Can a price drop boost Harry Kane’s FPL appeal?

Harry Kane (£11.0m) has been handed an eye-catching starting price by the Fantasy Premier League decision-makers.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker is available for £11.0m going into Gameweek 1, the cheapest he has started a season since 2016/17.

Kane’s 2018/19 ended in frustrating fashion for the England centre-forward, with two separate ankle ligament injuries forcing him to miss ten of Spurs’ final 16 Premier League fixtures.

A total of 160 points represented his lowest FPL score in five seasons as a first-team regular in north London, although 23 attacking returns was more than any of his teammates managed and his points-per-match average of 5.71 was the second-best among FPL forwards in 2018/19.

With Kane’s starting price dropping by £1.5m on what it was 12 months ago, does he again become one of the more attractive premium options in the game?

The Members’ article below delves into the data to analyse Kane’s season and ponder his worth.

I am pretty surprised that premier league clubs didn't want to go for Free transfer Diego Godin..The guy has atleast 2 good seasons left in him, plus he adds so much more experience and composure at the back.

Didn't Mourinho want him? Too old for Edwood Woodwood.

Fairly timeless defender so consistent. A big project going on at inter and he’ll be a key part of forming it

She looks good I reckon. Thoughts on this?

    Ryan - (Button)
    Robertson - TAA - Laporte - Coleman - (Kelly)
    Salah - Sterling - Maddison - Siggy - (Dendonck)
    King - Jota - (Nketiah)

      Little light up front...
Can be bold by downgrading Sterling to KDB and Upgrade Jota
Otherwise it's a good starting team

Or could keep it the way it is going light up front and strong in mid and the back. Looks bold as is.

So the new Brighton manager wants a more attacking approach, and they've just signed a wide forward who was touted in various Youtube comment sections to join Arsenal. Sounds like a good mix - quality attacking forward, new attacking manager.

So Leandro Trossard, worth a punt? Or have Youtube comment sections lied to me? 😯

Oh, his father actually confirmed it:

“Because he has not skipped a single step in his career. He could go to Atlético or Arsenal today, beautiful clubs, but that is too early,” Comhair explained.

“To take the next step, he must now go to Brighton. If he shows his Genk performance at Brighton, then the big clubs will come and get him next summer.”

Don't want to come over all Merse here, but no one's heard of him! I'm waiting on reliable reports; in the meantime, I'm attracted to Gross if Brighton show more attacking intent.

I made up a team to see could I go 3-4-3 with Kane/Salah/Sterling and two liverpool defenders.

    Pickford (Steklenburg)

    Robertson-TAA-Smith-(Kelly-Gibson)

    Salah-Sterling-Fraser-Norwood-(Dendonker)

    King-Kane-Long

I assume the FFS community would like it.
Basically because it has the three 'big hitter' captain choices and double liverpool defence.
But I got to be honest I am not sure about it at all not much flexibility.
I suppose Norwood could be changed to McGinn later gw4 and Fraser downgraded.
It assumes Kelly will start for palace, Long gets his place for the saints and Gibson moves to another PL club,
It does solve the goalkeeper conundrum though.

There is that option I suppose.
        But then it is
        Ryan plus a 6/5.5 midfielder/striker v Pickford his fixtures
I suppose it is close dependent on whether you get the midfielder/striker right.

That does not look too bad - but I feel that the 4.5m striker is asking for trouble. That is why I was trying to find a way around it.

    Morning y'all

I see fredericks in a few teams. Is he nailed on? Better attacking threat than diop and rotates perfectly with a.smith

He is in a fair few teams and appears to be nailed. He looks good on paper, but he did naff all last season: one goal, 0 assists and about 3 CS.

Zabaleta is 34, but I still think he'd get the odd game over Fredericks, because he adds something different.

Balbuena is the best option if you really want in to that dodgy defence. He has good goal threat.

Taylor and Lascelles might be solid. Charlie Taylor was looking attacking for Burnley towards the end of the season, and there's always the hope of Burnley becoming tight again. Lascelles is dented by Rafa leaving, but I still think they'll be ok defensively. Decent rotation.

    Cheers!

    Ha

Doherty is currently more widely owned than all the Chelsea backline. Admittedly Chelsea are an unknown quantity but their track record over a whole raft of managers has been consistently good.

I keep coming back to the thought that either a nailed Azpi or Luiz is likely to outperform most 6.5 forwards over a stretch of games.

      • 4 Years

You are correct. Azpi/Luiz will get over 150p and Im struggling to see attackers under 7 reach that. I have brought in King as third striker tho. But yeah, a nailed Chelsea defender is a great asset at 6.0.

First off, whilst Doherty served me very well last season, he's got a big price hike and starts off with the Europa curse.
Secondly, Chelsea haven't even got a manager yet (could change by the time I press 'post') - I'd want to see how they shape up pre-season before looking at any of their assets.
Third, do you think the Azpi and Luiz will outperform Digne and Coleman?

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 9 months ago

Doherty was gold for a while - missed him completely of course -but for me was overpriced at the end of the season. Having missed him I felt no inclination to get him when i rejigged ariubd 25

Yep anything Chelsea is even more conditional than all the other pre preseason picks

I have Digne and Luiz atm in my big back 6. My thinking is to spread the love and not gamble with double ups there apart from Pool. Cs are so unpredictable - think City last time out. But with Spurs Chelsea City Pool and Everton I’d be hoping for close to 50% most weeks. Was not part of the beauty of RAM - missed too of course - that there were 3 chances of cs as well as those attacking returns

Not to deep, gets let loose with idrissa gueye covering

finished last season strong, not to much attacking returns but can only get better in an Everton team that is slowly adapting.

Thought he might be a good 5th

What do we think the Spurs defence? Looks to be value there for sure, but who??

They seem very short of full backs with Tripper out of the door and Rose potentially on the way?

If it wasn't for Rose's transfer talk, and I'm inclined to ignore it anyway, I'd have thought Foyth and KWP would be competing for RB and Danny Rose and Davies rotating at LB?

Either way I'm thinking of going 5 at the back: Coleman, Van D, TAA, Walker (swap to Mendy when fit) and a Spurs defender.
