Ings & Long as I have no money in the bank and I'm not confident about any of them at all honestly.

Indeed both look pretty good options.
The fixtures for Pool & Watford just tilting it in their favour if Deulo is fit.

Would you say this is a better move than selling just Deeney for Gray/Ings/Long/Rondon?
