Fantasy Allsvenskan Gameweek 23

After an international break that hit us hard both FPL and FA-wise, we’re now gearing up towards another round of Fantasy Allsvenskan, Gameweek 23 to be precise. It’s another Friday night deadline at 17.00 CET so make sure you have your team set up by then!

Gameweek 22 review

GW22 feels like an eternity ago but here are some highlights from a fantasy perspective:

Djurgården had a tough game against local rivals and title chasers AIK, which they lost 1-0 thanks to a first-half penalty goal by Sebastian Larsson (8.7m). That was the first loss for Djurgården since GW8 against – guess who – AIK! In fact, Djurgården’s only other loss of the season besides the two versus AIK, was against Hammarby in GW6. Thus continues Djurgårdens horrible derby statistics of recent years and it begs the question, can they do better at home to Hammarby in GW27? Aslak Fonn Witry (5.4m) managed to shake off concerns of an injury to get a 4-pointer, while Marcus Danielsson (6.2m) got his second yellow card of the season and wound up with just one point. Elliot Käck (5.8m) served his one game-suspension and is back against Helsingborg this on Monday with a clean slate. Mohamed Buya Turay (9.8m) failed to extend his goal-scoring run to four games in a row and while you’d still expect him to remain first-choice, one cannot ignore the fact that Emir Kujovic (9.4m) could start eating into his pitch-time more and more, as he regains fitness. Maybe they’ll play with two strikers up top, it’s definitely something to monitor.

Hammarby travelled to Norrköping and didn’t have a particularly good game, only mustering 5 shots (2 on target) to Norrköping’s 10 (4 on target). Norrköping won the game two goals to none, making it the first game in which Hammarby failed to score since GW13 away to Häcken. It was also the first game in which Muamer Tankovic (9.6m) blanked since missing out on that particular match against Häcken. Alexander Kačaniklić (8.8m) went off injured once again, this time after just 19 minutes played. Meanwhile, Nikola Djurdjic (10.4m) got himself a red card and misses out on GW23 as a result, while Darijan Bojanic (6.9m) will be back from his suspension assuming he’s fit. For Norrköping there were a lot of positive signs though, as they recorded their fourth successive win and now have a goal difference of 14-0 in their last six games! Sead Haksabanovic (8.8m) popped up with another goal, making it three goals and five assists in his last four games. Still just in 8.2% of the squads, he looks primed for a late-season push into our squads.

Carlos Strandberg was the talk of the town ahead of GW22, on the back of a hattrick against Sirius in GW21. As he was being bought in by plenty of managers, the news broke on Thursday that he was going to be leaving for Saudi Arabia, seemingly confirmed by the club Al-Hazem on Twitter. Malmö, Örebro and the player himself remained silent though, which made it all the more strange when the people in charge of Fantasy Allsvenskan made the call to completely remove him from the game, causing a lot of uproar on Twitter. On Friday, as Örebro released the match squad Carlos Strandberg was named as one of the selected players, prompting the powers that be to swiftly throw him back into the game. As fate would have it, he wound up not even featuring on the bench for Örebro, and has since left.

Finally, here are some gameweek 22 stats, courtesy of GoktugErce;

The three most popular captains in the top 1k were:

Muamer Tankovic; Captained by 21.1%, Effective Ownership of 117.6%, scored 3 points.

Robin Söder; Captained by 20.6%, Effective Ownership of 74.6%, scored 2 points.

Daleho Irandust; Captained by 8.2%, Effective Ownership of 31.3%, scored 8 points.

Top 1k average points for the gameweek was 52.07, compared to the overall average of 44 points.

Gameweek 23 preview

As mentioned in the opening paragraph, it’s a Friday night deadline, 17.00 CET. Don’t get caught out!

On Friday, Sirius host Falkenberg in a game of huge importance in the fight to avoid relegation. Fantasy options are few and far between for these sides but Sirius striker Philip Haglund (7.7m) deserves a mention. It’s proving hard for previous fantasy favourite Jacob Ericsson (4.8m) to justify the continued investment when they keep getting pummelled… But this could be one of those games he shines in from an attacking point of view.

