How does Tielemans affect and compare to Leicester’s other FPL assets?

Leicester City’s permanent capture of Youri Tielemans (£6.5m) adds to the Foxes’ attractive options in Fantasy Premier League next season.

The Belgian midfielder, signed for a reported £40m from Monaco, impressed in a brief loan spell towards the end of 2018/19 and was a successful differential pick for those FPL bosses who backed him.

The central midfielder scored three goals and registered a further five assists in just 13 starts, averaging 4.8 FPL points per game – more than any of Leicester’s other Fantasy assets apart from Jamie Vardy (£9.0m).

You can read more about Tielemans’ history in our Scout Report.

The Foxes’ opening eight fixtures are a mixed bag, with Brendan Rodgers’ side facing five of last season’s top seven in the first two months of the campaign.

There are also matches against Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Newcastle United in that time, however.

For those wishing to back a Leicester asset from the off, there is a bit of a selection headache.

Ayoze Perez‘s (£6.5m) case for inclusion was heard in a Members’ article last week but in Tielemans and James Maddison (£7.0m) we also have two FPL midfielders who provided us with decent value for money in 2018/19.

In Vardy, we also have a premium forward who scored more goals than any other Premier League player in the final ten Gameweeks of last season.

This latest article will scrutinise the numbers behind Tielemans’ appearances for Leicester so far.

If Zinchenko looks likely to start:

    A) Laporte + Brooks
    B) Zinchenko + Fraser

B is definitely better if Zinchenko is a starter.

Yeah this has been my thinking. Even if he does start the season he'll still be a big rotation risk unless Mendy is injured.

I think it's a waste of a city spot. Only defensive players I'd choose from City would be Laporte and Ederson.

It's going to be hilarious when we realise that we've spent £6m on an Everton defender when they lose to nil in their first game.

Starting to see the name Pope thrown about abit more past couple days... if I was sure he’d be a starter he’d be a no brainer for me really at 4.5.

Is there a reason I’m seeing his name pop up more often in teams?

Possibly 5 penalty takers but I think you have to sacrifice too much to afford Salah, Sterling and Kane. Zinchenko might not be a starter, wouldn't want to be playing Dunk every week, and we don't know if Jorginho will be in favour under Lampard.

3 heavy hitters isn’t good value since you can only captain 1. Downgrade Kane to Vardy, it is August remember. Upgrade Zinchenko to LaPorte, and Heaton to Lloris.

Changing Pulisic and Azpi to another Liverpool defender and a Leicester mid/Brooks is more template but if you have faith in Chelsea it's a good team. I prefer 2 4.5s to Monreal and Kelly as well actually.

It’s quite the dilemma. He had an off year and we’re suddenly forgetting what he delivers. He scored 17 last year being injured often, no home stadium and an often depleted squad. Prior to that was 29,29,25. At 11.0 it’s a a steal.

Sure, there is collective value in defense nowadays, but I think he shouldn’t be dismissed with such ease on most of the teams I’ve seen posted.

I want him. I don't want to wait either. First Saturday evening game of the season, at home to a promoted team. Looks like he'll be a differential as well. Yeah, I want to get a good rank, but it's a game and hoping for goals is more fun than relying on clean sheets.

Big at the back is good. I'm one that's against 5 at the back though. You only have 1 playing sub, which I don't like. And to me it's a very inflexible formation. Nothing wrong with any of the players you've picked though. Just keep your eye on Zaha as he may not be ready for GWK1.

It looks very good. If going huge at the back they look the ones to go for. That members article showed a 451 was only a few points per season worse that 352 optimum.
I am 451 right now. I think 5 mids is the important bit.
I might like your team more right now. I think I may have to leave KDB go from the Salah Sterling KDB trio to get a bit more balance.

As someone relatively new to the game (3rd season this year) I’m just wondering if any members have any data on whether new players to the premier league (midfielders/forwards promoted or transferred from other leagues) have broken the 160 point mark? Obviously aware of Salah but it would be interesting to see whether the adjustment period is true or just a wives tale.

Something that might back up the lack of value in the 6.0 or less mid or forward bracket. Best was 3.7 or 3.9 points per game
Take 3.8 or better and 19 defenders got that last year who are available for 6.0 or less!!
A nice one probably will emerge in the mid or forward category bit laws of averages say have a defender instead.

