Captains

Captain Sensible – No leading option for Double Gameweek 35

It looks like Fantasy Premier League managers will have the opportunity to use a differential captain for green arrows in Double Gameweek 35.

Just as was the case in the previous two Gameweeks, there is no one standout candidate for this round of fixtures, which significantly reduces the risk of going against the grain.

In fact, such is the nature of the schedule over the next few days that even a handful of single Gameweek options can make a strong case for the armband.

As usual, we’re here to analyse each player to help you find the best captain…

As this article uses Opta data, the main bulk is only accessible to Fantasy Football Scout members.

Captain Poll

Once again, there is no clear and obvious favourite in the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. Currently in the lead is Wolves striker Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) but he has just 26.35% of the vote at the time of writing. He is certainly not a bad choice with five goal involvements in as many Premier League outings. Double Gameweek 35 has probably been the kindest on Wolves, who have two favourable fixtures coming up. At first, they host Brighton, who seem to have sleepwalked into the thick of the relegation battle, before Arsenal come to Molineux. The Gunners have just one clean sheet on the road this season, while Wolves, and Jiménez in particular, tend to do better against the bigger clubs.

Soaring into second place after an impressive display in the Champions League midweek is Raheem Sterling (£11.5m). He has five goals in his last four league matches and also has two fixtures in Double Gameweek 35. They pit Manchester City against Spurs (home) and Manchester United (away).

Such is the support for the defending champions despite difficult fixtures, that Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) is currently third in the captain poll. His one goal since Gameweek 28 is not of huge concern to the voters as he has 14.87% backing at the time of writing.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) heads up a very tightly-packed contest to be the best of the rest for Double Gameweek 35. His support of 5.95% is only just a little more than Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) on 5.84%. While the Spurs man has two fixtures, against Manchester City (away) and Brighton (home), this is where we see how many managers are concentrating on single Gameweek players.

Salah and his Liverpool colleagues travel to Cardiff, who have conceded at least two goals in every match played against top-six sides this season. The Bluebirds shipped four when they went to Anfield in Gameweek 10, with Salah producing a goal and two assists. Furthermore, the Egyptian looks like he could be back to his best after his spectacular strike against Chelsea on Sunday ensured he had goals in back-to-back league games since Gameweek 23. Sadio Mané (£10.1m) is also in the top 10 with 3.55% support.

Arsenal’s Double Gameweek fixtures aren’t too bad as they face Crystal Palace (home) and Wolves (away). However, uncertainty over Unai Emery’s team selection is probably why none of their options backed by more than 4.41% in the captain poll. That honour falls to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m), who has a backed by just a few more than colleague Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) on 2.77%.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m), Eden Hazard (£11.0m), Andre Gray (£5.9m), Gerard Deulofeu (£5.6m), Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) and Lucas Moura (£6.8m) are the only other options on 1% or more.

Why all the love for Wilson when he's only got 1 game vs Gray who will surely replace Deeney for both games?

Final thoughts on whether I play my TC this GW by looking at my remaining captaincy options:

    A) Sterling 35 (TOT, mnu) - tight turnaround and plenty of competition with Sané and Mahrez but is in the form of his life right now and its a DGW.
    B) Salah 36 (HUD) - should start assuming City are back in front at this point but could be hooked early with Barcelona game 4 days later.
    C) Hazard 37 (WAT) - last home game for the Blues against a side with one eye on the cup.
    D) Sterling (bha) or Salah (WOL) 38 - go for the talisman from the side in front on the final day knowing they are likely to get the full 90 minutes to help wrap up the title.

    No BB left BTW

If Andre Gray is a trap then I've never been more happy to walk straight into one. Gray and Deulofeu straight into my team, hoping for the best!

I predict this weeks major trap to be Jimenez (C). Wolves inconsistent, low scoring and facing a Brighton struggling for survival and Arsenal with two clean sheets away in 4 days. Trying to be smart by captaining Jimenez when you have KdB/Aguero/Sterling makes no sense to me.

D as Gray is shite and Mane to Salah is a sideways move and makes no sense for a hit.

To be fair, has ppayed well whenas he plays.
Take that back, might be a decent overlooked option.
        Woild still take Llorente though.

Vardy and Almiron to Sterling plus a 5.4 bench striker for -4?

Otherwise Almiron will be on the bench and I just play Vardy.

Just play Vardy, I’m keeping him over getting in someone like Gray who is useless yet because he has 2 games people are shipping out decent strikers for him

Best DGW Ramsey replacement up to 7.6? Already have Jota. Thinking Moura maybe but already have Son, worth the double up? Maybe Redmond also.

In case some didnt get the memo

Pochettino on Son being banned for the Champions League semi-final first leg: "Of course, that is going to be sure that if he is OK, he is going to play [in the league] because for the first leg of the Champions League he is going to be suspended."

Nice when managers spoonfeed us Managers, huh?

Jimi and Wolves are giant killers, they struggle with the bottom teams.

BHA may beat them and then Wolves beat Arsenal....that's their M.O. this year

            yeah like those moves.
I can either do a -4 of Eriksen, Deeney to Deul, Firmino (keeping Duffy and Dunk)
or a -8 Duffy, Eriksen, Deeney to Yoshida, Moura, Firmino?

Not sure the -8 is worth it tho?

I suppose it depends whether we think Watford and Southampton defenenders will outscore Duffy or Dunk by 4 over the 2 games.