Rodic and Strandberg have now left Örebro, so most (if not all) of Örebro’s attacking points will have to come from Jake Larsson (5.9m), Viktor Prodell (6.5m) and Martin Broberg (7.3m). Johan Bertilsson (6.7m) gets a mention as well if he remains on the pitch, along with assist merchant Nordin Gerzic (6.7m). Fixtures are pretty awful after GW23, but one of them could be a budget gem for the run-in and in GW23, they’re up against Sundsvall at home. Martin Broberg has 2 goals and 6 assists in his last 6 games, while Prodell has a tasty 1 goal in 999 minutes played so far…

Sunday is a big day for the top seven as we’ve got Häcken-AIK, Hammarby-Göteborg, and Malmö-Norrköping. Paulinho (11.8m) is perhaps making a late-season push for the golden boot, though Oscar Linnér (6.0m) might have other things in mind. Could we see supremely talented Nabil Bahoui (9.6m) start getting regular game time, perhaps even up top? He faces a lot of competition to lock down a starting spot though… Muamer Tankovic looks to regain his “never-blank”-status but has a tough task amidst Hammarby injuries, niggles and suspensions. Alexander Kačaniklić looks pretty likely to start on the bench, as he’s not looking to rush back this time and suffer another setback. Can Robin Söder (8.1m) poke a hole in Hammarby’s not especially tight defence? For Malmö, Anders Christiansen (10.0m) is back from his suspension and tends to do well at home this year, while Sead Haksabanovic will try to keep up his impressive recent form for Norrköping.

Monday has Djurgården face off against Helsingborg at home and Elfsborg travel to Eskilstuna. For Djurgården this is a game they are expected to win and keep a clean sheet, but “games are not won on paper” as they say. I’d feel pretty confident in backing Djurgården to do well here though. When will Emir Kujovic start getting more regular playing time, is he fit enough and who makes way in that case? For Elfsborg, budget-friendly striker Jesper Karlsson (6.2m) has three goals and two assists in his last three games and will be looking to add to that against a lacklustre Eskilstuna.

Players to target

Jesper Karlsson is a striker to look at, as his price makes him a potential prospect. Sitting in just 6.6% of the squads, he’s also not owned by many yet. If you get him in though, I’d suggest having some options to rotate with as after Eskilstuna, Elfsborg face Malmö (H), Häcken (a), and AIK (H) before it turns again with Falkenberg (H), Örebro (a), Göteborg (H), and finally Helsingborg (a).

Martin Broberg is posting some interesting stats from a shot and heat-map perspective. At home to Sundsvall, there are points to be had if Örebro are up for it. Hosam Aiesh (9.2m) has kick-started life at Göteborg and has one goal, two assists in his last two games. Göteborg’s fixtures are about to take a pretty serious turn for the worse, yet they still have some attacking potential even in the harder fixtures – a bit of a punt admittedly. Speaking of punts, another interesting one is midfielder Nabil Bahoui (9.6m) who will be getting time (not all of the time…) as a striker for AIK. Can we really resist? Yes, we really can. But should we…?

Captaincy thoughts

Muamer Tankovic will have his work cut out for him as Nikola Djurjic will miss out through suspension, and Kačaniklić seems pretty likely to not start at the very least. He can always work his magic at home to Göteborg, but I feel like there should be better options this week.

Enter Anders Christiansen, bonus point darling and a safe bet at home most of the time. Norrköping won’t be easy, but can they really keep AC out of the points? I don’t think so and I suspect he will be captained by quite a few players high up the ranks. Paulinho is looking increasingly like his old self and against Falkenberg he had three shots on target, two off and three shots blocked. Always privy to a goal or two against the Stockholm-based clubs, Paulinho is both a good captaincy shout and an intriguing option for the run-in (as always, if he stays fit).

Good luck this gameweek and if you want to chat about fantasy football either comment here below, or hit me up @FF_Meltens on Twitter!

Tricky for captain this week - will probably leave it on Tankovic

Very tricky captaincy week! It will go down to the wire for me. Tankovic apparently went off a bit early from the training yesterday with "some stiffness":

Lots of questionmarks around Hammarby but if somehow Kacaniklic gets fit and starts, the attack might still click.

        Thanks Meltens!

Hadn't even thought about AC as a captains choice, but might reconcider now. Have switched between Tankovic and Käck, but Hammarby tend to do worse against the other top sides, and I already got triple Djurgården defence so to captain Käck as well might be a bit too much. AC suddenly looks like a much better option.

Had to change my plans after last GW, using both my free transfers this week to get Karlsson and Käck in for Djurdjic and Lindgren. That leaves me enough to get Haksabanovic in for Jarl next GW. Otherwise a pretty tricky GW, those three games on sunday looks diabolic, I might just close my eyes and hope for the best there 🙂

          Cheers Bob! 🙂

Only questionmark around AC that I forgot to mention is Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday, but surely they won't rotate him against Norrköping? Käck I've also considered for the captaincy, also Witry for a repeat of his GW2 heroics 😉

I can't back Göteborg with the captaincy against Hammarby but wouldn't rule out them netting a few as well, unfortunately 🙂

Yeah I've seen some speculation about rotation for Malmö players, but I'm not concerned about AC. He's theire most important player, and I don't think they can afford to rotate him since they're chasing a league title or at least a european spot for next season. He'll defenitly play against Norrköping since it's a tought game, and against Helsingborg since it's derby. Could potentiallt be rotated against Elfsborg or AFC, but that's just speculation.

