Is Richarlison or Gylfi Sigurdsson better FPL value at £8.0m?

The release of the Fantasy Premier League price list has seen Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson both priced up as £8.0m midfielders.

Everton sit top of our Season Ticker for the first ten Gameweeks of the season and are the only Premier League side to avoid a ‘big six’ club in their opening half-dozen matches, so interest in the Toffees’ Fantasy assets will be keen.

Both Richarlison and Sigurdsson scored 13 top-flight goals last season and recorded their best-ever FPL points hauls.

Given that the Everton midfield duo can’t be separated by price, we will run a direct statistical comparison in the Members’ article below to weigh up the pros and cons of each asset.

As well as the usual goal threat and creativity comparisons, we’ll be assessing their record against ‘lesser’ sides (given Everton’s favourable run at the start of 2019/20) using our new Flat-Track Bully tool.

How do u think will Southampton line-up now? Will they go for 2 strikers with ings and adams? Does this mean Redmond moves to the wing again? Will be interesting to see who is the best option at Southampton this year. I think they will have a good season this year thanks to hasenhüttl.

i am going to choose salah or mane depending on which one goes home earliest from african cup of nations.

i want pulisic when he's in the chelsea team depdning on value.

Vardy is purely doen to the fact that Rodgers is the manager. He will get chances and score goals and pound for pound i think his £9m will prove to be a bargain. I expect big things from Leicester.

Deulofeu is based on opening fixtures and his assist & goal return. I think he can be the man for Watford who may surprise a few. If Deulofeu had been a midfielder this season, I would have had him in (price dependant of course)

So how many weeks are you guys/gals planning for at the start of the season? 2,4,6 maybe 8? I'm looking at 6-8.

There is anecdotal evidence (I believe Mark S and the winner both made this move last year, plus many have done before) that people who use an early WC to make sure they have a team to challenge, a decent rank and get on those early bandwagons, finish higher.

The old trick of using 1st international break to make money has fallen by the wayside, With this in mind is it even worth looking beyond 4 or 6 weeks?

Meh, I think it varies from season to season and can only really be told in hindsight. So many bandwagons came through last year, unlikely to happen again (I hope at least)

I totally agree on early wildcard. The only potential spanner in the works is Liverpool wcc in December, but a +8/12 may sort that and I can't see me hanging on til then. Pencilled in for post gw3 but depends on whether likes of Chelsea+Utd forwards, man city full backs become clear before the start of season or not. The early wildcard is mainly about getting certainty over game time/positions over form for me (eg Jimenez last year didn't return loads immediately but he was nailed striker for a decent side)

    Good afternoon!
Question to Saints fans: Is there any chance for Armstrong to start in GW1? I mean, I know that pre-season can change a lot but for now he is just a substitute player, right? I like him a lot and would love to make him my 4th mid this year. 😀

I’m a big fan of an 8.5m combined spend on GKs. It’s also a position I don’t want to review until the wildcard is played.

Between GW1-12, when I likely then wildcard, only Everton (31) have easier fixtures according to the FPL difficulty ratings than Burnley (32) making them the most desirable option of the 4.5m starting keepers. Will Heaton start?

Bournemouth (33) are also up there with the easier fixtures, but again, I don’t know who will start given Travers came on the scene at the end of the last season.

Mat Ryan offers the security of starts and Brighton (35) also conceded far fewer last season than the other 2 mentioned teams, so he is most likely to be the one I start with if pre-season does not give us more info on the other 2 teams.

I’m sceptical of promoted sides, unless they were renowned for defensive capabilities, such as Sheffield United. However they have the hardest opening 12 fixtures in the league, so will not be worth considering until the fixture swing between GW13-18 when they have the joint easiest in the league.

