FPL position change and Leicester move boost Perez’s appeal

Ayoze Perez has completed a £30m move to Leicester City, leaving Newcastle United after five years in the north-east.

Perez was one of a handful of Fantasy Premier League assets who saw his position change upon the game’s relaunch this summer.

An FPL forward in his first four seasons in the top flight, Perez was reclassified as a midfielder in June after playing more than half of his games in 2018/19 in more of a supporting role behind Salomon Rondon.

Had his Fantasy position been altered 12 months earlier, the extra points he would have accumulated for goals/clean sheets would have put him in the top ten highest-scoring FPL midfielders of 2018/19.

Available for £6.5m this season, Perez would have been an intriguing prospect even if had stayed on Tyneside – but a move to a Leicester side that has developed an attacking swagger under new boss Brendan Rodgers will provoke even more interest in the Fantasy community.

Members can read on for our study of Perez’s Fantasy credentials.

I’m taking a deeper look into having a very strong defence this season.

Considering 5-4-1 / 4-5-1 for opening game week with the plan of a GW4(ish) WC.

Genuinely depends on pre-season and start of season performance if I'm being honest.
Cheers, it could be the way to go this season. Luckily means I can lose TAA/Robbo for funds if needed elsewhere quickly.

Triple Spurs slight risk, especially with GW2 but will probably go Moura > Anderson after GW1

Aha, it's the season template! (Big backlines)

Lampard has come out and said he knows what Kante's best position is (CDM) therefore I think that he won't be playing there this season. This boosted with RLC being out injured I'll take as a potential positive. Really not that desperate right now to beg for the extra 0.5M unless you can think of an upgrade for 0.5M? Please don't say Walker to Laporte or Lloris to Allison/Ederson, not interested.

0 ITB. Bench being too weak a concern, could downgrade TAA to VVD and upgrade Coleman to Digne or a better bencher. Thoughts???

For me personally I wouldn't double up on Liverpool defenders. It just takes up money that you could spend elsewhere.

I agree I would be concerned about Kelly and Wickham on the bench.

i think you will regret not have a semi decent striker. This defensive focus could seriously be your downfall. Last season was strange in that man city and liverpool didnt conceed goals. It is obviously heavily reliant on that and with factors such as more VAR penalties and yellow / red cards this could cause you. I would at least have one very cheap defender.

you're lone striker must be 100% nailed and not injury prone as well...kinda risky going for a formation with only 1 playing striker

If you look at the impact of VAR in other leagues you noticed that the amount of given pens didn't change. Last year I knew the value was in defense/midfield but I turned into a sheep and played 3-5-2/3-4-3. Now I want to stick to my plan. Last years data showed value is in defense/midfield. Don't expect that to change.

I've read some good pieces on the introduction of VAR in other leagues not leading to more penalties However, in the Prem where there is (to my eye - would like to see stats) more physicality in the box at set pieces, I think VAR will lead to more penalties being awarded. There also seems to be a chance that the new handball rule will lead to more penalties being awarded.

My current draft team, like everyone else's on here is big at the back, has 2 big mids and cheap strikers. It's hard to fit in a good smattering of penalty takers with that structure and I see that as a flaw. Mili, Siggy and Vardy could be gold and I don't like not having all 3. I'm beginning to think of this lighter at the back option:

          Heaton 4.0
          TAA Digne Zinchenko 4.5 4.5
          Salah Sterling Siggy Milli Dendonker
          Vardy King 4.5

The problem with this structure is having to play a 4.5 def or Dendonker each week. At the moment, the optiosn aren't exciting me. But at least there are two definite playing subs.

I've seen a few RMT's with Elmohamady in. Just as a word of warning, Villa signed Gilbert from Caen & loaned him back. I expect he will be starting / pushing for consistent minds this season.

Swap Elmo to Targett as he should be a comftable starter over Taylor.

    Only Villa players apart from Targett who I think will be consistent starting 11 are;

    McGinn, Grealish, El Ghazi, Wesley.

        Hourihane x, McGinn, Grealish,

Elmo isn't nailed. Smith is looking at a number of defenders and we Villa fans are still hoping Mings will join. Of the current Villa defenders on FPL I would say Hause and Targett are the most nailed.....but it will likely change.

Yeah I seriously think Gilbert will be our starting RB but a few on the facebook pages think Elmo should get game time. It will be Smith's decision after preseason. I hope we get Mings, think it will be a disaster if we let him slip away!
Agree RE Targett. Unsure on Hause, think he could be first choice sub for CB as we are still looking at Mings + one more.

