Top 10k remain unmoved on popular transfer targets for Gameweek 37

The top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have been largely unmoved by some of Gameweek 37’s key transfer targets.

Manchester United’s players have been much discussed over the last few days ahead of their final two fixtures with Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard (£10.9m) has been looked at as a decent captain option when Watford come to Stamford Bridge.

However, neither Chelsea or the Red Devils are particularly well represented in the top 10k, who have seemed keen on minimal changes from their Gameweek 36 exploits.

As you can see from the graphic, none of Manchester United’s players have managed to break into the list of most popular options in the top 10k – which has not changed much from the Gameweek 36 template.

That’s despite Paul Pogba (£8.5m) and Luke Shaw (£5.0m) among the top five most signed assets ahead of Gameweek 37, transferred in by 115,000+ and 100,000+ respectively.

The Frenchman is the most fashionable at the top level, currently sat in 26.6% of top 10k squads, indicating his ability to make a difference for his owners.

Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) is owned by 15.8% of managers in the upper echelon, while left-back Shaw is enjoying 18%.

That suggests that the current top 10,000 managers are more concerned with form rather than fixtures.

The Red Devils have by far the most appealing schedule between now and the end of the season as they face Huddersfield and Cardiff, both of whom are struggling at both ends of the pitch right now.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have won just one of their last five Premier League matches, and their most popular Fantasy assets have performed poorly.

In that run, Pogba has averaged 4.6 points per game, but has blanked four times, while Rashford is without an attacking return since the first match of Double Gameweek 32.

Furthermore, Shaw has averaged 1.6 per Gameweek in the last five, although he was suspended for two of those.

That has understandably ensured they are poorly represented in the top 10k, although if Huddersfield can bring the best out of them they will almost certainly act as powerful differentials.

The same goes for Hazard who is owned by just 15.4% of managers in the top 10k.

The captain armbands that he has been trusted with take his effective ownership to 22.1%, which is still relatively low.

Given that Watford have conceded more big chances than any other side this calendar year, and Hazard has three double-figure hauls in his last four at home, a high score could force plenty of movement in and out of the top 10k.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah‘s (£13.3m) 19-point haul against Huddersfield has reduced his impact as a difference maker at this level.

His ownership in the top 10k has now increased to 39.6% which is finally enough for him to return to the list of the top five most popular midfielders.

The Egyptian is also the third-most captained in the top 10k for Gameweek 37, ahead of a trip to Newcastle, taking his effective ownership to 47.5%.

The most important asset by some stretch is Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) who has been captained by 52.3% of managers inside the top 10k.

That takes his effective ownership at this level to 132.5%, roughly 40% more than the second highest in this department, Raúl Jiménez (£7.0m) on 93.8%.

We have further confirmation that ‘chip season’ is very much a thing of the past as none of the power-plays were used by more than 4% of the top 10k for Gameweek 37.

As you can see, the Triple Captaincy was the most popular with Aguero, Raheem Sterling (£11.6m), Hazard and Salah those considered for it.

It is worth noting that there is still a small group of managers inside the top 10k who are yet to exhaust their chip supply.

91% of them have done so at this stage, but there are still 9% with chips left in their pocket.

Not surprisingly, it’s the Triple Captain which is likely to be the most deployed on the final day of the season as managers hope to benefit from what usually proves to be one full of goals.

Surely one last trolling from Haz before he leaves to troll the Spanish FLL players.

    Would only be fitting...

People call him a troll because they aren't patient with him. I have probably owned him for longer periods than most over the last few years and he has been fantastic for me. Acoribg bug when I own him and failing to score when the bandwagon kick into action.

Yeh for sure, patience is always the key with Haz, but you have to admit he's timed his blanks with gameweeks where he's been transferred in heavily over the years.

Not got the rep for no reason.

I agree. But those are the weeks I tended to have held him for. I agree for many he has been a nightmare. Perhaps I am a more patient player. He has been great for me.

Yeh he is a big-game player and those players can be frustrating for FPL because it's counter-intuitive to hold onto expensive players for tough games. Well done for being patient with him.

