Our second of three Members’ articles this week revisits last weekend’s fixtures and plunders the Gameweek filtered Opta stats currently available on our test server. This new set of tools, which we hope to be opening up for a Beta test next week, allows the analysis of statistics not only over a specific Gameweek but also a range of Gameweeks.

We took a look at some of last weekend’s top performers to offer you further analysis and to highlight some of the information that Members will be able to discover and examine for themselves very soon…

          So his 143 points last year were just an illusion, then?

          Clearly, he earns points for people who have him in their team and accept that some weeks he'll only get them 2 points and other weeks they'll get lucky and he'll give them a double digit haul.

          I think he could be a good gamble that pays off for anyone gutsy enough to put him in their team over the next 4-6 weeks.

      If Qatar can host the football world cup, there is absolutely no reason new Zealand or Barbados,Wales,Mauritius, or even Iceland can't host the greatest sports event in the world........       Don't think anyone was saying we were entitled DB- that's PRECISELY what the bid were trying to avoid....

      The bid was all about trying to give back to the world using existing charity connections which England and Britain have built up over a long period of time, as well as the power of the PL- watch our bid video if nothing else.....

      Yes, it's great that a nation who hasn't hosted it before is getting it (though why not holland/australia) but if it is impossible for a previous host nation to be successful in their bid then FIFA should just come out and make that an explicit criteria, instead of making countries waste time and money on their bids.....

        As ive said all week. I would have liked it to be Holland too for obvious reasons. Russian and Australian I would have like also cos Id like new countries to hold.
        England has the olympics coming up. Had a tourno 14 years ago and will host Rugby and Cricet world cups soon enough again.

        Its not that bum a deal.

        Btw lots of people have mentioned the "we deserve cos we invented the game" line.
        Then instead of taking the russia win with dignity this site turned into a hate club for 2 hours.

          Whoever mentions the "we deserve 'cos we invented" line deserves a kicking.

          I also disagree with the fact that a country should be penalised for being successful in other bids, surely that is just playing up to the type of politics that has brought FIFA into disrepute? Besides, I would have traded 2012 in a second to have 2018- although I do admire the way the IOC is run. The more votes the better imo.....

              Actually, just a minor point, but I'm English, DBR, but the point is still the same.

              Some of the whining on here just sounds of sour grapes. If FIFA had awarded the 2018 World Cup to England I doubt the people on here would be expressing their "righteous indignation" about murdered journalists, police states and Corporate corruption.

      as for Qatar, if legacy was the reason for russia, how is their any legacy gonna be left in qatar in empty stadia and useless infrastructure. The carbon footprint ofthe place will be through the roof, the accssibility for the rest of the world is a joke, the proximity to serious danger zones laughable, the logistics for terrorsists mindblowingly and infinitely simpler than having it anywhere outside the gulf.         I kind of think none of the 2022 bids made sense.

        USA had it in 94. It was shit. Case in point

        Japan and South Korea hosted it very recently.

        Australia is feckin miles away from everywhere.

        Qatar is inherently ridiculous - no football is played there.

        The real question is why 5 terrible bids were allowed to compete against one another with no viable option - maybe Australia.

          In US the sport has grown massively sicne 94, so while i sort of agree with you i think it's fair to say it would have a different impact now.

          Australia, i don't think you can hold their location against them really - i think they could probably host a pretty good WC.

      Think I will - I'll only bring him straight back in...

      plus the other four of my midfield are Nani, Pedersen, Dempsey and Brunt - combined with Tevez, Elmander and Carroll upfront (all 3 undroppable IMO) so that should keep me going for the next week or two at least...

          Most, if not all, English people i know thought it was an absolute joke. Most were outspoken about fifa being twats and Ireland being hard done by - the general feeling was that it was a disgrace.

      The thing about VDV - I can't justify keeping him in - but I can't justify taking him out for a hit when there's no one I want instead, so I'm keeping him until I find someone I think is going to outscore Simpson/Foley by at least 4 points over the next 3/4 gameweeks. SHouldn't be hard, right? But I'm just not convinced by a lot of the options.

      And, I think I posted this above, Centre backs should be fine to play 2 or 3 games a week.

            And I agree with you on the VdV situation, I'm at MGP at the moment but I'm not really sure about him.
            If it looks like no games will be postponed come saturday morning I'll probably just bench VdV, get Kyrgiakos and play 4 defenders.