I have Targett in my team but agree that El Ghazi is the only other potential at the moment!

Jumping between 3 liverpool defence with TAA + Sterling vs Salah + Laporte. My points guestimate is as follows:

    Salah 280 x 2 + Laporte 170 = 730
    Sterling 240 x 2 + TAA 220 = 700

Much prefer this to your previous one. Double City attack over defence every day for me.

Like Heaton - also see him as an enabler for another mill in defence over a premium keeper - just need him or Pope to be clearly nailed.

Could well be Pope as he’s the one who has signed a contract

But that King is a likely 2 anyway as often as not. The payoff in midfield is worth it imo - and there are other 6.5s to move to.

Not ideal but pretty much all week 1 teams so far have a very weak bench with marginal 2 pointers. Seems a reasonable strategy.

Put another way set ups with s lone premium striker look very dangerous - here the risk is much lower. King like all 6.5s will get 2 points more than any other return

    How’s this looking:
    Allison
    Walker, Laporte, Digne, TAA
    Salah, Maddison, Sigurdsson, Noble
    Aguero, King
    Bench: Woodman, Greenwood, Capoue, Prodl

    Cheers

Bench fills me with fear but the starting 11 is great, it's a lot of money to have riding on city and Liverpool defence, would possibly turn Allison to lloris then upgrade noble to moutihno.

Looks way over budget to me, so if that's right, it's good.

    Tinkering has begun:

    Lloris (button)
Robbo, sokratis, zinchenko, (diop, el mo)
    Salah, bilva, zaha, Perez, (Kante)
    Kane, Jimenez, King

It will change a hundred times once pre season kicks in

I'm an arsenal fan and I know rule one is don't go with your heart but I wanted 1 player and at 5.0 he's a cheap way into a defence that surely can't get worse.

Been playing around with a heavy mid and landed on this:
    4.5m (4m)
    Laporte-VVD-Chilwell-4.5m-4.5m
    Salah-Sterling-KDB-Siggy-5m
    King-6m-4.5m

Was all set on Sterling but feel if I replace him with Kun, the midfield feels more balanced.....? Thoughts on this team please guys?? All feedback welcome! 🙂

    Heaton
    TAA - Robbo - Digne - Zinchenko
    Salah - Siggy - Zaha - Perez
    *Aguero* - King

    Aarons - Dendonker - Nket

(Zinchenko becomes whoever 1st choice LB pep chooses btw!)

did the Sterling > Kun switch myself as well, feel that having only 1 playing striker is kinda risky

Perez is a punt of course, on my watchlist for now

          yes agree.

Probably fine. I'm just a bit wary - Jesus seems to be having a good tournament - if he's back in form will Kun be rotated? I just think Sterling might have the edge in minutes.

Really like that team! Only reservation is not having city defensive cover and the lack of Sterling. Saying that thou this is one of the better teams I have seen with Kane

No need for Jimi over Jota.
Sterling or Aguero needed for 2nd captaincy option.

2.5m over Jota & King feels a bit much, might look at Perez though, those 3 for under 20m?

I think he's a great option, had to remove him from my initial draft in order to be able to afford Sterling though

One of only 3 attackers I actually wanted before pricing (along with Mo & Raz) and King was the only other attacker who caught my eye after the pricing was released

Seems to be Rodgers version of Suarez at Leicester - focal point of everything and his body language etc immediately improved as soon as Puel left

Scary to think how much he’d have scored in a full season under Rodgers

I’m making big compromises elsewhere to fit him in - plus if he gets injured, it’s an easy swap to whichever one of the cheaper strikers is in form (Wilson, Jimmy, Jota, GRU even Rashford etc)

That being said, if Perez somehow emerges as nailed and/or in form - he’d be equally tempting - even a double up would potentially be on the cards

I think Leicester attack will be fixture proof & very few teams will keep CS’s vs. them - and I can’t see many of Leicester’s goals not involving Vardy somewhere along the line whether it’s the goal, the assist, or (hopefully not) the assist of he assist lol

I've got something similar put together. It's a strong piece. Don't think early doors you're bench would let you down... Plus no decisions to make is a bonus. Let it ride!

Looks decent but I would prefer 4 at the back instead of back 5.
My 3-4-3 ‘Perez’ team is this:
      Ryan/Krul
      Robbo/VVD/Coleman/Dunk/Kelly
      Salah/Sterling/Zaha/Perez/Dendoncker
      Wilson/King/Deulofeu
