How the top 10k FPL managers set up for Gameweek 6

The top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Gameweek 6 have overwhelmingly given their backing to Sergio Aguero (£12.1m).

After a midweek rest from Champions League duties, the Manchester City forward has been captained by 42.7% of those currently occupying the top 10k slots in the overall rankings.

The Argentinian faces a Watford side that has averaged two goals conceded per game in 2019/20 and has seven goals in the first five matches of the campaign himself.

It was Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) who won the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll for Gameweek 6, earning the support of 26.5%.

However, it must be said that as the week wore on, his lead at the top of the vote shrunk at a rapid pace.

Before Sterling’s 90-minute outing in Ukraine, combined with Aguero’s rest, the Englishman enjoyed a 30% share of the poll.

Now that the Gameweek 6 deadline has passed, we can see that Sterling is still the second-most popular captain among the top 10k this weekend.

17.5% of these managers decided to hand him the armband for Watford’s visit to the Etihad Stadium.

Even though he was left way behind in Fantasy Football Scout’s captain poll, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is not far off Sterling’s support among the top 10k.

14.7% of these managers opted to captain the Egyptian with a trip to Chelsea his Gameweek 6 fixture.

Naturally, the top 10k’s captaincy decisions were in contrast to the data recorded worldwide.

Overall, Sterling was the most popular skipper, with 22.6% handing him the armband.

Aguero was on 18.6% and Salah 14.4%.

Five weeks into the campaign, we can start to get a better idea of what the template of players is among the best managers in FPL.

The most-owned assets among the top 10k indicate a number of interesting trends.

For example, it appears that managers are starting to siphon out money from their backlines in the wake of premium defensive options struggling to offer consistent clean sheets.

Therefore, David Button (£4.0m) is the most fashionable goalkeeper, sitting in 39.1% of teams despite being second-choice to Mat Ryan (£4.6m) at Brighton.

Nick Pope (£4.6m) is the most popular playing goalkeeper, owned by 22.9% of the top 10k managers.

Furthermore, the two most-fashionable defenders are the injured Martin Kelly (£4.1m) and Sheffield United man John Lundstram (£4.3m).

The two of them are owned by 49.3% and 46.2% of the top 10k respectively.

There are still a smattering of premium options in this position with Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is the most popular of these (36.7%).

Meanwhile, 34.9% have held on to Lucas Digne (£6.2m) for a home match against Sheffield United and 32.7% have kept the faith in Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1m).

Meanwhile, Sterling has slipped down the pecking order somewhat, with only 48% of managers inside the top 10k in possession of him now.

Ahead of him in the template is Salah, in 64.6% of top 10k squads and Kevin de Bruyne (£9.8m), currently owned by 51.3% at this level.

Not surprisingly, 44.9% own Todd Cantwell (£4.9m) while 37.4% have elected to hold Mason Mount (£6.4m) through his injury doubt.

Teemu Pukki (£7.1m) is by far the most popular asset among the top 10k, sitting in 76.8% of teams, while Aguero’s 52.5% ownership at this level is higher than Sterling’s.

Not surprisingly, Tammy Abraham (£7.4m) is also a big player in the top 10k picture, sat in almost exactly half of all squads in the upper echelon.

Finally, we can see that chips were not used in great number among the top 10k for Gameweek 6.

After a flurry of Wildcards and Triple Captains last time out, no chip saw more than 3% usage in the top 10k.

41.4% of managers at this level have now used their Wildcards, while 32.6% have already deployed the Triple Captain.

14.3% have used the Free Hit while 10.8% have elected to use a Bench Boost for a single Gameweek.

If Sterling continues his poor form today then it's a Sterling to Son.

Whenever son switches on is unstoppable.
With lovely fixtures in the horizon and pep possibly prioritising Europe then son is the man to replace sterling.

With the money upgrade my third striker and give the armand to Mo for the next 2 weeks.

Funny isn’t it that sterling hits the post and misses the goal by a few inches and that’s poor form!

            Sort of agreed but

It’s a question of value and whether 12.2 can be spent better. Son plus an upgrade could work.

Having had him as a massive differential at 10% for first half of last season I’m vaguely amused at his necessary status now. Worth noting the difference in cost now and then. He really does need to be well ahead to justify place with so many mid value forwards blasting it.

        For £12.2 yes.
        39 points overall.
20 points in the first game.
19 points in the last 4 games.

Aguero Salah Mane Aubameyang all in the same price bracket delivered more points than him in the last 3-4 games

            This is my only concern.
But doing that move I can have son and Wilson instead of Sterling and Barnes.

If things go wrong I still have my wc to being raz back.

Scary to go with only kdb from city but it's a game and it must be fun, I'll take the risk!

If son goes on a run then he’ll likely match sterling

Wilson is an upgrade although I think he was lucky last night

              I’d consider Tammy or vardy

Great article but still don't know why percentages are needed to 2dp accuracy. Makes it harder to read.