Either way he's an FPL legend and will be missed if he leaves.

Who would you transfer Son out for the last game?

    A Pogba (poor form)
    B Redmond (rotation risk)
    C Ward Pr. (rotation risk)
C Keep (strong Everton defence and fatigue)

    Thank you

I have owned Jimenez since GW1 and I think he will be departing this week. I have been with him on his full journey. I have watched his birth to the league. I have watched him grow as a player. I have watched his ownership rise and rise. We have done it together as the goals flew in. My commitment to him has never wavered. So it is with deep regret Raul that the time has come to part. May we meet up again soon. Until then goodbye my friend. Thank you for the memories.

Amazing FPL player this season, I remember in GW1 I was considering Jimenez or Kamara and went Kamara! It was also because I had Jota and Doherty so didn't want to triple up on Wolves to begin with.

I'm also likely selling this week, who do you have in mind? I'm looking at Mitrovic (NEW) or Ings (HUD).

I like both Mitrovic and Babel, I feel they might be playing for a transfer and showing they are good enough to stay in the Premier League.

To be honest Jimenez was the cheapest nailed forward who rotated well with Fraser for the 11th spot in my team. Both at 5.5m. I was going to see how he would get on and which option would emerge as the best 3rd striker. In the end I was waiting until GW38 for a better option to emerge.

I will likely bring in Mitrovic. I fancy him to be up for the final game vs his former team. He has a lot of motivation to do well in that game.

Yeah, but I'm also not keen on Bournmouth away at Palace. Palace are pretty solid at home.

Maybe you could do Mendy and Fraser to Yoshida and a premium midfielder like Pogba or B.Silva?

30 point gap I'm chasing against my mini-league rival, and hes brought in Lacazette for a hit and captained! Not sure what to make of that, he wasn't even discussed on here this week let alone as a captain....

I've got Aguero and Hazard (c) which he doesn't own, reckon I've got a chance here?

Laca won't play full 90 minutes. Iwobi Özil & Mhki likely to start, I think with Auba up front but if laca starts Dunk & Duffy might find it tough especially if he keeps running behind them. (It is always hard for tall players to stop short players)

Yeah fingers crossed hes rested. Although I can see Brighton defending with 10 men all game like they have been doing, so hopefully they sit really deep and give no spaces for Lacazette/Aubameyang to run into.

Yes. Hazard, I believe will do the job against Watford. I had Laca & Auba but Emery acts like a Spanish squirrel sometimes, He could substitute anyone at anytime So I brought in Higuain to combine with Hazard on fh. (Watford have conceded more chances to opponents they have faced this calender year than any other team)

Morning all! So I know I ask this every season but does anyone have any wishes for change in FPL next season? Add a new 'attacking midfielder' position'? Move more players like Salah, Mane, Sterling etc. to the forward position similar to how they changed Zaha and Arnautovic last season? Change any of the point scoring (bonus included)? New chips?

Or are we all 100% happy? 🙂 . Interested to hear some thoughts.

It's a shame because I think there is a mix of people who want to play this as a fun game but others who actually do take it quite seriously (still as a game of course). I got some funny comments the other day but I actually think they could split the game into something like a 'FPL lite' and 'FPL pro'. One being a very easy going, casual game (similar to now). The other a lot more stat driven.

Out of interest did you ever play the Metro fantasy football? That was my favourite.

I loved the game much more when there was just one WC for the whole season and that's it, no other chips. I think one WC is good enough for shaking things up at the right moment.

Morning. The bonus point system needs updating, when you watch Salah play and he's taking loads of shots and trying to take people on, it's a positive for his team because he's on the front foot and causing problems for the opposition. Yet in terms of bonus points and FPL he is punished for that!

I dont think the BP System should have so many minus points essentially and should reward the likes of Salah who make things happen.

100% agree. This is why I ask questions like this. In my opinion there's actually a lot that can be improved in FPL.