    1. SADIO SANÉ
      • 8 Years

Heaton seems solid to me, the harder fixtures in the first 14 weeks are at home and he's scored 150ish twice before - the difference between a lot of these keepers will be penalty saves, which doesn't seem to be predictable. If not Heaton think I'd rather just stump up the cash for Pickford and just keep him all season, I feel like he's the best penalty stopper

      1. Zladan
        • 6 Years
        4 years, 9 months ago

This implies you think there will be more penalties this year.

Heaton would make a great choice as we know Burnley can play to the defensive style effectively.

        1. SADIO SANÉ
          • 8 Years
          4 years, 9 months ago

I do think there will be, but just trying to predict who is more likely to save 3+ penalties, which is the difference between an average score and a good one - of which I think Pickford is best. Heaton is a solid choice and think I will set-and-forget with a 4.0 sub until GW14 at least..

Great suggestion - King Wilson article would be super

I’d suspect Wilson comfortably exceeds him on points per game - but it’s not that long ago that King had “that” famous purple patch from Christmas onwards and finished on. Early 180 points - and pens should be worth 5 or 6 goals if Fraser stays and Wilson stays fit

King stood out for me as value amongst forwards when the pricing was released

Its a lot of money.... but it’s also what city do - they’re a financially doped team

          Stones -sits on bench
          Mahrez -sits on bench
          Jesus -sits on bench
          Sané - sits on bench
          Etc, etc

I think Maguire would compete with Stones & Otamendi and they’d each play between 10-15 league games alongside Laporte

I don't at all. I think he's buying maguire for his ball carrying ability from defense. The way rio used to. I see Maguire being first choice alongside laporte and while he will miss a game or two as its city i still expect him to play 30+ which for 5.5m is good enough for me.

Differentials based on everyone's RMT: Richarlison, Sane, Auba, Laca, Alli, Moura, Deeney, Rashford, Giroud, Anderson. Just saying, not specifically recommending.

Is there more of a risk with TAA than Robertson? I want TAA because I feel his potential for assists is higher but I don't want to pay 7.0 for someone who could get dropped for Gomez.

Cheers. The difference in minutes between the two was equivalent to 8.4 matches so the fact that TAA got 1 more goal and assist than Robertson and only 4 fewer BPS is tempting me to get him.

Hello Community, Eyes on Sigurdsson for me at the moment out of the two. I'll explain why and then I'll give a few 'left field' alternatives.

Based on last years performance both averaged 4.8 points per match. When converted to points per 90 minutes played both averaged 5.2 points per 90 minutes. Over the course of the season Sigurdsson played 34.7 x 90 minutes, Richarlison played 29.6 x 90 minutes. Extrapolated performance data (assumes both play 38 x 90 minutes) means Sigurdsson would have edged potential points by 199.4 over the season compared to 196.6 for Richarlison. Not much in at all. If both players performance to this base line maximum then for your money next season Sigurdsson could offer you 24.9 points per million compared to Richarlison's 24.6.

Here are the left field alternatives I'll be watching for pre season based on the above formulae, if they maintain form as first choice regulars there could be some early price bargains.

Loftus Cheek, average points per match 2018/19 = 3.3, points per 90 minutes 7.3, maximum potential 275.7 points, potential points per million 42.4.
Pedro, average points per match 2018/19 = 3.6, points per 90 minutes 5.7, maximum potential 216.7 points, potential points per million 31.0.
Martial, average points per match 2018/19 = 4.6, points per 90 minutes 6.8, maximum potential 258.7 points, potential points per million 34.5.
Yarmolenko, average points per match 2018/19 = 3.0, points per 90 minutes 5.3, maximum potential 202.5 points, potential points per million 33.8.
Stanislas, average points per match 2018/19 = 2.4, points per 90 minutes 4.9, maximum potential 187.6 points, potential points per million 31.3.
Sane, average points per match 2018/19 = 5.0, points per 90 minutes 7.6, maximum potential 287.3 points, potential points per million 30.2.
There are plenty of others in the same bracket but I don't want to give my strategy away too much!!

