Set Pieces page upgraded for 2019/20 Scout Members

We have upgraded the Set Pieces Page for those who sign up for Fantasy Football Scout membership in 2019/20.

This page has been an invaluable tool for managers down through the years, helping inform them when selecting their squads.

It displays the top penalty takers, those responsible for direct free-kicks and players who take the corners for their respective teams.

This will be updated during pre-season and over the course of 2019/20.

The public section of the popular Set Pieces Page

As you can see from the screenshot above, we have now added entries for newly-promoted sides Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United based on players currently in their squads from their Championship campaigns in 2018/19.

With Video Assistant Referee (VAR) coming to the Premier League this season, the Set Pieces page could be more important than ever before.

However, we have also made more improvements to it for Members.

Underneath the public matrix of set-piece takers for the 20 Premier League sides is a new section, which extracts data from the Members Area.

In this new facet of the Set Pieces Page, users can find information on who each team’s key set-piece targets are.

This way, they can easily access information on who the most likely players to score from dead ball situations are for each Gameweek.

The three players with the most headed attempts from each team are listed, along with any others that registered ten or more headers from set plays.

In brackets is how many such efforts that player has recorded so that Scout members can also see which of the publicly listed set-piece takers are the most accurate and reliable.

Again, this section includes data from the Championship on Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United, which should prove most helpful.

Members can see a short preview of this just below:

For full access to this new feature, make sure you visit the Set Pieces Page to check it out.

Hmmm, can’t really see any defenders on pens.

Would love a peak Charlie Daniels type this year.

Ritchie might be reclassified as a defender. He spent most of the season as a left back

Aye it's possible, Almiron was taking pens for Atlanta and we'll also likely be bringing in another forward which may affect the peno taker.

    A great addition, thanks!

On the subject of improvements for members, is it possible to remove the limit of 10 columns for the creation of members tables? There are just so many useful attributes now I want to see them all at once!

Round 6 of Fantasy Cricket World Cup starts today. This marks the beginning of the second half of the competition. There are 5 fixtures in total and each team only has one fixture (no DGWs). In this Round you only get 5 free transfers with each additional transfer above this costing 10 points. The transfer deadline is 10.30 am UK time.

Something I thought about today, the transfers window surely effects when the game up. If Maddi play for Utd or Leci he will be diffrent prices, so they dont want to make mistakes. Sure there is more players.

Anyone got examples of this from the last couple of seasons? I mean, Mahrez changed teams when the game was already up, but his price was right either way in his case I feel.

There are always players moving clubs after the game has opened. Most of the time it makes little difference, occasionally it throws up an interesting bargain. Enrique moving to Liverpool when he'd been priced as a Newcastle player attracted a fair bit of attention for instance.

    Jessie Lingard - wtf?

I never considered him brain surgeon material to be fair, but equally I didn’t think he was THAT thick to post a video like this:

Over the years there have been very few United players that I have disliked. If I did it was more so due to the fact that I thought they weren’t good enough ballers or just said/did stupid things. Cleverly or Heinze for example.

Lingard though drives me crazy. Hate is too strong a word but seriously what a clown. Should be sold and never be allowed in a UTD jersey again.

I get the fact that he’s (relatively) young and on holidays & can enjoy himself... but what was going through his head when uploading that video to social media? Is he trying to get sold or something...

He’s let down a lot of people with that video, be interesting to see do utd take any action

Not sure what point is being made here - is it that these guys off the field behaviour was shocking, but they were talented footballers who wasted huge portions of their career so in a way are similar to Lingard?

You know exactly the point I am making.
You are putting these working class lads on pedestals.
Most of them left school early have working class backgrounds. And shock horror most of them to quote the poster below 'swear like sailors'.
His mate riding a pillow is hardly that shocking is it?

They could be doing much worse!
All this moral high ground stuff, can go too far they are just young lads who happened to become pro footballers.
Do you expect Winston Churchill levels of rhetoric from them or what?

I actually have no clue what point you’re making by referencing three notoriously troubled ex footballers in this context

Unless its somehow that because they have had a history of among other things, chronic gambling and alcohol problems, convictions for domestic abuse, and testing positive for class A substance abuse that Lingard is somehow excused for uploading a video of himself that shows a total disregard for his own fitness, his professionalism, possibly brings his employer into disripute, and just generally shows a total lack of common sense that has plagued him throughout his career and that many argue is at fault for his unfulfilled potential?

Oh it's OK if they are 'troubled' but gifted footballers.
But if they are viewed as normal average-occasionally decent players - a bit of swearing is a hanging offence suddenly?
It seems like a real double standard to me
All Rashford is doing is riding a pillow - boorish/childish/stupid yes. But that about it
All Lingard did was a bit of swearing.
Very mild stuff considering the stuff you see on reality tv 'booze up brits abroad' etc.
If anything you are blowing the whole thing out of complete proportion just because you want to use it as an agenda to get rid of (what you view as) an average player that you do not particularly like/rate.

I don’t think Rashford was even in the video, his name is mentioned but that wasn’t him with the pillow.