What bothers me the most about the bonus system isn't the way the BPS is earned (which I agree needs a change). It's the way it's limited/maximised to 3 players each match. The way it works is that technically the 4th best player in a match can "out perform" the 1st best player in another and not get any bonus.

Yeah it happens all the time when you watch a full 90 minutes of a game. The player who is clearly the man of the match or best in terms of the eye test never seems to get the maximum bonus points, particularly if that player hasn't actually scored or assisted.

I know we cant award bonus points based on eye test because it would be way too subjective so you've got to have some sort of stats to back it up. But if attacking players weren't so punished I think the MOTM on eye test would be more likely to receive higher bonus and therefore make the points more of an accurate reflection of the actual game.

Get rid of assist for winning a penalty or free kick and anything that comes via the keeper.

Another idea I like from the Starting 11 app - in game substitutions.

During the 90 minutes of any game, you can sub a player out for your bench. I think it encourages people to actually watch the games and make judgements on eye test, but it would probably end up being 89 minute subbing out a 2 pointer for a bench player with an even less of a chance of scoring in their upcoming game week.

Just to show I'm being fair I'm actually going to say I don't like this. I'm a big fan of having a game week deadline and then everything is locked. Auto subs are enough for me.

Defensive midfielders should have half of clean sheet points to increase their appeal because so far they are the most useless players to get in the game imo

My wish (and it's a big one) is for FPL to actually split the midfield into two positions. Have a 'central midfielder' and a 'attacking midfielder'. Perhaps even reduce the forward position by 1 to add a space to the attacking midfield position. Then these positions can be scored more accurately to the player positions.

I agree. I don't really have problem with the attacking area and points & I still love to play my 3-4-3 system 🙂 I don't want a forward spot chopped off 🙂 , however that central midfielder & Defensive midfielder roles in the game needs to be sorted out. They are the cheapest midfielders in the game, could easily fit in as a 5th midfielder.

I also do not like the autosub rule with regards to formation. I believe any player should come in for any player(If I play a 4-4-2 with a missing defender and my first sub is a striker that returns points in the gw then he comes in for that defender but if I play a 3-5-2 then NO chance for that sub to happen, why should that be the case for heck sake! That alone can affect a mini league /OR(In a case where one's rival is in the same situation but with the favored formation). Any player should come in for any player regardless of the position they play imo

You have to play at least 3 defenders though, and I do agree with that. Nobody would play defenders if you could play less than 3.

If it was just for auto subs that would create another issue - a little loop hole in your proposed system would be to play a defender who you know isn't going to play and then you get an extra attacker come in 🙂

Oh! yes. I agree. I get the reason for the autosub rule with regards to formation now. It makes alot of sense tbh. That 2nd paragraph explains alot although I can't deny that I still love all out attack 🙂

A player who comes on for a cameo (under 10mins) should not count for points if in Starting XI and get an auto sub. The PL has moved on with 18-20 regular first team players - people will invest a lot more in proper benches and take risks on high ceiling players (eg. city).

I find that hard to believe. If you had a player come one and score a brace in the last 10 minutes you wouldn't want those points!? I think this would be a highly controversial change. Like the thinking though 🙂

Of course I would like that if it happens. But that’s hindsight. And luck.

I much prefer the comfort of knowing that if I captain Sterling and he is rested that I have proper VC. Also I would have a good bench and prefer 90mins from someone like AWB than risk 2-3min cameo from a Sterling.

I disagree with that suggestion, I feel cameo points are needed in this game. That is why we have a bench and a total of 15 players, it is a team game. Stop being soooo solskjaer!

But it's a very controversial one. I still prefer the system as it is. Every manager should be responsible for how they arrange their bench regardless of the time played by the players on the bench.(i.e less than 10 minutes/ full 90 minutes)

I get your point bud. Every one can suggest what they feel is better tbh. It's a good one, however, I feel that approach will make the rule of the game a little too soft with regards to that aspect

Likewise, if they are in the manager's starting xi and get cameo points. Every manager should be responsible for whoever they start in their team regardless of the minutes played by these players with exception to 0 minutes played obviously 🙂

                          Some random ideas:

                          Get rid of chips

Score half points for all bench players each week (encourages stronger squads)

                          1.5x pts for vice cap

Go back to a single WC (why get 2 chances to completely fix your team?)