Tankovic will probably be heavily backed again, but Göteborg is a good side, Hammarby seem to struggle against other top sides and might miss Kacaniklic and Djurdjic, which would hurt theire attack. I think Käck on set pieces is a better option than Witry, but the choice between AC and Käck is a tough one!

All valid points, will take them into consideration. Would love it if I could get my hands on some news indicating Bahoui gets a start up front, would be a very interesting proposition. Mixed news regarding the Hammarby injuries, Billborn is "hopeful" Kaca can play but who knows really, don't get why they would rush him back again if not fully fit https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/a/Adklpj/tankovic-brot-traningen-det-var-lite-stelhet

Also a good option, yes! 🙂

For my own squad (and I think a few can relate) I’m on treble Djurgården defence so won’t be possible. If I had him he’d definitely be high on the shortlist for me!

Not a bad option, but personally I don't like captaining strikers in Allsvenskan fantasy, much due to the general lack of bonus potential. I wouldn't expect any bonus points from Buya, but expect 2-4 bonus from players like Käck or AC, which makes them more appealing to me.

        Larsson Haksabanovic Kacaniklic Tankovic
        Karlsson Paulinho Rosenberg

        Amos Lauritsen Henriksson Jarl

Looking to prepare for Attack! In coming weeks.

        Any suggestions? £1.8m itb

Not too knowledgeable on Allsvenskan but looks ok to me.
Fair amount of overlap with mine (preparing for PTB):

            Pettersson 4m
            Kack Witry Danielsson Larsson Krogh-Gerson
            Larsson Haksabanovic Traustason Tankovic Jarl
            Paulinho Soder Baptiste

Triple Djurgården defence looks superb for PTB in GW25, as do Gerson. Not sure about Larsson though, with Malmö having so many options in defence and might rotate because of Europa League. I'd rather look at Lauritsen for a Norrköping doubble up, and that would free up cash as well. A Häcken defender like Toivio could also be an option.

Looks very good overall. Could be a bit risky short term though, with Jarl likely out, Henriksson not playing and Kacaniklic a doubt. Just make sure you'll be able to field 11 players. If you don't have any specific plans for the money ITB, perhaps upgrade Henriksson to Da Graca? Would give you another great option for next GW aswell.

Otherwise I can only repeat what I've previously stated. I fully understand that you want to maximize the Attack! chip, but in this game money is usually better spent in defence and midfield. There are so many good midfield options like Irandust, AC, Traustasson, Bahoui, Ring that I wouldn't go for two cheap midfielders. Also, Karlsson in GW25 feels wasted on the Attack! chip, so I'm not sure it's worth building the team around the two most expensive strikers in the game.

Any way, best of luck to you!

Agree with Bob on most accounts, I'm guessing it's Jake Larsson and not Sebastian right? On a WC I think I'd steer clear of Kacaniklic as well, too many doubts surrounding him for me. Can always get him back in later 🙂
I think I'd personally find it hard to ignore Bahoui on a WC, the potential upside is huge but you do have to be prepared for some benchings!

Kacaniklic is a tough one, but mostly do to his fitness. I think the talk about a major fixture swing for Hammarby is exaggerated in the short term. Hammarby are always good at home, especially going forward, and after the tough derby next GW they have Sirius and Örebro which are two excellent fixtures. Asuming he's fit, I'm defenitly keeping Kacanikkic for another 4 gameweeks. The one I'm looking at is Bahoui, who still has a few tricky games and also needs to nail his spot in the team, so that potential transfer wont be until around GW27 for me.

I switched to from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 with my Wildcard two weeks ago, and from next week I'll go with 4-5-1. It's a shame you can't play 5-5-0.... 😉

Decided to go with my first instinct and captained Käck instead of AC. I realized that many others also had 3 defensive Djurgården players, so to captain one wouldn't be as risky as I initially though. A lot of people seems to have a Djurgården defender as captain, so I just hope that they'll keep a clean sheet and that the attacks will come from the left wing this game.

Also noticed that a lot of people in the top 40 have ditched Kacaniklic, which almost makes him a differential now. I just hope he'll be able to play and punish his sellers.

            Best of luck to everyone!

I cannot believe that I have switched for Kharaishvili to Soder 2 weeks ago and since then they are killing me... And why could not Tankovic play a bigger role in this Hammarby slaugther? The Orebro match was a fail as well... Not the best GW this year but a Norrkoping and let's say a 4-1 Djurgarden win with a Buya hattrick could increase my happiness.

