Scoutcast Episode 294 – Endgame

“We’re in the Endgame now.”

With just one round of fixtures left of the season the Scoutcast team attempt to wrap up all of the outstanding talking points ahead of Gameweek 38.

Andy, David and Az began by overcoming the frustrating nature of Gameweek 37 in order to get truly excited about the final day of the campaign.

Not surprisingly, the key player to be discussed was Son Heung-min, whose red card against Bournemouth ruled him out of Gameweek 38.

We looked at all the potential replacements and examined all the implications of moving him on for a cheaper midfield options.

That included our thoughts on Manchester United and Southampton assets after poor performances in Gameweek 37.

Next up was a debate on what Wolves can bring to Liverpool in Gameweek 38, especially with so many managers either double or tripled-up on them.

In the aftermath of the Reds’ incredible Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona, we also looked at what we thought Jurgen Klopp’s men are capable of in their Premier League finale.

Also, an injury to Andrew Robertson on Tuesday night prompted discussion about what to do with the left-back in Gameweek 38.

Finally, Andy, David and Az tackled some last day of the season dilemmas from managers wondering what tactics to employ to ensure the highest possible finish.

This episode of the Scoutcast can be accessed on our YouTube channel or embedded in the article below.

Once again, we apologise that we are still unable to publish it in a podcast form and will endeavour to rectify this for the 2019/20 season.

Looks good if you cap Salah.

But im not sure if he's a better captain option than Kun.

Surprised to see Hazard's price rising last night, I sold him this week for Sterling. You want players who have something to fight for and I don't know how people can afford him if maxed out on City and Liverpool. Salah, Mane, TAA, Laporte, Aguero, Sterling here.

Hazard buyers, who have you sold so get him?

He’s still the second highest points scorer in the game - it’s not like he’s got a blank or anything.

Would a 2-2 at Leicester and a 0-1 at Brighton really surprise?

I'm still not convinced Hazard will even start (or at least finish) the game if they have a Europa final looming

Because of fear of injury or because 2 and a half weeks isn't enough rest time? 😉

Fully expect to see him play, he's an important player and there's no other player that needs the gametime instead.

The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to agree actually.

Back in later March Hazard and Kante got rested because Haz had played 47 games and Kante 50, presumably to make full use of them in the run in.

However, flash forward to last week and Kante goes off injured, with Sarri admitting he'd had too many games and he (Sarri) should have rested him.

Frankfurt will be Hazard's 50 game this season, will Sarri now be extra cautious about players that have had to play over 50 games this season? He can't risk a Hazard injury, but will be eager to finish 3rd by beating Leicester, a task that Hazard will be important for.

              Tough one.

I'm not saying Hazard won't start, just that it's a possibility. Sarri has never won a trophy and and I'm sure both he and Abramovic will prioritise Europa over 3rd place

Not for a couple of weeks after but I don't think rest will come into it. If he doesn't play it will be to avoid injury

Leicester defeated chelsea this season. I don't think Sarri will want the same by resting Hazard. Even if Eden plays 90 minutes against Frankfurt, he will start at kingpower

Yep that’s a possibility I guess. Sarri keeps on making noises about the number of games.

The early move for him is rash but getting him in isn’t bonkers.

I'm considering shipping Haz to Salah to get that same combo of City/Liverpool, but it's for a -4 and I wouldn't captain Salah so probably not.

Only brought Haz in last week for Eriksen, captained him. Don't fancy him to do much this week

I can see me doing Haz to Salah (with Mane and TAA) and Son to Bilva (with Kun and Laporte). Thus getting the full quota of City/Pool.

            Best option out of these:

              Agreed.

For me it has to be one of the Liverpool mids unless chasing.

Surprised Aguero is currently leading the poll. He's only scored 6+ on the road 3 times this season - Fulham (10), Newcastle (9), Burnley (9). No doubt a great option to own this week, but I feel the ceiling is much, much higher with Salah or Mane.

Redmond for me, ML wrapped up so chasing OR.

Would go with Sterling or Mane otherwise. Hazard away form doesn't merit captaincy, plus Leicester looked very solid against City.

Klopp got it spot on tactically and the players were all faultless. I thought Fabinho was exceptional. Top sh*tehousery, ran the midfield and controlled Messi/Suarez when they dropped deeper.

Man City v Spurs, and both the Liverpool/Barca matches have really reignited my love of football this season.

CL final will be a classic also, no doubt.

I can't really justify a hit for a defender like Laporte with fairly low goal threat in final GW over playing Doherty can I?

No if Laporte only gets a CS you gain 2 points? If you play Doherty he could also get 2 points.

No, you can't. The odds are heavily against that move working. Plus if Robbo is a slight doubt I can see Doherty having joy (though I'm currently benching).

            Should this be my endgame?

            Lloris
            Laporte, TAA, Valery
            Deulofeu, Sterling, Redmond, Salah
            Long, Jimenez, Kun

            Foster,- Kola, Duffy, Son

Doesn't really feel confident with 3 southampton players and with Jimenez and Deulofeu..

On free hit for gw38, which players would you prioritize?
I plan going with the 8 of Robertson (if fit), TAA, Laporte, Mane, Sterling, Aguero, Vardy, Redmond.
Looking for 2 mids, or 1 mid + 1 fwd.
Players I'm interested in are Wilson, Fraser, Townsend, Babel, Zaha.
(If Robbo isn't fit I may get Pereira)
Not sure about gk, thinking of Rico, Guaita, could possibly afford De Gea.