I don't at all. I think he's buying maguire for his ball carrying ability from defense. The way rio used to. I see Maguire being first choice alongside laporte and while he will miss a game or two as its city i still expect him to play 30+ which for 5.5m is good enough for me.

Stupid reply fail. In reply to this post your alternatives all have major other issues.
        Rlc - injured
Pedro - competing with pulisic for gametime
        Martial - out of favour
Yarmolenko - could be anything and west ham have 49 first team players
        Stanislas - brooks better imo
Sane - rotation, not first choice

Give me siggy or rich any day

There is a reason these players have high PPM but low PPG. Martial is lazy af, poor attitude, RLC is perennially injured as is Stanislas. Pedro is rotated a lot and I dont see that changing. Sane is a great player but seems out of favor unfortunately.

I like the work you have put in though, the trick is to find out who of those high PPM players are likely to play more minutes this year. Yarmolenko really stands out there.

    Why are Chelsea signing Kovacic?

That now makes 4 CAMs in the squad fighting for one spot: Barkley, RLC, Mount and kovacic

They’re just trying to dickslap the FA surely but it’s an expensive one at €45m

Depends if Lampard plays 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. RLC injured but could return in the 10 position so can Barkley. Mount/Kova to compete with Jorginho for a space next to Kante. Also back in the champs league mean that more squad depth is needed.

I don't think so. I think it's Jorginho's place to lose. Kova showed late in the season what he could do but i think he's there for squad depth. A lot of money for it but that's the EPL for you.

Does this 3-5-2 look solid to you lads?

    Ryan
    TAA / VVD / Coleman
    Salah / KDB / Siggy / Zaha / Maddie
    Vardy / King

    4.0, Elmohamady, 4.0, 4.5.

Pros: TAA and VVD, strong midfield, good strikers
Cons: Ryan, no bench at all aside from Elmo

If City dont sign a holding midfielder - will they still hold the same intimidation factor defensively?

Fernandinho is no spring chicken anymore - and they don’t have a lot of cover in that position - I wonder how many games he is capable of, and with Kompany’s influence no longer around he dressing room/training ground - any cause for concern there?

Hopefully they remain solid as it makes things easier from an FPL perspective

He played perfectly we’ll end of last season but:

Gundogan: has eased in to the role admittedly slowly but by the end of the season he was excellent at it

Zinchenko: Yet to play there but can be further effective back up after harnessing defensive skills awareness and showed his ability to adapt quickly to new roles by moving to left back and succeeding

I think Gundog is the go to man. Gets attacking returns too. If he starts regularly 5,5 could be really cheap,

Exactly! The only issue is it takes a city spot away from 1 def and possibly 2 attackers, but if he starts regular he will be my cheap mf. I think he can return better than Bilva.

Unless I am mistaken I remember Gundogan scoring a hattrick for city once upon a time - he has goals in him!

Takes a fair few set pieces too I think

Plus if KDB is genuinely fit (hopefully) they may well just keep the ball so effectively that they don’t really need a hatchet man doing dirty work in front of the centrebacks

So first draft turned out like this. Very early days obviously - midfield especially will be subject to many changes.

    Ederson
    Digne, Coleman, TAA, Robertson
    Salah, Bilva, Zaha, Sanchez
    Vardy, King

    (Bednarek, Hoijberg, Wickham)

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 9 months ago

That’s pretty nice yeah. Would you not be tempted to go Sanchez to a 5m bench player like Jorginho and upgrade bednarek to a premium defender like laporte?

Yes that is tempting. 5-3-2 could be gold but it is quite inflexible. Just in these very early days, Sanchez jumped out a little for me at such a low price. He seems to be in decent form with Chile. I think Utd won't be able to sell Sanchez but they probably will sell Lukaku so they won't have huge depth in attacking options. Sanchez seems a hard working player (most of the time) and he might knuckle down considering he is entering the twilight of his career...

All up in the air and full of ifs and buts - but yeah Alexis stays for the moment.