Kharaishvili looked really on fire this game. Meanwhile, no Kacaniklic or Djurdjic (+ Johannsson and Khalili off injured early) meant Tankovic lacked the quality players around him to play off like he usually does. Instead, Bojanic and Jeppe Andersen came bombing forward while Tankovic struggled to get into advanced positions.

Should be better when Djurdjic and Kacaniklic is back! AIK next week though...

To be fair, Khariashvili was always the one to go for. His 39 bonuspoints is about twice as many as any other striker in the game, he's now got 7 goals and 8 assists and since his suspension in GW4, he's never scored less than 3p in any gamweek (which he's only done thrice).

If it's any consolation, he's now suspended for that tasy fixture against Sirius, so that opens up the space for Söder.

yeah I know that he has been looking better throughout the whole season but I had to take some risks to take advantage over the managers around me because it is hell of a tight end-game. And unfortunately the Khara/Soder switch was a part of this but it hasn't payed off well.

Perhaps not yet but let's not forget that we're just 2 GWs removed from Söder scoring 7 goals and 2 assists in 4 games. I think he should still be able to keep up with Kharaishvili, though the latter's bonus-game is absolutely off the charts.

                  Nice score!

I got 64p and dropped two places, but I'm through to the next round in the cup. A little frustrating with Offia not even in the squad against Falkenberg, Da Graca coming 3rd off the bench with -1p, and Khariashvili picking up his 3rd YC and is now suspended against Sirius, but that's life. At least I got the Käck captaincy right!

Next deadline on friday, and that GW is followed by another GW in midweek, love it! Plan to get Haksabanovic in and captain, but have no clue what to do after that. The players I'd like to get rid of is Da Graca (4.3) and Offia (4.4) but there aren't much to chose from in that price category...

Very nice job still being in the cup, I got knocked out in the second round when Djurdjic went mental and I didn't have him.
Kadir Hodzic has been sneakingly good all season really despite AFC struggling. Wouldn't want to play him every week, but at 4.4m he's a very nice rotational option in defence.

It's becoming increasingly tough to get the articles out on time with this schedule but I'll do my best 😉 It's really fun to write them but it does take some time to patch it all together. Anyway, shouldn't be an issue this week!

I've been blessed with a rather easy draw for the past rounds, and have a decent chance of going through whis week as well. I should probably go for the cup now, with top 10 moving further and further away.

I'm looking at Hodzic as a potential replacement for Da Graca, but also noticed that Manns (4.2) is getting gametime at Kalmar with excellent fixtures ahead.

Nice to hear that you enjoy writing these articles, we all certainly enjoy reading them and discussing around them. Don't feel any pressure to deliver them if it risks taking the fun out of it, remember it should be fun first and foremost.

Sounds like going for the cup is a great move at this stage, also if you do well there it should still translate to a good OR 🙂

Nice spot with Manns, hadn't really noticed that. I just like Hodzic more as he has a good attacking + bonus game, neither looks very likely to keep that many CS. Had Hodzic from the start of the season but got rid ahead of PTB in GW20 (he was also suspended), now on a WC he was one of the first back in.

Cheers mate, no not feeling the pressure at all just enjoy doing them for the community and for myself, to try to wrap my head around what is happening in the game! 🙂 Always good to have a chat around the strategies and different players, other than some parts of Twitter I haven't found a lot of Fantasy Allsvenskan discussion to get into besides FFS. Thanks for the feedback and all your insightful comments over the season!

Managed to preempt Djurdjic's red card last week and switched him to Islamovic, that smugness didn't last long. Now all my forwards are suspended lol (Kharaishvili, Buya Turay, Islamovic)

Ouch, that's really unfortunate. Good that you still have your wildcard to help sort things out. I'd recomend you to go a bit lighter up front and spend more of the money in midfield and defence. As a back-up keeper, Tim Rönning has appeared as a good pick at only 4.0. Could be paired with Vaiho or Pettersson depending on how much you're willind to spend.

Haha first thing I did was try to fit in Rosenberg, Paulinho and Söder

I'd defenitly avoid Rosenberg, who could easily be rotated for a few easy games now , since they'll enter the Europa League tonight.

Söder and Paulinho arn't bad picks, but I wouldn't wanna play Söder much after this GW. Paulinho is a nice differential though. There are a few cheap and decent options up front, like Fröling and Karlsson, who can combine with a more expensive one. I'd go heavy in midfield since there are so many good options there like Tankovic, Kacaniklic, Haksabanovic, Irandust, Traustasson, AC, Bahoui and Thorarinsson.

You get so much more value for the money in midfield and defence due to the bonus point system. Perhaps an unfair comparation, but Buya is the second highest scoring striker, with returns in 8 of his last 11 games, but still has about the same points as defensive midfielders like Ulvestad and Bojanic...
