I am happier than Jamie Carragher commentating over a Man City loss, to announce the full information for this season’s Community Tournament, the Pundits Playoff. We are now taking no more applications for managers, but you can still register yourself as a player by clicking here.
Teams
There are 12 teams and each will be filled with 15 players each. The team managers are currently looking to recruit 10 pre-draft players who will be guaranteed to take part. If you want to get your foot in the door, comment below this article will some glowing details of your past achievements. To see a full list of players and the current state of the teams, please click here. The teams will all fill their final 5 places on deadline day, when there will be a draft, more on that nearer the time.
Team Managers
The volunteer team managers have been busy recruiting on their pre-draft signing sprees, Pirlo’s Pen (8 players so far at the time of writing this article), Jarvish (8 players), KIRAFPL (1 player), Narcos (8 players), Speedyboyz (8 players), The Fantastic Mr Fox (1 player), The_Socca_Philosopha (2 players), Lawro (6 players), Tets Mcgee (8 players), Toblerone52 (8 players), gwitbrock (1 player) and Geevious (4 players). They are all allowed to make a maximum of 10 pre-draft signings, including themselves.
Financial Fair Play
Each team manager has been allocated a budget of £1,250m to buy their players with (that’s you guys). Following GW7, every single player will be given a value, based on their OR, including the pre-draft signings who (pay attention team managers) will each incur a transfer fee of £20m. The highest value players will be £100m, the lowest £1m. No team will be allowed to spend over their budget.
Format
Each of the 12 teams will play each other twice over 22 match weeks, split into 4 periods – Period 1 (GW9-12), Period 2 (GW13-20), Period 3 (GW22-26) and Period 4 (GW27-32). Between each of these periods there will be transfer window where players can leave and join teams to keep things fresh. Following the four seasons will be finals for those highest placed in the Pundits Playoff league.
Scoring
Every matchweek each team must nominate two substitute players whose scores will be benched. They will then pit the combined FPL scores of their starting 13 players against those of their opposition, and the team with the highest score wins 9 points, a draw will get both teams 3 points, the loser gets none. This season there will be no nominated captain whose score is doubled.
To make things more interesting there will be bonus points! As well as two subs, the team must also nominate 3 players to play in the Bonus H2H matches. H2H match A will be worth 3 bonus points, H2H match B worth 2 points and the third H2H match C will be worth one point. Drawn H2H matches will split the bonus points between the two teams. So the maximum points a team could garner each week will be 15.
Team Bonding
Now that the teams are starting to form it’s time for you to get your heads together and do the following:
- Choose your favourite pundit and come up with a team name inspired by said football expert
- Come up with a team motto, again inspired by your pundit choice
- Lastly, if you are so inclined, create a team avatar, a visual representation of your team name and motto
We will find some willing volunteers to form a judging panel for which team’s avatar is the best.
Meeting your team mates
Whenever you are signed you will be sent an email, with your manager cc’d. From this first contact your team manager will come up with a way for you all to communicate, whether it be via whatsapp, private forum or just email. If anyone is struggling to get hold of their team manager, just email the organisers at punditsplayoff@gmail.com

Hey Boris 🙂
If you want any pictures included, I'd recommend just emailing them to me and I'll get them put in for you. Getting a format that looks aesthetically acceptable might be tricky though, so I might have to have a chat to you about that whenever it comes up.