Lingard was in the video though - obviously under the influence of alcohol (if he did that sober it’s worse) - and swearing profusely, and laughing at a friend humping a pillow. Not a kid. A grown man of pretty much 27, who should be in his prime but struggles to get physically fit enough to wear the shirt. He should be spending every waking hour working on his fitness and preparing to give the club some value for the millions he’s being paid rather than this nonsense

Would you also mind kindly re-stating what point you are trying to make by referencing Gaza/Marandona/Merson here?

I still haven’t a clue what you’re driving at with them tbh

he was only saying - what would the reaction be if those 3 were around now and being videoed? it would be much worse, that's all he was saying.

Basically you're moaning about a 27 year old swearing and laughing at his mate being an idiot, you might not find it funny but that doesn't really matter

As pointed out above - I disagree and think the reaction is warranted - for videoing himself swearing profusely, under the influence of alcohol, while his mate suggestively performs actions on a pillow, while he’s injured (or maybe he’s fit now, who knows, maybe it was a fitness holiday and they’re all physios?) and uploading for the world’s perusal, after he contributed to one of the worst seasons of the club in years?

And why was George Best's 'indiscretions' tolerated?

He was welcomed back with open arms once the PR game was played by SAF.
All I can from the clip is a group of young lads with a bit of excessive swearing. With very mild high jinks

it seems pretty harsh to label someone a disgrace for using swear words mid-sentence (in a non-abusive way) but oh well.

Also, how do you know he hasn't already maximised his potential? I've never seen him as someone who could be some sort of world beater, like Jack Wilshere, this is just how good he is and everyone gets carried away because they're English (and 'young').

Get rid of him because he's shite, not because he said a few 'naughty' words - yes he's a grown man, so he can say what he wants (as long as he's not directly abusing anyone)

I don’t see a huge amount of harm in being on holiday with a bottle (or two by he looks of things) of vodka in him, and swearing profusely while his mate humps a pillow.

He’s a professional athlete (and one with known fitness issues) so it’s definetly not an ideal or possibly the most constructive way to enjoy the offseason, but certainly something I could turn a blind eye to.

My issue is with his desire to upload it for broadcast to the world - that is very worrying. Just because things happen doesn’t mean they should be shared on video imo.

He didn’t stop to think about what the video would portray to many people (or maybe he did which is even more worrying) - fans, his teammates, his manager, his family etc.

Equally, he has signed a contract with Man Utd, one for many millions of pounds, and in that contract will have been an acknowledgement of the club’s code of conduct, and an agreement to abide by it - this to me sails very close to the wind in territory of fines etc - he’s an ambassador for the club, just a terrible showing altogether imo.

Actually, I should rephrase that - I would really prefer if he wasn’t drinking, swearing and laughing at his mate humping a pillow while on holidays - but I could possibly excuse it if he had the discretion to keep it to himself is the point - I don’t know what he’s trying to do by sharing it with the world

He either didn’t think or did think, both are not good endorsements of him imo

These days you are a young lad on holidays with a bit of drink on you, now and again you are going to air your stupidity on social media.
It happens to all young lads in this era of social media.
          They are products of it.
The fact they are pro-footballers is only incidental as far as they would be concerned.

The young lad thing is a stereotype. He is a professional athlete who is 27 in a couple months. He has 3, maybe 4 years left at the top, he has well known fitness issues, and he hasn’t not lived up to his potential (many would say) to date - and he chooses to do this - it says it all really - not fit to wear the shirt

Yet you suddenly decide that a fella who does a bit of swearing is a disgrace to the club?

So that’s Ronaldo, Maradona, Merson, Gascoigne, George Best, Cantona and now Alex Ferguson - who are apparently examples of how it’s accetable for Jesse Lingard to post a video on social media, of him (likely) under the influence of alcohol, swearing profusely , filming his friend humping a pillow, and posting it for the world to see - with total disregard for how the video would be received by millions, including, fans young & old, his teammates, his management, his family.... at the lowest ebb of his club in 30 years... after a season in which he contributed worse than nothing

The optics of the situation are shocking - a total disgrace from Lingard

Totally agree - I’d entertain a free transfer just to get him out of the club - not necessarily just because of this one incident (even though it’s a disgrace imo)

If him & Pogba can be cut out of the dressing room, I’d wager things wouldn’t be long improving at Utd.

Not to the point where thery’re winning (or even maybe challenging for) the league or champions league, but they would likely improve nonetheless

Alex Ferguson would have him sold by this evening if he was still in charge, but there is a different power structure & hierarchy in the club now & it’s brought the club to its knees

I'd go a step further and terminate his contract even if it meant paying his wages to the end of the contract! He's exactly what's wrong with the club right now.

The club needs a shift in mentality, a ruthlessness of getting rid of these players to make sure they understand if they fall out of line they're out straight away.

