Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

Is it worth a hit to do Vardy to Firmino??

Vardy against WH defence is tasty and Cardiff will be right up for it

BBing this week. Thoughts on Deeney, Eriksen > Firmino, Jota (-4)? Think Jota could do well given his fixtures and Firmino completes the City and Pool triple-up for the title run-in.

    Ryan Foster
    Laporte TAA Doherty Duffy Valery
    Sterling Mane Son Jota Hoj
    Aguero Firmino Jimenez

Deeney is causing me a headache, do you like any of these for a -4. Plan to still BB this week. I’ve got mane and robbo so this will leave me fixed with the pool players to end of season as well

A Deeney and Duffy to llorente and taa
B Deeney and eriksen to firmino and Doucoure

    Team is
    Ryan foster
    Duffy Valery robbo Laporte Boly
    Mane sterling son eriksen Jota
    Aguero Jimenez Deeney

    What to do with this.

    Foster - Ryan
    Duffy - TAA - Jonny - Valery - Laporte
    Sterling - Mane - Camarasa - Son - Eriksen
    Aguero - Murray - Jimenez

Willing to take -4. Leading marginally ML rival has triple Arsenal but no BB left.

Would you make these moves (-8)
A Deeney to Long ( bench fodder from 36)
    B Duffy to TAA
C Eriksen to KDB ( could wait to 36 but feel City need to go all guns blazing and could not afford move if price rises before 36 without hit)

    Gives me for BB

    Lloris Foster
    TAA Doherty Valery Dunk Robertson
    Sterling Mané Son KDB Jota
    Aguero Jimenez Long

Just realised I can make the same moves. Looks like an interesting option.

Some other options for you to consider are Deeney & Eriksen to
      Llorente & KDB
      Firmino & Deulofeu/Redmond

        Thanks yes also considering
A Deeney to Firmino and Eriksen to Redmond (and Dunk to 4.9 m defender or Duffy to Kola)
B Deeney to Llorente and Eriksen to KDB and Dunk to 4.7 m defender or Duffy to Kola)

I prefer Deulofeu over Redmond if he's fit.

Also I don't think it's worth selling Duffy for a hit unless its a Pool def.

Maybe. When I questioned whether Jim(c) is a good idea this week after their FA cup and Southampton loss I was told Wolves have to win their remaining games so Jim is a good choice.

I guess the same can now be said of City players and putting the (c) on one of them?

Salah is a differential atm. Atleast in the Top 10k only 22% atm.

Expect that to rise but not so much as people won't have so much money with Spurs, City & Pool assets already in their teams. Think Mane is the more dangerous one right now given his much higher ownership amongst active teams.

Nope I haven't but I saw your post mentioning it yesterday. Think I know who the winner is.

I meant Salah might not be as big a threat as we expect him to be next week.

Look at the numbers though if you have time. It is very interesting. Salah's BPS baseline is ZERO over that period.

It will make you stop worrying about not owning Salah.

                  Bobby F averages per game...

                  Week 1-29:

                  GA's=2.1
                  SiB=1.5
                  mins/GA=36
                  Penalty area touches=4.6
                  BPS baseline=7.8
                  Goal conversion=15.5

                  Week 30-34:

                  GA's=2.8
                  SiB=2
                  mins/GA=30.9
                  Penalty area touches=6.4
                  BPS baseline=9.8
                  Goal conversion=21.4

In that last 5 weeks... Salah's goal conversion rate halved from 18->9% for the above period of Firmino. With the result his BPS baseline is close to Zero. btw, Salah's min/chance created is also down.

On this basis. Instead of sacrificing Erikson I should be sacrificing Salah.

If I owned him I would keep him, just trying to point out there is more than one way to play the game. Ville Ronka has no liverpool on WC. Not even a defender. Mark has no City on a WC other than Laporte.

Owning the most expensive player with the most pts is not the only way to go about things.

Doesn’t matter though ... he can score a goal off his @rse or elbow as long as he scores.

Maybe he will get a CL winners medal to go with his World Cup, European Cup, Spanish & Italian League, Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup, EL winner medals ... not bad for someone useless 😉

A goal and 4 assists in just 4 starts suggests otherwise, especially at his price point

With Kane out abs CL semi final soon, he may get decent minutes in a free scoring team ...

      Seems like a decent move.

You could also consider Firmino & Deulo over those 2.

He’s getting shipped as it’s the easiest way for people to get Sterling in. Eriksen is still a good option though.

I don’t get this Eriksen out thing.

Presumably those who tripled up did so for a reason. There are some tasty fixtures coming - including Bha and I don’t see getting rid is a priority now. The Spurs formation and selection is up in the air and anything could happen.

To generate funds to get a decent BB by upgrading the likes of Deeney/Brighton defenders .

Triple Spurs on the WC now seems a terrible decision. Should I do Eriksen -> KDB or prioritise shifting out Duffy and doing the former transfer next week? Want to do Son -> Mane soon, which I will have money for.

They're out of the CL. They can focus fully on the title now. In fact, I think they'll be desperate to win it. So I expect less rotation now.

    Morning all!
Would you still BB this team or roll a FT for a mini WC and a Gw36 BB?

    Gunn (Ryan)
    Robbo, Doherty, Trippier (Duffy, Valery)
Sterling, Erik, Son, Doucoure ( JWP)
    Aguero, Jiménez, Vardy ?

Also, Duffy - Keep and save FT or sell this week?