Make cheaper players rise faster as they become popular template picks (eg Mahrez in 2016, Jiminez this year) thus making them harder to bring in.

Allow dual position for players such as Salah Mane etc so they can be picked in mid or fwd.

Max 2 players from any 1 team.

Would love if wildcards were removed, would require so much more planning and casuals would get burnt. Obviously understand that it will not happen as FPL needs to claw wide to get the highest amount of people playing.

We need a word to describe someone who doesn't take as much of an interest in playing the game as most people on here do. I thought casual was ok? It's not offensive; it just means someone who doesn't put as much effort in to the game. I definitely have a few of them in my mini league. They don't even know some of the players!

Solid team. That defence will be similar to mine as well(on wc) Although I might bring Robertson for Trent and Walker in for Laporte instead. I would suggest you have a playable goalie, Hassenhüttl can not be trusted in that area, likewise follow the pressers incase of any hint of Redmond not starting.

I'd still like to see a sub category of midfielder - the defensive ones like Matic, Kante, Fernandinho etc, and give them 2 points for a clean sheet.

Anything to bring the regular 1st team players (such as those above) into the FF game.

This or increase BPS awarded for defensive contributions.

Yeah that would be good, but how do you define who is a defensive midfielder and who isn't? Its hard enough with classifying midfielders or forwards like Salah/Mane/Sterling.

Would, for example, Gundogan be classed as a defensive midfielder

I totally agree with this buddy. They should get half the points for cleansheet any central midfielder/ Defensive midfielder should to increase their appeal

Add to Doucoure to that list as well so many great fantasy options in that role that we ignore due to the lack of added points for them

2FT going into the last week, initial thoughts:

                              Lloris
                              TAA Laporte Valery
                              Salah (c) Mane Son Redmond
                              Aguero Jiminez Llorente

                              Doucoure Doherty Duffy

                              A) Llorente/Jiminez > Long/Zaha
                              B) Son/Llorente > Bilva/Long, bench Llorente
                              C) Son/Jiminez > Sane/Long, bench Llorente
                              D) Something else?

                              How's my bench boost looking?
                              Transfer: Jonny > Valery.
                              Anything else worth a hit?

It's highly unlikely to happen, but the following results could result in a Premier League play off and either an extended GW38 or GW39.

Liverpool win 5-0 and lose 2-1 AND Man City draw both games 0-0
Liverpool win 4-0 and draw 3-3 AND Man City win 1-0 and lose 1-0
Liverpool draw both games 3-3 AND Man City draw 0-0 and lose 4-0
Liverpool draw 3-3 and lose 4-3 AND Man City lose 3-0 and lose 2-0

*similar scores to above could also produce a play-off - if City and Liverpool both score and concede an identical amount of goals on top of the above scorelines without changing any of the results (eg in the top scenario Liverpool winning 6-1 and losing 2-1 and Man City drawing 1-1 and 0-0)

I would absolutely love to see this happen, although its probably a 1% chance. Good to know though, thanks!

Yeah... and imagine if FPL were able to include it too - like a six-a-side or something of that sort 😀

Love my team but it’s all too little, too late. Note to self for next season:

                              1. Pick a couple big hitters and leave them for the season, shy of injury.
                              2. Also pick good budget mids playing in attacking positions and be patient with them (Jota, Deulofeu, Redmond, Fraser).
                              3. Identify value early (Jimenez, Doherty, AWB, Fraser).
                              4. Captain sensibly. A big hitter rotating home and away worked really well at the start of this season (Salah, Aguero).

I probably try and do all of the above *every* season so need to ignore fixtures more and stick with form. Hits can work - I’m not going to be persuaded differently (and they’re fun) - but they need to be well calculated.

Take more hits! I've lost ground ignoring players like Salah last week, Aguero home to Cardiff. There are big swings when these moves pay off- hoping they don't doesn't always work.