So who is this years Fraser. I had him from the start last year not that it really helped as other decisions were poor.
Looking at Fraser maybe a younger player who has good stats for the minutes played but not quite nailed yet. Any other factors to look for before I go and click on the stats for every sub 6.0 mid and forward !!

FPL raised prices so hard and indiscriminately, all the Fraser’s are starting at 6.0 this year. Even after just188 minutes of no goals, Hudson Odoi is 6.0 from 4.5 last year. Should be 5.5 at maximum.

Grealish, Leicester’s Harvey Barnes, Buendia, Emil Hojberg(sp?) .... some guesses

It would be good for football and Phil Foden to be loaned to Southampton or somewhere that would let him play 25 games or so

I think McNeil might be the one. But only from GW5 onwards if things are looking good. If Burnley had better fixtures to start, he'd be in my team. 3 goals and 4 assists in less than half a season. Double that and you're looking at similar output over a season to Bilva, or Gross in his first season. If he can hit 150 points then 6m is good value. But can't really go there yet with those early fixtures.

Nice one. Nearly made my list. Should be 5.5 rather than 6 that's what is annoying this season.
And the fixtures. Not putting me off Pope from the start though - loads of save points !!

Fraser I was a fan of and had him from the start. n easy choice at his price. I had stats and gametime. I have spent too much time looking for similar to no avail. All my fancies are rotation picks.
This year with so many expensive choices I think the 6.5 to 7.5 pricing is where a gem will arrive.

Could be. I look at the fixtures and it true they are not that many bad ones but how many really good ones. It's just a good long run of average fixtures and they can be an inconsistent team for now I have neither just Coleman.
Have gone for him over Calvert Lewin

At worst they might prove a little underwhelming rather than top 6 in their position, but I don't see them being seriously poor gambles.

Everton was very strong defensively about the last 10 GW. If they keep that up, yes, worth it. Brenden Rodgers had a positive effect.

      Last season for similar minutes:

Laporte 177 pts = 27.2 pts per million spend

Get Laporte and save 0.5 mil

      Zaha 21 attacking returns

10 in 11 games with Batshuyai on the pitch
11 in the other 25-ish games without Bats

Palace could possibly be in trouble this year without Bats

      I’d prefer Laporte anyways

I’m struggling to fit a city asset in. I want two captain options, so was trying for Salah and sterling but that left me with zero bench cover. Vardy a must for me, so no budging there.

The only Chance was kdb and not having Kane. But I don’t know! Here the team so far, good for no city? Will inevitably switch back to the kdb option again I feel.

          Zlach?

The way I see it with tripper is he should be good to start off the season for the home games. Don’t see him as a season keeper.

Jorginho is a wait and see really. If his nailed then I’ve got him in, hoping his on pens. But who knows atm.

Kane's your problem there. I tried a Sterling-less squad with KdB but the loss of Sterling's points is just too massive. With a spine of Salah, Sterling and Vardy along with a premium defence, I've rigged up a decent squad, but a third 10m+ asset would unbalance it. So with 2x10m+ players, you're left with a choice between Sterling and Kane. You've gone with Kane; I went the other way.

      Nice squad

By which I mean it’s very close to one of my set ups. The difference with me is I’m prepared to compromise on a 4th defender to get KdB in over Siggy

Not a done deal of course and I may wait to see how he goes fitness wise etc. But in his last full season he matched Sterling.

Agree Vardy is very attractive from the start.

    Fabianski, 4m
    Van Dijk, Digne, Duffy
    Salah, KDB, Richarlison, Gross
    Kane, King, Deulofeu

    Bench: 4m, 4.5m, 4m, 4.5m

I guess this will do the job!

No Sterling is scary. Highest PPM last season . KDB is not captaincy material and imho he cant surpass Sterling points

        • 8 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

Looking at his team, i doubt his planning to captain kdb, his got two other great options there.

As far as sterling, with me it’s deciding between Salah and sterling... fixtures wins it for me for Salah to start the season

      2. Holmes
        • 10 Years

KDB is just a place holder to be honest, can pick any premium assets when we have better idea of form or even downgrade if cash is required.

Re Sterling. I have given some thought and looking at his first 5 games, I wouldnt cap him in more than 1 game (BHA), not sure 12m can be justified.

I guess, Kane to someone and one of the mids to Sterling in GW4 is likely to happen.

Allowing money movement between positions in the future, Kane makes sense to start. Balanced mid an attack.