            Which ones would you get?

On FH, i have the same spine for 343 + Wilson, Haz, Shaw.

              I'm also considering Arnie, McTominay.

Fraser will be up against AWB - very few have returned against him this season. His best bet is set pieces but Palace defend those okay.

If you must it should be Wilson over Fraser

I'd be looking at 3 x City and would probably lean towards 2 defenders and 1 midfielder or forward. 3 x Pool, Alexander-Arnold, Mane and Salah, then Redmond and a Saints defender, Batshuayi or Zaha and Wilson. Haven't looked at it in any real detail, but I think those would be my priorities to build around.

Decent team, I would suggest doing nothing until we've had the press conferences later this week, GW38 usually throws up heavy rotation.
Also Spurs have appealed Sons red card - personally I doubt it'll be overturned, but you may as well wait and find out.

            Which should score higher:

            A) Doherty (liv) and Redmond (HUD)
            B) Laporte (bha) and Brooks/Jimenez (cpa/liv)

Who are you replacing Jimenez with? Jimenez is now £6.8, so providing you have £0.00 in the bank, you cannot get Zaha now, who is £6.9.
            My personal options are:
            A) Shane Long vs HUD(H)
            B) Marco Arnautovic vs WHU(A)

Honestly, I think Shane Long should score vs HUD but I am not sure if he is going to start. Austin hasnt started for some time, maybe he will get a start as it is last day of the season.

With Arnautovic, I think he may well haul, but I am not sure if he will start, I think he will having scored a brace.

Agree on Long and possibly missing out. Arnie too I fear may not start. I’m looking here at what the managers have done recently. Both teams feel like rotation risk especially given its 38

I’m going Rondon - could have been Pérez. Away not so hot of course but I don’t see Rafa mixing it up

Burnley generally do not do well vs Arsenal.
Wilson is a good shout, but I dont think he can haul. Maybe. I m worried that they couldnt break down Spurs having 2 players more for 45 minutes

Bournemouth much better away lately, Wilson is central to it. They're against a Palace side awful at home, and are chasing their highest ever Prem points total (I think this matters). Wilson is definitely the one I'd go for this week.

I still somehow have King, and I'm even kind of optimistic for him.

Palace have defended ok at home oddly. The home record is really all down to a misfiring attack.

Note too that Howe has fielded 3 radically different sides in the last 3 - he’s in full experimentation mode. That makes them an avoid to me.

Right will leave my transfers to fate:

If Haz rises or Salah falls I can afford Robbo + Haz to Salah + Valery. (-4)

            Giving me:
            Foster
            TAA, Valery, Bednarek
            Salah (c), Mane, Sterling, Bilva
            Kun, Jimi, Wilson

            Fabs; Doherty, Duffy, Elliott.

            Foster (Ryan)
Robertson - SHAW - Valery (Bednarek - Doherty)
Eriksen - STERLING - MANÉ - SON (Højbjerg)
            WILSON - Agüero - JIMÉNEZ

            Alisson (Speroni)
            Laporte - TAA - Digne - SHAW (Wan-B)
            SON - MANÉ - STERLING - Pogba (B. Silva)
            JIMÉNEZ - Rashford - WILSON

I have a massive issue going into the last GW. The first team is mine, and the second one is my mini league rival’s. I have a 1 point lead, and both have two FT. Highlighted players are in both teams.

Which players should I target to win the mini league? The way things stand, he has a much better team for GW 38.

I like your team better tbh. I would transfer Son -> Pogba and captain Aguero with Bednarek first on the bench. If Robertson doesn't play you have a Southampton double-up vs Huddersfield - not too bad imo

I think I'm starting Gray. I can see Deeney rested vs WHU to avoid any injury for the FA Cup final.

Still totally buzzing from last night - unbelievable!
Have a bunch of colleagues at work who are Real Madrid fans and they're almost as delighted as me 😆

Looking ahead to Sunday, depending on Salah and Robbo injury news, how does this look after a planned 1FT?

            £0.6itb
            Lloris
            Robbo*, Laporte, Valery
Salah (C), Sterling, Mili, JWP, Babel
            Aguero, Wilson
            (Foster) (Jimi, Doherty, Yoshida)

Alternative plan is to get Rondon for Jimi and play 3-4-3 with Jota first on the bench (instead of bringing in Babel).

Thoughts always appreciated - cheers lads

What site do people, here, use to gain access to stats and other useful tools (paid or free?)
I play for decent money at my workplace, but there's a guy that romps it EVERY year and has access to spreadsheets, to help him.

I'm currently 2nd, yet with one game to go, he's stormed it, again.

I'm going to get this git, next season!

I really hope Kun gets it. He was so unselfish setting Foden up a few weeks back, while Salah has become Sturridge like with how selfish and greedy he is, shooting from impossible positions and going on his own rather than putting a team mate in.

Salah plays with Mane vs. Aguero playing with David & Bernado Silva. Selfishness works both ways!

8 points behind the leader in my ML with a big prize on the line! My team and his are below.

            TAA - Laporte - Doherty - Valery - Duffy
            Son - Mane - Sterling - Jota - Redmond

            Salah - Son - Hazard - Gundogan - Westwood