    Also some stats need context.

"it appears that managers are starting to siphon out money from their backlines". To verify that statement it would be good to compare the now to the past.

"After a flurry of Wildcards and Triple Captains last time out, no chip saw more than 3% usage in the top 10k." What was the chip use last week then?

Repost.. Any thoughts on this WC draft, gents?

    Pope/ Button

    TAA/ Soy/ Alder/ Rico/ Lundstram

    Mane/ Son/ KdB/ Cantwell/ 4.5

    Aguero/ Pukki/ Abraham

Plan on getting back Salah/ Sterling over the medium term

Nice. I did my WC for this GW with a similar plan to get Sterling and Salah back in the long run along with Haller. Aubamenyang was the one I was after, perfect combo of fixtures and form. Aguero is a great pick too though, I think he will still see loads of game-time in the league with Jesus coming on from bench and starting in cups. Bit nervous not having the two big S though in the meantime, especially as a City season ticket holder. Just hope Mane and Son can keep pace.

      Here's mine:

      Pope
      TAA / Ota / Soy
      Mane / KDB / Son / Mount
      Auba / Pukki / Tammy

      Button / Cantwell / Lund / Rico

      What do ya reckon?

    Morning,

Been looking as Leicester fixtures and it's hard to ignore their schedule after the Liverpool game. I have a feeling that Vardy could become flavour of the week by then!

Anyway only way for me to get him in would be.

VVD Sterling Greenwood > Soyu Son Vardy

I have Salah but feel with his set piece responsibilities he has the edge long term.

Is the switch madness or could be worth it? BTW I have KDB so that would be my only City attacker in the team.

I am thinking a similar approach. I can do Sterling and Barnes to son and Vardy.

But I want to see how they perform this weekend.
If they won't deliver then I will probably do it.

Agreed. As mentioned the fixtures are good and arguably Vardy is the man and will take everything. Hence marking players and keeping an eye on them to see how they perform to get them in at the right time.

As for Son, he always seems to be spurs man when him and Kane plays. Over the last 2 season's when I have seen Kane and Son play, Kane naturally drops and plays deeper so I don't see the attraction. Where as Son has gets all the end product

    Money isn't an issue.

Who would you bring in first.

    Abraham or Wilson?

Abraham. GW7 / GW8 could be the start of the template shift.

From GW7 I would be looking at:

      CHE: Tomori, Mount, Abraham
      LIV: TAA
      MCI: Walker, KDB, Sterling
      NOR: Cantwell, Pukki

      GW8 I would add:

      ARS: Bellerin, Aubameyang
      EVE: Digne

Tomori is a bargain at 4.5m though.

Bellerin should get attacking returns for £5.5m.

Don’t see it. Leicester look way more solid at the back right now. I’m even looking at Hammers as being more solid potentially.

      Hard call.

Considering neither and Auba Vardy Pukki as longish term hold with very little at the back.

If though Chelsea attack holds up then I’ll skip Auba and go Abraham with TAA Digne/Mendy

Vardy is coming in almost come what may. Convinced of his long term value being equivalent to KdB in midfield

Leicester aren't as good as those teams though and Norwich are the enabling team. Other than Soyuncu who else is value at Leicester?

Tielemans and Maddison are too expensive when you can get Cantwell, Mount, Abraham and Pukki. Vardy is a premium and isn't the best premium.

    Digne TAA Zinc
    Salah Sterling Kdb Mount Cantwell

Bench: Pope Rico Lundstram Greenwood (0.9itb 1ft)

Really unsure about when to wc - lots of opportunities arising (Vardy, Son, Tammy etc) so will pick one of the next 3 weeks.

Took a minus 4 and couldn’t bring myself to do the extra hit. Need another no show to get Rico on

          Not bad.
I saved the FT, mainly due to Mount uncertainty. Didn't fancy any of the other options I could have afforded.

Brought Wilson in on my wildcard last week, was chuntering about how I hate FPL after 90 minutes last night. The most ridiculous goal later and I like FPL again. So fickle.

Wilson wasn’t very food last night, his movement, positions, didn’t look right. He was lucky to score but HeyHo That’s FPL. not sure I would consider bringing him in tbh

Am I the only one thinking Mane will get more points than Sterling this season?

    Many have Salah Sterling KDB

    I have Salah Mane KDB

The one thing I like about the Pool double up is no worry about rotation.

CHE defence going to be bombarded.

Probably a good move. Sterling can be explosive though and City are (usually) so good.

Next 5-6 fixtures of city are better than Liverpools though - I wud double up city for this period

I'm thinking about doing TAA + Greenwood to Rico + Abraham with 2ft.

    Is that crazy?

getting rid of TAA seems silly yes

I would find another way to get Abraham than losing TAA

Would still have Matip, would obviously rather get rid of him, but that doesn't fund a replacement..