It sometimes takes something stark and disturbing to illustrate how standards have slowly and perhaps unconsciously crept downwards over time

A 6th place finish is that event on the pitch

This video isn’t far off being the same thing off the pitch

Giggs & Lee Sharpe’s house party when Giggs was around 18 was probably something similar when Ferguson was in charge

He dealt with it by actually going to lee sharpes house & got Giggs out of it forceably, Sharpe was soon gone from Utd and Giggs had a fulfilling (football) career

Similar should happen here - someone needs to go and get Rashford away from the Lingard sand the Pogba’s and get them the hell out of the club

If he played at the same level as Ronaldo would you excuse his behaviour?
And it is now seen as just a handy excuse to get rid of Lingard because you see him as an average/not very good one.
A 'not very good player' that has played 24 times for England and scored 4 international goals last year.

Again, in the same way as Merson, Gascoigne, and Maradona are not relevant here - Ronaldo is not relevant here - Lingard has already been described in this thread as a (relatively) talented footballer, that is not up for debate.

Pogba is also a talented footballer.

Being a talented footballer and being involved in a shameful incident are not mutually exclusive, Lingard unfortunately is both, as well as being someone who should no longer be at the club, in my own opinion. I don’t make the decisions at old Trafford though, so no guarantees what happens.

Ok he should not longer be at the club.
That is a lot of footballers who should not be at clubs if we took your draconian line on it.
Also you are willing to 'free transfer' a player for it.

Yea I would excuse it because if he played like Ronaldo it would mean he had the training ethics of Ronaldo which is a good thing and good influence on younger players coming through. Ronaldo became so good precisely because he didnt spend his time doing dumb stuff on social media. Lingard has neither personal nor professional qualities that should be wanted at any club.

As for your point about making excuses to hate because hes an average player, John O Shea and Ji Sung Park are among my favorite United players ever. Attitude and work ethics over natural ability.

Lingard shouldnt play for England either, disgrace for the country.

I can't recall: when the prices come out on FPL, will they have last years Total Scores and Point per Match with the new prices?
Or do we need to get the old info from somewhere else? Want to do 'value' comparisons with the new prices.

Total score (Pts) and Points per match (PPM) did remain on the FPL Statistics page till the GW1 deadline, along with the new Price (Cost) and the new Teams selected by % (Sel.).

Form has already been changed to 0.0 for all players, but I would expect most of the options in the 5th column to stay there till the GW1 deadline apart from Price, Teams selected by %, Price rise, Price fall, Price rise (round) and Price fall (round).

    New penalty rules:

"The goalkeeper must not be touching the goalposts/crossbar/nets; they must not be moving.

The goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot on/in line with the goal line when the kick is taken; cannot stand behind the line. "

The goalkeeper cannot move until the penalty taker kicks the ball?

As in they can't be moving from side to side before the player shoots. Don't think it means they can't guess a split second before the taker kicks so long as one foot is in line with the goal line.

It’s that the posts or crossbar themselves can’t still be moving apparently:

            https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48703852

“In other tweaks to the penalty laws, the kick cannot be taken while the goalkeeper is touching the woodwork or nets - or if the net or posts are still moving after being touched”

Sounds potentially difficult to police and might lead to inconsistencies...

I wonder will they just let the penalty be taken, let the GK do what they want (within reason) and then just go to VAR if it hasn’t been scored to check none of those rules were broken

If any of them were, the taker gets another chance & repeat until either the pen has been scored, or it has been (legally) saved

The punctuation is slightly ambiguous because the sentence begins with "The goalkeeper".

But I accept the point that they're referring to the goal itself.

So can the goalkeeper still jitterbug left and right before the kick is taken as much they want, so long as one foot is still on the line?

Need some feedback on stat analysis I'm doing.....

I've been developing a post season spreadsheet and have come up with what I feel is a useful scoring factor:

    MINUTES PER ADDED POINT

    Eg. Raheem Sterling
    21 goals (x4 points)
    + 11 assists (x3 points)
    + 26 bonus points
= 155 added points above standard appearance points
    Divided by 2770 minutes
    =17.87 mins per added point

Only Aguero comes out better at 17.18 mins per added point.
NB I haven't inc. CS points for mids as yet

Is this a good thing to be looking at? Any problems scoring players like this?

for reference Martial is the 5th highest Mid at 21.51 mins so there are some factors that can be seen

Aguero usually got taken off around 60 to 70 mins most games. I think points per game is a better way to go.

Aguero may have the best minutes per point added but if he only plays 60mins every game....

Yellow/red cards should also be accounted for.

Points per minute is only relevant for assessing players who played limited minutes but who might be playing larger parts this year imo. Specifically players like Jota and Deulofeu are cases where PPM might be a more interesting stat than PPG going into this season.

Theres not much point using PPM instead of PPG for a player like Aguero. If anything, he should see his minutes managed more next season than last season.

Dumb question: why are there hardly any Sunday games scheduled for the 2019/2020 season?

They usually don't schedule Sunday or Monday games until the TV companies decide which games they want to show which is usually the month before.

There is no FPL points column in the member's area here. Does anyone know why that is? It's easier to transfer data from here into Excel than the FPL website.

It should be available in Custom Stats, in the tables.

Take a look at this one: https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/32006/

Looking at Chelsea, do you expect Jorginho to stay? I kind of think he might leave and follow Sarri

I agree with this, if he stays I can see him being on the bench a lot.

      Confident he will follow Sarri.

They are basically a combo deal at this point.
