The Dugout Discussion opens today for two Premier League games involving some of it’s most enjoyable teams to watch. Third-place chasing Spurs take on the exciting Swansea City after Newcastle host Liverpool, with the former fighting for European football.

The team news from the game at The Sports Direct Arena is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Perch, Gutierrez, Guthrie, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba.

Liverpool XI: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Jose Enrique, Shelvey, Spearing, Gerrard, Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy.

Alan Pardew is without the injured Fabricio Coloccini, which partners James Perch with Mike Williamson in central defence and puts Jonas Gutierrez in the left-back berth. It’s the same attacking mentality that served them so well at West Brom.

Liverpool also name an attacking side, knowing that a win here is essential if they want to overhaul the Magpies. Andy Carroll returns to his former stomping ground and starts alongside Luis Suarez.

    Definately a Bale assist? Defender cleared ball out of the box before VDV scored. Cant remember the rule.

      If touched by an opponent inside the box, the assist is given. If it was outside, it wouldn't have been

      Last attacking player to touch the ball before the goal. It is if they had possession it wouldn't have counted.

    Patrick Viera was right, we've already seen 2 penalties not given this afternoon against the home team. Simpson & Gallas

    Especially the Simpson one, crowd would have been baying handball for the home team, and ref would have given it imo

      He can't give a penalty for the Gallas one. Taylor didn't go down - it didn't affect his run or pass at all. If he decides to go down - dishonestly, imo - then it's a different story.

        He can give it for the Gallas one, there isn't a role that says if a player stays on his feet, it isn't a foul.

        The original point isn't about referees, it's just about the advantage of playing at home.

          Vieira's point was about the big teams having a home advantage. It's a load of bull imo, you get some decisions for and some against. The way these big attacking teams play they could often get more pens than they do. And no referee in his right mind would give a penalty if the player gets a shot away like Taylor did.

    It's a shame players don't get points for quality. The pass by Modric to Bale for the goal, so good. As was the finish.

    blackburn could get a draw v united tomorrow. united have won 6 in a row. that surely has to stop sometime. they have qpr(h), wigan (a), villa (h), everton (h) and they should win all those games before the city away game.
